I will admit it's not very safe from a keeping the holes out of the body point of view, but I have perfected a technique of kamikaze-ing the weapons convoys.  Take two IED's (where one is good, two are better) and place them on your vehicle.  Ram the front of the convoy big truck, jump out, run and go BOOM!  Very effective and very fast...  just not very safe...

Ramming the truck will cause it to stop and by the time the truck 3 points out of the way, too late.  Sometimes you can get the AT escorts too. I find I get the most satifaction from using the ATV.

haha, that's a good one fragger; sounds like tons of fun - will try it the next time through (I've already done all my convoy missions this time).  I rarely use anything but MP5, 6P9, and dart plus grenades and Molotov's on just about any mission.  There isn't anything you can't do with carefully placed grenades.  One method I like is when a convoy crosses a bridge or goes through a narrow area like a valley or guard post.  Park my rig (usually a Unimog) perpendicular to the road and wait for the convoy to arrive - they must stop and that's when a grenade does the job quick and easy.

In those instances where the convoy does not go through a constricted area, I usually ram them and eventually wear them down, bit I'd not thought of the IED trick in exactly that way.

I like placing three IEDs at roughly ten paces apart.  When the convoy truck hits the middle one, the escorts are roughly over the two outside ones - all three are airborn simultaneously.

I've yet to land all three one on top of the other, but have had the convoy truck land upside down on top of one of the escorts a few times now.   ;D

Yeah, it is a good one - wish I'd thought of it  ;D

spaceboy

that does sound fun.  I'll have to try it.  The only FC2 I've been doing lately is MP about once a week.

I recall one time where I was too quick to click "Save", after which the truck landed on me!  :'(

The idea is great. I did use that technique on GPs but never thought of convoys LOL  :-X :-X

I have used the IED trick on convoys, it's great fun.

As for IED's:
One time I was getting an IED out to place around a GP, one of the mercs saw me and started shooting at me. The next thing I know a big explosion happened, and my rescue buddy had to come and rescue me. The merc happened to hit the IED I was holding with one of his bullets he was shooting at me. Scared the sh*t out of me. ;D

Art Blade

wow, that's a new one... never happened to me (luckily) but now that I know it, I might try using godmode and a juicy IED in my hands, and innocently start walking around a GP...  :-* ;D

Mechsican

personally I love the IED's for convoys  but i use 2 similar tactics when dealing with them with the IED's...

1. lay a chain of IED's in 20ft increments along the road in which the convoy will drive through. once the vehicles are all driving ontop of them BOOM 3-4 cars down in one press of a button.

2. similar to the ramming method but i lay one on my car and park in the road. and lay 2 in a horizontal line across the road. if they crash or drive around they all go BOOM much like the first method.

either way I receive weapons and there are chunky bits of cars for miles.

PZ

Good ideas, particularly the second one is one I haven't tried  :-X

fragger

Tried Mech's #2 technique last night - works a treat! Nearly got brained by a flying door, but was certainly spectacular!
Cool tip, Mechsican! :-X

fragger

Still working up the nerve to try the original technique...

I did the Flora Guilen mission where you are instructed to take out Mbantuwe's furniture convoy - took IEDs with me this time, intending to like that narrow passage southeast of the southeast bus stop.  Unfortunately the convoy arrived before I could do so, and a fire fight ensued.  I backed, threw Molotovs and the escort merc trucks bit the dust.  Bad for me, the trucks all burned and exploded, mine included.  That left only the big truck, which I loaded with an IED on the hood, and drove it back to the bus stop.

At the bus stop, I heard the roar of an ATP coming my way so I hopped out, backed up just in time to detonate the IED as the patrol was beside the truck - Flora's mission completed and patrol eliminated in one easy step - kind of fun to do it this way.

great story PZ,  and you're right JRD, the best moments to me are normally when things don't go as planned and you have to react to the world you're playing in.  That's entertainment to me.

It was fun and initially unintentional - after all the ATs blew up and I had only the big truck left I thought to myself "...great... what the heck do I do with it now; I need transportation and I need to destroy the truck..." so I stuck the IED and started driving, not having a plan in mind until I heard the roar of those poor fools heading toward me!

Sometimes these unintentional gems make for great fun  :-X

Art Blade

hehe, fun story :)

"not as planned..." Usually I have this loadout: 6p9,mp5,dart. for some time now (never did that before) I use the m79 one-handed grenade launcher instead of the 6p9. It just so happened that I was facing an ATP headed towards me and I wanted to shoot the driver from the hip with a burst of my mp5 - I saw a big enough gun in my screen, mistaking the m79 for my mp5, and shot. Instead of a silent "t-t-t-t-t" it went <POP>BANG!! and the ATP came flying at me doing a somersault. All I could do was staring at the burning chunks zipping past me, with my jaw dropping to the floor.

I can tell you... don't doze off while playing, and confuse a grenade launcher with a silenced weapon... gives you quite a start  ;D
