Despite our love for Far Cry 2, we know there are many exciting games in our futures.  Since we enjoy the interactions with our members so much, it seems prudent to create all new forums for new games as they are released.  This poll is just to get an idea of whether our members would be interested in a set of forums dedicated to a new game. You can change your vote, so feel free to mull it over  ;)

The new game is Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising.  The Off Topic thread regarding this game is here (http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=23.0).  Below is some key information on this game gathered from members and posted on that thread.

Once players have completed the campaign, a Mission Editor enables gamers to create their own single player and multiplayer missions.

Play areas of more than 135 square miles give players a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions.

The world is persistent, so that buildings destroyed in one campaign mission will be destroyed in the next

OFP says, we've got a really big focus on co-op and great multiplayer, but the game is difficult. The game is going to have a difficult learning curve. So there has to be a good single-player component to allow you to develop the skills so that when you enter the multiplayer you're good at fighting.

What's it like when a 7.62mm round passes by your head? What does it sound like? What is that feeling you get in your chest? Now, if you're fundamentally bullet proof, and you can hide behind a rock and regen your health and then run out again, you're never going to get that feeling. It's a theme park effect. We went, well, there has to be lethality. The game has to be lethal. There has to be a sense of mortality. If a 50 calibre round hits your shoulder it's blowing your arm off.

All I know about this game is very interesting, but I'll wait until it is released to see if there are any hooks attached...

It's strange, you can find equal info saying Sept 09 as say 5/26...

remember "Duke Nukem Forever"? In a recent game mag they listed estimated release dates for upcoming games, and for DukeNukemForever they put 06/06/666  ;D

Hmmm, okay, so I did a little hunting....
ebgames Sept. 1/09  and  Amazon May 26/09 can't find any other dates.

On the official site they only say summer 09 and in the forums they ban speculation on the release date.

So, I guess its out when its out!    ;)

Someone in the official Codemasters forums said release during TBA... don't know what it is, but I guess is some kind of game event. A convention or a fair...
Any hints?

I'm still a most likely yes.  Timing is probably the key - Uncharted2 comes out 10/13. This is like when inFamous and FUEL came out one week apart...  Is the release date the same for all versions? 

today I purchased the pre-order version (10€). The price will be subtracted from the game's price if I purchase it in that store. I got a bonus code for a special mission and a DVD with two episodes of "Weaponology." :)

Wow, that's a hefty discount unless the store marks the game up by that much.  ;D

Not sure if that is all platforms spaceboy, but it will be exciting to focus on a game that more of the membership can play  :-X

absolutely. while FUEL was multiplatform - most of our members like to hold something more lethal than a gear shift in their hands lol.

lol, good one spaceboy - I agree about FC2 being better than ever, especially with new gems like the one Art discovered at the pipeline.  It's kind of funny - when I return to FC2 after being away from the game for a while, the mercs almost seem like old friends that I've missed!  ;D

hey, that's one of the benefits of a mulitplayer round of FC2 - you can run around with your merc friends!  It is a departure to see the same mercs you've been shooting at for so long to wait for you to hop into an assault truck with them!

Amazon.com reports that the release date of October 6th is the same for PS3, XBox, and PC version of OFP2.

absolutely, without a doubt. Just gutted that most of you guys will get it 3 days before i can.

Now that the wounds are open...

I won`t be able to get OFP2 on release and, most likely, won`t be able to play it as well when I manage to get it as I`m left with my middle range (although brand new core duo 2,66 GHz, 256 GPU) lap top untill the end of 2010.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
(maybe play it in low settings, but still sad  :( )

Which brings me to my point: so far I`m the mod for the OFP2 board, but how good is a mod if he can`t play the game, right? So there is a spot open for new candidates... who wants to apply for the job, enlist the army, engage the fight etc... reply here and we can come up with a name pretty soon... it`s about time, anyway  ;)
I`m not online too often now and when I am, it`s a looooooooooooow connection, so feel free to name a guy and replace me...

As for OFP2 board mod, i'm more than willing and able to offer my services to OWG as i have the time on my hands now as will most certainly be getting and playing the hell out of it as soon as shops open on the 9th.

lol, I didn't get a jewel in a case. It's a term for that hard plastic wrapper you see around your DVDs  ;D

My bonus was indeed a code for a bonus mission, but in the "DVD case" was a DVD with two episodes of Weaponology. Tanks was one of them I believe  :)

I'm like JRD - I enjoy reading about a game even if I don't have it.  In fact, I enjoy the game even more if I can read spoilers - lets me understand more of what is happening to me in the sometimes chaotic game environment (of course, I'm a bit weird though)  ;D
