Man.. if there is something that makes me want a PS3 is InFamous... (and GT5 too).
I read about that game months ago and was so dissapointed when I found out it was PS3 only.....
It's one kind of story I like.. to be on an urban environment, interacting with scenario and people... the superpowers are a great way to allow you to do things you could only dream of...
Actually, I was so interested in the game and so frustrated at the same time I decided not to read anything about it anymore to keep my grief at low levels :-\

But now spaceboy and PZ got this great board on... I can't help but visit here often to see what I'm loosing...
Good w@&k guys... if I ever buy a PS3, make sure to charge Sony a percentage of my purchase  ;)

I'm with you there, JRD... never had a console but nowadays they release many games for them and at the same time ignore PC players... Glad that some producers came around and started producing games for PC again. All I do is wait for good console games to be (re-)released for us poor sods :)

spaceboy

Ah well, just tell your wives it's a space age looking blu-ray player that happens to have some excellent gaming abilities  ;)

Exclusive do kind of stink for the masses that just want to play great games but can't afford all platforms.  There's great stuff on PC I can't play as well... :'(

That's how I basically got my PS3 - we needed a Blu-Ray player and at the time they were almost as expensive as a PS3, so "why not..." my wife said when I suggested the PS3 can do the double duty...

JRD

Little did she know a game called Far Cry 2 would soon hit the shelves ;)

hehehe... so true... she seemed to be a bit annoyed last night when I was doing forums things...  ::)

I'm probably pushing my luck here...

oops... I hope we don't annoy the moderator by going off topic... :D

spaceboy

oh yeah, I'm annoyed. >:( >:(

are you kidding, I love the off topic funny stuff we wind up talking about.

Little did she know

I love that phrase  :-X (I think it was a line I first noticed in a flick [movie, for the Americans, hehe] once, and in it it had been picked out as a central theme somehow... as in "only X uses that line")

"Stranger than fiction"... Dustin Hoffman says that line...
I always get things from movies... that's how I learned English ;)

I'm a movie fan myself :) I learned quite a bit watching them on DVD, not dubbed that is... Stranger than fiction! I've got to watch that one again sometimes. Money I don't spend on PC stuff I spend on DVDs  ;D

PZ

You and me both... I had to get another full length book case for the DVDs - we have used DVD stores where you often get 3-4 previously-viewed DVDs for $20 or less.

Art Blade

I don't know where to stuff them any more... I really need more shelves to stack them in... collecting movie DVDs for like 8-9 years. here new dvds cost around 20€

JRD

Same here.. only I moved so much I couldn't keep all my DVDs and LPs and CDs and comic books... gave them away each time moving from a state to another...
Now that I'm married and steady, I'm beginning a new CD/DVD/Comic books collection........ hopefully it'll grow  ;D ;D ;D

By the way... thanks for the three-toothed grin... my all time favourite  ;D

cool :) I've kept my LP collection despite of moving... that uses up space too... and I have about the same amount of each. LPs don't use up that much space though.

Us old-timers are probably the only ones who understand the acronym "LP".  I still have mine as well, and recently purchased a USB turn table to convert all those cool old albums into mp3.

Art Blade

hahaha, never thought about how someone could not know "LP" - you're probably right :)

I recently bought a new (!) record player and an amplifier that connects it to the PC... thought I might grab one or two songs :)

edit... uh-oh. AE and BE... turntables, of course.. didn't even realise that then ;) you got a pc-version, I got it old-fashioned... the amp does the trick though.

Back to topic :)

This exclusivity is really annoying though, the best gaming news I have heard in the last year, was that Final Fantasy was coming to the 360, its probably the only game that would have made me think seriously about getting a PS3.

Although I can understand the marketing technique, in the end it just penalises gamers, take the most important (IMO) recent exclusivity release, the GTA4 DLC called Lost and the Dammned. I think Microsoft listed it as its most successful DLC to date. It is nearly like a full game in its scope and difference to GTA4, yet PS3 fans will never get to play it, which must be incredibly disheartning for them. I believe that there is more GTA4 DLC in the pipeline too.

Just looking at my 360 games here in the room and checking the "exclusive titles"
Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey,  Forza 2, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Gears of War, such an awesome list of titles that will never be played by PS3 owners.

But reading the PS3 list is just as annoying for a 360 owner.

Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Resistance, Killzone, Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid.

I believe there was an attempt in the late 90's (or thereabouts) to create a one format gaming system, but I think it went the way of Betamax and HD movies, due to lack of support :(

Back off topic : LP's

I have a ton of them in the attic, I'll have to check out these USB turntables, some of the stuff is just not available any more (irish indie stuff), on saying that I lucked out on ITUNES and found a band called In Tua Nua, who I dearly loved in the 1980's (if you were aware of their history, you would also realise its an odd choice for ITUNES a very niche sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V99B5Hdp-5o&feature=related, but they were an awesome band, so I can now listen to them again in the car.

Maybe we could open a music thread/section or maybe an arts section, where would could recommend music, books, movies etc. to each other, It would aslo give more insght to the members, of what the other members tastes are like?

Fiach,

I agree the format wars for gaming is really quite annoying.  I understand as you say it's all about marketing and MS and Sony are fighting like dogs for our gaming dollars.  (I think this site is the only place on the 'net where x360 and PS3 owners can enjoy each other's company and not argue).  The exclusivity of inFamous almost led us not to put it on the sight, but afterall I was getting the game and it's openworld nature fit the site.  The GTA Lost and Damned was definitely a big hit for MS and it was a loss for PS3 gamers not to enjoy the add-on.  This is exclusive DLC is similar to the new Batman Arkham Asylum game that is multiplatform but only the PS3 version will have a playable Joker in the challenge mode...

We'll probably never see the end of it...I'm sure there is an x360 in my future at some point when an exclusive whetts my appetite enough.

As for music, I'll check out the band you noted (thanks).  I love Irish music, well I should say I've got several Celtic Christmas albums and a couple Chieftains albums.  I can't wait to check them out.  It would be nice to share our music interests here with each other.

Thats cool, I could winzip some horslips, in tua nua and mail it tou you if you want, or you could d/l some stuff from mininova.org if you would like me to recommend something :)

With regard to the different platforms, I recently had my second dead 360, it took me 1.5 months from contacting MS, to getting a replacement. I was fuming and had some serious arguments with the call centre supervisors.

In the end I got a new 360, but I swore that once I had completed all the games I had left, I would be trading them and the 360 for a PS3.

In the end ..... I bought another 60 gig 360 and two 120 gig hard drives ( they were really cheap, like €40 each), I used the following reasoning:

I had a ton of games I loved, take Forza and TDU, I have an awesome collection of cars in just those two games. Plus a fair bit of DLC, the list of 360 exclusives in my collection added significantly to the argument that made me stick with Microsoft.

Exclusivity works  :-[ :'(

That'd be great if you any good examples of their music.  And any recommendations you have I can check out at that site would also be appreciated.  Thanks.

spaceboy, I would remove the email addy. You'll never know who's going to use it now, thinking of google bots... A private message should be less problematic.

Fiach, I read you mentioned MassEffect and TDU as exclusive. I'm glad they ported them to PC :) I think I even have Halo3 (damn, long time).

And I love TDU... have played it for so long, the internal timer froze at like 230 hours, in all of my different careers, more than like 80,000 miles driven LOL. Even more luck, they released the expansion pack DLC with many many more cars. I love TDU really a lot, and never erase it :) Even got a G25 wheel for it (and for GRID) ehehe   ;D

TDU wasnt exclusive, I just mentioned it as a game in which I have accumulated alot of awesome cars, loves me Shelby!
Actually anyone that likes cars and FC2 would love TDU, awesome open world racer, with the whole island of Oahu for you to drive around.

Halo 3 on your PC? I know Halo 2 was released for PC, unless you have a cracked one?

Just as you seem to like racers, I highly recommend Forza 2.

Apart from the sheer quality of its racing, there is an art section in the garage, where you can customise your paint jobs, I dont just mean choose whether you want gloss or metallic pink, you can actually draw on the cars!

I have an awesome collection ranging from Dirty Harry movies, Bruce Lee movies, HK47 from KOTOR, Jessica Alba in her Sin City pose, Audrey Hepburn in breakfast at Tiffanys, selections of Superheroes...... just a brilliant collection of cars :

I thought it was halo3, maybe you're right and it is halo2. it is a legally purchased game (I buy all my stuff).

Those pics are really impressive... did you hand-paint any (or all) of these? Then you're really good :)
