I loved this when I was a kid learning guitar from my dad.

A Boy Named Sue: Johnny Cash

My dad idolised this guy, immaculate singing and guitar playing

El Paso-Marty Robbins

Convoy Theme Song

Couldnt find a video for the original by Del McCrory, this is the nearest I could get to his original melody and atmostphere.

Christy Moore - Blackjack County Chains

This guy has just too much stuff, but this ones a good start

Help me make it trought the night - Kris Kristofferson

Again, alot to choose from

DON WILLIAMS-AMANDA.wmv

The queen of c/w music

Dolly Parton - Jolene (High Quality) sound

A haunting intro to this very sad song

Bobbie Gentry - Ode To Billie Joe (Original Stereo)

Awesome violin solo in this, the story is very like the movie crossroads

Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down to Georgia Lyrics.flv

Another song from my childhood

DON GIBSON: Sea Of Heartbreak

Awesome song from a vietnam vet to his wife

kenny rogers - Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to - Anthology

I always think of my dad when I hear this one, Jim Reeves had such a smooth and evocative voice

JIM REEVES - ADIOS AMIGO with LYRICS

Patsy Cline what a voice

Patsy Cline - Crazy

The original and probably the best

Roger Miller King Of the Road

Waylon Jennings

Waylon & Johnny: There ain't no good Chain Gang

The guitar army, The Outlaws

The Outlaws....Hurry Sundown...1977

Of course Lynyrd Skynyrd have to be mentioned, although more of a southern boogie band, they have written some awesome c/w songs

Man, now that was a treat, thanks Fiach   :bow    sadly we don't hear much C/W music if any in South Africa anymore. Most of our country singers are retired by now. Here are a few of our best

'Heart' - Gene Rockwell
[smg id=4338 type=av]
Jody Wayne – Patches
[smg id=4337 type=av]
Barbara Ray - Down the Mississippi
[smg id=4339 type=av]
Joanna Field - Don't fly too high.wmv
[smg id=4340 type=av]
Jody Wayne_ THE WEDDING
[smg id=4341 type=av]

Never would have associated SA witn C/W music, I really liked the links, although they are recent, they give off a kinda 50's vibe. The Wedding production with Ave Maria etc. reminded me somewhat of the Leader of the Pack by the Shangrilas for some reason, they dont sound the same, but they are very ...I dunno...."theatrical"?.... in their production.

Good stuff mate, cheers  :-X

FIACH!!!!!!!! :bow :bow

I had the idea of posting a Country topic already, glad you did it first. I couldn't come up with more than just a few names. Great links!!!!!

I like the "Blackjack County Song". But that accent, ain't it Irish? Great song!
Don Williams reminded me of this song:
All my exes live in Texas - Whitey Shafer

Nexor, Great posts as well!!! I like Jody Wayne; Damn so sweat ^-^

I have a few adds to the list, most I know of the soundtracks of Tarantino's films. Except this one, don't need to explain how I came to know Kenny Rogers ;):

WYCLEF JEAN, Kenny Rogers , The Gambler- Pharoahe Monch Dub Plate 12" vinyl

I think it's a very creative way of combining both styles :-X

Here's some more I know because of said soundtracks:

Fool For Love sung by Sandy Rogers

George Baker- Little Green Bag

Green Hornet Theme by Al Hirt

Not sure, but I guess this one fits in somehow:
Santa Esmeralda - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - YourDancefloorTV

This next one might not, but I HAVE TO post it:
Kill Bill vol. 2 Soundtrack - Malagueña Salerosa (Chingon)

Que bonitos ojos tienes
debajo de esas dos cejas,
debajo de esas dos cejas,
que bonitos ojos tienes!
Ellos me quieren mirar,
pero si tu no los dejas,
pero si tu no los dejas
ni siquiera parpadear.
Malaguena salerosa,
besar tus labios quisiera,
besar tus labios quisiera,
malaguena salerosa.
Y decirte nina hermosa
eres linda y hechicera,
eres linda y hechicera,
como el candor de una rosa.
Si por pobre me desprecias
yo te concedo razon,
yo te concedo razon,
si por pobre me desprecias.
Yo no te ofrezco riquezas
te ofrezco mi corazon,
te ofrezco mi corazon
a cambio de mi pobreza.
Malaguena salerosa,
besar tus labios quisiera,
besar tus labios quisiera,
malaguena salerosa.
Y decirte nina hermosa
eres linda y hechicera,
eres linda y hechicera,
como el candor de una rosa.

Death Proof - The Last Race - Jack Nitzsche

Oops.
Death Proof bar scene (Eli Roth & Michael Bacall)

plus entertaining video :-D
Down In Mexico - The Coasters

Here's a good Dutch Country singer. Her desire is to break through in the States. I bet with the right contacts she fits in perfectly:
Ilse DeLange - I'm Not So Tough

Ilse DeLange - So Incredible.

Ilse de Lange - I Still Cry

Our Dutch Trucker song:
Henk Wijngaard : Met De Vlam In de Pijp (Dutch Song)

One more song I found through K Rose Radio:
Juice Newton - Queen Of Hearts

"Responsibility is not a matter of giving or taking, responsibility is something you share" -Binnatics

I wanted to post the song "Joey" here, inspired by Dolly Parton, but couldn't find the original.

This one is great too:
I Want You - Bob Dylan

Oh, feck me, I'm loosing another night's sleep ::) ;D :D :D

Van the man
Van Morrison If I Ever Needed Someone

Another song inspired by the devil
Tenacious D - Tribute
"Responsibility is not a matter of giving or taking, responsibility is something you share" -Binnatics

Those artists and just about the rest of all country singers we have/had I knew on a personal basis. Not far from where I used to live there was a huge open air recreation grounds owned by a man my parents knew from when I was still very young and most of our artists started their singing careers at this place, every Sunday for many years these artists would perform there. Gene Rockwell grew up with a cousin of my first wife, he had very bad Polio in both legs but always managed to walk onto stage, he refused to use his wheelchair when performing. Barbara Ray and I lived very close to each other for many years, we regularly bump into each other when shopping at our local grocery store, I would often babysit one of her kids while she's on stage

Good topic!  Although I'm not a hard core country fan, there are quite a few artists that I like

Fiach

Yes h is irish Binn, I dont really like him, but he is very popular, only reason I included him, was because his version if the only one like the original version of that song. Here is a song of his I like, first by him, then some covers of it, by another singer called Mary Coughlan.

Christy Moore - Ride On (Live Jools Holland 2006).

Mary Coughlan - Ride On

I love Tarintinos choice of music in his movies, This Antonio Banderas with Los Lobos from the movie Desperado.

El Cancion Del Mariachi from the movie "Desperado"
