Here's one to keep an eye out for.  It's an open world turn of the century western game (pzrzao, I think you had mentioned you like old Westerns).  It's by Rockstar (GTA series) which I never played GTA as I'm not into Gang games really but no doubt they know how to do open world.

The preview in Game Informer sounds promising and it says "he must contend with dangerous open ranges filled with antagonist animals, treacherous mountain passes, and border towns filled with unsavory characters armed with six-shooters"

It says PS3 and xbox360 so I don't know if it will be on PC too.

Sounds like a winner spaceboy!

By the way, I'm glad that you have your old avatar back; your posts just didn't seem right without it...

spaceboy

Yeah, I'd been meaning to upload 'ole Johnny for awhile.  Something about the Man in Black that felt right for the world of Far Cry 2.

Check out this debut trailer for RDD.  Game is due late fall.  Rumored console only, but this is by Rockstar and GTA was on PC so who knows...

Call of Juarez should get us into our Old West mindsets and then we'll move into RDD.

Yeap... that's a cool vid.
Rockstar did GTA Vice City after Scarface, now they are doing the same after old western movies.
And they sure know how to make open world, sandbox style games.
I expect deep characters and great story allied with freedom of roaming and excellent shoot outs.
If they do a bit of GTA there, then you will have gambling, girls, booze, robbery... all apart from the main storyline.   8)

Late fall eh? Same date as OFP2  :(

Now let me check my agenda.......  ;D
Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity

Man, that looks almost like watching a John Wayne movie!

KingRat

Hey, got my xbox mag today and there's an article on Red Dead Redemption...They call it GTA wild west, but the free roaming sounds good...walk, ride horse or take train. Three maps, The North, The Frontier and Mexico.

Haven't played a western since Dead Man's Hand  :) I like what I read about this one, so I'll be keeping an eye on it.

spaceboy

I like your taste KingRat.  I've been looking at this one for a bit now based on an article from GameInformer.  There is a thread on it - here.  There is a trailer on the 4th post or so, feel free to add whatever info or videos you find to the post.  It is high on the watch list for sure.   :-X

Serves me right for only checking the front page of OT  :-[

Another plus for this game....the wildlife, unlike FC2, has bears, wolves, cougars and snakes that will attack you...or you can hunt them and trade the pelts for profit  :-X

This fall, hope it's not delayed. I've been waiting years for Alan Wake  :D

Anyway, maybe this could be merged with the other thread?

spaceboy

merged.  And no worries about not seeing it, we aren't nitpickers here, just trying to have some fun.  We'd much rather encourage members to bring interesting info to the table and have a couple duped posts, than to chastise folks for not noticing some old thread.

I love the idea of aggressive wildlife  - it should be a big change from what we're used to in FC2.  Keep us posted if you find any other info.

Personally, I can't wait for this one - seems kind of like a Call of Juarez 2 in open world form.  There are a couple of places in COJ2 where you kind of have free reign to accomplish a mission, and those parts were quite fun.

mmosu

April 2010 you say?

Hmm, the month after GOW3 releases . . . might have my head too far buried in that one still in April.  Maybe RDR can be my summer fling this year  ;)

Fiach

Which reminds me, I still have to play Call of Juarez, totaly back burnered that one  :D

This one is looking good! I imagine Rockstar should do this one up right.

cheers, spaceboy, I did have troubles too.

Nice vid, looks promising :)

By the way, something I found about RDR and RockStar

Whoa, weird...

The game is looking awsome!  One question - am I going to be totally lost with the plot if I didn't play Red Dead Revolver?

spaceboy

Good to see we think alike Red!  I merged this new thread of yours to an old one that got buried in "other games".  This one is one we've been watching for awhile too.  It is on my "buy" list this year for sure.  I can only imagine it will bring a breath of fresh "western" air to our gaming this spring/summer.  Rockstar knows open world games, and the western theme is not overdone.   I hope it leads to many great discussions and stories for us.

Totally missed the other posts about it Spaceboy  :-\ . Cheers :-X

I can't wait to see how this one is received as well - although western themes are not my favorite, I formerly would not have looked at Assassin's Creed 2 as something I would appreciate until I actually broke down and purchased the game.

Here's some pre-order info for US stores...

Thanks for the update spaceboy - makes it a tough choice.  I wonder if any of these "options" will be incorporated into future DLC - like the Templar lairs in AC2 were an option in the second DLC, for a price, of course.

spaceboy

I think the outfit might be something you unlock late anyways, you just get it early.  The warhorse may be pre-order only - I can't imagine anyone paying to download a special horse.  I'll make do with whatever trusty steed I find (and try to keep him ala Art's FC2 favorite truck) - that's what I tried to do in the first Assassin's Creed lol

The golden gun also sounds like a unique thing that won't be avail.  Who knows.

They are all relatively lame imo except for the soundtrack.  I'm really stoked about that.

Hey check out this video. While watching game footage listen to the person giving a bit of a walkthrough of the game's environment and NPCs.   I'm hella-excited about it now...
