It's some time now since I played around with the modding.
I only modded a few things.
AS50    Increased the power of it's ammo, the sound mod isn't working
AR-16   Full Auto, Increased the clip to 90
No more Malaria
Increased the jump
One Diamond purchase
I'm also using the "SkipIntroMovie, Unlimited/Ammo, Unlimited/Reliability and AllWeapon/Unlock cheats

PZ

Nice, GKID  :-X

My go to mod is about the same as nex's except the AS50 is silent and uses the dart sound, and the AR16 magazine is 400 rounds, and no weapons degradation.

Having single diamond purchases after having played through so many times is very nice since you don't need to collect so many to get right into the game.  Having malaria gone is great too. One of the best benefits is no weapon degradation which allows me to travel lots of different routs without having to incessantly visit a weapon shop for a fresh weapon.

nexor

I also used the dart sound for the AS50 PZ, but the mercs behaviour tells they can hear it.
The times I used the dart gun one can see the mercs know something is happening but they're not sure what

PZ

I remember having to change something about should level or awareness - unfortunately I don't remember the specifics.  ????

I'm back in too. Oh, Africa, how I've missed you ^-^

I haven't played FC2 for a good few years. I've forgotten just what a gem of a game this is. Well, not forgotten exactly, just had my head turned by FCs 3 and 4. Heh - even as FC2 was loading, the guy walking into (or out of) the sunset to the accompaniment of African drums brought back a flood of fond memories.

This is still the best title of the series, no question. Best lighting and weather effects, best day/night cycle, and far and away the most immersive title of the franchise. I love the straightforwardness of FC2. No magical binoculars and enemy tagging, no drug trips or mythological nonsense, no interminable cutscenes. And it's nice to be able to traipse around the countryside without being dive-bombed by eagles or being attacked by some crabby animal every few meters.

FC2 has a much better selection of weaponry too, IMHO - less is more in this case. There were far too many weapons in FC4, I never used half of them. Who needs eight different types of pistol, especially when most of them do about as much damage as a pea-shooter? Who needs both a hunting bow and a recurved bow? Why two types of MG42? I mean, really. I do miss the gyrocopters and the hell-for-leather driving of FC4 (can't drift in FC2) but I'm happy to trade those in for an overall better gaming experience.

Playing vanilla, no mods or cheats, just the Fortune Pack goodies. I just finished the intro/tutorial section, now I'm off to make my way in this grimy, dog-eat-dog world.

Long live FC2 :-X

OWGKID

I would happily pay for a remaster with better graphics, (PBR rendering as seen in FC4, textures looks incredibly realistic), FC4's audio system (dynamical reverbation), weapon customization and the ability to use any weapon in any weapon slot. Perhaps have the entire world open from the start or keep the mission structure like the original.

Cheers nexor, me old china :-))

@GKID, yeah, that would be nice. FC2 is still looks and sounds terrific considering its age (on a video game timescale) but a modern-day graphical and audio update would be awesome, as long as they didn't mess with the core game and the missions. I don't want to command mystical tigers, battle African demons or have QTE knife-fights with Aussie scumbags :-() Weapon slots - I could go either way. On one hand it would be nice to have whatever weapons you like in whichever slot, on the other hand having the three types makes for some interesting tactical decisions. And you never know - maybe one day Ubisoft will snap out of their fixation with having only half the map available at the start. That approach has gotten rather old.

A few things I'd forgotten took me by surprise, such as the ability of wounded mercs to drag themselves into cover and plug you in the back with their pistols if you don't watch out. I was made to remember that the hard way ??? Actually, I'd forgotten about mercs getting wounded altogether. I'd also forgotten how much more intense the combat could be. FC2 guys are crack shots compared to their more recent counterparts, and the uncertainty of whether you've nailed all the bad guys in a big location such as the Railyard or if there are some still creeping around really adds to the tension. No detection meters or other nanny aids in this game! I did Michelle's mission to get her case from said Railyard and I was sure I'd polished off all the mercs. I even wandered around for a while to pick up ammo and stuff, then without warning I started getting hit. There was still one bad guy lurking around that I'd missed, and he totally took me by surprise.

But man, the weather effects. I was wandering around in dawn's early light and it just looked sensational. Later FC games can't hold a candle to the lighting and atmospherics of #2, there's no contest. Ditto the day/night cycle. A day in FC2 feels more like a day, instead of going from day to night to day again in just a few minutes. I hung around outside MIke's and watched the sun setting behind the hills, and it was actually going down, not just changing position between one glance and the next or being dependent on my movement. I even watched the shadows creeping along the ground as the sun set. I've noticed all these things before of course, but after several years it knocked me out all over again. And that effect when you lob a grenade into the shrubbery and a great cloud of leaves blows out then drifts away is still one of the coolest things I've seen in gaming.

Listen to me, I'm rambling on like a noob :-D

Well, the Dunia engine was pretty solid, it was built from Cryengine 1 (same engine used by the Crysis games and that game is still regarded as a graphical masterpiece). Indeed, there are a lot of small details that got removed in the other entries. Combat is definitely something that makes the game challenging, you may screw up iof you don't finish off everyone ;)

As mentioned in my post regarding Ubi's new policies, they definitely said that breaking this old formula is important. The game looks very good, when cranked up on Ultra, but there are some modern day effects missing (PBR, post-process AA techniques (SMAA, TSSAA), tesselation and sub surface scattering).

My favourite spot is the safe house on the S/W corner of the northern area, the one at the railway line

fragger

I like that area too. I always seem to gravitate towards there at the beginning of a new game. I think it's because the diamond cases are generally easy to get at there, so I can get a bit of an early leg-up on dough. There's also a gold AK nearby, and the Convoy mission in that region is an easy one to do. I like to hide on the abandoned train next to the safe house and ambush the convoy with IEDs when it comes past >:D

I like to do the first Convoy mission early as it unlocks the 6P9, my fave stealth weapon.

I will go to Africa as soon as I'm done rebuilding my pc, Windows 10 crashed on me, again after an update, this is the third time  >:((
I'm re-installing Windows 7  8-X

OWGKID

Have you tried to re-install Win 10 before those crashes?
LEGACY

nexor

Unfortunately I get no warning that it's gonna crash   >:D
It just happens everytime after an auto update, when I'm sleeping, I might add  :D

PZ

Dang, nex, that's a shame - maybe some kind of hardware problem?

nexor

Nope PZ, it just crashes and no matter what I do, I cannot get the OS to boot up.
When it happened the second time I got MS techs involved, after a while they gave up and never to be heard from again  :-\\

OWGKID

That sucks. Which steps have you done?

See you at Mike's, LinkHero :-D

I just completed the barge mission and subsequent escape from Mosate Selao in the southern district, followed by the rescue of the barge skipper at Mike's (Andre in this case). Now about to move out into the wilds of Bowa-Seko. I have to re-familiarize myself with the layout of the place, it's been a while...

Earlier, back in Leboa-Sako, I got "killed" and my rescue buddy (Flora) had to come to my aid. I'd forgotten what a cool feature the buddy rescue was 8) I'd also forgotten about some of the "patch-up" animations, like digging a bullet out of my leg with pliers and pushing my broken fingers back into place :-()

PZ

Great to read your memories fragger; I'd forgotten the buddy features as well because the last time I played, it was only the main missions.

OWGKID

Well, looks like someone is having fun :) I can't wait to get back to Norway, I miss my computer and games :)
