Title: Far Cry 2 set in Guinea-Bissau?
Post by: seasalt on April 12, 2010, 03:29:26 AM

Seems to fit. Close the ocean off and call it a lake. Borders on the Sahel.

Morte - Allencar's tattoo - Portuguese for death.

Too recent I know, but in Guinea-Bissau conflict it was the President versus the Army. Here's a Far Cry 2 moment.

QuoteOn March 2, 2009, however, President Vieira was assassinated by what preliminary reports indicated to be a group of soldiers avenging the death of the head of joint chiefs of staff, General Batista Tagme Na Wai, who had been assassinated by explosion on Sunday, March 1, 2009.

Sound like Jackal's w@&k?

LOL! funny comment  ;D

But indeed, seasalt's quote could have been background of one of the mission briefings in FC2  :)

Ahhhh... if only there were an FC2 mission creator......   you wouldn't even need to make new maps, just use what we got and create your own wacky missions....  like how about an escort mission where you actually have to get those refugees who normally give you medicine to the airport, or border? How about your buddy actually riding along in the shotgun seat or on the mounted weapon??

I mean, that's just a couple off the top of my head.....

The first thing I'd do is nick that cab from the driver who takes you to the hotel. Cool car, never again seen in the game :)

Interesting speculations there, seasalt :-X

I too did a bit of speculating a while ago about the possible location of FC2, you can read about it here. (http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=1362.msg22072#msg22072)

Most likely, the setting is based on a general amalgam of West African countries, but I'd say we're both in the ballpark :)

And the cab driver? I've kept an eye out for him but never saw or heard him again in the game.

Placing him back in the script at the end of the game would have been an interesting twist, IMO.

Well... he probably used a certain line a few times too often:

"You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talking... you talking to me? Well I'm the only one here. Who the f@#k do you think you're talking to? Oh yeah? OK."

;D

I've often wondered where that convoy of covered troop carrying big trucks that our cabbie had to stop and let pass in the opening movie were stashed away. We know they were modeled for the opening sequences and in conjunction with D_B's mission creator would be perfect for those type of escort missions.

We've also probably all noticed the boats fleeing Pala in the opening movie (once we become familiar with the topography of the game or take our first look at the map) are on a river that doesn't go anywhere.  :o

I agree with D_B, a mission editor would be great for extending storyline but I'd like to add a private server plug in to that allows cooperative team play with a selected group against player created assault scenarios.

Ahhhh... But that's what I thought too, until a recent playthrough and I spotted the "Jeep" logo on his steering wheel. I reckon he's driving the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, which is the open topped Jeep you find fairly often in the game.

I can think of three spots off the top of my head:

North (Leboa-Sako Sector)
1. Southwest Area: Parked right outside the weapon shop.
2. North Area: Patrolling along the road southwest of the weapon shop.

South (Bowa-Seko Sector)
1. Southwest Area: Along the westernmost edge of the map. Next to the diamond case in the northwest (and a bot of the way south of the "15")

thanks for your reply, mir24 :) It is a jeep wrangler indeed, but I never saw one like that: it has got roll-over bars. All the Wranglers I found were not open respectively had got no such bars. Are you sure the ones you mentioned sport those?

Er, sorry, I didn't notice those particular details. But then again, as much as I love the Wrangler Unlimited, I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to vehicle add-ons like these...  :-[

The cab and driver idea has given me one of my own. What if instead of the cabbie disappearing after the opening sequence, he would randomly drive around on the map? Right now, if you're out walking on the road somewhere, and you see headlights or hear a vehicle, you automatically get ready to fight or dive for cover, but what if there was a chance it might be a friendly??

It would be cool if you could opt to get in the cab, then you map would pop up and you could click on a location, and be driven there in real time. More fun than the bus "ride" eh? ;)

reminds me of JC2. You just call in a chopper and he offers a ride (fast travel, like those bus stops in FC2, only that you don't lose 4 hours -- it is an instant transfer). So, with your idea, I'd like to call the cab and have him drive me to places, maybe even in real (game) time  :)

I like that idea - the cabbie driving in real time through the countryside while you blast away at the chasing ATPs.  I recall hopping into the back of a big truck while the convoy was passing, and then riding through guard posts blasting away at the mercs.  That added an entirely new dimension to the game - having a driver that keeps your vehicle moving while you fire away - kind of like when you're stunt-riding on vehicles in JC2, but on a more simplistic level.

It would be nice if the cabbie stayed around, that would add to the underground missions some, you could hail him to take you somewhere, and he could charge you diamonds or for the favor of taking stuff to the underground houses, he would let you ride for free. Riding the cab could get you past guard posts without a fight if you wanted to save ammo, or the cabbie could get out his "special" cab that carries a little more firepower and he would drive you through while you manned the guns.

So much potential.....

The only problem is that the cab driver is a neutral; he isn't a "good guy" or part of the underground, as far as we know.

Either that, or he just buys EVERYONE a COLD beer while he's at it... Amazing how far a little bit of kindness can go...  ;)

Dammit, I want an option to "Buy Everyone A Round" in my weapon selection...  ;D
