To be honest.. patches sometimes mess the game up.
The fixes for SP are quite pointless to me, therefore, I would consider installing it if the "hardcore mode" is effective in SP too.
I've read about it on ubi's and as far as I understood, HC mode was effective for MP only  :(
Anyone knows if its good for SP as well?

cheers

even harder level - - - bring it on ;D

will let you know asap tonight if it kills install or if it all A o.k.

Hardcore is MP only, requested by MP gamers, to my knowledge.
Title: Re: PC Patch released

Thanks... so no patch for me  :(
Don't want to risk having a new bug while trying to fix something doesn't bothers me at all  ;)
Title: Re: PC Patch released

same here. They didn't say a thing about connectivity, so my problem (unable to connect) will remain.
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: DKM2 on June 03, 2009, 11:04:13 AM
I went home for lunch after 12 and fired up the game, no update.
I wonder how this will bust up the MP servers people run,
most use the custom extender (3rd party) and a new interface is going to break it.

I'm not finding any no CD patches for it yet, so I don't see any need considering what they fixed in SP.

actually did re-start on pc, then disc clean up followed by defrag, another system restart and game still runs without disc.

Installed is the game, intel missions, DLC pack, patch 1.02 and 1.03. and thats it, no changes / cheats on profile.
my game system is NOT connected to the net incase that makes a difference to SP games ?

okay, Since installing the patch, I no longer need the DVD in the drive! SP or MP.     :-X

I take back what I said above, I CAN play it without the DVD in, since the new patch. I have Vista and didn't have my shortcut setup right. :-[

cool...

Hacko, is there a new option "hardcore" for SP, regarding difficulty level? My information is that it is only for MP.
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: RedRaven on June 03, 2009, 07:46:00 PM
hardcore is already in SP, still the same 4 options
(easy / normal / hardcore / infamous)

Yeah... I think Art meant the "Hardcore Mode" with the features of the new patch, like the new damage model where hits do more damage.
It works for MP only, as far as I (and Art) know.
I was hoping it could do the same for SP, but apparently no  :(
Title: Re: PC Patch released

JRD is right, I did mean the mode. They forgot the SP... isn't it sad...  :(
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: Hacko on June 03, 2009, 09:24:50 PM
As everyone said above, Hardcore mode is only for MP, but alot of peeps were asking for it on the other boards, so I guess they got what THEY want. Where are the SP improvements? ;)
Title: Re: PC Patch released

Just for your information, we have an old topic in the "questions" board that contains a lot of questions regarding upgrading from patch 1.01 to 1.02, for example save games compatibility.

The topic is this one here (http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=471.msg5263#msg5263) ("patches")

Maybe some of them are interesting regarding the new patch 1.03 :)

What they SHOULD do is come out with a Hardcore Mode that is like Diablo 2 - where if you die, you're dead for good and have to start over.

THAT would be great!   8)

steady on there foggy-leg !
infamous is pretty hard, alot harder than hardcore.
the tutorial is always pretty easy to do, but got wasted 3 times doin it ! when more than 2 mercs are shooting at you from at least 2 different angles its not so easy to shoot back and hit, and use syrettes to keep alive (only get 3).

But thats why am loving it, making me re-think how to win each conflict (and still need to keep a finger close to the quick save button)

Oh, I'm well aware of how difficult Infamous is, and the planning involved to survive each mission (especially on PS3, where there are no quicksaves).  The second half on Infamous, where you have no "stealth"ability, is extremely difficult - I have no clue how the mortar launchers are spotting me from so far away, through dense foliage.

I was just reminiscing about the adrenaline rush I'd get in Diablo 2, when a Level 80+ character has their life bulb reduced to a sliver, knowing you have to start all over again at Level 1....  :o
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: RedRaven on June 04, 2009, 09:22:13 AM
reckon all the mercs must have "networked senses" so if 1 sees you thats it, they all know where you are

(they are actually Terminators not mercs ???
or they will come lookin for me!)

Ok, I used the Launcher so I would get an autopatch. Got it.

I quit the game, removed the CD and fired up the game using the shortcut to farcry2.exe - works without CD.

odd that some of us can play without disc whilst others cant, only thing i can think of is its conected to the registry.
but have no idea what so ever on how to tackle and fix it, (soz)

I just checked, here it doesn't matter if I start the game using the launcher or a shortcut to farcry2.exe, I don't need the CD. Got my update via launcher.

The ones who still need the CD, which way did you get the patch (auto-patch via launcher or file download)?

Because that's the only difference I can think of.

I did the file download, and then used a shortcut with the no intro command and it works fine. At least the one time I tried it, it worked fine, no disc check.

Haven't tried the trainer yet though, has anyone tried the 1.02 trainer with 1.03 game yet?
Title: Re: PC Patch released

Anyone know if you can uninstall the patch?  Maybe a patch reinstall would w@&k for me but once it is installed the first time, the patch installer won't do it again - says that the patch has already been applied.
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: DKM2 on June 05, 2009, 09:14:42 AM
I think you'd have to uninstall the game and reinstall from the disc.
and manually install up to the version you want.
Then you'd just have to put up with the update message (cancel) every time you play.

btw, you'd want to do this, why?
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: PZ on June 05, 2009, 10:05:05 AM
So that I need not have the CD in the drive - I might just look for the executable that bypasses the CD to be done with it.
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: Hacko on June 05, 2009, 11:43:45 AM
Hey PZ,

I too had trouble with my shortcut looking for the cd after the patch. But I use this shortcut and it doesn't ask for the cd, so use the main executable file for your shortcut.

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Far Cry 2\bin\farcry2.exe

This is in Vista, but I believe XP should be the same. :-X
Also, if you use Vista, make sure you run it as administrator.
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: PZ on June 05, 2009, 11:52:18 AM
Thanks Hacko - I didn't event remember to think that the shortcut might be using a working directory that is on the CD - I'll try it the next time I get on.

... appreciate the advice  :-X
Title: Re: PC Patch released
Post by: RedRaven on June 06, 2009, 06:48:20 AM
any one unsure on installing patches I'd advise creating a System Restore Point first, that way you can go back to pre-instal (otherwise its uninstall of game to get rid of them)
that also gives you chance to see if it will give you No-CD ability, i downloaded file from Address someone put up on this forum and all worked fine for me (my game system is not on net) . hope that saves at least some one a bit of stress and grief.

As for the patch I'm not very happy with it.  Sure it sends you back to the lobby after game if you are in a dedicated server.  Sure it lets you have a chance to save the map after the game.  BUT......The game STILL alt-tabs itself randomly, PB is all messed up now and people that never used to get PBkicked are getting kicked for reasons they've never seen before
