Title: FC3: Funny moments

Nice  :-X  One of my regular activities in FC2 was to use the silenced 6P9 to take out everyone in a GP without ever raising the alarm.  Now I get to do it and receive recognition for my efforts >:D

I just cleared an outpost on a small island to the west of Dennis's town, I saw a sniper and shot him with my sniper rifle. Then I shot 2 guys on a boat, missed them. Then a firefight happened between pirates and island inhabitants, and to my suprise I got a message:"Success" and 1500 XP for liberating the outpost without being detected.  :)

Like Art obserbed, one of the weirdest things about this game is that the pirates can't swim

Priceless!

I suspect that we will see lots of interesting interactions in FC3.  When I think of all the funny things we saw in FC2, which was a much less sophisticated game, I think we'll see reports of funny moments for a long time to come.

In fact, I'm going to split this topic into a new "Funny moments" topic.

It's a good idea to creating a thread dedicating to funny moments which I'm sure we'll have a lot to share.

I was driving on a road, then I noticed 2,3 guys were standing near a bear in a cage. I stepped out of the car aimed down the AK to shoot them but a tiger came out of nowhere attacked them, I shot the cage to liberate the bear. Both the tiger and the bear teamed up chasing and mauled the poor guys. I was standing there laughing but I didn't laugh too long because they came at me after finishing off the baddies, I immediately got in the car and drove away ;D

This is great; we're going to have so much to see and do while exploring the island!  I can't wait to get back into the game; almost weekend for me!

nice stories :)

I noticed some of the chargers (pirates with a flash symbol above their heads when looked at with the camera) have Molotovs and those who have tend to DRINK them when idle!  ??? This leads to a rather unpredictable moving pattern  Shoot them the moment they want to throw one and they'll catch alight torching the area they step upon

I watched two civilian technicals (Jeeps with the windscreen turned down onto the bonnet) that came bombing down the road from opposing directions and of course they clashed their cars. A proper road accident, both cars were wrecked and rendered useless so the surviving passengers got out and walked away  :-D :-X

Molotov chargers throw the burning stuff at predators even if that means that they'll burn down their own outpost

A bear popped up out of nowhere and I was facing him thinking about how to get out without fighting the bear when a pirate patrol Jeep closed in on us. They spotted the bear, the bear spotted them, and I looted the bodies and took the skin  :-D

Funny story, Art  :-X

I didn't come across any molotov guy yet. If I see one drinking from their molotovs through my SVD scope I'll make sure I'll shoot the bottle as he drinks to see what happens!  >:D

Yesterday I was quietly approaching a deer, while he (or she?  ???? ) was drinking water when a tiger appeared and attacked the deer... both rolled down into the water and drawned... I just had to swim and skin them under water!

Now my stats says "Tigers killed:1, Tigers skinned: 2"  8)

hahaha

I walked on a road when a car full of friendlies stopped so I took command of the vehicle and waited for them to hop back in which they did. I then raced down a road and couldn't stop in time to prevent us from careening over a cliff into a lagoon (not so deep). When I got out from under water, I could already see the bodies coming up, face down, and then they sank to the ground. Not a word, not a scream, it was all too fast for them.. not a trace of the accident to be seen.. it happened so quickly and completely silently.. I looted them and strolled away, whistling innocently.

 Great stories! There's gonna be some good ones for sure.

From the top of a radio tower, I watched with great amusement as a group of four pirates below me tried to fend off a pair of Komodo dragons. One of the guys was a Molotov-thrower who managed to set all his mates alight before becoming dragon food :-D

I know what you mean about the Molotov guys Art, the ones who drink their own weapons :-() I love the way they stagger around drunk. I didn't know you could get drunk on petrol, just poisoned :-()

funny stories :-D

After freeing an outpost, one of those pesky predator birds came walking in. One of the friendlies saw it and whipped out his assault rifle. When he was finished, I counted a couple of dead pigs and a few other friendlies who died along with the bird. I'm just glad I was standing somewhat behind the shooter..  :-()

At one of the outposts, the pirates ran aground in their Rhib.  Evidently you can push the boats back into the water, which I did.  Unbeknownst to me, there was a friendly behind the Rhib, so when I pushed it back into the water, he drowned.  I felt really bad for the poor schmuck.  :-()

Man, they don't tolerate anything. I was driving a technical and had a couple of passengers when I noticed another technical with passengers coming down the road at me at surprisingly high speed. Trying to avoid the unavoidable frontal collision,  I swerved but they hit me in the driver's door with a bang. I then saw those white detection meters popping up and my crew jumped out to join the other car's crew and they all turned hostile. I pretended that I was in a bit of a hurry just to get away from them when the shooting ensued..

You're lucky

I was once killed by these "friendlies".
I was crossing a road by foot then a jeep with 2 friendlies was running to me. I'd expected them to hit the brake so I didn't run when they were close to me. But boy was I wrong. They hit me hard and I was dead!

Reminds me of a scene I watched unfold in FC2.  Just north of the southeast bus stop on Bowa is a GP through which an assault patrol drives.  I was on the metal roof when they cane through and just ran over one of their chaps - funny as heck to hear the "ahhhrrrrggggg!"

Your experience was similar, only now you are on the other end of the assault truck  :-()

So far both the pirates and friendlies haven't run over any of their comradres yet. I'd love to see them run over their buddies just like the merces in FC2 and those screams "Arghhhhhhh" never get old  ;D

Another rather funny experience:

I was in jungle,  a pirate patrol jeep was coming towards me. I was ready to shoot them once they get out of their jeep. But they just ran in circle 3 times, then went down. I thought they ran away as they're scared of me  ;D but no, they came back. Then they stopped and this time they got out of the jeep.

I wish they'd practise what they preach. Just outside Dennis Town I strolled out after stocking up and four of them were stood out on the road. I walked toward them (seeing that none were wearing red) then they all go into sudden defense postures and start shooting past and through me at a pirate jeep coming up behind me. Damn fools almost killed me!

Actually, I have seen that happen once, while scoping out an outpost. A technical came roaring right through the place with a couple of pirates in it and they ran over one of those heavily armoured guys. There was a brief commotion among the others who ran around a little, then they went back to doing their respective things like nothing had happened.

Shortly after that a tiger wandered in and took out a few more of them. At the first meeting, a merc and the tiger just stood and looked at each other for a brief moment, then the merc yelled "F**k, a tiger!" before being pounced on. I ended up with only two ordinaries to deal with :-X

I love my recurve bow btw, I have that on me nearly all the time. Great for picking off solitary mercs at outposts - or anywhere for that matter - and even if the others find the body they won't raise the alarm or know where the arrow came from. It's especially effective if you fit the bow with the more advanced sight, and with practice you can take out baddies from a surprisingly long way off 8)

A funny that I've experienced a couple of times when clearing an outpost.  Quite often there is a caged tiger or leopard with a lock you can shoot to release the cat.  Sometimes during the fire fight I start with the pirates, they accidentally shoot the lock which releases the animal, which promptly sweeps through the camp.

I'm having similar luck with the M700 sniper with high power optics and suppressor - I love that weapon for softening up an area, and in many instances with a bit of patience, I can clear most if not all of the camp.

 :-D

There's a funny thing that happens on Hoyt's island. At first I thought it was some sort of a game quirk, but I've seen it three times now, so it's deliberate. What it is is this:

The first time, I was near the top of a ridge and I heard a "Whoa!" from the other side. When I went and looked over, there was a road below me and three of Hoyt's soldiers were standing around this vehicle that was upside down and ablaze. I thought they accidentally driven off a cliff or something, and while I watched, the car exploded, taking them all out.

I thought it was some hilarious example of artificial stupidity, but I've seen it three times now, so what I think is happening is that these are booby traps put in place by Ratyak guys. It only started happening after I freed the first outpost on the island and it happens in relatively close proximity to these.

Still hilarious :-()

I was using the camera to scope out an outpost when a bird flew through the field of view and got tagged. For the rest of the mission there was a bright red paw print flying around in the sky (the symbol for a herbivore/harmless animal) :-D

great reads  :-X

I came from a mission that took away my loadout and I was about to retrieve it which meant I had to search an open camp which, of course, was guarded and almost no way to get to anyone without being detected by someone else.. Without weapons, I faced three or four chargers, and a heavy. Nearby were two dogs, too. I avoided detection and took out a charger with a takedown from behind. Not wanting anyone to see the body right away, I had to hurry and kill the second charger from behind, another takedown. OK. Now the third charger was sitting on a chair and behind the chair was a little boulder, perhaps a metre away and a metre high. I climbed it and jumped up and at the time towards the sitting guy -- it turned out to be a takedown from above (LOL  ). I then found a flare gun and fired it at the hut where the heavy and another guy were loitering. Some yelling and swearing and only the heavy remained, just two metres away from me but with his back turned on me (he was staring at the burning hut). Not knowing what else to do, I fired the flare gun at his back hoping it might register.. and it did! I burned the poor sod and got 80XP once his screaming died away.  :-D Now the dogs became acutely aware of my presence (lucky timing) and I slashed them while walking backwards. I was quite relieved when it was over and I found my weapons in the last remaining hut. Why is it always the last place you check?

Good stories and a fine dust-up there Art.

While I was typing this, my lady just took a pirate out twenty metres up the beach with a rapid beach assault in a Rhib  He squished most messily...

Further to the crazy driving habits of the pirates and friendlies alike - watch out for the latter, I've been run over twice today by their careless speeding  ::)

Funny stuff, you guys

The AI guys do occasionally run over their mates, FC2 style :-() I've seen it twice now. Nice to know some things never change!

I was doing an outpost and was getting ready to take out a sniper in a tower with an arrow when I saw two wild dogs at the base of the tower. They actually crept all the way up the stairs (which wound all the way around the tower as they went up) and took the sniper out from behind. All he said was "Ungh" as he went down. None of the other mercs even noticed.

I already wrote about my own "bear meets mine" incident some time ago, I had the mine and C4 attached to a Jeep and a bear set the whole package off which was a little too much for me to shrug away -- I died, too. Happened to me with a wingsuit on.. climbed a sniper tower after the mission was almost finished (I wanted to collect all the stuff and ammo and loot the dead guys before talking to Sam) when I decided to jump down and whip out my wingsuit. The moment I hit the key, my face hit a fence.. auto-reloading mission... gladly it only reloaded the debriefing bit where I had to go to talk to Sam rather than the entire mission, but all the stuff and loot and bodies were gone.

I was hiding about 50 metres away from a group of about five mercs and wondered how I could get them all. Too far for hand grenades, no launcher equipped, hold it -- hand grenades? plus arrows = explosive arrows.. and I had my bow equipped  >:D I aimed for the guy in the centre who was in front of someone else, so with a bit of luck, even if I missed the first I might hit the one behind.. aim.. fire.. BOOM! STRIKE!! Multikill, 300XP, everyone wiped out with one shot

I got a free bear skin and boar skin today - all I had to do was watch and wait. The bear chased the boar and caught up with it, and during the subsequent mauling they both slid down a slope into a pond and drowned. All I had to do was wade in and skin them :-X

None of the land animals seem to be able to swim, they all die if they get too far into the water ????

I have noticed that the crocs always seem to be hiding under patches of lilies, so whenever you see a small field of lilies at the edge of a stream or river, look closely - there might be a crocodile lurking there. You don't have to be in the water for them to get you, they'll lunge out at you if you're on land and you get too close.

Oh man, fragger.. I just had all of it: My 2nd playthrough.. need skins  :-()

South of Amanaki town is a river that goes E-W and meets one that goes N-S. A bit to the South is another river that too goes E-W and meets the N-S one. On that bit of land between those three river parts is a hunting ground for tapirs, tigers, goats and crocs as I only learned just now..

The following took place close to the water on a somewhat mellow slope and a few knolls.

I hunted a tapir and shot it with my silenced MS16 (my first money went into that, first and forever favourite weapon of choice). I skinned it at the riverbank a few feet away from water line when I got attacked by a crocodile which I managed to kill. Then I heard a tiger coming at me but fortunately he was chasing a goat and I observed how they ran a bit uphill and clashed.. and.. both.. dropped dead  ???. Erm, nice, free tiger and goat skin

While skinning them I was thinking about you and how I needed to post that, I heard another tiger roar from behind the hill and then saw him chasing behind something that was squealing. The tapir was running away from the tiger into the water.. followed by the tiger.. both drowned. Whoa, another tiger and a tapir for free  :-D Aware of the presence of crocodiles I carefully checked the water nearby, did a test dive to see if anyone was around and quickly skinned the tiger under water. Because they were almost on top of each other, I took the tapir skin, too, but was quite in a hurry to get back on dry land away from the.. what the flipping heck was that?

In the water, under water more precisely, I saw three more dead tapirs.. croc food or hunter bait?  ??? I decided not to go for those three tapirs (didn't need any any more) but instead I much rather wanted to leg it which I did, let those freaking crocs play with someone else  :-()

I was approaching an outpost and I saw a cage with two dogs in it. Since I had just successfuly  cleared another outpost, unnoticed, with the help of a bear it looked like a no brainer... free the dogs and pick the remaining pirates with a silenced gun!

As I shot the cage the two dogs came charging out of the camp towards ME and attacked me  ???

No pirate realised what was happening

I had a similar experience yesterday. I saw a komodo dragon at an outpost at the West side on South island. I shot the cage to free it hoping it'd help me but no, it completely ignored the baddies and ran to me  :-()

Anyone has seen a caged animal got out of the cage by himself ?

I have seen at least once at the outpost I mentioned above. I came back the this outpost, this time I learned from my mistake last time: I was shooting the cagse when I was too close to it, hence it attacked me instead of the mercs. Now I stayed at an elevated point to scout the outpost, and to my surprise, I saw the komodo gradon was chasing the mercs around  :-()

I got a free bear skin and boar skin today - all I had to do was watch and wait. The bear chased the boar and caught up with it, and during the subsequent mauling they both slid down a slope into a pond and drowned. All I had to do was wade in and skin them :-X

That's funny  :-D I've enver seen 2 predators fighting each other.

Too far for hand grenades, no launcher equipped, hold it -- hand grenades? plus arrows = explosive arrows.. and I had my bow equipped  >:D I aimed for the guy in the centre who was in front of someone else, so with a bit of luck, even if I missed the first I might hit the one behind.. aim.. fire.. I've experienced the animals get out of the cage, but was unsure how they did it.  One time however I was in a fire fight with the occupants of the outpost when one of the fools accidentally shot the cage, which released the tiger.

However, the tiger was entirely unappreciative of the one who had released him.

I've not yet seen an animal free itself. The only time I saw something like that (cage empty, predators mauling everyone in the outpost) was probably caused by a random wild predator which got too close to one of the guards who most certainly shot the cage by accident. Just like PZ said, then :)

Once the south island is unlocked and you get the wingsuit and the privateer uniform there is much fun to be had. On the south island you can pick your fights because you "blend in" with the bad guys, and the north island becomes more fun with the wingsuit on hand (or should I say, on back).

I found a trick on the south island. If you plant some C4 and blow up some unsuspecting privateers from a distance, any others that may be around or come to investigate won't suspect you of doing it, unless they actually see you operate the remote. I used some to blast open one of those sealed crypt doors which had four troops hanging around it. The blast took out a couple of them (I set it off from well out of sight) and when I came back the two survivors didn't give me a second look >:D

I was claiming a relic on a small island in the north when I heard a boat approach.  The camera revealed that they were friendlies, so as they approached the beach and hopped out, I went to greet them.  At that moment a couple of pirates came toward us so I entered the mounted gun and started firing at them - evidently one of the friendlies got into the drivers seat, because out into the ocean we went - he was a good pilot because he kept me in a good firing position.

So far I've tended to avoid the vehicles (other than the gliders which handle superbly) because they are just too squirrelly.  ::)  Disappointingly the ones I've encountered handle like Mario Karts on an ice track.

That aside I was rushing through a series of areas where the wild life had frustratingly killed me several times sporting a freshly liberated standard patrol jump buggy to reach an unlocked tower (sorry I've not figured out the names of the various vehicles yet but it was red ).  As I crested the flat at the top of a rise I quickly noted that I was flying straight into a freshly ignited firefight.  There were two truck loads of the locals on the left shoulder and two patrol buggies exactly like the one I was in opposing them on the right.  The celebrants were just starting to warm things up by randomly firing bullets and curses at each other from behind their vehicles.

Apparently they didn't see me coming.  >:D

With no time to think it over I plunged straight in swerving off road to the right of the baddies and whipped up a batch of cheese spread smearing all but one of them between their jeeps and mine.  While still moving at a diminished but never the less good clip I hit the "E" Key for Eject and then instantly the ground.

Rolling unhurt to my feet, automatic weapon in hands and facing the sole survivor of the goon squad, I hosed the filth out of him before he had a chance to blink twice.  To my surprise my intercession was met with jubilant hoots and hollers from the locals and I half thought they were going to dig a pit and burn me a pig.  I didn't catch their exact praise but I think one line was:

"Bruh, that was awesome!"

And another:

"You come from a good family!"

I'm sure that last comment was more reflective of my recent adoption into their clan than any connection to my departed elder sibling but either way it left me chuckling as I hopped back into my rig and tore off to towards that previously mentioned stubbornly locked radio tower.

Also, so you can have a laugh on me.  :-[

I hadn't learned yet that by hanging around and gloating after helping locals they often cough up a reward.  I'm still wondering if by rushing off I missed some serious "cha-ching".  :-\\

I was on the southern half somewhere on a slope, above an outpost. Started to snipe the freaks but I missed one and they spotted me. I was in bad conditions and there were dogs too, so I tried to lay low on the flank of the hill. The remaining pirates climbed into an AY and tried to drive towards me. Unfortunately for them the slope was a bit too steep.  :) The truck didn't come farther. Now these guys showed some thinking; they all went out, changed seats and tried again ^-^
Since that didn't w@&k either, they went out again, and one guy left the truck and went on foot towards a buddy to the side. The two remaining guys went back in and tried again ;D They still remained in the same position, so they went out again, one of them went after his recently gone friend and the last guy tried to finally get the damn vehivle to climb the slope :-() He did not manage. I decided to relief him from his frustration and helped him elevate at least his soul >:D

nice story, mandru :)

And no, I don't think you'd call a reward between $50 and $200 a "serious cha-ching" and sometimes they don't reward you at all. I think the warriors never do, but those lonely local pedestrians do if they were in danger and you helped them.

Dang, I find that the vehicles in the PC version w@&k orders of magnitude better than they do in the console version.  The Stryus on the console feels like you're on an ice rink, with controls that are so sluggish in response that it is almost better walking.  However, on the PC version, even the Stryus handles well in comparison.  I'd have to say that for me, the PC version, like in FC2, is far superior to the version they create for the console.

One funny moment in the game, minutes ago:

I watched a road accident between two merc patrols, they all got out. I threw a pack of C4 amidst them thinking, "catch!" and flicked the switch on my remote. The 240XP worth multikill (6x40? were 6 peeps) wasn't exactly to the liking of another two-man Jeep patrol who shouted, "what.. the.. hell!" while I found cover behind my car and they behind theirs. From behind cover I killed one of them while the other guy shouted, "gren.." but he got interrupted quite rudely by my bullet that passed through his brains. I thought, "did you want to throw a grenade? Let's take a look if you dropped it, then" and that moment I saw a white flash and sparks and heard some dampened bang coming from where he had dropped dead behind his car. Made me chuckle  :-D

I was scouting an outpost on the northern part of the northern island (  ???? ), the one where you get the Hunter mission to kill a yellow necked cassowary. I approached the outpost by sea and had to go up the trail to get there. I killed a couple pirates patrolling the trail and saw one pirate guarding the north entrance to the post when I heard him screaming and the sound of dogs attacking and ripping flesh and the pirate tag dissapeared... I could see his outline disappearing too.

I went around the fence and checked the south entrance... clear... so I walked in to try to stab my way to the alarm and get my 1550XP when I saw one guard dog coming back from the north gate. I shot it with my Shredder before it could see me and make me lose my XP. Another dog came from the same direction... another silent kill... then another one, another one and another one... Outpost liberated!!!

AN outpost guarded almost exclusively by dogs... and they attacked the single pirate there and came back in so I could pick them one by one and clear the area!!!  8)

It'd very hilarious if one of their own pitbulls attack them but I think the one JRD said was a rabid dog or dingo.

Talking about pitbulls, I remembered whenI was doing an outpost in the North island, 3 dog spotted me and I had to shoot all of them, the pirates triggered alarm and the reinforments came to aid ther comrades along with 5 pitbulls, which I managed to kill all. So I had to shoot 8 dogs in that outpost.

Using an ATV, I raced along one of the hundreds of nameless roads on north island, and saw a machine gun truck heading my way.  Because I was so exposed, I did not want to jump off and take a chance that  the truck would run me over so I deliberately literally ran right into the front end.  My ATV must have an amazing amount of mass because that poor truck sailed through the air and fell into a creek.  The funny part... after dispatching all the pirates, I was able to drive that thing back up onto the road.

I've managed to get a few good drifts going, except once when I drifted off a precipice ???

So I was traipsing through the bush and came upon two vehicles on the road below me at the base of a small cliff with a bunch of pirates hanging around them. Feeling like a skirmish I opened up on them with my Bushman and took a couple down before they realised where the fire was coming from, saw me and returned fire. There was another road up above me somewhere and I soon heard the sound of another vehicle approaching from up there, drawn towards the ruckus. Evidently the driver of this car lost it on a curve or something because while I was watching the pirates below, the newcomers arrived by sailing almost straight down from out of the upper frame and nose diving into the road right between the two parked cars, spilling pirates out onto the roadway. The car caught fire and almost immediately exploded, causing the other two vehicles to do the same. Suddenly I had nobody left to fight with...

Glad to see there's still plenty of artificial stupidity on display with this game :-D

I was clearing an outpost (Hubris Farms I believe) that had cassowaries stalking around the outskirts.  The longer it took for me to set up up for the final push to seize the location it was as if the birds were being drawn in making the task of keeping an eye on the movements of the mercs and the encroaching pests a bothersome chore.

Out of all that I noticed that the ever present screech of the cassowaries coming closer and closer was not an actual bird call but is a highly filtered and distorted human voice repeating the line "I drink blood".

Check it out.  :-X

I just did that outpost, and did not notice that line, nor the cassowaries so I must have missed out.  However, this is the nature of open world games!  ^-^

I'm going to use the mod to reset all the outposts after I've completed the bulk of them, and will let you guys know the outcome.

Nice, I'll be interested to hear how that goes :-X

I had to replace my PC's power supply today (I'd been suspecting that it was on the way out, and indeed this morning it expired), so in case the mod screws things up I'd rather deal with just one setback per week :-\\

@mandru, I'll have to remember to listen to the cassowaries next time I'm near them. I love how they somersault when plugged during an oncoming charge :-()

Resetting the outposts is a real game changer for me.  now I can liberate all the outposts I want during the main game refining my techniques, comforted with the knowledge that I can re-do the outposts by using this simple change.  The side benefit is that liberating the outposts opens other side missions.  Another benefit for me is that because this modification involves a simple dll change, I can still use my weapons mod, and should have no ill effect.

On the console however, it is an entirely different story.  I would save outposts like a fine bottle of wine to be savored on another day.

On a side note, I did a race challenge not long ago in which you needed to use a jet ski.  However, that boat is really squirrely for me so I drove a fast rubber boat to the start of the challenge, interacted with the guy, and then used my boat instead of his.  Worked splendidly!

Funny moment: when you realise that it would be really cool to pass two Jeep crews of pirates slightly above their heads in a wingsuit and almost rip a bandana off someone's face passing by.

Not so funny moment: when you realise your wingsuit is not bulletproof while you're getting shot down and die in mid-air above said two Jeep crews of pirates.

Excellent find PZ  :-X I'll have to try that. I did notice that when doing the hunter challenges, if you have an upgraded weapon of the type needed, it'll let you keep that rather than using the basic one provided - probably not news though  :)

I do think the cassowaries call was created with a subliminal message to make them more intimidating.  I can't prove what it is that's being said or that it's an engineered human voice but I'm sticking with my impression.

Yes, it definitely has that sitcom 'Oh My God!' screech. I also like some of the other interpretations too.

The snakes are the ones I find hard to judge - they are so infrequent and sound like something far bigger - the sound is too deep, like a croc hissing - so I assume croc or Komodo and adjust my approach for that. On the 'Space Alien' side mission, I was in the stream and was looking for a hidden croc so didn't see the little sod beside the container.

Until then I hadn't been bitten by one...I was wary for them after that and lobbed a grenade up onto the rock ledge by the waterfall when I next heard the hiss  :)

I've noticed on occasion on the south island that you can come across a line of three pirates facing a line of three privateers as though making some kind of deal (probably drugs). If you get close to them the detection indicator will appear, and if they get a solid visual all six of them will open up on you. The location seems to be a random pick among a number of predetermined spots - I've come across it twice in one spot, but have seen it once in a couple of others and I haven't seen it at all on the north island, no doubt because there are no privateers there.

Also, if you approach the gorge where the mission takes place to blow up the truck and get the roll off the pirate captain, but approach from the west (near the bridge) and before that mission comes up (or even when it does - see below), there always seems to be a group of three redshirts hanging around near the bridge. Getting close will result in detection there too.

My first time through when that mission was active I just happened to approach the gorge from that direction and went right through it from west to east (after running into the aforementioned pirates near the bridge), reaching the start point after I'd already gone all the way through. Almost nobody was in the gorge when I first went through until the mission started and I went back in - lo and behold, the bad guys were suddenly in residence! :-D

In a recent game session I had an amusing graphics rendering glitch.

I was exiting a water cave accessed through a tiny cove with a bridge over it under one of the cliffs towards the Eastern end of the North coastline on the North island when it occurred.  As I swam out of the cave the underwater visual stopped making it appear that I was on dry ground.  The effect of the glitch covered the small inlet leading to the cave as well as about 40 meters out into the ocean and a width of about 60 meters up and down the coast line.

I realized what it was that I was seeing when my character started making the drowning noises.  I'd stopped to look around thinking "This is weird" totally occupied by the beehive of activity of hundreds and hundreds of small brightly colored tropical reef fish clearly visible in all directions.  Hauling myself out of the water the effect continued and I was amazed at how much graphics information was actually being rendered between the detailed nooks and crannies of the ocean bottom and all those different teaming schools of little fish.  I must have stood there 10 minutes just enjoying the view.

For the most part when I stand on the shore or I'm in a boat I only notice the play of light reflecting off the top of the water with a a vague impression of "It's deep there, It's shallow there" or "Watch out. Rock!" and get an occasional glimpse of the busy small fish (man, I still wish a manta would have soared through  :-\\  ) but this glitch showed me how much information is really being presented and then muted making it clear only if someone wishes to drill down through the obvious and examine it.

It might add a whole new dimension to the game if a mod showed up with a toggle repressing the rendering of water allowing all that goes on below to show.

That must have been wonderful Mandru!
I once had a bit of the same experience in one of the main story mission, and now that I think of it, I think it only happened once, not on my second playthrough. But I might be mistaken there. Anyway, I think it was during the trip where you see that you have to follow the "man in white" in order to find the dagger for Citra. I refused to follow him into Bad Town and started wandering around the weird place surrounded by high cliffs; guess what I saw behind some rocks??

[smg id=5132]

I did not have any problems breathing and the fishes were gone once I woke up from the trip, but it must have been a bit like this, wasn't it?

It was bright daylight and on the seabed Binn (as in Art's screen shot) but there were tons of fish all around in bright neon colors.  I can only compare it to something one would experience after imbibing in some of the Doc's best mushrooms.  ;)

Though now that you mention it I was free roaming for relics in pretty much the same quarter of the island between segments related to the man in the white shirt.

By the way, very cool screen shots of the glitches both of you.  :-X

Binn's wasn't a glitch, it was the result of a 'trip' after drinking what Cittra gave Jason (probably made from the Doc's mushrooms, you're right  :))

Good pics of the mantas Art.  :)  But there's something about actually being there in the water as one glides past that I don't think can be captured in a screenie.

Almost every time I'm boating around out on the ocean I see the mantas rolling and playing. Very often I spot them in groups.  I think the animation for them is really good and I enjoy having them in the water around me.

I once had a manta come up and give the boat a good solid bump while I was trying to line up a shot to take out a pirate onshore giving me quite a start.

Doing more local co-op last night, I scattered some C4 on the road for the ambush the convoy mission. Having done this a few times, I found it an effective way of taking out the first two jeeps - mind you, the AI are impressive enough to chang their tactics  :-X

The funny thing was when doing this for the fifth time, after blowing up the first, I caught the second jeep perfectly as it tried to speed through the ambush - trouble was it flew up through the air and killed me in a swipe flyby  ^-^ it was amusing...

Undetected I'd disabled both of the two alarms with long range silenced sniper shots as well as mopped up all the pirates I could visually tag at an outpost but the flag remained unchanged.  ????   The only thing I could think of was that there must be a pirate still hidden from view.

I silently approached only to be pounced by a camp dog that I was unaware of lying in wait for me.  I easily dispatched the guard dog with my katana which unexpectedly initiated the flag change cut scene of an outpost successfully seized.  Because the dog had spotted me it cost me the 1500 XP takeover bonus for the outpost.  :D

It happened to me as well at The Old Mines. The last remaining guard dog spotted me and I lost my 1500XP... I reloaded and killed all pirates... and dogs... and got my XP   8).

Just saw a hilarious wtf moment while driving a jeep - my lady decided to jump out at speed, expecting a roll and tumble but found herself stood, facing backwards on the bonnet as it coasted to a stop...

It was a pure Goofy moment and so I couldn't help but imagine an image of Goofy sat there on the bonnet, ears flapping around his face with that helpless 'Huuh?' expression on his face, just clutching a heavy assault rifle...we couldn't stop laughing for ten minutes.

She also encountered and fought an invisible Buck, also no voice - just a floating book and key, then knife - that was weird.

Buck does some weird stuff (and I don't just mean with young guys...)

The first time through the game I reached the part where you meet up with Buck at the deep crater lake. When you first approach him he's sitting on a slab of rock, leaning back on his arms. At least, that's how he's supposed to be. When I first encountered him there, this was what I found:

[smg id=5250 width=600]

He wouldn't move, I couldn't interact with him and I couldn't shoot him, he just literally hung there with a blissful expression on his face like he was in the middle of a good trip. I had to get right out of the area and then come back before he unfroze and came back to earth :-()

I knew that scene with Citra was going to be in the game long before I received it.  So I set out to diffuse any misunderstanding that might arise.  I laid some easily controlled back burns to prevent a run away wildfire.

After viewing pre-release previews while she was sitting at our extra long shared computer desk next to me I complained aloud about the direction that the game developers were taking to hype up excitement for the game using unnecessary crudity and vulgar language in the game when all that was needed was good storyline and solid game play and then I took the time to discuss what I was hoping for in the game.

Then a few nights ago one of the IGN walkthrough videos had a 17+ warning disclaimer at the start of it that amused me.  I played the disclaimer for her showing the list of things that might be included but not limited to content shown in the clip.  There was excessive graphic violence, strong language, nudity and among a couple other hot spot topics the one thing that had initially cracked me up in IGN's verbal list of potential naughtiness "...And worst of all Possible Spoilers."

By talking things out ahead I've been able to maintain her perception that the game is a benign and boyish if overly gruesome past time.

Spoiler

Ahem... Uh ...  Disclaimer  :-\\ :

All that said I've also been very careful to play those parts of the game I'd prefer to not rub in her face for time periods where she is not present.  No matter how well I have planned to prevent marital conflict I've learned long ago to never over estimate my ability to anticipate, direct or prevent the moods and whims of any female.  >:D

Slightly amusing moment, mostly a nice outpost clearing. I was approaching one on the south of the north island, maybe Northview Gas? Seems right looking at the map, I approached from the ocean via an attack boat, up the hill. Anyway, I usually like to get the high ground and scout the place and maybe snipe as many guards as possible, then move in if needed. This outpost doesn't have much or any high ground around it, so that plan was out.

I snuck up to the fence and listened a bit, trying to get a lay of the land so to speak. Then I heard the growls of a large cat, behind me, it seemed. Either a leopard or a tiger, I wasn't going to find out, but it seemed to be getting closer and there seemed to be more than one. I quickly snuck around the fence to the side, and had to duck back as a road patrol went by. I waited near some of those big concrete blocks and heard the pirates shout about the big cat coming towards them. Awesome, I had been hoping I could lure the cat into the camp and be saved some w@&k getting rid of those guys. Soon the gunfire started, then an explosion and flames leapt up from the other side of the camp. As this excitement was going on, I snuck in the main gate, hoofed it to the alarm control box and switched it off, then scurried back to my hideout near the gate.

Seems the pirates won, as they went back to their mindless wandering and I didn't hear the growling of the big cat any more. I took a quick peek around the gate and saw it was safe to sneak inside and I hid under one of the raised buildings as three pirates sauntered by. I crept up on the last in line and knifed him, then the other two without them knowing what hit them. One last pirate was the sniper up on his perch, but he conveniently walked down the stairs as I lay in wait around the corner. One quick knife thrust and the outpost was clear.

Would have been a lot more w@&k if it wasn't for that tiger or leopard, whatever it was, thank you. I looked around but couldn't find a body to skin, so it must have faded away in the meantime. Too bad, those skins are worth decent money.

that was a very entertaining read, I could visualise it as if I had been there  :) :-X I think I even know which outpost you were describing.

One part reminded me: buildings on stilts. I once was inside a camp with houses on stilts and on the other side were some pirates -- I could see their legs. I thought I'd give it a shot, literally, and popped one guy's knee cap. It was fun as they went ballistic on the other side without seeing me while I kept shooting at their legs :-D Then I had to rush through a hole in the corrugated iron fence as they were about to round the corner and spot me. Behind the fence I could see the outline of a pirate as he was tagged and I thought hell, this should w@&k, and aimed for the silhouette of his head in order to perform a headshot through the thin iron.. and indeed, the silhouette faded into thin air not without gaining me another +25XP or so for a headshot.  :-() :-X

I took on a supply drop race from the radio tower north of the Hubert Shore Power outpost. It's one of the quad bike ones and is pretty much steeply downhill all the way. I was doing OK until I hit a rock just before the second last blue smoke marker and the whole rig barrel-rolled and spat me off. But the quad kept sliding downhill, upside-down, with me running after it, and it slid right over the next smoke marker which apparently counted because that marker went out and the next one beckoned. I caught up with the bike as it righted itself soon after and I was able to get back on board. One blue marker left and then the red, and I still had fifteen seconds to spare. I gunned it through the last blue smoke marker, then, with noteworthy precision, piloted the bike straight into a tree trunk. Hurriedly backing up and squinting through the black smoke pouring out of the motor, I wrestled it around, over-corrected, hit another tree, wrestled some more, got it sorted and finally made it to the red smoke - with 2 seconds to spare.

The Rakyat guy only just managed to utter a comment about how he wished all their drivers were as fast as me before the bear jumped on him. Oh crap... I got the Bull out and started pumping rounds into the bear - all two of them. Guess who hadn't reloaded the gun since the last time he'd used it! This resulted in a frantic game of ring-around-the-rosy (the rosy being a small wooden shack) with a cranky bear on my case and me desperately trying to stuff more rounds into the shottie. I got a few in before I ran into the bear's butt after sprinting around a corner of the shack (he hadn't chased me all the way around after all), and fortunately those proved enough - Smokey went down with the last shell.

I reckoned I earned those points :-()

Since the next mission was the one to find the "man in white" in Badtown, I thought I'd drive and then hike up to the very high ridge ENE of the tower I'd started the supply race from, where there's a kind of radio shack or something with a hang glider next to it, and fly to the town. This glider is located just below the highest peak on the north island and I thought it would give me more than enough flying time to reach Badtown. I was right - I cruised over the town from what appeared to be an altitude of a couple of hundred metres. Trouble was, I was way too high. As I passed over the town, my alter-ego piped up and started going on about how it was the town from his dream, etc. This locked me into the mission and as I flew a little further on I got the warning message about leaving the mission area. Damn... I was still miles up, and of course no wingsuit/parachute at this point in the game. Which meant a lot of tiresome maneuvering and trying to lose altitude within a pretty small radius - I would only have to fly a little beyond the town in any direction to make the warning message appear. So I had a brilliant idea - I'll fly over one of the surrounding rivers, let go of the glider and drop into the water. So that's what I did.

Missed it by that much...

The first one I thought you were going to say the Rakyat guy had just enough time to say "..." before the buggy blew up  :) or that the bear might get caught out that way.

I was walking across a small wooden bridge that span across a small river and was quite close to the ground when a pirate came along in a car, saw me, went ballistic, went in directions I couldn't understand and finally ended up below me under the bridge. Since it wasn't steep at all, he survived, the river was shallow, too, so he didn't drown, either. I tried to spot him so I went close to the ledge and tried to tease him by jumping around above his head. Until I found myself jumping down at him with an unexpected takedown from above.  ???

***

The outpost I wanted to liberate not only had a caged bear of their own but always another wild bear roaming about nearby and I knew that from prior "funny" situations which involved inhaling said bear's breath. So, apart from tagging enemies in that outpost, I waited until I had that bear tagged, too, before proceeding. I found a sniper position on a slab of rock that provided shelter but faced a rather steep cliff to its rear side. In order to use it as a hideout, I had to stay close to that edge which kind of prevented any safe escape but hey.. better than the other options (no high grounds and forest everywhere). I sniped the first guys and of course their mates went on seek-and-destroy mode, running towards me.

Between me and them I had that unobtrusive and unsuspicious bear.. I threw a rock between pirates and bear. The pirates and the bear immediately went to investigate.. and found one another. A moment of silence, then waves of yelling, shouting and roaring descended upon me and the attackers' silhouettes vanished one by one.. Outpost liberated. With the caged bear still sitting innocently in there. Of course I had to free him, which resulted in another wave of yelling, shouting and roaring. Now the outpost was definitely cleared.  :-D

Something odd happened to me today. I'm fairly sure it was intentionally designed like this by the game. I decided to get to the communications centre via hang-glider, wingsuit and lastly parachute and that's when it happened.

Due to starting so high up, I had plenty of chance to observe the layout from the air, so decided to land on the rock butte where the big dish was, thinking to save myself some time and have an immediate advantage over the troops all facing outwards below me.

As I came in, Sam called me frantically warning to approach from the ground and I began to rise up, as if caught on a strong thermal...and I mean a volcano vent thermal. I think I rose a hundred metres in five seconds. So neither Sam or the game wanted me taking the simple route.

By way of apology, the game did sent two panthers in to take out most of the first tier guards for me whilst I was tagging them - I only had to shoot a few snipers and one poor fella blithely minding his own business off to the side. I did find my second merc-in-a-rock there too - he was inside one of the artillery gun emplacements, about a metre under the surface...

The mission overall was a bit of fun though, seeming more like a BF3 MP blow up objectives match with me defending the detonator against all comers.

Good one Jim! I tried to enter the bunker from above since I managed to get on top of it pre-mission-scripted, but nothing. The damn game is so linear to where it comes to main missions, there was no way of even entering the bunker from what looked like a simple opening with a ladder :-\\

Funny that the game gave you a sort of thermic upwards experience.... I got a down-pressed experience once I tried to be cleaver and use a hang glider to approach a mission area ::)

Had one of those free outpost clearing moments. I was approaching, I guess it's called AM12? from the old bunker on the coast so I swung around east a bit so I wasn't coming from below. Heard some dragons in the weeds, so I went even further east and got up on a big rock when I heard the shouts and gunfire and roaring of the dragons. I just got out my camera to see what was what when I got the all clear message and the blue flag went up. Nice. Didn't even fire a shot. Forget now if I got the 1500 XP or not, but I think you would right? I wasn't seen, heck, I wasn't even really close yet.

yes D_B, I think as long as you have tagged one of the outpost's guys, you'll get the XP and indeed 1,500XP if your detection meter (the white thing that pops up) didn't fill up completely (it  would then have started to flash briefly if you had been detected). So.. nice one  :-D :-X

What a coincidence, the same thing happened to me last night at the very same outpost, AM12. I wasn't even trying to liberate it, I was trying to sneak around it. I heard someone yelling out a warning about a Komodo Dragon followed by a great deal of shooting and general commotion, then I got the cinematic and the blue flag going up. I didn't even see anybody or do any scouting :-()

I encountered an untimely Philadelphia Experiment moment in the mission where you snap the photo of the conspirators on the bridge at the gorge.  I'd made it to the point of winning my way nto the bridge and grabbing the list but the guy had sunk almost completely into the bridge surface.  I couldn't loot him.  :D

Fortunately I had the option of a restart from the last check point which was enough to shake things loose and didn't have to start the whole mission over.

I've had that happen too, only my guy ended up hanging by one arm from under the bridge with no way of reaching him. Reload time...

I had a bit of a funny moment outside the game last night. I'd been watching Babylon 5 before FC3 came along and took my time away from it, so last night I got back into the show, and one of the first things that struck me was how much Londo sounded like the pirates in FC3 :-D I almost expected him to say something like "It burns like hell when I piss! Should have used a rubber..."

I did a jet ski jaunt over several jumps, the longest one being into the gorge where the mine is found on both sides.  The mine tunnels lead eventually to the bridge in the mission.  I was pleasantly walking through the tunnels, reminiscing about good old times when some cheeky guys started shooting at me!  Ruined my whole vacation.

During one of the Rakyat Trials, I got molotoved to death - which can happen. When I restarted though, I was still on fire and so had to waste precious seconds flapping the flames out...by which time pirate number one had noticed, turned around and said something intelligent.

Another outpost that I had trouble with the first time around (e.g. I died) I restarted and looked a little closer at the outpost before starting to shoot at people. This one had a couple of those more armored guys who you can only headshot from behind because they have that face shield on. Anyway, second try I noticed that they had a tiger in a cage. Nice. Let him loose and while he was clearing the place I took a couple shots at some of the more exposed guys. Liberated the outpost and went in to sell some stuff. Walked out all cocky and immediately got attacked by a bear. I managed to mash the right key to escape, and as I was healing, he attacked again, and as I frantically tried to switch to a gun to shoot him, I died.

Not quite so bad as drowning in an underwater cave while searching for one of those totems, though. yeah, I did that too.

So the warrior difficulty is going okay, or at least it was until I went for the white bellied tapir - but more about that in a moment.

Camps were tougher, mostly due to my self-imposed refusal to use the tagging option. I did get one camp undetected, but none since. I know, my choice.

The wildlife though, now that's another story. I was approaching the camp just north of the Tapir territory for that hunter quest and I saw Cassowaries, wild dogs, buffalo and tigers all over the place...

I manged to get around to the camp and take it, but not without tackling two tigers first. Then came the White bellied Tapir quest. Got the Tapir with my bow, nabbed a few more as I needed four hides for crafting (and for some reason the game decided that it would make dead bodies disappear if I wasn't quick enough in getting there) so I was there for a while - then ran into another tiger, crossed the river, ran into yet another up by the road.

By this point I was getting a bit peed off with it all and just wanted to get somewhere safe, so I took it out with a grenade, which bought a whole double column of pirate scouts down the road - I didn't survive that. This meant I had to do all of those skins again - which I did, with teeth gritted. With the last one secured and game saved, I got jumped on by another tiger at the water's edge. I stayed in the shallows and wore it down...until a croc got me from behind.

It was clearly not my day  ^-^

Oh yes, another thing: silenced sniper shots apparently can be heard by the pirates  >:( I'll need to test that further as I did shoot out the alarm box when a pirate was stood quite close by...I'm sure I shot another lone pirate earlier though who was in no-ones line of sight, and the rest all went crazy. Like I say, I'll have to check that as a few bevarages of the ale variety had been consumed by then, so my perception might not have been at its best. I also hope the vanishing animal and pirate bodies glitch stops...
Title: Re: FC3: Funny moments
Post by: Dweller_Benthos on January 09, 2013, 07:41:45 AM
Many times I've not been quick enough to loot a body or skin an animal and gone back to find nothing. If it was a pirate, their gun may still be there, but not the body. That's why I try to loot and skin as soon as possible after killing something. But that can get you into trouble if something else attacks while you're going about the dirty w@&k.
Title: Re: FC3: Funny moments

very funny story, Jim, I particularly liked the "clearly not my day" comment  :-D Don't we all know those  :-()

Just as you and D_B mentioned, I had the same experience. I won't forget my first carcass that disappeared which I didn't know about then. I had killed two valuable animals in short succession, leopards perhaps, and had finished skinning the first one when I came close to believing I had completely lost my orientation. Like, I was sure the second carcass should have been where I was looking around for it but I started to doubt whether or not it was the right spot and started to circle that area, increasing the radius constantly. A massive spiral. Nothing. As if the grass had covered it completely. I couldn't believe that I still hadn't found the fricking thing, went back and forth and around and around, nothing, and I gave up utterly puzzled. Until it happened again. It dawned on me that these bodies and carcasses might disappear over time and like D_B I developed a habit of killing only one and skin/loot it immediately. It keeps happening to me that I don't get snipers to loot as I have used to take them out first thing I get somewhere and of course they're the ones to disappear first.

True indeed that they can vanish fairly quickly - these though were blinking out of existence a second after falling to the ground. The glitch has gone now, I'm happy to say and bodies are staying long enough to be looted again.

Added to the increased animal factor I mentioned, the camp north of Rust Yard had six or seven attack dogs but only three pirates - so absolutely no chance of liberating the outpost undetected, even after three Komodo attacks there were still four or more.

I got my second of two camps undetected after opening the tower by Badtown - I could see the camp to the south from the top - pretty much a perfect line of sight, and so let rip with the RPG, nullifying all alarms and occupants with three shots  :)

I ran into a herd of deer (literally) with an assault truck with a large rock as a back drop.  My rig crashed into the rock and one of the deer (that I'd not hit) jumped and ran over my hood, however I was certain that I'd hit at least to.  Out of my rig I hopped and checked to find one deer under my rear wheels and another I'd hit so hard ot was on the other side of the rock.  Thankfully I was able to skin both without incident.  However, on another jaunt I ran over a single deer, but then was immediately accosted by a group of pirates so I had to wander slightly away from the deer carcass as I was trying to save my own.  When I returned, I could not find hide nor hair of that deer.  \:/

The beasties do act very oddly alright and can benefit you like that  :-X

I saw a Leopard spring after a Tapir, miss and subsequently land nose first in the shallows of the river, whereupon it prompty drowned, bum upwards. Easiest Leopard skin I ever got.

I also had two Dingos follow me into the courtyard where you do the rabid dogs with an RPG mission, joined by a Komodo, who had also apparently followed me from the opposite hillside - one grenade cleared up that little meeting  :)

I'm impressed with the animal behaviours the devs have depicted. From a high vantage point I was watching this tiger relaxing. It sat and looked around for a minute, then lay down and started grooming itself in typical cat-fashion - lick one paw a few times then wipe it over its head, which it repeated several times, then it yawned and stretched out for a bit. Eventually it got up and wandered away.

I've seen pigs rolling on their backs and even the occasional rat I've seen will have a behavioural trait or two, like briefly sitting up on its haunches and sniffing the air.

Just wondering - has anybody ever seen any monkeys outside of Amanaki Town?

Avoid wrecking a car on warrior difficulty. It only took a slight tumble but immediately burst into flames and before I could get out and heal myself, I was dead...

Also I had one of those what the hell is happening moments during a co-op match - I was in mid-desperate battle with a heavy on his last legs and hammering him with my U100 from cover when the options screen popped up with 'Resume...blah...quit'

I tried going back, but no response - nothing...

Turns out the wireless controller had run out of charge  I had a frantic couple of seconds unplugging the ready charged one and activating it. Luckily the checkpoint had been reached and I was still alive  :) I did feel foolish.

Last night I was in back in Bad Town visiting the gun shop and the whole time I was there your avatar in a no nonsense fashion kept a shotgun leveled at my navel.  ???

I thought about making a screen cap of that, cropping it and dropping it in as my avatar but decided not to steal your thunder.  Well that and the fact that after 45 minutes of rummaging around in my system I can't find the file where the game is hiding my screen captures.  Who knows the feature may not even be working on my system but either way I've given up on trying if there's no point to it.  ::)

on topic:

Co-op game. Defending a position in a small village. A road, a few shacks, crates and stuff like that. Enemies come in waves, every once and then they approach guns blazing in a Jeep with a mounted gun. Four players, and four times as many enemies. One player is incapacitated, lying on the road, I run over to revive him and while crouched, I get run over by a perforated smoking car that no longer has a crew and it comes to a stop right next to the guy whom I just had successfully revived; so I'm lying incapacitated on the road in his place now. He revives me, runs away and I.. get taken out the second time by that very same fricking car again as it blows up in my face just when I'm about to come to. One of those moments you're about to cry but laugh about it later.  :-D

I know that feeling. I was doing the Pirates Cove mission and had already died after getting most of the way through the beach part - I think it was the effects of Goat curry that got me...that and a propane cylinder  ;)

Anyway, having approached along the proscribed checkpoint path (outer sniper post first, then the inner one) and dealt with the troublesome snake...twice (yeah, I died again) I tried a different approach. Staying at the first sniper post, I took out the other sniper then the key holder before proceeding to lay down a blanket of grenade launcher fire and was keeping them all at bay.

All going well until that damn snake jumped at me  >:( it must have slithered from all the way over by the second tower to do so - vindictive little runt. It was snake sushi after that - I can tell you  ;)

FC3 actually ran for almost a half hour last night before crashing, but I knew it would, so I didn't try to do anything serious, just drove around at breakneck speed to see what trouble I could stir up and maybe grab some loot.

I left the outpost shop at Nat's Repairs and headed down the peninsula to the ruins at the end. Just outside the gate, saw some Rakyat guys with a busted jeep, so I spun around and went back to the shop and grabbed my torch figuring I could get some quick cash, back to the shop to trade out the torch for my grenade launcher, and be back on my way in no time. Get back out on the road and somehow the guys have fixed their jeep, joined some other guys on the beach fighting some pirates. Strange how they magically did that, but hey, not being one to wonder what the heck this game thinks it's doing, I drove out on the beach like a wild man and proceeded to run over the last pirate with a satisfying thump. Hopped out and got my $200, yoinks! Thanks buddy.

Back on the road, got out to the ruins and was looking around for loot. As I had come in fast and hot, and the brakes on all these island vehicles must be rotted from the salt air, I had skidded to a halt near one of the ruins at the end of the peninsula. That's when I saw the door was marked with that symbol that means "blow me up please" so I clamped some C4 to it, stepped back and.... noticed my truck was a bit close, but decided to risk it. Boom goes the door and extra boom goes my truck. LOL Didn't care, it was a crap truck anyway.

As I was looting the ruins and grabbing the letter from the poor Japanese guy, I heard some commotion back outside. Seems some Rakyat guys in a truck had driven past a poor civilian (the guy in the ball cap) too fast and scared him. He was cowering behind a rock. Then I saw his jeep was parked down a ways and smoking and I realized I had never gone back to the shop to trade out my torch so I fixed it for him. $50, yoinks! Thanks buddy.

Down to the shore across to the island and grabbed the statue and some loot there. Around the shore, more loot. Out to a boat to get more loot and then to that really deep hole. Dove down and grabbed the loot chest and just made it back to the surface. Quick save and dove over the side again and grabbed the statue and beat my way to the surface. I was really straining but I thought I would make it just fine....

Minor rant here about the swimming controls. Almost all the other FPS games I've played that have swimming use the jump key to swim up. This is almost universal. Of course, FC3 doesn't but that key command is etched in my brain or something, as I always try to use jump to swim up, wonder why I'm not going anywhere, then remember I have to point my way up with the mouse and swim forward. Then, what's the deal with the swim fast function? What exactly makes it change from swimming fast to not swimming fast? I find myself just hammering it to be sure I'm swimming fast as it turns off arbitrarily it seems.

.... anyway, I think I'm going to make it, he's gasping for air, the surface is right there.... and I misjudge the angle I'm swimming at, bump my head against the bottom of the boat and drown. Missed it by that much.

Respawn at Kell's Boat Repairs (I don't even remember clearing this outpost, there's loot all over the place, weird) anyway, that actually saved me travelling around the lagoon anyway, so I head out to the submerged ruins and start grabbing the loot there. Play cat and mouse with the sharks a bit and then it starts crashing again, but I did manage to get all the loot and statue from those ruins before calling it quits for the night.

It's really an enjoyable game when it actually runs.

Did you know you can win a race challenge without a vehicle?

I did one last night and I was going really well until I came around a tight bend and there was a beam carrier on the road. I altruistically tried to avoid him and consequently ran the car onto a bunch of rocks from which I couldn't extract it. There were just three markers to go, so I left the car and ran the rest of the way - and won!

Repair weirdness?  We had discussed way back in the FC2 days customizing rides by removing doors, hoods and such and I had a situation arise that made me think I'd give 'er a bit of a try now.

Zipping around on a jet-ski I skiffed off a submerged rock and the right engine cover flew off.  Ok, I kind of liked the look of the exposed exhaust housing for the cylinders but knowing that I'd already inflicted damage I swung over to a nearby shoreline based captured outpost, completely beached the jet-ski so it would be completely accessible and grabbed a repair torch from the vending machine before I attempted to shoot off the left engine cover.

A single round from my silenced sniper rifle did the trick popping off the other cover and as expected the jet-ski started smoking indicating it was approaching total meltdown.  I quickly found the right spot to stand to bring up the repair indicator bar and set to with the torch.

Imagine my surprise when the repair reached conclusion and both of the engine covers magically reappeared.  ???

I repeated the process shooting off the covers, applying the repair torch and every time the engine covers were mended as good as new.  OK they still had the bullet marks on them but those always fade over time.  ::)

it's not just repairing, it's renovating. :-D Which indeed prevents us from using "customised" vehicles.  :( And the next problem is that keeping them isn't as easy as in FC2.

I learned early on in FC3 that quick travel could pull you out of almost any jam.  Free access and using quick travel effectively as well as the practice of hopping between the North and South island locations also goes a long way towards getting us over becoming attached to any one vehicle.  :-\\

On the plus side I realized using stealth and a machete to slash an enemy's tires (seeing as how they don't carry repair tools) say at a road block before starting a chase sequence would really put them at a disadvantage.  Hmmm, have to think more on that one.

Talking of shot tyres - whilst like most, I think the vehicle physics is pretty bad, I got into a gun fight with some pirates and noticed something cool. After mopping up the traditional three waves of response to the initial fight, I drove off and found myself concentrating harder on keeping the jeep on the road than I would normally have to.

It seemed more keen to drive on the grass verges than the road and felt like I had a flat. Swerving to avoid occasional Rakyat patrols was becoming increasingly difficult, so I stopped and had a look - sure enough, one of my tyres was shot out and completely gone.

Quite impressive physics I thought.

I've noticed that too - not only do you hear a "bludda-bludda-bludda" noise when you get a flat but you can almost physically feel it in the way the vehicle behaves. It is impressive :-X

Talk about backseat drivers...

A jeep full of Rakyat guys came my way just when I was in need of a vehicle, so I stood next to the road until they slowed alongside and gave me the chance to do the commandeer thing. Which I did, pausing long enough to allow all four of them to pile back in, then we hit the road in search of fun and adventure. But a parting of the ways took place soon after when I tried to drive the car up a steep side road, lost traction and slipped off, landing back on the main road with sufficient force to convince my passengers that I was in fact the enemy, whereupon a bunch of detection indicators immediately popped up indicating that the threats were the cranky, coccyx-bruised islanders right behind me (and of course they had no trouble detecting me, I was like two or three feet away in the driver's seat of the very same vehicle).

So off we went on a merry little road trip, me driving with white arrows and semicircles in my face while my passengers were calling me all sorts of names ("traitor" came up a lot) but as long as the car remained in motion they weren't able to make good on their threats, as apparently they can sit and they can shoot but they can't do both at once (I'm surprised they can even walk and talk at the same time). It was a bit like that movie "Speed" - as long as I didn't stop moving, I was safe from harm. So down the road we went, me driving and they blathering, until the incessant yabbering compelled me to take the only action I could - I aimed the car at a cliff, bailed out at the last minute and let them go over with it. This not only removed the threat to my person but it also put an end to their infernal carping.

Nobody criticizes me while I'm driving - nobody.

You're a true gentleman. Didn't yell back or anything, just politely left the car to those who may have known better. The fact that all of them failed at once wasn't worth uttering something peculiarly nasty to them, either, but indeed a nice little story to be told among friends.  :-D

This thread brings up an interesting thought - do you suppose the repair tool fixes flats?  I've never used the repair tool even though I've been meaning to play with it.
Title: Re: FC3: Funny moments
Post by: mandru on January 20, 2013, 08:06:36 PM
Yes PZ, I've experimentally slashed the tires on a vehicle and applied the repair tool at the sight of the damage and watched as the tires not only become restored the vehicle bounces up a bit as there is suddenly air in its wheels again.

If the wheels have flown off it's too far beyond repair for the tool to fix though.

As for shooting enemy tires this is not a concept we players have to ourselves.  I've clearly heard a voice among swarming privateers during one of my exploratory practice runs at the airport shout "Shoot out his tires! - Take him down!"  I'd come into the area from the East and driven the entire length of the air strip to see if I could get a .50 cal situated outside of the office my brother is in that's guarded by the heavy as well as being in a direct line of sight of the only alarm call box for the entire area.

That alarm box by the way is front center of the building immediately one door to the East of the brother's holding cell.  My hope is that when I take that mission live (I can't forcibly enough state how much I hate and loathe when two separate missions are chained together with a timer  :D  ) shooting that box off the post will cut down the resistance faced when we make our escape.  Of course my thought on the the correct plan of action is shoot the alarm box first then open up on the flamethrower holding heavy behind the wire mesh.  Then if time allows mop up the tarmac a bit to give me a clearer crossing to the checkpoint.

Spoiler
I'm guessing the helicopters and patrol launches will still try to mess with the escape?

You might be able to sneak in ands disable that alarm before going to Hoyt. I disabled the compound's alarm for fun during my first vistit and subsequently saw that it was still off the next time I was there right before the poker game.

Funny moments, on topic..

I liberated an outpost for fun during my first playthrough, probably the only one with an open toilet door.. and a bog. Subsequently when I visited the place after a couple hundred hours again I noticed that the bog still needed flushing. Now I know I did well not visiting there before.

In the Trial "Decimation Barrage" that is slightly west of the Long Shore View outpost on a hill top you are armed with an RPG and a mounted .50 cal.  In the trial you encounter an oncoming swarm of helicopter gunships .  Being one of the rare trials where on the first attempt I've actually gotten my name posted on the big red rock as high score.  I've gone back several times in both cases to try to beat those scores since I better understand the mechanics and pacing of the trial but as usual there's no breaking the curse of the first timer's fluke for me.

My latest stab at Decimation Barrage where I'd scored 400 points (just 20 short of my all time high) and received very minimal damage but for reasons I don't understand it was classified as a "Fail".  I gave up in frustration at that result.  ???  :D

I used the nearby glider to drift back down to the Long Shore View outpost.  On arrival I happened to glance at the roadway running west from there along the lip of the ocean cliffs and noticed that there were a lot of scattered metallic obstructions that were causing considerable traffic problems.  Going over to investigate I was surprised to find that the debris that was strewn along the road and well up the well scorched hillside towards the trial site was the torn up carcasses from many of the 400 points worth of gunships I'd downed.  :-D

That it does :-X 8) Cool tale mandru :)

On the subject of things crashing, one of my favourite pastimes is to lie in wait near a road somewhere in pirate territory and wait for a vehicle with more than one bad guy in it to come along. Then I try to snipe the driver and watch the fun as the driverless car then goes out of control with the helpless passenger(s) still in it. Pick the right spot (such as a bend near a cliff) and the results can provide much merry mayhem >:D

Heh heh fragger.

Killing pirates is funny and sometimes they are entirely too fragile so you don't have time to fully enjoy their death throes very much beyond a weakly croaked "I can't believe Brody.. killed me...".

On the other hand imagining a scene like the one you describe fragger fully qualifies as hilarious.  :-D

mandru, you'll always "fail" as long as you don't beat your own score. In my case (with one complete and two unfinished separate parallel playthroughs) I have to beat my own score of independent playthroughs in order to achieve a win.

fragger, I do that sometimes on occasion as in if I happen to see a car but I like the idea of actually waiting for a patrol to show up so I can shoot the driver's lights out  :-D I just remembered that the most spectacular result was a car going over a natural ramp sending it in a 45° angle up and away while it was performing barrel rolls accompanied by a hollering crew that got flung out :-D

I was clearing out an outpost on the Northern island....one near a boat dock. One of the pirates comes charging at me and I start backing up. I ended up backing off the end of the boat dock not watching what I was doing and splashed into the water. Next thing I know the pirate follows me off the end of the dock and drowns. I saw his body sink to the bottom in front of me, LOL.

I'd seen the warnings occasionally on the screen "Do not kill innocent civilians" but never thought too much about it.

I was camping the the sewage treatment plant from the path up the hillside to the West pestering the pirates.

I'd been at it for an hour or so and was between rounds of pirate respawns when a jeep went through with three civilians in it.  To liven things up a bit I switched over to the signature sniper with the explosive rounds and  ripped the hood off their ride for them.  Two of them bailed and ran away but the third crouched down beside the jeep as it went into flames and then exploded.  That gave me the ominous warning about who not to kill.

"Yeah fine" I thought and for laughs I picked off the other two scurrying civilians and then set about destroying every carload of civilians that came within range.  At some point when the game hit the maximum level of guff it was going to accept from me it gave me the "Fist of God" treatment via death and a black screen with the message "Killing innocent civilians will not be tolerated!"

It was fun while it lasted.  This latest update removed the unlimited ammo trick using the escape key and the pirates at the sewage plant have had their IQs bumped up a notch or their range of free roam increased so that they can now detect the way to get to me and are either jumping into jeeps or coming after me on foot instead of staying down below shouting curses.

So I guess that overlook is now an ex-favorite spot to hang out.  :-\\

make sure which difficulty level you're playing on. I had at least five instances when I checked the difficulty level was up a notch. Now the new "master (very hard)" difficulty is available and I'm currently playing on that level, they indeed seem to be able to see me from a lot farther away than before.

Here I am again ;)

I tried not to look in the FC3 forum until I finished the game. So now I am here to bother you ;) I didn't (yet) read the whole thread but I will catch up on that later.

When I first started the game I was near the Amanaki Village running on the street beside the river to the Amanaki Outpost. Suddenly I heard a vehicle - and a pirate jeep appeared in front of me. So I had the holster mod installed, which holsters your weapon after you performed an action which needs both of your hands e.g. loot bodies. So I was standing there and the jeep coming at full speed nearer and nearer. I tried to draw a weapon but there wasn't time for that, so I prepared to jump out of the way. When I wanted to do that the jeep was getting off the road and down the slope where it turned over and over again. It stopped doing that near the river and I was standing on top of the slope and looking down to the (now dead) pirates under their jeep and was scratching my head and thinking: wtf just happened? :)

After patch 1.05 was released I decided to use one of my three careers (my first that also got the story mission completed) to reset all outposts; additionally I set the difficulty to "Master (very hard)"

So now I wanted to retake "Camp Murder" not far to the North of Badtown and scanned the area for bad guys. I decided to shoot one charger in the middle of the camp with my silenced Z93 sniper rifle and ran away in a circle around the outpost so I could watch what was going on from a safe position.

Everyone was running towards my first position from where they figured my shot came. Everyone but their only sniper whom I took out with my silenced 1911 "Shadow" and then I disabled the alarm manually. Meanwhile the guys were returning so I laid two mines near one of those alarm posts and close to the centre and then I had to hurry as they had detected me. Nevertheless I managed to drop a third mine on my way out and started to run away as fast as possible. I heard one mine set off and a second later the next mine went off -- outpost liberated. That was quick.. hehe  :-D

Inside the safehouse, replenishing my ammo, I thought about the third mine that was supposedly sitting somewhere between the recently arrived Rakyats who kept going, "who's da man? Me!" when I heard a sharp bang followed by a "f@#k me!" -- Ah, there. I opened the door, ready for action, but everyone outside was still peacefully guessing whether or not they were "da man." I walked amidst them checking out pirate bodies when all of a sudden the detection metre set off and everyone turned against me.

It lasted a few seconds.  :-D

I couldn't loot the poor sods because I already had hit the 10k mark again.. off to play some all-in poker games..

I was thinking about fragger's "luck" when going to lose money.. and like him I hit the jackpot. Three times in a row $1,000 playing all-in. However, this fourth time took the biscuit..
[smg id=5672 type=preview align=center caption="2013 03 06 00012"]

I already had a full house when the flop was dealt, but everyone with "three of a kind" except me, I got four of a kind with four times four.  :D  See the game wasn't expecting everyone to go all-in, the pot should read "1000" rather than "100"  :-D

Recently one of the most heard lines for me is, "what happened to the alarm?!"  :-()

Maybe it's an illusion but it seems to me that on Master difficulty the mercs and pirates are way more sensitive and finally react appropriately when you throw a rock somewhere. It appears that they can hear it from farther away now. What isn't an illusion is the fact that their bullets rip through you as if you were a sheet of rice paper. Better stay clear of their weapons.. it does hurt now and you'll find yourself dead on the ground before you can reload. :-D

I have reset all outposts for the second time (yes, I did liberate them all again before that) and started a cross-country walk from the Compound (oh man, I love the compound when no outpost is liberated nearby.. loads of reinforcement mercs pouring into that place  :-D ) headed to some random coastal outpost in the Northern half of the map. Merc patrols everywhere. :-X But careful on Master difficulty.. they're quite a bit meaner now.  :-()

I was walking near a road, a bit downhill from it so cars wouldn't spot me, when I heard a car approach, some male voice going, "UNNGH!" and the car disappeared without ever slowing down. Curious as I am I had to take a peek and saw two dead mercs lying in a T-crossing. Apparently the car had pasted them both and didn't as much as swerve. I needed a little ammo anyway so I looted those poor sods :-D

I was up on a bluff and down below were three pirates next to the road with a bear in a cage. So of course I shot the cage and let the bear out. The bear took down two of the baddies then headed for the remaining pirate, who was frantically trying to gun it down as it charged. While he was doing that, another bear came out of the bush across the road and also charged him, from the rear.

He actually managed to drop the first bear - just in time to get mauled from behind by the second one >:D

I've restarted the game in the second save slot and reached the point where I get to go burn Hoyt's pot fields.

My first time through the mission Kicking The Hornet's Nest I hit it at night in a mad rush to get through it.  But this time I went after it in daylight and approached it from a very laid back "No need to rush this" attitude.  Cautiously I perched on the high ridge between fields 1-2 & the largest fields 3-4.  Camera equipped I thoroughly scanned each field for all enemy personnel and eliminated them before descending to destroy the fields they were guarding returning to the ridge top to survey the next before moving on.  I was even able to lure several of the pirates up out of the waterfront shanty town where they were posted out in the open to clear the way before burning the final field and rushing through to hit the boat with my grenade launcher.  At least Plan Wise my strategy was working tick by tick according to the numbers.  :-D

Part way through the mission I noticed that my computer screen was acting up.  ??? "$&@#!"

There was a swelling and contraction that was happening on the outer edges of the screen that was making it difficult to keep my field of focus at the center of the screen.  My first thought was that my monitor was going on the fritz but when I paused the menu screen was stable.  ?????

So then I started to worry that there was a problem with my fairly new graphics card.  :'(

It wasn't until a bit after that that I had an "Oh, Duh!" moment and realized that I'd managed to outstrip my previous high benchmark for goofiness.  I'm probably the only person ever to get paranoid from the effects of virtually burning pot.  :-[

My first time through this part of the game was dark so I hadn't even noticed the visuals.

Just reminds me, one incident that took place yesterday near the Pacific Airport (now, that's a hint at where those Rook islands may be located). I was on foot playing the minefield game with oncoming merc traffic on my way to the airport. In case you haven't played it: walk along an enemy-infested road with a mine in your hands. Once you see a four-wheeled patrol, drop a mine and run away from the vehicle so they will give chase. After the unavoidable crisp bang turn around and you are likely to see a wrecked car doing somersaults at you while puffing out whiffs of black smoke and flames and whirling up white dust from the road. Just great :)

However.. out of the blue, a Rakyat patrol came bombing down the road from behind me. And I was looking at a merc patrol that came bombing down the road from ahead of me. They shot past each other in their respective lane, turned around, and gave it another try. Of course they missed each other again, braked, turned around, and gave it another try. Of course they missed each other again, braked, turned around, and gave it another try. Of course they missed each other again, braked, turned around, and gave it another try. Finally they clashed, got out and impressed one another with insults, bullets and brave postures until the few survivors fell into the river and drowned.

I wish I had had a camcorder with me. A story to be told to and by generations to come :-D

thank you. You are too kind, my friend :) I love that technique. Basically fail safe, it takes out whatever comes at you and usually they won't have time to fire a single bullet at you. Run there, loot the bodies and get ready for the next car. Just as usually, the bang attracts more cars.. you'll end up with a road that looks as if a car factory blew up next to it  >:D

That's about what it looks like when you turn around. The car is still careening and the blip on top to the right of the car is a merc being hurled out of the car.  :-D

Thanks for the pat on the back Art.  It doesn't w@&k all the time but when it does.  :o   Maybe it's because of the weight in the back lifting the front bumper (they feel top heavy when driving them) but the trucks with the .50 cal gun mount seem to fly best.  :-()

On the down side I went last night to the Lonely Shore Way outpost (N.E. South Island) typically an Anamaki traffic hot spot and set up a rubber boat on the roadway and waited for a half hour and not a single vehicle came through.  ???

There's something about the strip of road that's right in front of Cradle Gas outpost that makes it an amusing spot for traffic watching.  Head on impacts and mobs of Amanaki warriors dismounted trying to figure out what to do about it are unusually common.  I like to pull a vehicle up in the East outpost entrance driveway near the roadside but far enough back to not get caught up in the action.  By standing on the roof of my parked vehicle it keeps me safely out of reach of the area's roving packs of wild dogs while watching the show.

Once when I was there I saw a .50 cal mounted truck hit head on with a group of locals in one of the small sedans.  The truck went right up and over the top of the sedan knocking it off track and directly into a clump of warriors standing around who had previously climbed out of their rides because of their own front end mash up.  Resulting casualties among the warriors set off a general blood letting vendetta against the poor locals which included not just the female driver but her three male passengers as well.

When they'd tracked and gunned down the four fleeing and screaming locals the proud warriors sauntered back to their stalled trucks to once again resume smoking and contemplating what they should do next as if it were just another lovely day on Rook Island.

lol - that reminds me.

Shortly after liberating an outpost your friends, the distinguished and honourable Rakyat warriors, will show up and settle down like blowflies on a fresh turd, uttering "who's da man? Me!" and equally silly lines given the fact that they did nothing but arrive right after the fight. Which makes me a bit angry. However, Usually you'll find goodies such as extra and free C4, mines, ammo and the likes lying around immediately after taking out an outpost (err.. taking out an outpost, does that make it an inpost like a double negative such as "it ain't no one" makes that a "someone?"  ???? OK, forget it. :-D ) and not to let a good thing go to waste, I plant my old C4 in just the exact amount of fresh C4 lying around to end up even and blow stuff up so my bluebottle friends get a good buzz out of it. I then run into my safehouse and listen to the complete chaos outside. I'd hear things catch alight, stuff blow up, a few "where'd he go?" along with some random "Aaaaargh!" and arriving reinforcements that crash their cars outside.. pretty hilarious.  :-()

I know what you mean, Art, about the guys who rush up just after you've done all the dirty w@&k and start talking smack like they are the bad asses that took the outpost. You can bet they go back to the bar at night and brag about killing all these pirates.

I've seen something like mandru, where a warrior patrol truck was in front of me, came upon a little sedan and neither gave in to the game of chicken and they drove into each other. I thought I was going to see some good fireworks, but the truck just used the sedan as a ramp and flew into the air, jumping over the other car, landing back on the road. Both cars continued on their way like nothing had happened. I was too slow to even get a screenshot, wish I had video of that one.

Well, it is indeed hard to see. It's a vulture. I was on a water scooter, just stepping off to dive for a loot chest. I saw in the edge of my eye a bird or something dive vertically into the water, exactly the way seagulls tend to do when they try to catch fish. I was half hoping that 'it' would come up again, but it stayed down. When I checked, it was a huge vulture, just beneath the surface, The water wasn't very deep there. I took the picture because it sounds all pretty unbelievable. I mean, why would a vulture do such thing? There wasn't even a corpse nearby. Wonder if you have spotted such weird behaviour too ???? ;)

I'm currently back on one career that is dedicated to the Swartzmod just so I may enjoy the wingsuit again (as opposed to the career with Ziggy's mod) and have just reset all outposts so there will be loads of enemies all over those islands.

I ran up a mountain and casually hopped down a cliff whipping out my wingsuit and started to zip down. The speed was considerable and I came by a road and saw a Jeep without mounted gun coming at me. I thought it to be funny to whiz past them right over their heads, which I did, and was grinning like a madman when I heard them go, "Jason Brody?!" -- and then I noticed the lamp pole I was heading to in a very straight line.. THUD!

I think you can still find tufts of my hair and a few of my front teeth sticking out of the top of that pole where I hit it and hear the echo of the laughter of those retarded Jeep mercs still ringing out from the mountains.

***

Again, wingsuit and downhill, passing mercs on a road, grinning at them, when I hear gunfire and come to a sudden stop in mid-air. Everything starts to go black while I plummet right down in front of them, already dead when I hit the ground. It was close to a radio tower so I got resurrected right where I started, tried it three times, got shot down three times. Then I used a fast travel station.

***

Wingsuit, downhill to coastline, water landing. Cool. Shark, waiting there, not so cool. Loading screen.

:-[
In hindsight, it was funny. :-D

Oh man, I just had one of those moments. On the beach, merc rubber patrol boat some hundred yards away from the coast, my SVD ready. I fire two rounds and kill the gunner. The driver turns the boat towards me and keeps going at full speed which lifts the boat's nose up just enough so you can't see the driver behind it. I keep shooting until I run dry, the boat some twenty yards away, I finished reloading and the moment I was about to decide with which weapon to take out the driver I see the boat beach -- still rushing in my general direction, the driver shouts, "he's out in the open!" -- and then he bloody runs me over with his bloody rubber boat!  ???

The last thing I see while tumbling down and before I die is the boat disappear behind me. He must have gone about ten yards up the beach with it. Crazy dipsticks, those mercs  :)

I had another funny moment. A T-junction, I had rigged one road with three mines (by the way, you can lay out more but only the last three will w@&k, any superfluous mines will stay and beep but won't set off and you can't remove them) and for effectiveness three additional packs of C4 in the gaps so it was an explosive carpet spread out nicely. From experience I know that this sort of trap does catch everything. I was just finishing my w@&k when I heard a patrol technical closing in so I had to run not to get caught in the *BOOOM* ..phew, that was lucky. Not a scratch on me but a smouldering wreck and three charred bodies.. heh heh.

Well, I wanted to watch rather than run so I set up everything anew. Then I went a bit uphill and wanted to hide in the bushes to watch and enjoy when all of a sudden the whole pack blew up again but I hadn't heard any engine noise. Strangely there was no new wreck just only the old one. What the hell? I went back and examined the scene and saw this:
[smg id=5912 type=preview align=center caption="Screenshot0819"]

The solution: I had placed one mine close to the wreck and thereby close to a body. Bloody CROWS had come flapping down silently for a feast and.. set off one mine which instantly set off every explosive in range, the whole thing

So there I was in the south island, by the side of the road, when a technical came along with two privateers on board. They whizzed past, slowed, turned, came back towards me, drove onto the verge, stopped, and got out, apparently to just wander around and smell the aloe. Being as I was in need of a vehicle I decided to abscond with theirs, however one dude remained right in front of the driver's side access, blocking it. No prob, thought I, I'll just get in from the other side. So I did, just as the other guy decided to get back into the driver's seat. Since the driver's seat was now occupied but I had already initiated an interaction, I was automatically shunted by the program onto the mounted MG. And off we went, leaving the other privateer to his own devices.

This situation had immense possibilities for experimentation (like, what would happen if I fired at other privateers, for one), but the scoundrel who was driving took me straight towards the outpost just a few dozen meters down the road. As I hadn't done a save for a while and wasn't prepared to risk becoming dead just yet, I chickened out and bailed when I saw where he was taking me (I was still able to do the dive-and-tumble thing).

That was the first time I'd been able to get into a vehicle with a privateer, but the timing stank :D Now I want to see if I can pull it off again - the potential for merriment is tantalizing - but I need the right set of conditions to come about again...

That was a fun read fragger.  :-D  :-X

I had pretty much the same situation arise only it was with an Amanaki driver.

One of the trucks with the mounted .50 cal pulled up to where I was standing at the roadside and stopped.  They jumped out but the driver stubbornly stood over the door blocking the access to the driver's seat.  I ran around back and boarded the truck through the gunner's position but before I could shift to the front the driver jumped back in and off we went.  It was fun for a while being chauffeured around with the freedom to apply the power of the .50 cal liberally on encroaching pirates and every bit of wildlife I could get a line on.  ^-^

But all good things come to an end and after a good 5 minutes or so the driver pulled the same stunt yours did by driving straight into an unlocked outpost.  The problem with that was that I wasn't paying close enough attention to where we were going and didn't have the alertness or good sense to bail out.  Gunfire was coming from all around me and the alarms for back up were triggered before I could clean things up.

I have to give a nod to the developers that they made the enemies we face in the game smart enough to shoot at your ride.  You will hear them yell "Target the truck!" usually right before you get your wheels blown off.  ::)

I'd previously learned that once you've triggered the alarms at an outpost even if you slink away and come back three days later (in real time) the outpost never cools off and is in instant alert as soon as you come into range even though they've not seen this second approach.  My outtake from the gunner joyride was that I learned the only way to reset the unalarmed status of an outpost once a call for backup has gone out is to die  and that will give a fresh restart If you really are striving for things like a perfect unobserved capture of an outpost.

I'm pretty sure it was actually locked  ^-^

I had a few of those co-driver events.

One that went terribly wrong was at the Airfield when I tried to hop into the car from the other side because a merc was blocking the driver's door -- I couldn't do anything but watch my character slide across the bonnet and perform a takedown from above on the guy who was blocking the door which of course disturbed every merc around to a point that they completely forgot about my uniform and most certainly wouldn't have accepted my unvoiced excuse of all this being a really unlucky accident.  :) Then I killed them all.

A few happened when trying to get into Amanaki vehicles but those rides never lasted long. Those that were not interrupted by firefights usually ended with the driver pulling to the side and getting out for no apparent reason which made my character change seats automatically so I became the driver. However, it happens a lot easier to get into a car with Amanaki drivers than into merc cars.

Merc cars can't be interacted with as long as the driver is still in. I don't even recall being driven around by a merc. However, only yesterday I had the funny situation that I had killed the merc driver while the gunner was still behind the mounted gun in that turret but couldn't see me for some reason (maybe because the technical had collided with a tree and he couldn't move or get out) and I didn't see him, either, when I got in. Only after starting up the engine I heard a guy behind me cursing and the .50 cal gun was all across my windscreen and nearly touched the bonnet (apparently he tried to aim at me  ) Of course I tried to keep him in so I avoided stopping or slowing down but eventually he must have fallen out of the turret because the next time I checked he was gone.  :)

@ Fragger;  nice coincidence to catch a ride like that! :-X

I'd suggest you stick in your position next time, no matter what happens. I've quite some experience now being on a mounted gun in hectic situations (Rakyat trial Transport Destruction) And the only way they will kill you is to blow up your vehicle. You can rapidly replenish your health while still on the gun if you have enough syringes, and if you carry enough Aloe or Arrowroot you can easily prepare some more if needed. Should be enough to take out quite some bad guys ^-^

Wonder what the driver would've done in that case ::)

it can be done quicker with less casualties: The game remembers how you killed the last civilian and if you do it the same way twice in short succession, you'll get punished. E.g. shoot one with your pistol, then shoot the next with your pistol, and off you go  :-D

In my post game knocking around I've found that if I go camp at the airport, Hoyt's compound or one of the other enemy respawn locations it's almost as if my presence causes the game to start pumping "Innocent Locals" and wandering Amanaki warriors into the area.  Me?  I just want to find new and creative ways to shoot up or immolate bad guys and the freaking islanders are bloody trying to picnic in my killing field.

It can become a real problem trying to blow up a stray vehicle brought in by mindless looky loos and abandoned conveniently close to new respawning group of enemies without having to scan first to avoid killing these local gawkers who are intent on wandering around in the thick of things.

Even find your self cheering for the enemies dogs?  >:D

Need a quick lift?  This is too silly to be a serious tip.

Enter Hoyt's compound from the West end and go around to the back of the first building on your left.  There will be a metal cage you can hop up on and from there gain access to the roof by climbing up when prompted.  Once on top move to the highest part and the front of the building so that you are overlooking the street to Hoyt's office.  The trick here is to (while avoiding zip lines) run-jump out over the street and quickly deploy the wing suit as quickly as you get the chance.

If you're not in god mode you may want to keep your finger on the parachute button.  I hope you took your air sickness pills.  ;)

I know what will happen as I tried to do an air dive into the compound using my wingsuit; I had started by jumping off the highest mountain (near Gaztown I believe) and got that funny moment when I arrived. It took actually about a minute to land.  :-D I'll have to try your trick from inside the compound, looking forward to it  :) :-X

I had a pair of pirates on motor patrol try to run me down as I was moving along a beach.  I ran towards them, jumped to their hood and stepped right over the top of the jeep and off the back.  Sharply cutting the steering wheel the driver threw the jeep into a roll flinging them out of the jeep and into the surf.  Looking at their bobbing bodies I tossed a spiteful C-4 charge in after them and touched it off.

Both of their bodies went way up into the air.  :o

One of them flew off at an angel deeper into the water but the other  pretty much went straight up (hanging there rag doll fashion for moment) and straight back down.  ^-^  So I fed him another C-4 charge.

I was able to get 4 good bounces out of him before he became so waterlogged that I couldn't get another charge under him for proper lift.  >:D

In the after game I've been doing a lot of free roam and rampage.

I discovered while using the command line edit for "no detection" that if you approach the three privateers roasting the pig over a fire using the Grenade Takedown from behind on the one who is sitting on the ground off by himself it will kick him right up and over the pig and very often catch the other two completely unaware.  :)

"s#!t, no more hot sauce."
"Good, that means I won't be shitting my brains out tonight."
"Man, that sauce destroyed me."
"Damn, we're out of hot sauce."
"But I need my hot sauce fix!"
"I am addicted, I can't eat a meal without hot sauce."
"Where are <sic> the hot sauce?"
"Everything here tastes like s#!t without hot sauce."

Amazing - I hadn't ever heard that conversation before, yet I got back into the game earlier today and guess what I overheard? :-()

Here's a crazy bit, see the pic below. I wasn't quick enough to capture everything that happened here. I was traipsing through the bush when I heard a villager making panicky-type noises. He was by a river, and I caught sight of him just in time to see him get charged by a tiger. When the tiger pounced, the villager got pushed backwards into the river - where a crocodile lunged out and tried to get a snap in. The villager quickly slid on his back out into the middle of the river before sailing skywards, up and up for quite a long way, where he stalled for a moment, then plummeted back. I took the picture when he was on his way down, he went up to about twice that height. He landed flat on the water, stayed on the surface for a couple of seconds, then winked out.

I did this run for the best part of an hour, going from one side to the other.
I did another one where the Pirate post is at the beginning of a river and there's a road on either side of the outpost and they both linked, so you can drive around the post with a number of other roads joining, plenty of patrol jeeps to encounter with lots of fun  :-D

I had a run-in with some patrolling pirates, and after the fur stopped flying I came across this guy:

[smg id=6187 align=center width=600]

He was dead, despite the fact that he was still crouched and was swinging an air weapon from side to side. I was able to go right up to him and loot his zombie arse.

Not long after that I decided to go and liberate the Broken Neck Home outpost. My first tactic looked good on paper... I commandeered a vehicle from four Rakyat guys and let them get back onboard, then I drove them to the outpost. There is a longish stretch of straight downhill road leading from the NE right into the camp, so I gunned it from the top of the road, built up a good head of speed, then bailed out and let the car roll all the way down into the outpost with the Rakyat still in it, figuring that maybe they would put up a scrap and take out a few of the defenders, or at least keep them occupied long enough to allow me to bag the rest sneaky-fashion. The RPG pirate borked that plan by blowing up the car before the Rakyat guys could get out of it.

So on to plan B - go in like gangbusters and wreak havoc, alarms be damned. The alarms were consequently damned, and before long I had numerous reinforcements including a helicopter gunship on my case and things got rather warm. After a great deal of running, fighting and hitting up heal-juice I was down to just one heavy to deal with, as far as I could tell. I lured him back into the outpost and let the tiger out of its cage to chastise him, which it did with commendable feline efficiency.

But the outpost stubbornly refused to get liberated. I traipsed all around the surrounding scrub and couldn't find a single living pirate, but still my flag stayed unfurled. Just when I was putting it down to some sort of glitch and was resigned to going away and coming back to try again later, a detection indicator finally appeared. I ducked for cover and the indicator disappeared. I popped back up and it reappeared. I yo-yoed like this a couple more times, but no fight ensued, nor did I hear any yelling, cussing or derogatory Snow White comments.

Smelling a programming rat, I cautiously approached in the indicated direction and found the culprit. A heavy was lying dead on the ground, but apparently he could still see me - the detection indicator kept pointing right at him while I circled him.

So what else could I do? I made him absolutely dead with my SPAS. Without moving he said "I can't believe... you got... me..." (not hard to believe mate, you were already gotten), and the outpost then promptly liberated itself.

As it jolly well should have.

Good one fragger.   :)  :-X

I've found that when I'm using the no detect command line cheat you can do a take down and drag on one enemy and the guy standing there chatting with him will never notice as long as you drag the body away far enough to stash it where it won't be spotted.

Earlier tonight while playing (with no detection engaged) I'd used the take down and drag combo but instead of the body coming along with me to be dumped out of sight it hung there in an awkward half standing backwards slump where I'd knifed and grabbed him.  The mechanics were the same as if I was dragging him and his buddy who was standing there next to him when I grabbed him remained completely unaware.

I went through the motions of dragging the body off into the weeds hoping that the game would figure out it's error and shift the body out of sight when I let go of what ever it was the game thought I was moving but the second I released the drag the hanging corpse sagged and fell to the ground and the remaining privateer shouted "Whoa!" and started looking for me.

I was on top of a hill when I saw a group of two pirates and two captured natives walking up a dusty path so I decided to help those natives. I sniped the pirate at the end of the column but I guess he made a sound which made the pirate in front turn around, gawk, and start to shoot at his prisoner. I managed to finish him off before he could kill the poor sod, alright, but meanwhile the prisoner from the back was already being chewed up by a leopard. I then looked at the other prisoner just in time to see he was being manhandled by a Komodo dragon and of course he died in the process. Well.

The next time I saw a group like that I thought, lesson learned, waited until they were in a straight line and fired only one round with my sniper. It went through all of their heads. >:D

A singular facet of both FC2 and FC3 is how much additional albeit unintentional entertainment can be provided by their glitches 8) I've probably laughed my head off more times playing either of these games than I have with any other FPS, where a glitch more often than not spells exasperation.

Art, I can't count the number of times I've saved villagers' skins from pirates/privateers only to see them get clawed or chewed by some wild animal ::) You have to wonder how they survived long enough to get captured at all ????

At the lumberyard on the North island if you come across three pirates sitting around either a roasting pig or a plain camp fire it's worth listening to their conversation.  When I've encountered them it is usually on the South East extremities of the area.  :)

The basic theme runs along the line of each of them relating their experiences of the first time they killed someone.

An example:  "My first was a car accident.  :(   But when it happened I knew I liked it.  >:D "

Today I had three funny moments.

First I tried I believe mandru's tip which involves a wingsuit launch from within The Compound. Bloody hell, it sent me right up and out of town across the river and I whipped out my parachute just in time to avoid smacking into a mountain slope. All that within about five seconds after the launch.

Then I was busy around Rust Yard (killed their fecking dog first but had no intention to liberate any outpost) and stirred up some buffaloes which attracted some cassowaries which attracted the pirates of said outpost which attracted some tigers and.. before long I got the message popping up which told me I had liberated the outpost undetected. Damn, indeed I hadn't fired a single round except the one resting in the dog but I didn't want those feathered or furred friends to do all the wetwork and take out an outpost for me  :D :-D

Again I tried a tip from I believe mandru, near Rust Yard is the sniper location we all know from the story mission when we had to protect that dope-head wandering around in that purification plant before he made us a gunner on his boat and so on.. there is still a massive ammo crate which one may blow up and from there the purification plant is a well of respawning pirates which is a feast for any sniper  :) The funny bit, however, happened when I was indeed sniping pirates from there. I took out a few just to see them respawn, and aiming down the scope I waited for two to line up and fired. All went red with blood mist, I mean ALL went red as in I couldn't see a thing but red, and then feathers came floating down while the mist cleared. That made me think of fragger's "another WTF-moment" -- apparently a suicidal bird of paradise had managed to get right in front of my barrel when I pulled the trigger..  ???

Funny stories Art  :-X :-X Your one about Rust Yard made me think of the AM12 outpost. I was observing that one when a bunch of Komodos scurried into it and clobbered the pirates and all the dogs. Because I was there and watching, I got the "liberated" message with the undetected XP bonus. And all I did was look!

Regarding mandru's observation of the three camping pirates telling "first kill" stories, I've seen them do that in a couple of other places. One is on the beach just north of the drug fields. I overheard this exchange earlier tonight:

Pirate 1: "I stabbed a whore who was giving me s#!t. I can't remember where I was". Pirate 2: "My first was a hunting accident. I thought the ba$t@rd was a deer!"

Then I 'naded them all to get the Mulitkill points >:D

Seeing that shot at Hoyt's airfield and talking about things blowing up reminded me that I've been meaning to mention that the canvass tents at the East end of that area also go boom nicely when set off with an explosive round from the sniper rifle, C-4 or a grenade.

I believe they can be triggered by the gun in the chopper when you are making the escape with Jason's brother Reily.  ;)

Trying to max out my own tip (http://www.openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=3096.msg63678#msg63678), I kept collecting pirates and managed to have them follow me about a thousand metres. Took quite some time, too. No morale and no order are not easy to lead.

I started out with a foot patrol of two men and kept adding everyone who crossed my path. My main goal was to lead them into Amanaki Town  >:D On my way I lost a couple of pirates here and there, mostly because of hungry animals but I lost quite a few men to "friendly" grenades that had my name on them yet they took out a couple of the pirates' own crew which had grown temporarily to almost a dozen men. Temporarily down to five. Damn animals and grenades. We then stopped over in Amanaki outpost for the night which for some reason ended in a grenade mayhem among my travelling companions.

We didn't encounter any Amanaki warriors. On the way to Amanaki Town we only had a few melees with a couple of Komodo dragons but managed to reinforce ranks with patrols who did not want to travel on with two shot tyres but a bit of stoning made them immediately follow willingly on foot. Unfortunately no one wanted to follow into Amanaki Town, it seemed to have invisible doors with invisible signs that read, no pirates please. So I shot them all right at the doorstep, I then followed another invisible sign telling me to wipe my feet and I then cursed the whole fucking trip.

I know what it is like to get them all. Especially the flare gun took ages to get. Did you use regular MP to get them all levelled up? Or only coop?

Thanks. :-D

I maxed out I think most of if not all of my weapons together with Abletile, playing coop only. The flare was horrible and basically only doable while camping around ammo crates so we had plenty to shoot with. I keep forgetting whether or not they're all maxed out because a) I keep using just the same few weapons so I don't even see the stats of any other weapons which are all crap and b) I am so glad I don't have to touch those weapons any more once they actually are maxed out I much rather forget about the them and the chore.  :)

fragger I think this discovery has made the top 10 list among favorite pastimes in FC3.  At least it sits pretty solidly on the radar now that you've pointed it out.  :-X  +1

I've got a thrash and havoc save file that has all outposts still populated with pirates/privateers for me to ravage (using the god and no detect cheats) and had to go in to find out which of the outposts had been featured in your comic.  After a bit of rambling around I found that your sequence was shot on the North Island at Nat's Repairs.  I had to try out the elements of recreating your series but with pirates.

Using my bow to crack a jet of flame off the end of the tank the immediate reaction was a lot of screaming warning about a fire but briefly after the initial alertness the pirates reverted back to At Ease mode and became oblivious to it's danger.  A rock tossed, a pirate lured to within range "Ahhh! I'm on FIYAHH" and the subsequent thrashing around of his death throes.  Briefly the screaming about fire started again among the others but things calmed down again fairly quickly.

Time for another rock.  I got three of them that way.  >:D

I probably could have drawn in more of them but Nat's Repairs is lightly staffed (only 5 or 6 potential corpses) and I didn't want to capture the outpost.  What I wanted was more chaos.  So I worked my way over to Cradle Gas which is much more heavily populated and also has one of the large propane tanks like Nat's.

Jackpot!  I was able to lure 6 of them into the jet of flame.  It took some time to swing but what else have I got besides plenty of time on my hands and a ravenous hunger for amusement.  :-D

Once again I avoided capturing the outpost and as the personnel started running short I hopped on the quad runner that spawns nearby to the to the West of Cradle Gas and in a brief 20 seconds I was stirring things up at the Old Mines starting with running over their two dogs that rushed out to greet me (eat me?  ???? ) as I flew past on the quad.  A quick turn around and zip back down to Cradle Gas and everything was reset for a fresh go.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to spend some time playing with this one.  ;)

A funny thing happened at Mosquito Yard. From the top of the small hill at the back of the outpost I sniped open the tiger cage, and when the tiger came out it took out all the pirates bar two. One was the sniper on the roof, I put an arrow in him while the other guys were preoccupied with the tiger. The last guy took out the tiger and then hung around the safehouse. I threw a rock to lure him behind the safehouse, then put an arrow in him too.

When I tried to loot that last guy's body, the vending machine interface came up instead ???? I cancelled out and tried to loot the body again, and again the vending machine interface came up. Turned out the vending machine was just the other side of the wall from the dead pirate and I was interacting with it from outside the safehouse. There's a gap in the wall and you can see the pulsating back of the machine through it.

But later when I tried to do that I couldn't. Must have been something to do with the proximity of the pirate's body to the machine (he was half-propped up against the wall right below the machine).

Sometime later and up for a lark, I left a mine in the middle of the road near the radio tower that's closest to Earnhart's place, climbed up the tower and waited for a car to come along. A bloody crab set the mine off instead. I know it was a crab because the "press esc for crab info" message came up when the mine went off :-()

I'm not very good with the bow, and I think the arrows also don't go as far as in real life, or am I wrong?
Title: Re: FC3: Funny moments

lol @ crab

Nexor, those arrows go pretty damn far. In the vanilla game I could match a sniper rifle with them and probably shoot arrows even farther than a sniper rifle would hit. In real life it depends on many things but at least on the type of bow (and the power of the bow string) and the angle at which you shoot (ballistic at 45° would be farthest but hell, try to hit something with a ballistic shot like that).

Title: Re: FC3: Funny moments

Buy the Marksman sight for it, it makes all the difference. Then it's just a question of practice :) Those two red dots that come with the bow's ordinary sight are pretty much useless.

I've found that I can shoot explosive arrows further than anything else in the game, further even than the regular arrows. From the top of the radio tower near the Dry Palm Storage outpost on the south island, I can land the explosive arrows right in the outpost (I can even get that sniper on the high platform), but can't snipe the mercs with any sort of sniper rifle from there - they're out of range. Can't reach them with ordinary arrows either.

All arrows can actually travel a bit further than the maximum range indicated on the Marksman sight, you just need to aim a bit higher than the maximum range dot (which I think is 200m).
Title: Re: FC3: Funny moments
Post by: mandru on October 02, 2013, 08:54:07 PM
I've found that there are situations especially in close up speed firing of the bow where aim improves if I don't use the right mouse button when sighting and depend on the reticule(?) markings in the center of the screen to glow red to show when I've got a bead on my temporarily live target.  Non-live objects aren't tracked when you aim at them.

That method's not as good for setting off an explosive barrel at long range but has its advantages for me since the bow isn't my first choice of weapon.

I've just spent a couple of hours in the North island, wandering around taking the outposts as well as collecting relics, lost letters, ect. Something weird just happened to me while I was doing a wanted dead mission in the southeast area, near the river. I approached the target but got spotted by the molotov guys, they threw molotovs at me, I had to retreat, and ran across the river. Then all of a sudden 2 Rakyats showed up, standing behind those motove guys a short distance and to my surprise, those guys didn't shoot the pirates, instead they shot at me! And those pirates were just staring at me, didn't realize that there were 2 Rakyats standing right behind them :o

fragger, even if you turned Rakyat pussies by shooting at them, the pirates would still attack them and you, and respectively those Rakyat would attack the pirates and you. What I've observed so far is the nearest enemy gets attacked first (could be an animal in the mix, too). So I think durian found a glitch  :)

Or it was his aftershave.

Art,  :-D

fragger, I don't think I accidentally shot Rakyats. The Molotov guys were persuing me, I was just running away then those Rakyats came out of nowhere and shot at me. After a few minutes, the pirates noticed those Rakyats were behind them and they started shooting another. Result: all of them were dead except 1 Molotov guy and needless to say I pumped loads of leads into the winner's skull  ;D

nexor, not only does their driving suck, their shooting skill's also lousy. At least on one occasion, while some dingos were attacking me, they came to my rescue  by shooting at me  ;D Bastards

Interesting.  I do know that I've had Rakyat completely out of the blue flip and come after me for no apparent reason because of some game glitch.  Sometimes for something as stupid as a car full of the civilian native islanders driving past a group of Rakyat runs over one of them and the surviving Rakyat open fire and start chasing after them as well as including me in their widely cast net.  The real game weirdness in that example being that when the natives realize they are in trouble and being hunted they have a habit of stopping their auto so they can bail out to run away on foot instead of simply gunning the engine and aiming at the horizon.

I know I've had times where I've been out on the ocean in one of the gun mounted rafts and have identified (at distance) the occupants on an approaching raft as wearing the Rakyat blue but when they gotten closer watched as their outfits resolve to the pirate red but it sounds like the Rakyat that came after durian were much closer so it probably wasn't a similar distance based misidentification.  :-\\

All  I love reading you guys' comments, great entertainment :-()

Yep, Rakyat shooting is indeed lousy. I've watched them try to put rounds into those targets on poles that they seem to like shooting at and I've never yet seen one of them hit any. Sometimes I'll hear one of them say something like, "Pretend you're having sex with your wife and try to get it into the hole". If their sexual prowess matches their shooting ability, then Hoyt won't have to worry about going to the trouble of exterminating them.

mandru, I know what you mean about those colour-shifting boat drivers. They can look blue from a distance but then morph into reds when they get close. There's been times when I've gotten complacent by thinking I have blue-shirted allies covering my back only to have red-shirted devils pump bullets into it instead.

Funny how the Rakyat will go after anyone with the temerity to run over one of their own, be it you, pirates or civvies, yet they don't react when the runner-overer is another Rakyat. It seems it's OK with them if it's one of the bros who does a tyre job on a mate ::) Maybe it's a point of honour with them ("Hey brother, see these tread marks on my chest? It was Tamati himself who put them there, so show me some respect!")

Was there a dead pirate or crock in the water where the vulture landed?  The landing physics for the birds in FC3 are what could be called a little less than polished.  I know that they will sometimes come to a dead stop maybe 15 or 20 feet in the air and drop straight down on something they want to pick at.

It's possible he detected a potential meal and drowned himself getting to it.

Your mention of vultures reminded me of an odd occurrence I experienced this last week.  I was zooming along in one of the jeeps and as I broached the top of a short rise to where the road leveled out again something (a dark body) slammed right into my windshield shattering it.  I was so startled me that after a moments stunned hesitation I made a hard breaking turn around to go back to find out what I'd hit.

As I was approaching the place in question I got my answer when a second vulture smacked straight into the window.  :o

I guess the sky was just a bit lower in that area.  ;)

I think there is always a crocodile lurking in the water nearby. Yeah maybe he wanted to "land" although it looked more like a stone trying to land on the water.

Well, as far as I'm aware, I'm the first one here to get killed by a goat ????

I was standing right at the edge of a cliff when a bunch of goats being chased by dogs ran into me and knocked me off.

After I respawned I went on a little goat hunt >:D

I wasn't quick enough to get a screenie of this, unfortunately.

I heard a Rakyat on the other side of a grassy slope yell, "Watch out! Leopard!" followed by much frantic shooting, roaring and screaming. I couldn't see any of it, but then I heard an explosion (dunno what it was) and saw the leopard go flying up into the air :-() First time I've seen an explosive-lofted animal in the game  Usually they just fall over when they're blown up.

You spotted a flying leopard?

The build up scenario leading up to and including the flying part of is pretty funny but if and when that sort of thing happens to a leopard...

Spoiler

They're usually spotted.  :-D

I agree completely with your observation that when an animal is killed by an explosion "they just fall over".

>:D  >:D  >:D

But if an animal is already lying dead when a well placed explosion occurs near them they fly quite well.  Earlier this evening I was messing around in that large grassy meadow N.E. of the sewage treatment plant on the N. Isle (where you save Ollie).  My (sadly unachieved) goal was to launch a tapir or the occasional tiger corpse across the river to the far side using C-4 charges and landmines for lift.  :)

I don't think I've ever seen a Rakyat warrior throw a grenade.  If this all happened in the absence of pirates or privateers (you would have heard "You fight without honor" as part of the screaming) it really does leave a point to ponder as to what it could have been that caused the explosion.  ????

lol mandru, that spoiler of yours was spot on

Problems thinking up explosions? You guys do remember their driving skills, don't you?  :-()

  @ mandru's spoiler

It might have been one of those red exploding barrels, there's a few places on the map where one of those will just be lying around by itself for no apparent reason. Maybe the leopard was already dying right next to one when a Rakyat set it off.

Not exactly a funny moment but when a jet ski is shot from a distance with an RPG I find it amusing that first there's the explosion from the RPG round blowing the jet ski out of the water and up into the air.  Then once the jet ski has achieved some good lift it explodes in a second burst of flame.

It's always struck me as odd that there are jet skis scattered all around in the game but we never get to see any of the militia or locals zipping around on them.  ????

Believe me, I'd love to drop an RPG round on a pirate riding one of those water skimming Molotov cocktails.  >:D

You never see the pirates riding the quad bikes or driving the buggies either ????

Also they never use the smaller passenger cars the non-warrior islanders sometimes drive nor the big canopied or flatbed trucks scattered around for that matter.

At least not that I can think of off the top of my head.

How funny it would be if pirates or rakyat would conquer you for those vehicles... and who knows for achieving certain goals like taking over guardposts, catching wildlife, gather loot etc. Wouldn't that make the game even more enjoyable... :)

Oh boy, I'm starting to dream of a Far Cry 4  ^-^

A funny situation that is easily reproducible uses the commonly encountered two privateers and a jeep that is broken down and smoking in the roadway.

One of the privateers is at the back and side of the jeep while the other is fussing around at the front.  Neither is paying too much attention to the other which makes it easy to head shot the one at the back unnoticed.  Then by creeping around a bit for a clear shot for the one in the front I've noticed that by waiting for him to raise the hood and lean in over the engine before giving him the same treatment as his partner (the silenced Signature Bushman is excellent for this operation) the instant he receives the head shot the jeep reverts to its hood closed appearance giving the impression that it has slammed shut on his head.

He of course falls to the ground with his head still attached but the reaction of the hood snapping closed is amusing.  :-D

This isn't really a funny thing, just something I haven't come across before despite having played FC3 for well over a year.

I came across a civvie wandering around near a shack. As I approached he said, "I've lost something. Can you help me find it?"

After looking around for a bit I found a glowing book on the ground. I picked it up, went back to the guy, interacted with him and he gave me fifty bucks.

I've never seen that before ????

happened to me only once, indeed a rare event. It's something the type of "can you fix my car?" (which I sometimes do if I have a torch and if I do, I usually I take the reward, kill them, and take their ride, too.  >:D The alternative would be chucking a pack of C4 at it, blow it up, and say, "sorry, can't be fixed."  :-() )

I encountered the lost book guy up a bit from the beach very near Pirate Cove after completing the game the first time.  I've gone back and searched that area as I've completed the game on my other two game profiles but have never been able to locate him again.

It's always left me wondering if there are any other random missions like that one but I've not been able to find any in all my rambling about within the game and I've not hit on any encouraging leads in this direction searching online.  I've not even been able to find any mention of this lost book mission while I've been running searches.
