Here are the locations of possible Merc Wars that can be started through loud gunfire or flares, that I've found so far. Add more and as you do I'll put them in the first post as an archive.

Leboa Seko
-Cockfights and nearby guardpost
-Police Station, road patrol directly south
-Northern map, gun shop patrol and unmarked town to the south
-Not sure, but Mokuba and the med post north of it

Boa Seko
-Weelegol, road patrols north (not sure which)
-Middle map, western explosive post and the lagoon garrison to the south
-Middle map, northwest medical post and patrol to the north
-Northwest map, idle truck at the north and the ammo post
-Sepoko and the grenade truck west of it
-Airfield and both the medical post to the southeast and flame post to the north

Add some more! The bots are surprisingly good at leaving each other wounded...easy pickings for my Deagle  :P

good idea, didn't find any other than cockfights... nice research :-X

Good one, TheFishLord - your thread should give FC2 players hours of additional fun!   :-X

With this info along with Art's i can't wait to try it out.  Thanks for the tips Fishlord

Yeap... I'm with you guys.
Now I have what to do this weekend  ;)

I've been playing around (other locations) and only found mercs joining  forces so far. Great. "when two tribes go to war" (Frankie goes to Hollywood...ahhh, the 80s) is misunderstood by some of those mercs  ;D

Started my first merc war today!

Was riding in a Unimog coming from Pala toward the Cock Fight arena - decided to blast through the GP that is close to the arena and a couple of mercs hopped into their AT and gave chase.  In the mean time, my Unimog had alerted the mercs in the arena and one of them yelled "blast 'im", but by then I'm through the area (that Unimog can take tons of damage).  I stop my rig and listen to the sound of distant gun fire.  Delighted, I walked back to perch on a large rock overlooking the area and there they were, in a full battle with me just watching.  Shotguns, assault rifles, grenades, exploding barrels - it was just like watching an Arnold movie...

OHH GOODY!!!  Another way to fave fun.  I've been doing some of the things that Art did with his Grenade Truck..like shooting at them in front and counting the flips it does before it hits. Got to 3 so far, but I think that was real luck.
I learned to keep off the road a bit so when it comes down I'm not under it.
The sun is over the yardarm somewhere in the world..time for a beer :)  :)

PZ

Goody indeed!!!

I'm now looking for opportunities to lure GP mercs into truck and have them chase me through other hostile areas.  And, you can bet that every time I need to pass through the arena, I'll blast by that GP to have some merc war fun.

Isn't it ironic; we've all seen the complaints on other forums about how hostile the merc patrols are, and here we are turning that hostility against the mercs.  Initially with the Datsun Dummies and ATP's chasing us, and now with the ability to cause fire fights between the mercs!

EDIT:  by the way spaceboy, I did this on the PS3 this morning, so anyone can do it, PC and consoles!

Art Blade

indeed... I never read anywhere else about that (merc wars) maybe we've got it exclusively  ;)

I'm sure that we have - fantastic find.  After all though, where else do you see such an experienced group of FC2 gamers!  OWG members rock!   :-X :-X

FYI, I just created a merc war using the same method on the PC so I suspect it will w@&k on all platforms.  One thing however, when going through a location, you probably need to be sure that your passage through alerts the mercs - if at night, they might not wake up and therefore not start a war.

So, to create a merc war, this is what appears to be necessary:  alert the mercs in one area and induce them to chase you into another area where you have also alerted the mercs.  When the alerted mercs from both areas encounter one another, they see each other as adversarys rather than as allies.

Art Blade

That's interesting. I was wondering why it is so difficult (impossible) to get them to go to war, except Cock Fights.

CF works just like "drive through the GP into CF, and vanish." Then the GPMercs walk to the border of CF and the CFM walk towards the GPM who in turn think they're going to be attacked and start opening fire. Of course an IED in the middle starts both parties to go ballistic on whoever moves first ;D

I was at the Leboa Fort and alerted those mercs and made them follow me through a huge chunk of map, and "we" reached another GP (which I think I had put on alert with some IEDs). Yet none of them attacked the other mercs. Hmmm...  ::) I don't find it easy to set them up, but CF always is a walk in the park  ;D

Maybe TheFishLord will give us a few pointers on how he got the wars to start in some of those other areas - I'd sure like to have this fun on a regular basis in other areas!   ;)

Art Blade

right you are...

please, TheFishlord, we'd appreciate some advice  :)

I have to stress the importance of the flare pistol and the mortar. They are loud, easily visible weapons. Flares obviously travel some distance and then explode; if you can get it to land in a camp while you're in the enemy of that camp's camp, then they'll go to the source. Though it might take htem a while. Hitting multiple posts with marker shots from the mortar leads them straight to your position, while you slink away and they find opposing armies  ;D

AS50, Desert Eagle, and the aformentioned weapons I believe are the most likely to attract attention. Of course you can always go with the good old fashioned drive-a-vehicle through approach.

I actually discovered most of these by accident though. Most of them I hung aroudn long enough that, for instance at Weelegol and the Police Station the enemy launched a flare; the road patrols came running and I was surprised to find they were enemy. Can't really offer much more, just experiment  :-X

Art Blade

thanks for the details  :-X

I think, from what you say, the key is "send a signal from GP A to GP B"

Very interesting is the mortar marker... those go really far. I was just thinking, with that you might lead Pala to war with Port Selao  ;D

Your advice makes perfect sense, TheFishLord - thanks for the tips.  I've really enjoyed, and am now listening carefully for the sound of distant gun fire.

Hacko

I started trying this out last night but no success yet, but I know it will come, just gotta keep practicing, and it's fun too. :-X

Art Blade

still no luck here, tried to mortar some mercs from TaeMoCoMine, shooting from a nearby GP. set off IEDs and all, but the mercs didn't fight each other. Same at the Airfield in Bowa. Need to play around more.

I noticed that CockFights doesn't have that nearby GP when you start a new career, it's just not there :) (Always wondered since the merc war topic, why no one created a war from the very beginning)

I might have experienced the merc war without really knowing that it was happening.  Today, I blasted through the cock fight arena toward Pala and the mercs in the arena started chasing me.  I also blasted through the GP to the east and they started firing at me, but I kept going.  I continued to hear gunfire even though I was safe, so I sent back to see that a merc war had started between an ATP from the arena and the residents of the GP.

I seem to recall similar gunfire in earlier plays through, but I was too chicken to go back to see what it was about - maybe it was a merc war, and I missed it!

Art Blade

PZ, I managed to do what you did, found that locked safe house (used the small path in the west of CockFights, I didn't even know there was one until today!), enticed the mercs with three IEDs to following me to Cock Fights, ran towards the other GP which took me one more IED, and then savegame... watched an extended version of Merc Wars, and some time in between got that message "you just unlocked a safehouse." Excellent tip  :-X  :)

Create a merc war, involving a GP, Cock Fight mercs (optionally mercs from locked safehouse in the west) and an arms dealer's truck... Funny if you get two messages stating that you unlocked a safehouse and mission accomplished for the AD  ;D

(I shot the escort and the driver of the truck and drove it myself into CF)

By the way, you can hear gunshots and hand grenade explosions way down the road outside CF

Good one Art,
Just so happens that I got tangled up with that safe house today when starting another merc war, unfortunately they did not join the festivities at the arena and I had to do them in to save myself.

I'll tell you what though, when I see that I have to go on a mission, I'll often go out of my way to drive my Unimog through the cock fight arena to start a fight.  I just love sitting on the hill overlooking the arena and watching the mercs that are normally on me like hornets, battle it out among themselves.  In essence, it adds another level of immersion to be able to watch the imagined "factions" go at one another.

Art Blade

that made me chuckle "had to do them in to save myself"  ;D

What amazes me is how incredibly far you can hear gun shots. If you look at the map, east of CF down the road where that one diamond is. I managed to drive to that spot and still heard automatic weapons, pistol shots, gun shots... a little farther down the road I heard the muffled sound of a far explosion (made me grin, obviously hand grenades).

And that perhaps is the answer to an old question - I once asked if anyone else had heard muffled explosions without obvious reasons... I might have started a merc war without knowing it :)
