I got to play the demo of Bayonetta (due or release 8/Jan/2010), It was naturally very DMC-ish, but it was quite good, the way the bosses appear and their sheer size is very impressive.

The action is pretty fast paced and the framerate is great, but the gfx do take a hit, I would have expected a bit more oomph! this far into the current gen.

Its interesting the lessons learned from DMC. If you recall, DMC was notoriously difficult on Normal and atrociously easy on Easy, which meant the game was unplayable or unchallenging for alot of gamers.

With Bayonetta, its all about "spectacle", its like the devs dont want you to miss anything, even allowing you to play on "automatic", which from what I gather, you dont have to bother too much with combos and stuff, just relax and enjoy the ride.

The Normal setting is easy-ish too making the game quite accessible, also, it has a nice innovation, in that, you can practice your combos during the loading screen, which is good, because there are plenty of loading screens and they are a bit long.

The combos are easy and even button mashing produces quite exceptional results, but the prescribed combos are very stylish, which seems to be the buzz word for this game. Apart from the seamless blend of moves that decimate your opponents, you will sometimes get onscreen prompts to "Torture" your opponents, which see them being kicked into different medieval torture implements that appear onscren. The sight of her hair morphing into a giant hellhound, is also something to behold, as it tears a boss to shreds.

The soundtrack is also much different to DMC, forgoing the faux metal, for a very eclectic mixture of choral, Jap Pop and .....Swing? Yup, ol blue eyes is back :)

A game to keep an eye out for in early january, if Santa only brought you a lump of coal at christmas. :)

silly question Fiach, but what is DMC?   I'm not making the connection to a game.

I originally thought this one was a throwaway due to the whole thing about her hair being her clothes and her weapons.  Kind of strange I guess, but I have heard some positive things about the gameplay - including what you wrote.  I know it won't make the cut for me in Jan as my gaming budget for at least the first half of 2010 is spoken for, but maybe some time in the future when the price drops...

Devl May Cry, it has 4 games, the first was made by the guy who made Bayonetta.

It follows a guy called Dante, who has two pistols and an assortment of melee weapons, they were on PS2, moving to the next gen machines with DMC 4.

It wouldnt be too far from God of War in its mechanics.
