With the diamond mine flooded and buddy fished out of the line of fire, completing the pipeline mission, I swam across the dig to the Jeep awaiting a quick exit via the back road that goes up to the Fuel CP at the top of the hill.

I wanted to w@&k my way up the west side of the map picking up a couple stray diamonds, clearing a few overlooked safe houses and causing some judicious mayhem along the way.

But first I was going to build up as much speed as I could muster, shoot up the hill, quick dogleg to the left blowing through the CP and then plunging down the hill the CP over looks. At the bottom I would splash into the newly added water feature thereby cutting off any pursuit, wade on across and then hike up to grab the AT at the safe house across the valley.

My arrival at the CP managed to coincide with both of the ATP's who's routes over lap at that point and who also must have heard me coming as they were on me in a blink. The AT drivers giving chase fought for position with each other and their gunners were peppering me pretty good as we all raced down the hill to the water.

I dodged a boulder keeping grass under my wheels trying to stay upright so that I could drift as far as possible into the water to add a bit of safety buffer while I scrambled on across where I could take time to heal up if needed and clean up any opposition.

There was no time to look back as I had my hands full picking my course so I'm not sure what exactly happened next.

I hit the water and plowed a little over half way through the stream bed but was scrambling out of the Jeep as it stopped. Miraculously I made the opposite shore without getting hit again as I was blinking red at the bottom of my health meter I quickly hit first aid and then heal as I reached the shore line, then refreshed and glowing I spun around to face my attackers.

They were all dead.

As near as I could tell one had nosed over the boulder I'd dodged, planting its front bumper on the drop side and flipped straight ahead tail over nose crushing both of them. The other had apparently dodged after me in the track I'd left but then had cut hard left to avoid the water, that for me had been a desirable haven, then had rolled over hard right and landed in the water upside down drowning those two. Both accidents involved a drop of less than three feet but somehow proved fatal for everyone involved on both ATs.

A merc further up the hill popped his head up above the ridge line and started shrieking "It's him! It's him!" so I autographed his forehead for him with my AS50 and then dashed up the hill to grab the awaiting AT to get back into the game.

It actually reminded me of the movie Collateral.  There's a hitman in that movie whose calling card is two shots to the left side of the chest and one to the forehead.  He's so fast with it he can deliver all three before his victim even hits the ground.  How's that for an autograph!  If you used a 50 i'm not sure there would be much left  ;D

Art Blade

well, most people would tend to use a pen, while some are inclined to use a paint roller. Or a masher, perhaps.  ;D

Actually mmosu, over several months at the range I worked on polishing just that combination learning to overcome my Colt 1911's recoil and it's really not a shot I'd care to attempt with a Ruger .454 Casull Alaskan.

Unfortunately I got it totally backwards with two shots up, then one down.  :D

The dynamics of the wrist twitch at a range of 25 to 30 feet just works a lot better adjusting from a chest to head shot than any amount of brute force applied to make it w@&k the other way around. Which I understand perfectly at an intellectual level but...

Because of the nature of muscle memory I'm having a dickens of a time unlearning and relearning it correctly after the range master (a self appointed mentor) where I go to practice pointed out my error.

I've heard it said it takes five minutes to develop a bad habit and five years to break it.

@mandru, that's interesting about the Colt 1211 as my son-in-law has that same pistol. He's had me over at the range he goes to and I was quite surprised by the  power after only having a shotgun recoil before when hunting. It was my first time with a opistol and it was a very unique and fun experience.

Excellent adventure mandru; it clearly demonstrates that you never do exactly the same thing twice.  :-X

mmosu

@ Mandru:  I believe in the movie he has a 9mm Sig.  And he goes two to the chest first, allowing the recoil to "reposition" him for one last one between the eyes.  That's how the police catch on to him being one guy actually - a bunch of bodies piling up in the morgue with the exact same shot groupings.  Late in the movie his mag runs dry after the first two shots on one of his victims, and he can't bring himself to make his escape until he reloads and delivers the last round! Talk about anal!  ;)  It's a great flick, you should check it out!

Had an odd one a little while ago. I drew a convoy mission in Bowa, the one that goes around the TaeMoCo Mine. I planted no less than 8 IEDs in a line at the road junction just west of the mine area (I'm playing on Easy and I wanted to see a BIG bang). I waited until all the convoy vehicles were well in among the bombs, then let 'em rip. But only one IED went off, the last one I dropped, taking out just the lead AT, and all the other IEDs just disappeared! Instead of going back to the weapon shop for more, I decided, to heck with it, I'll just bring up my swiped grenade AT and ambush them on their next go-around. Which I did, big truck and second AT turned into smoking wreckage. When I went back to the weapon shop and jumped on the computer however, nothing had changed, no new weapons were unlocked. So I approached the guy in the shop - and drew the exact same mission again! This time I took the convoy out with M-79 only. Mission successful this time, new weapons unlocked (scratches head). ::)

Only thing I can think of, the program didn't like me using so many IEDs at once.

Has anyone else had this happen?

mmosu

I have had nearly this exact same scenario happen to me before, except mine happen with the crossbow in the northeast sector of Bowa.  I was parked on top of a tall rock waiting for the convoy to drive by, and apparently I didn't do a good job of accounting for the flight time of the arrow, because I only damaged the supply truck.  It limped off, and as soon as it was out of sight it disappeared from the map and I got a "mission complete" across the screen.  But, just as what happened to you, when I got back to the weapon shop nothing was different.  It was definately weird.  I have taken out multiple convoys using the "set as many IED's as the game will allow" tactic, and have never reproduced this glitch.  Seems to me that something else besides weapon of choice is triggering it.

PZ

Hasn't exactly happened to me but on my last convoy mission the message popup claiming that my next convoy would release the AR-16 appeared.  The funny thing is that message appeared while I already had AR-16 in hand (and on the rack in the armory).  Maybe you completing your mission somehow gave my character the credit for accomplishing it.  ;D

Infectious mission completion? I guess anythings possible.  :P

The most common Convoy mission glitch I've encountered has been where I laid out my IEDs and when the convoy rolls past there's the two escort ATs but no big truck.

Once I've blown up the two escorts, after the flash and smoke clears, there's the "clunk-kr'chunk" of a vehicle spawning and the big truck pops up completely undamaged just beyond the smoldering rubble of the two ATs and drives merrily off for another lap.

Every time this has happened I'm caught so flatfooted and jaw dropped that by the time I get my self sorted out and realize what's happened it's even too late to respond with a "Hail Mary" grenade lob and a prayer for luck!.

(Must remember, shooting at a retreating truck and damaging it means an even longer wait for it to come around again.)  :D

I've usually spent all of my IEDs which means I don't have the M-79 with me and while I'm pretty good at sniping a driver out of an approaching vehicle there's just some things I don't want to leave to luck.  So I spend my time while he's coming around again finding a tight spot in the road to wedge in my AT to make a trap and then shooting up the grill of the approaching truck as soon as he hoves into view to cripple it and then spray the driver when he hops out to deal with me.

There have been a couple times I've lost my AT because a black smoke spewing big truck's driver has bailed and dashed into the bushes and without thinking I've sprinted after him and the truck blows up before I can get back to move away from it.

Even if I've completed a mission, it only feels like half of an accomplishment, if I have to hike away on foot to round up another set of wheels because of an oversight on my part.  :-[

those posts were all funny, starting with fragger's last one.

Mandru, you made me laugh out loud with that note to self "must remember.."  ;D I know that too well, see the topic when I discovered I could ride on the big truck's bed  :)

I have had only one glitch with a convoy, that happened when I fought down mercs in the north of Bowa, at the Outpost. There I initially had to do that convoy mission, the convoy passing the Outpost. Well, I was killing Outposters when for reasons unknown a mission accomplished popped up, the big truck nowhere to be seen, and I didn't touch any of the convoy's vehicles myself. There was a wildfire going on that I had started, and the ATs blew up in it, but the big truck?? The best thing was, when I was finished with killing mercs, the convoy mission miraculously accomplished, I decided to cruise around through the desert towards the next arms dealer. On my way there, I was followed (can't call that "chased") by the big truck! I killed the driver and drove the big truck to the arms dealer, indeed I got the same mission again, drove there with my big truck and this time did it properly. Ending up with two trucks :)

maybe you remember this post where I used that pic:

Ah, of course!  :-X

Nasreen's there, so it has to be 2nd half of game and yet there's photo proof of the presence of 2 big trucks! Considering that there are no big trucks outside of the Nitrous Run and Arms Dealer Convoy missions in that part of the game I should have spotted that.

I totally missed that the first time you showed it.

Actually, there's a big truck at the Crash Site, and I think there's another one somewhere else, just can't think where. :)

Note: I'm NOT implying that Art cheated with the screenpic or anything, I know he would never do that. It's a cool picture too :-X

You know what fragger, you're right.

Crash site, Yes! But only when you go to obtain the fuse during that part of the Get Yabek mission, I mean, it's not there all the time is it? I've honestly never looked at other times for it, though I have driven through a few times after stealing the GLAT that patrols through there and not seen it but that's not saying much seeing as how my powers of observation seem to be fading these days.

And also there's a big truck with your BB on the bridge with the big hairy bomb in the back that has Yabek's name on it but you can't exactly drive that one away after the mission.

Wracking my brain now for 15 minutes while going over Dweller_Benthos' maps and I'm getting no hits. Am I missing any other big trucks in the second half?

cheers, fragger :)

and I'll be damned, some guy called mandru caused a warning to pop up before I could post this... you know that warning, I guess :)

QuoteWarning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Anyway, I was about to post the following, which kind of is the same as mandru said :)

Indeed, no worries, I always tell you guys when I cheat. Those trucks really are from a somehow unusual arms dealer's convoy mission.

A note on the crash site truck: It's only there if you've advanced to a certain main quest and I think even then only if you've taken on the side mission where you want to blow up the rail-crossing. I'm not sure if the crash site would spawn if you don't take on that best buddy's side mission.

by the way, I don't think there is a second truck.
