Title: Mod index
Post by: PZ on April 18, 2010, 07:29:00 PM
Here are a few mods that look interesting on the JC2 mod site:
*Note: because of the heavy usage, the site periodically experiences problems.

First person driving view for land vehicles (http://www.justcause2mods.com/index.php/mods/other/Gameplay/First-Person---Land-Vehicles-v2.1/) update 2.1, link corrected / Art
High definition cloud improvements (http://www.justcause2mods.com/index.php/mods/Map/Textures/HD-Improved-Clouds/)

One creative JC2 aficionado created what he thinks is a mimic of the FC2 "mercenaries" (more like the buddies) as a skin for Rico (http://www.justcause2mods.com/index.php/mods/func-startdown/145/)

Multi-Target Rocket Launcher - no DLC required

EDIT: the mod author increased the number of simultaneous targets to 20

This one looks cool - turns the regular rocket launcher into a targeting system like the new DLC has but the new DLC is not required!

Versions for the xBox and PC are available.

I think that I'll try it just so I can get a cheaper multi-lock launcher - the one from the DLC is $50,000!

DLC Thruster - Unlimited Burn Time/Fuel

EDIT: the mod author created a player.bin option that allows you to use the thruster chute as the default chute in the game - no more purchasing if you wish it to be so.

Although posted in the videos, I wanted to add this mod to the index - This is a fantastic mod that reduces the need to fly aircraft (unless you want to).  It gives an entirely new dimension to travel around Panau

Thruster mod (http://www.justcause2mods.com/index.php/mods/other/Gameplay/Super-Para-Thruster/)
Edit: ^ link above doesn't seem to w@&k (anymore) so here's the actual one (2014)
http://www.justcause2mods.com/mods/func-startdown/338/ (http://www.justcause2mods.com/mods/func-startdown/338/)

A neat aside, the author of the mod (Fox on www.justcause2mods.com (http://www.justcause2mods.com)) saw my short video capture and liked it enough to use it in his mod post; I just added it this morning and have 108 views so far  :-X

Bolo Patch

This is a program that works like a trainer - full health, unlimited ammo, unbreakable wire, multiple wires.

PZ, you mentioned a black market mod, which one did you use?
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: PZ on May 31, 2010, 11:08:41 AM
Although I can't recall the exact name, I used the one that is advertised as the most complete black market mod.  All vehicles, weapons, etc.

One caution though, one of the mods I'm using prevents me from panning the map when I'm in the extraction mode.  It's not that big a deal because I can zoom properly, but it is a small factor nonetheless.

Thanks. So far, I managed without any mod/DLC just nicely, but I do like the BOLOmod (kind of a trainer).

Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on May 31, 2010, 03:08:51 PM
I use the grapple too much to move/climb, which you cannot use when choosing multiple wires. Plus, multiple wires stay attached... creating a weird cobweb across the area... but the strong wire became essential for most of the stuff I enjoy doing, especially nailing choppers and jeeps to the ground  ;D
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: PZ on June 01, 2010, 11:36:27 AM
I had a good laugh using the grapple while I was stunt riding on a vehicle one of my Reaper friends was driving.  As soon as the govmen vehicles approached - strong wire them to another vehicle, the ground, etc. - great fun watching their vehicle spin like a top.  ;D

I just installed the noCAC (http://www.justcause2mods.com/index.php/mods/other/Gameplay/NoCAC/) mod.

QuoteDescription:    NoCAC = No Camera Auto Centering

This mod disables the auto centering of the camera for boats, cars, motorcycles and planes in Just Cause 2.

    Installation instructions:

    1. Make a folder in \Steam\SteamApps\common\just cause 2\ and call it Dropzone

    2. Unzip the file in the Dropzone folder

    3. Start game. Enjoy.
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on June 22, 2010, 03:15:30 AM
Tested the noCAC with cars. What it does is keep the camera position you chose and after turning around your vehicle, it will resume your camera position.

Example: I chose an angle which gave me a farther view (higher above the car) then I turned a corner. The camera followed the movement of the car and settled again on the high position I previously assigned it to. Now I can keep an angle and observe the environment when parked or whenever I like to use a different angle :)
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on June 22, 2010, 03:55:13 AM
Works nicely with planes, too. Choppers of course can't make use of it since you steer them with the same movements you'd controll the camera with.
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on June 22, 2010, 03:22:07 PM
Having played several hours using that mod, I can't imagine to play without it. Apart from any reason you might have to use a freely adjustable camera view, there are two points I think are worth mentioning.

1) Pro: When you drive a vehicle with a rather high turret (those yellow facmen buggies) you can now look over it rather than having to guess where you go.

2) Con: When racing (no matter if during free roam or challenge) it may be a little distracting having to cope with a camera that actually always points or tries to point in the same direction you assigned it to. The default camera would follow your view when you (perhaps accidently) do a powerslide 180° turn and you'd be looking in the new direction. It so happened to me that I did that with the mod on, and I was looking at the rear side of my car. Hence I needed to re-adjust the view. Also, there is no auto-centring any more that we were so used to. That and other events make you quite constantly re-adjust your view, but hell, it's still worlds apart from what it used to be, the freedom you've got with it is worth those little adjustments :)

How the heck do I install these mods, I can´t find the JC2 folder under Steam.
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on June 30, 2010, 04:20:11 AM
Hmm, it worked fine like this:

"Make a folder in \Steam\SteamApps\common\just cause 2\ and call it Dropzone"

If you still can't find it, you're probably generally looking in the wrong user profile of windows. Check if it is a public or "deadman's" user folder. I'm sure you'll find it :)

Faction Helicopters

This one is going to be lots of fun.  For anyone that typically likes to ride with faction guys causing trouble on the roads of Panau, here's a new twist - now you can do so in a helicopter!  Typically whenever you attack a military installation, you do so alone (except for the stronghold missions).  Now you should be able to attack those installations with your faction buddies!

I can't wait to try this one out.

The faction helicopter mod gets better - now the factions can drive the minigun-equipped tanks, and the minigun-equipped boats in addition to the helicopters.  Additionally, you have the option of pitting the factions against one another.  I just visited a town on the desert island and watched as a faction tank rolled in and gunned down the govmen, and while additional government troops responded, the faction helicopters arrived to finish off the lot.

It is a blast watching the factions battle one another as well as the govmen - imagine in FC2 watching the different mercs battling each other.  :-X
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: PZ on September 08, 2010, 09:26:26 AM
Another thing I noticed is that there are lots of faction guys now - it seems as if the odds are a bit more even now.  For instance, in the red Land Rover-style vehicles, you have a couple of faction guys in the front, and up to 4 of them riding in the back - it's great to see them scramble out of the vehicle in a fire fight.

While on another adventure, the faction guy manning the minigun on one of the tanks was killed - I hopped up and took his place.  The faction driver sped down the road and we went gunning through the countryside - man, it is fantastic to have a minigun at your disposal while someone else drives.  We went through towns, and past a military installation where I was able to take out many targets.

It is almost just as much fun watching the battles unfold between the factions and the govmen as it is to become involved in the ruckus.

The last thing I tried is the option to have the factions fight each other as well as with the govmen.  Talk about the chaos of battle - nonstop action.

It is almost like playing a whole new game.

I downloaded the FactionHeli mod (now called "Can't stop the factions") but one file is missing (people already complained), the factions.bin: "This will make the factions attack each other." - any chance you can upload this to our DL section?

And

The BoloPatch apparently doesn't w@&k any more, do you have the same issue?

As you may have guessed, it did w@&k in offline mode, then I decided to install the mod and "return" to steam online.. it is still updating my SniperGhostWarrier (800mb) (at least it's fast, around 680kb/s) and it looks as if it did an update to JC2 as well.

???? >:(( :-\\
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on October 30, 2010, 12:32:03 PM
OK.. "kind of" fixed:

There was a patch for JC2 in July 27, 2010 that caused the Bolo mod to stop functioning. There hasn't been a fix for that Bolo mod since (apparently they ceased supporting it).

There are several mods that help get the Bolo feeling back, for example "no hit reactions and god mode combined" and there is an unlimited ammo mod which comes with two files, either requiring the weapons to be reloaded or without reload (unfortunately, no unlimited grenades..)

I was sick of the permanent engagements and also installed the "peaceful coexistence mod" which is funny, I stopped a police car, threw the driver out, and drove with it to a faction base (one govman was still sitting next to me in that car). I got out, no shooting, and the govman was a bit angry where I dropped him off so he got out and back in, this time behind the wheel, and drove off. I shot him (no reload mod, ammo shows 0 but is infinite) and he blew up. No heat, no panic.. the facboys were disinterested.. LOL, PEACE..

Now I need to find strong ropes and all is good. :)

Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on October 30, 2010, 03:17:47 PM
Correction: The ammo mod causes the weapon to show "0" only after firing up the game for the first time with loaded guns, but I actually ran out... then I "stopped" a police car and the two govmen were so nice as to "resupply" me by dropping an MG each. When I picked up the first, I was loaded with 6,000 rounds.. I thought, well, maybe I can pick up the other gun, too... 12,000 rounds.  ^+-+
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: PZ on October 30, 2010, 03:25:47 PM
Yes, I was disappointed that the bolo patch didn't w@&k - I really liked the strong multiple ropes.  As to the faction heli mod - I can upload the file once I get back to the PC where it is located (not this one) but by then the author might have done it already.

QuoteCivilians will not flee from their vehicles (http://www.justcause2mods.com/index.php/mods/func-startdown/475/)

Spoiler
*v1.1 now includes the same changes for boats.  Some boats will travel in a circle when you jump onto them, there's nothing I can do about that.

Place these files in your Dropzone folder:

aireactions.bin
- Civilian AI will not leave their vehicle due to nearby Bullets or Explosions.

aiteams.blz
- Civilian AI will not leave their vehicle when they spin out due to excessive speed or grappling hooks.
- This will also prevent all Civilian AI attempts to leave vehicles, including those already covered by aireactions.bin.

Both files can be used together safely. In fact, it's probably better (and cleaner) to use them together.

Civilians can still be forced out of a vehicle by the player.

This mod is fully compatible with all other vehicle mods. This mod will not affect military AI.

Basically no one abandons their vehicle. The best part for me is, however, that you can enter a vehicle as a passenger while the original driver stays and will drive you around :) Of course you can throw him out, still  :)
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on November 02, 2010, 02:50:58 PM
For me there are a couple of mods that are a lot of fun if combined. (Edit: forgot the most useful the noCAC mod for free camera angles while driving - always got that one on)

The Join Panau Army mod (makes you "change sides" - now the govmen are your friends while facboys attack you.. and you're even fitted with a govman uniform which is optional but fun, also you may shoot anything without getting heat) combined with What Speed Limit (everything around you moves a little faster, most notably when you're watching a T-junction: cars overshoot a little and get back on the road again, and a lot of screeching all the time) as well as civilians will not flee from their vehicles. Those three combined with combo mod no hit reactions and god mode along with the --almost-- unlimited ammo mod and the grapple hook extension mod grapple range increase) make for a fantastic game experience after you've played through and are looking for something else..

The first three mods mentioned in this post allow me to do what I always liked to to: Have someone drive me around and have fun. Instead of the "join the Panau army" you could use the peaceful coexistence which will cause total peace, so you can drive around or have someone drive you around without fights interfering.

The biggest fun is if you drive with Panau police / govmen. The speed mod increases their speed the most. You need to be a little creative when it comes to "how to" drive with the police: Walk in the middle of the road so a car will stop in front of you (police jeep). Hijack the vehicle (one or both govmen jump out) and drive a couple of feet away and get out again. Walk to the passenger door and be ready: Now the govmen come running back to their jeep or the remaining govman passenger gets out now, one of them will now get back in to drive the car. Once he's got in, hit E to enter as passenger.. now you're driving with the police taxi. :) Since the speedmod speeds him up quite a bit, you may flip in tight corners or slide around corners.. the police jeep doesn't honk its horn to make other vehicles get out the way but they still do.. makes for a jam-free drive..

In case you get into a fight with facboys and your driver survives, he will try to get into the nearest empty vehicle including bikes. So if you can, destroy abandoned vehicles and leave one that you'd like to have him ride.. he will.. including civilian cars.. (you can hijack one and have him drive that) and he'll still be speeding but also honking traffic away (gets on my nerves after a while).

However, it is fun to watch the game from a passenger seat and admire the beautiful landscape while you can sip a coffee or whatever.. change the settings so the HUD is invisible (opaque setting) and it looks like a film.. chillaxing :)

needed to correct a typo: it's peaceful, not pieceful  ^+-+
Title: Re: Mod index
Post by: Art Blade on November 02, 2010, 03:52:36 PM
By the way, if you enter a military post, find a massive military vehicle and drive it around until you meet a govman on a bike. Stop in front of him, get out and hijack his bike. He'll head for your military vehicle (careful, never use vehicles with mounted guns, they'll mount that rather than drive). Now get off that bike and run for the passenger door and hop in.. Hehe..  ;D

Of all the games I've observed AI driving cars, I have to admire how well govmen drive. Apart from T-junctions at high speed, they do drive smoothly and riding with them actually is enjoyable. Those few silly things that may happen are usually things that have nothing to do with actual driving: If some car can't get out of the way to the side because of some crash barriers (guard railing) are too close to the lanes, the govman will try to drive through that car.. well.. but else, very good driving. :)

Remember the race track near Panau City? I grappled onto a race car, hijacked it and went on the bakes like I was about to slam into a metal wall, reversed and got out right next to the ex-driver. Of course he got back in, and I entered as his passenger..  :-() Sometimes there are "drivers" (some lone facguys) lost on the track, mostly near the grid / pit lane (no idea why). If you see one of those, grapple your way back to the pit or the govmen there and fetch an empty car. I did with a police jeep with which I approached said lone driver and got out. As expected, he got into the jeep.. me, as his passenger.. and we raced in a jeep!  ^+-+

Sporty Buggy _V0.2 !UPDATE! (http://www.justcause2mods.com/index.php/mods/Vehicles/Cars/Sporty-Buggy-_V0.2-UPDATE/)

QuoteThe original Dune Buggy is kind of boring so I decided to mod it a little bit

    * MUCH heavier => MUCH more fun with pulling things around
    * Faster.....much faster indeed
    * MUCH more grip for better handling and better hill climbing
    * Invincible
    * Floats on water (although its not controllable once it hits water)
    * Handbrake stops you instantly (its more like an anchor ;) )

This is still a "w@&k-in-progress" so please mind that this isn't an optimal setup. I tried to keep it steerable but also as fast as possible.

Planed: Texture Mod, Weapons, better handling, better transmission, better hill climbing.  But I need YOUR ideas and opinions

Probably the mod that provides the most fun. The tyres seem to have sunken into the tarmac by 1/4 but I ignore that detail. The overall fun is so immense.. it is a weapon of mass destruction if you don't drive carefully  >:D

You'll never want to play without once you've done like 250 on a fast lane and everything that gets in your way gets sent into the sky..  ^+-+ It is hilarious if you "encounter" a tuc-tuc face to face at that speed and your buggy doesn't even shake when that tuc-tuc hits your windshield.. all you do is go "...oh?" and wonder where the heck that thing has gone. Sometimes small bugs (bikes) explode when you drive through them.. you can send massive trucks flying.. go cross country and plough through trees and rocks, climb uphill even if that means 90°.. if you hit water (sea) your car will go on into that same direction at the same speed until it hits land (careful, then, hehe). This is THE exploration car :)

The previous mod needs a weapon.bin so that may interfere with other mods (like the unlimited ammo mod).

This mod however does not, and I played with it for a good while.. you can take out entire locations with one shot from your regular rocket launcher  ^+-+ (careful if you're still playing missions.. govmen use the same weapon!  ;) And stay well away from the massive blast radius which is roughly 100 meters - hehehe  ;D )

That weapon is fun as long as you're protected by whatever god mode.. One funny situation I recall is when I wanted to check if that thing knocks me off my socks when fired at a wall at close range. I shot at a car a few meters away next to a concrete wall. I couldn't see a thing for a couple of seconds. Smoke, dirt, debris and burning parts everywhere around and above me. When I looked behind me, most of the trees were gone and cars rendered smoldering wrecks, as far as maybe 50 meters from where I was standing  ^+-+

No, not yet - too many mods to play with.  I'll eventually get around to this one, but I'm currently experimenting with the FO3 maps in FNV

Well, the installation was simple as pie, and the mod works as described.  However (I can hardly believe it), I actually prefer the 3rd person view!

Video game years are like dog years, it seems :-()

Re: this mod, I'm wondering how you handle grappling and such in 1st person. I haven't yet played this game - it's on hold until I get a new rig together -  but from what I've read and seen here, 3rd person seems to be much better suited to the type of game it is.

You still have the centered on-screen cross hair, so the grapple and all other things w@&k the same as in 3rd person.  Perhaps it is because I am accustomed to 3rd person in the game that I prefer it - don't really know, but I like seeing the full body of Rico (you) doing the acrobatics, etc.

It is the only game I can think of which is great despite of being a TPS, then again I have just been thinking about games that allow you to toggle between FPS and TPS view at any time. If that mod supports a toggle, then it might be worth trying it out :)

Sure, it supports toggle - simply add or remove the mod files from the dropzone folder  ^+-+

omg it takes forever to find all the mods again that I liked. The game wasn't installed on this PC so I had to download it from steam again (thanks to them, I got my savegames back  :-X )

However, I had to register with justcause2mods.com because there is a download limit (probably linked to the IP used while visiting) and then some mods which had not been uploaded to jc2mods but instead to some file sharing services had been removed from those hosts for whatever reasons so.. it takes forever.

I think I'm good now, the mods I posted about which I used to like are now in place again PLUS now that I have all those DLC items, I needed to find mods suitable such as a "free black market" mod -- I needed one that included DLC items, too.

Turns out that for instance the unlimited ammo mod works with default weapons but DLC weapons are still limited to what they were before that mod.. I might stick to at least some default weapons for that matter or I will have to call the black market all the time.. hehe :)

The most fascinating DLC is the parachute with thrusters. I edited PZ's post as the link to the mod wasn't working any more, either. But now.. "This is me!"

Man, it's fun to play with all this stuff installed :-X :) Plus, with this "new" (2013) rig, I can play the game with everything maxed out in the graphics section (even 32x AA) and it's still smooth as silk. Amazing.  ^-^

found a solution for the DLC weapons regarding unlimited ammo:

the BOLO Patch 4.00 for the current game version 1.0.0.2 was released in 2012 and it works :)

Just Cause 2: Island in Chaos

http://www.justcause2mods.com/mods/func-startdown/9355/ (http://www.justcause2mods.com/mods/func-startdown/9355/)

QuoteEnjoy the chaos. Just Cause 2 tries to encourage the player to cause chaos, but with this mod installed it's much more fun to watch everyone else drive past the speed limit, shoot at each other, and crash their planes!

OK, this IS chaos and insanity.  :-D I watched buses skid across the road at perhaps 150mph and crash into a bulk of cars that had already crashed at an intersection and when I turned around, I saw a small plane burning in the road.. whoa  ???

Don't take the author's warnings about how difficult it seems to be to install the mod too seriously. He uploaded a yt vid about how to install it and packed a readme into the zip file.. I can sum it up like this: download, unzip everything into the "dropzone" folder (which you will already have created if you are already interested in this mod) and start the game.

My tip: make a backup of your dropzone folder first and then unpack this mod into your dropzone, overriding everything it wants to override. When you're done playing this mod, delete the dropzone folder (or its content) Then paste the whole backup folder so you're back to where you were before the mod.

I guess most of the files are unique to this mod, in my case it only had to override a player.bin file and some AI-related files.

Well.. the mod's only purpose is to watch everything around you go completely bonkers  :-D

I keep having fun with that island chaos, LOL

The mod contains files that can be deleted for certain effects (I'll sort of quote from the comments about the mod on jc2mods.com)

Quote- To get rid of the god mode, remove the file called "player.bin" from your dropzone folder.

- Remove the file called "factions.bin" from the dropzone folder. This is the file included with the mod that prevents you from getting heat.

- Why is there no police? To make room for the crazy civilians. Delete "factions.bin" to restore the police.

- the file that spawns so many planes and/or changes the pilots AI: Remove the file called "worldsim.bin" from your dropzone folder.

You know, most mods just add something here and change something there, useful stuff or "serious" stuff, but this mod is just pure fun :-X :) Indeed, as the author Mandella644 suggested, try to get into a vehicle as a co-driver and let the AI driver take you places at insane speeds. Sit back and watch planes crash into mountains, mayhem left and right and everywhere around you.. the built-in god mode prevents you from getting killed during your joyride. You'll need to change vehicles every now and then because they really get beaten up pretty good during the trip

Give it a shot, it's worth it, brings the fun back to the game  :-X :)

I was thinking about why I enjoy the mod so much. And the files it overrode. Curiously enough, the files were basically the same this mod used. Like, drivers don't flee their vehicles, god mode.. and even the traffic speed I used to use (didn't install it this time) is back. Also, the last time I played, before re-installing the game, I remember my greatest joy was to call shotgun and have NPCs chauffeur me around the island and just watch the world. Which is what the mod author recommends. Basically, this mod is what I was doing anyway, only this time there's more action, over-the-top action, which keeps making me laugh.. like the motocross bike on a dusty track speeding up so much that the little bump in the road sent him flying right across my screen or a taxi at insane speed that came somersaulting in every which direction, flipping, tumbling, and out of sight.. :)

Yes, Bolo worked well for me for a variety of reasons.  I would like to go back in to JC2, but just have not had more than a few minutes at a time of what I call "my own time" without having to interact with other people.  :'(

actually only one file of the mod is responsible for the road-related traffic chaos, it's aiparams.bin so you can combine that with whatever mod you fancy unless it's using just that file, too.

I found that "worldsim.bin" which not only causes air traffic chaos but also spawns all types of aircraft in the middle of the road a tad too much if you want to get anywhere. :) The rest of the mod is basically god mode and removing you from the AI's hate/like relations as well as AI not panicking when you enter their car, allowing you to sit down as a co-driver. However, with the chaos in place, it is quite a challenge to get a car to stop so you can call shotgun without the car blowing up or running you over  :-()

I fired up JC2 last night and even managed to connect with AB for a short chat before going to bed - it was nice!

It had been so long since I played JC2 to any degree, I had to relearn the controls again, and chose a saved game at about 8% complete (I think).  I can't recall the mods I have installed, but I have a cool outfit, thrusters, all weapons, and most everything is free in the shop.

The game is really fun, and the music plus sheer size of the world keeps me going, but the graphics are a bit dated already (can't believe I said that after extolling the virtues of JC2 graphics some time ago).  However, in comparison to Watch_Dogs, the textures are simply not there.

Last night I was attacking a communications center when I saw tracers headed my way - I thought a chopper was trying to mow me down.  However, I discovered it was a chopper manned by my small brown friends and they were assisting me in eradicating the deviant lifeforms from the center.

Modding the game certainly enhances the replay value

for a quick test, here is the one file you need to create road traffic chaos. put it into the dropzone folder and delete it when you are fed up with it. :)
