So there is a new feature (read way to sell you stuff eventually) from Ubisoft that is available in Assassin's Creed. And I think RUSE maybe?

Anyways you earn points by playing the game and accomplishing certain things (like trophies) and then you can "spend" them on content.  For instance you can get the ability to carry more knives, or a new outfit for Ezio, but I went with unlocking the Auditore family tomb.

It's basically like an Assassin's tomb except accessed in the Villa.  Some timed platforming, no guards.  Not bad but not as expansive as the other Assassin's tombs I've been too.  The best part is there are letters/writings/messages on the wall that were left by an ancestor of Ezio.  Perhaps his grandfather, but it might have been an even older generation...  I'm not putting together the timeline in my head right now.  But it gives an interesting and compelling backstory to how the Auditores, as descendants of Altair, came to be in Italy.  Rightfully so, you complete it and it's called "paying respects".  Plus there's some treasure to loot in the tomb just like the others...

All you need to do is sign up with a Ubisoft account (this may turn off some people - Art I'm thinking about you) but I think it was just an email address.

Uplay is in BETA mode right now so not alot else is available.  There is an option for "store" marked coming soon, so I'm sure they'll offer you a way to pay with real dollars either for game content or perhaps real world items (like tshirts maybe?)

I think I signed up with ubi for FC2 MP (which never worked) so maybe I'm already prepared. Thanks for your concern, matey :) I do hate it  ;D

That sounds interesting spaceboy - thanks for posting.  I too have a Ubi account - hope I can remember the login  ;D

Nice find there!  :-X

EA have a similar thing with Dragon Age, apart from the free DLC you get for linking your game to an EA website account, they also let you play a Diablo version of DA:O, where as you complete levels, you win content that you can download (free) to your game, from their site.

It all seems a bit Steam-ish, only time will tell I guess.  :-\

What I like about this form of DLC as opposed to pre-order bonuses is that it's available to everyone and its free.  I'm ok with it being locked to achievements in-game.  It helps give incentive to complete achievements.  I can even stand for a small amount of DLC that costs money.  But yeah, free is best!

On that note, there are two planned DLC areas/missions for AC2 coming next year.  No word on free or not.  I'll find the info and post it when I get a chance.  I believe I recall them being called "Bonfire of the Vanities" and "Forli"

Hey space,

I can hardly get uplay to w@&k - keeps telling me that the Ubi server is online, and then whenever I manage to log in, any further menu click results in the server going offline - have you experienced any of these issues?

The funny thing is that Ubi server must be keeping track of my progress because I have 120 credits on the server, despite not being able to log into uplay.

spaceboy

Is this is all from within the game menu or are you loggin into a ubi website?  I have not had any connection issues to uplay from the game menu.  Be sure to only go to the rewards/credits - the other options say "coming soon".

I'm in the game and have selected it through the uplay menu item.  It is the PS3 that eventually tells me that the Ubi server is not available.  I'm wondering if I just have a connection that is a bit too slow, or if wireless is the problem.

Art Blade

my first thought was your new (well, used to be new) wireless and the firewall rules. Maybe they are blocking traffic.

it may be that.  I believe you said you had some connection issues in the past.  My PS3 is only 12 feet away from my router and the wireless works great.

@space - unfortunately my router is a few walls away and I've not option (other than a wireless repeater) to increase the signal.

@Art - I thought so too, but it sometimes breaks through for a minute or so.  The really odd thing is that the PS3 does it's 200 mb plus updates without problem.  It could be a Ubi server issue - certain ports need to be forwarded.  Who knows - I'm sure it will w@&k itself out one of these days.

I discovered the following when browsing the 'net for a possible solution.  Evidently the Uplay server is in beta and there are "issues" that were being looked at in November.  It sure does seem like it takes a long time to resolve things  ;D

perhaps its a time of day thing?

I thought so too, but I've tried at all times from 4am to midnight - still no luck.  According to the Ubi post, only some people seem to be affected.  I doubt that it is the system itself because it correctly logs my activity to the Uplay site, but I can't pull information from it.
