thanks, D  :-D

I'm not sure they will if they've learned from the past. Players who don't want to cheat simply won't even if they could but those who want will be very disappointed and perhaps even angry if those glitches get "fixed." It is way more important to fix game-breaking issues and other stuff that does not w@&k properly. Let's wait and see but indeed, better be quick about exploiting those glitches because you never know  :-D
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: durian on September 26, 2013, 01:39:52 PM
Agree with what you said Art. I think glitches like this needn't be fixed, instead fix those game breaking ones like vanishing cars glitch many people have encountered.
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on September 26, 2013, 02:07:48 PM
yep, I heard about that one, too. Apparently only the original garages with which you start out are the ones that do w@&k as expected.

With regards to "fixing" funny and useful glitches, Ubishit ( :-() ) immediately springs to mind, and Atari. The angry and annoyed comments just won't cease to pop up which isn't exactly helping their reputation so I very much hope Rockstar gets it into their heads not to mess with their loyal customers  :)

Here a tip for an early mission called "CHOP" (no spoiler)

When you (as Franklin) and Lamar and Chop (the dog) are on a mission to kidnap D, you'll chase D together with your dog AND have the opportunity to switch between Franklin's and Chop's view.

Now the tip: once Chop gets distracted by another dog.. don't forget to switch to Chop's view until you know why I recommended it

Thank you :)

Maybe it's not too late.

You can replay missions from the pause menu although I don't know whether or not side missions are among them. Just check for "Chop" as a mission  :)

Just some tips regarding heists and Lester's assassination missions

First, the heists:

Usually a heist requires additional crew members which you can choose from a selection on the planning board, like drivers, shooters and hackers. If they survive, they'll gain 25% experience which makes them more valuable for the next heist while their cut will remain the same: They will be paid in % of the money you get from a heist. Cheap people will cost something like 4 or 7 percent, and they are likely to die before the heist is over. That isn't good as you will still have to pay them (money goes to their families) but the next time you'll have to hire a new crew member without experience or hire an expensive member who will take around 15%. If you take expensive members, obviously your own cut will be smaller but the likelihood that your heist will be a success is almost guaranteed.

If you do some side missions rather than strictly following the main mission (or somehow get some time in between is the goal) it is likely that some of the people you met during the main missions will call you and be available for heists from then on, so you'll have more people to choose from. They're not the best but apparently they will survive which makes them 25% better for the next heist and quite cheap regarding their cut.

People I know will call you:
Spoiler
The computer nerd from Michael's lifeinvader mission and "Chef," the meth cooker from Trevor's Chinese business partner mission

What I don't know: I'd try to manually save the game before starting the heist preparation and again a separate save before going on the actual heist. The reason: Once you completed a heist mission, they will be re-playable from the pause menu without affecting the game progress. In other words, if you screwed up (lost a crew member) you can't undo it. Unless you can go back to a save game and actually start from there (before the heist) which should give you the opportunity to either try with the same crew until you succeed or choose different crew members and try again with those.

Second, Lester's assassination missions

The first of those is for Michael (lifeinvader mission, right after the first meeting with Lester and I believe this one is inevitable, a main story mission) but the rest are side missions for Franklin.

Since your big money comes from heists, it is advisable to wait until after at least one or more heists and not to do any of Lester's assassination missions too early (available to Franklin) because Lester always gives you an investment hint which you should consider with a lot of money. So, if you invest a few hundred bucks early in the game.. better, a few hundred thousand bucks after a few heists :) Those assassinations will always have a massive impact on the stock exchange so if you invest a large sum.. it will generate at least for Franklin a lot of extra money ;) So, best pay attention to what Lester tells you when giving you a mission and don't forget to save the game in case you screw up with your investment :)

Wow, Art, you're posting as if you are already a veteran player of the game - I sure do hope Rockstar comes out with the PC version.  I will most definitely get it because I have way more free time on my PC than I do on the console.

I've spent the last two weeks watching all kinds of GTAV vids, mostly complete playthroughs. Of course I picked up a thing or two due to different playing styles and choices since the missions are not exactly linear or scripted. What you read above is what I found out while watching the same missions four times or more but with different settings. :) Additionally I happened to watch what people did in between missions. So indeed.. in a way, it is veteran.

Good tips indeed!!! :-X :)

The Heist thing, with experienced guys after some 'staying alive' on the previous performed missions, reminds me of your friends in TLAD DLC. There you had your own biker gang and they also gained sort of experience progress while staying alive. The good thing is that they never demanded any cut 8)

Saw this on the Internet today.....

Many gamers have been disappointed and shocked to find that upon logging on to GTA Online, their character is broke, homeless, awol or all of the above ... But Rockstar warns: Don't Create a New Character!

According to IGN, the company released updated advice for those who have missing characters: return to story mode, re-enter GTA Online through the Pause menu when the Rockstar Cloud Servers are working, and continue trying to access the servers even if you are given a message saying they are unavailable.

If you continue online and have saving disabled, your character might be overwritten.

IGN quotes their statement: "If you have previously created a character but see an empty character selection screen when entering GTA Online, please back out to GTAV Story Mode and try re-entering GTA Online through the pause menu (repeat or wait until Rockstar cloud servers are back up). Do not create a new character in the empty slot where your character should be.

"If you receive the message 'The Rockstar Cloud Servers Are Unavailable', please return to GTAV Story Mode and follow the steps above.  Please do not press 'Retry' on the message and do not proceed online with saving disabled, as this may lead to overwriting your existing character."

Good info, nex; thanks for posting.  On a related note, my son purchased the game specifically to go online, but he was disappointed in how poorly the online gaming experience went for him.  He's waiting until the service improves.

Good tip Nex!!

I'm sure Rockstar will solve all online issues. I can imagine how huge the quest is to get this game running smoothly. And the were so polite to warn in advance that they weren't prepared for the quantity of players yet.
My experience with GTA online, for GTA IV PC, was always excellent performance. The whole phenomena called "lagging" was completely new to me when I tried other games after my GTA experience. In fact, until now, no game ran as smooth online as GTA IV. The problem though, was the amount of cheaters. But if you put that aside, the performance was excellent, and still is. :)

here a general tip which worked for me in previous GTA games and I was pleasantly surprised when I watched someone else do it in GTAV, too:

When something like a helicopter is after you, or cars with gunmen, and you're trying frantically to escape without any luck, change of plans. No more defensive or evasive driving, take action.

Get out of your car, stand still, and with that stable position, aim and shoot to kill :-D Particularly nice if you have a rocket launcher or something that packs a punch. Apparently most game situations aren't made for this and you get a proper chance to finish that BS  :-()
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: PZ on October 09, 2013, 03:10:28 PM
Cool; I've been chased by helicopters before, and have hidden under structures until they go away
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on October 09, 2013, 03:45:04 PM
you could use that position of yours under that structure to get out of the car and whip out a massive gun to take out the pilot -- you don't have to blow up the chopper to get rid of it :)

Good advice Art, completely agree with the "take action" part in that strategy >:D >:D

Another advice; in GTA San Andreas a shotgun does major damage to helicopters. Just 4 or 5 rounds and it will go down (if it is close, which happens most of the time) so don't be surprised if it works well in GTA V as well ;)

The bridge in that video, I mean the one you see before you start the video, is the exact same bridge as in San Andreas between the North of San Fierro and Bayside, a small marina village in Tierra Robada. I recognize the shape, colour and construction details of the pillars as well as the layer. Is that same bridge represented in GTA V?
That would make me curious for the actual place in real California where that bridge is... Any clues? ????

please correct me if I'm wrong, I had immediately one name and image pop up in my mind, I think it is..
Spoiler
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate strait, the mile-wide three mile long channel between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure links the U.S. city of San Francisco, on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula, to Marin County. It is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco, California, and the United States.

I'm with Art, it's definitely the iconic Golden Gate  :) When people talk about SF, one of the first things comes to their minds is the GG
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Binnatics on October 15, 2013, 02:36:26 PM
Agreed. That must be the one. But can it be found in GTA V? That seems impossible since it's a San Francisco Statue and not a LA one.
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: PZ on October 15, 2013, 06:59:42 PM
No bridge like that in Los Angeles - I'd go for Golden Gate as well
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: fragger on October 16, 2013, 03:15:04 AM
That is indeed the Golden Gate. I'd recognise it anywhere and I've never even been there. Put it down to having watched The Streets Of San Francisco many times as a kid - the GG Bridge is the first thing you see in the show's title sequence :-D Dunno what it's doing in L.A. - it must have washed down the coast :-()

Some call San Francisco "Sydney's sister city". Why I don't know, they're nothing like one another...
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on October 16, 2013, 12:34:17 PM
I think because I used to watch The Streets Of San Francisco many times as a kid, too, it is why I immediately had that image and name popping up in my mind. I'm kind of conditioned, almost like Pavlov's dogs, only I don't start to drool when I see that bridge  :-D
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks

Still, my question remains unanswered:

Quote from: Binnatics on October 15, 2013, 01:53:19 PM
...Is that same bridge represented in GTA V?...

Well, I thought let's google for screens of GTA V bridges, and I could only find this one here, that comes the closest:
[smg id=6396]

What I was already thinking, the bridge at the start-screen of that video is probably just there because the creator likes it, uh, drools over it :-()

Funny side note when you google "bridges GTA V" (https://www.google.nl/search?q=bridge+gta+v&client=firefox-a&hs=XuD&rls=org.mozilla:nl:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=huxeUsngBO6p0AX2tYC4CA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=962&dpr=1) you see a nice collection of real bridges and in-game equivalents from both GTA San Andreas and GTA V ^-^

One minor tip regarding the mission "I fought the law.."

I've watched that mission five times already. Every time a different player. Every time one traffic accident at the same spot. Maybe you can avoid it :)

Spoiler
it's the mission that involves a high speed race on a highway; Franklin is chasing two sports cars while Michael and Trevor are playing cops who are waiting for the three cars to pass in order to pursue them for speeding and subsequently steal the two leading cars. Before Franklin calls Michael and Trevor to inform them that they're about to pass their location, that accident has always happened.

So.. I found a milestone that will help you determine when it's going to happen to you. After you started the race, about three minutes into the race you will see: at night -- to your right hand side way ahead of you a lot of street lamp lights close to one another, like a string of pearls, that belong to some kind of refinery -- at daytime and night time: there are also a lot of huge tall silos probably 30ft or taller, lined up alongside the highway, well visible IF you know what you're looking for.

Usually the orange car is in the lead, the second blue car is in front of you and before you reach those silos (they will be very close already, tall, well visible to your right, the blue car will brake hard and you will bump into it. It is almost unavoidable.

Just try NOT to be closely behind the blue car when you see the silos, try the left lane or slow down a little, just try to avoid the braking blue car ahead of you.

Would be fun to trick the game by not colliding with it  :)

watch 10:20 onwards, after passing the white-lit truck on the left, you'll see those lamps and then the silos and then BANG...  :)

The bottom line is that Rockstar is interested in their "bottom line".  It does not matter what the public opinion is regarding a PC release - if Rockstar sees profit, they will release it, if they do not then there will not be a release.

That's true, PZ.

But geez, talk about being considered guilty by association! I've never bought a pirated game in my life, just as I have never stolen anything in my life, and I'd like to meet some of those petitioners and ask them to explain to me why a working, law-abiding, tax-paying citizen like myself has to be excluded from enjoying a particular game simply because I own a PC and therefore need to be "taught a lesson".

It's the petitioners who need to be taught a lesson - about the narrow-mindedness of indiscriminate condemnation of groups based on an "us vs. them" attitude. We all know what the ultimate expression of that is.

Can 4,600 people be wrong? Why, yes, they can ::)

the funny thing is, they ask for something that has been in place all the time which is the reason why others try to change it. And I admire the timing, too. 4.6k vs 600+k is enthusiastic.

Another tip which I just picked up

"Don't spend money on cars you don't own." (referring to chop shops, tuning random cars)

The guy said he lost a couple of fully pimped-out cars and was wondering what happened. If you park your (random) car anywhere or drive to a mission in them and then have to change vehicles and so on, your car will be towed to the impound lot but won't stay there forever.. if you miss fetching it, it will be gone (and the money spent on tuning it).

I also heard a couple of times that saving cars in your garages won't always w@&k, so.. the only cars that will always stay with you and be spawned after a mission so you can drive away in them or get spawned at your house are the characters' own special cars. Pimp them instead :) Might save you quite some money.

also, that impound lot apparently only saves the last two cars that you.. what, used? lost? gave up when going on a mission? drove before getting into another car?

That is something worth investigating. I'd get a somehow good car like the Adder, a Bugatti Veyron lookalike which you can find when exiting Michael's house and drive straight downhill past the massive horse statue, on the right hand side in the parking lane. If it isn't there, drive away and return until it shows up which it eventually will. Now the hard part.. abandon it and use just ONE more car to drive to the impound lot and check whether or not your Adder is there.. experiment with that to find out how that impound lot works. If actually changing cars already puts it there, then changing cars isn't fun any more in case you were using a tuned or rare car.

Please let me know what you find out if you are willing to test it :)

By the way, you can buy a garage somewhat in the centre of the city (if I remember correctly, for $30,000) that will store cars and reward cars. That garage seems to be safe.

Would like to investigate that impound lot, and find the idea of the game towing your abandoned cars away to an impound very cool :) I can imagine you are in a situation where you want to be sure not to lose your car when confronted with an unexpected situation, and this is certainly a cool feature to count with ^-^

I am also very interested in how unsafe or unstable these garages are. Usually they become unstable when stacked with too many vehicles. This garage problem seems to be an ever returning bug in the GTA series. I remember back in GTA III I was already trying to store more than the maximum of 2 (or 3) cars in a garage, by blocking the hatch or rapidly enter a car and drive it inside before the hatch closes.  8)

Anyway, since in GTA IV you only had parking space on the streets, I'm glad the garages are back ;)

indeed, the parking space outside the house in GTAIV caused me a lot of trouble. The cars never disappeared because of a glitch but by crazy AI drivers that slammed into them pushing them out the parking space and.. gone. I know that because I once looked back and saw a police car and paramedic rush through the street by my house and slam into my parked car which got shifted into the street by that accident. In garages, that is not going to happen to them :)

I just need to post this next tip. Maybe a bit late but you never know, perhaps good for your second time.

The first heist crew you pick can be the foundation of your future heists. Remember my previous tip (http://www.openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=3327.msg64870#msg64870) regarding heists? Well, the goal is to always pick the same members in future heists so it is important that they survive. Bearing that in mind, here are additional tips:

Jewellery Heist: The Crew for the Stealth Approach
including a tip regarding The Bureau Raid Firemen Approach

Spoiler

I watched seven different players do this. Funny, they all chose the stealth approach so I can report my observations and tell you my deduction :)

The Driver.
Eddie Toh is expensive at 14% but he's also responsible for getaway cars and other vehicles which will play a major role in future heists, making things a lot easier. I'd use him if you want to avoid extremely hazardous future missions. However, you can still pick him later but he'll miss out on 25% skill improvement for this job which you might regret..

Karim Denz, 10%. Gets a job done. Only 4% cheaper than the best.. might as well spend those 4% on a real pro.

The Gunman:
Gustavo Mota, again expensive at 14% but.. he is the reason why I post this tip. Take him. The reasons: a) if you choose Norm Richards at 7%, Norm will die. Always has. If you do, he will miss the tunnel entrance and hit the wall, causing him to drop about $1,500,000 worth of loot. If you chose him, at least make sure to pick up his loot or you'll lose $1.5m. I've seen only one player who actually picked it up. b) Now that you know that you might lose $1.5m and that you will lose Norm, you'll see how you'll also lose 25% experience on a gunman. And losing a crew member isn't exactly cool, either, since you will still have to pay his cut to his family, in the worst case out of a pot that he caused to be $1.5m short. And, the next heist.. you'll have to hire a more expensive guy because Norm won't be available any more.. In other words, Norm will cost you dearly, no matter what.

Norm Richards at 7%. Dead man walking. One more thing, but I'm not sure whether it was Norm who croaked during a different heist and I saw someone croak, that's entirely possible:(*) The next time you need a gunman and if you chose Mota for this heist, you might want to choose Norm for the next, but he might die then rather than now. I wouldn't risk it because of the aforementioned reasons. I think Trevor's meth cook "Chef" will step up and fill in for 12% some time soon (not for this heist, though) which will be a good asset like Rickie Lukens but if you already chose Mota, I'd stick with him. 2% difference in cut but at least 25% difference in experience plus Mota is a real pro.

(*)Just checked, it was both Norm Richards and some Daryl Johns, too, if chosen, who croaked during "The Bureau Raid" while Mota survived. :-D Hugh Welsh croaked, too.

The Hacker.
Rickie Lukens. 4%. I hope that you've already received a call from the lifeinvader nerd who will then be available as a potential crew member and he's bloody cheap and his skills are sufficient for the jobs to come. He'll gain 25% experience each time you use him so that guy is a great asset. Things will not run perfectly easy but doable, don't worry. I'd take him because he's the guy who'll improve your own cut by not having to pay 11% of the total sums of any upcoming heists and that will add up nicely.

Paige Harris, 15%, a guaranteed success, she'll give you lots of time to do stuff during your missions and make them easier. Damn expensive, though. You see, if you have chosen Toh and Mota and now her, you'll have to pay 14+14+15=43% of the total cut to your crew.. easy playing but expensive, too.

Christian Feltz, 10%. Can't tell you anything about him except he's only 5% cheaper than the best, Paige, so that's probably why nobody chose him. Maybe give him a shot? I don't think I would :-D

Good luck :)

Quote from: Art Blade on October 24, 2013, 07:23:28 PMalso, that impound lot apparently only saves the last two cars that you.. what, used? lost? gave up when going on a mission? drove before getting into another car?

Apparently only your tuned cars go into the impound lot, looks as if they were the respectively last two cars per playable character. I guess so because I found a vid about getting mission cars; also, if you follow the link at the end of the vid for the updated vid, "2 cars", you'll see it backs it up even more. During the mission go to Los Santos Customs ("chop shop") and buy the cheapest upgrade you can find, finish the mission and drive straight to the impound lot, pay $250 and get your tuned mission car. :)

Need a new addition to your heist crew? A new driver is available.

Taliana Martinez, at your disposal after helping her out (random event). Go to the very north of the map, you'll see yellow to the left (desert) but look to the right, there is a little loop in the road, not far from there to the right. Franklin finds a burning car wreck at night between both lanes, a body next to it and an injured girl in the road -- your future driver. :)

Another new heist crew member, a gunman, can be unlocked (random event) when playing as Michael.

Packie McReary from Dukes, Liberty City, (a GTA IV character) can be found robbing a pharmacy/grocery "Dollar Pills" to the right looking North on Carson Ave, Strawberry, probably only at night. Same distance from the Dollar Pills to the Southeast is a barber shop. Help Packie get away. So obviously he isn't a driver and not a hacker, but he mentions that he can handle himself and asks, "you ever hear of something, a score that needs bodies, would you think of me?" which can only mean that he's a gunman. He'll then be available. :)

I'd like to know the real reason(s) behind that "delay." I understand that they make their living selling for consoles so they push it that way and make the other people who want the game consider buying a console and the game. When nothing much goes any more, then release for the PC with the money they made selling it for consoles, financially it should be completely covered with those sales for console already. Maybe it's got to do with presenting the balance sheet so they can carry over profits to the next year's annual accounts.
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Binnatics on September 07, 2014, 06:32:25 AM
There has always been quite some time between the console release and the PC release. But this time the extra waiting is extremely long. Maybe it has to do with the PS4 and new Xbox release, which may have caused some extra delay. But then again, these next gen consoles hit the shelves last autumn already, so why all the waiting ????
Let's hope all the time is dedicated to a perfect porting job, so that we won't have unnecessary hickups on the PC, like last time. I'd really like the game to w@&k as fluid as can be, with flawless online play and everything, just simple, bugfree pleasure ^-^
Something else that may have caused delay as well, was the massive online play that needed extra servers and maintenance to have things run smoothly.

Whatever, let's just pray it WILL BE RELEASED SOON!!!! :-D

yep.

Oh back on topic:

Random side mission

Make $100,000 by helping a guy (Gray Nicholson) whose bicycle got stolen right in front of you.

Location: Downtown Cab (a business you can buy as Franklin), exit through the front gate, turn the next right, and again the next right so you'll be facing West. across the next intersection on the same road to the right will be that event, so it's almost literally around the corner. The thief on the stolen bike will cross the street to ride across the soccer field to your left. I saw that happen in more than one playthrough video that I watched.

Time: Last time I checked it was on a Wednesday at 7:00AM

Returning that bike will only reward you with a "thank you" but later the next day you'll receive an email from the owner of the bike who will give you shares of his company (Animal Ark) worth $100k.

Don't miss it  :)

Here the same event but different location and time (Saturday 2:10PM)

I probably need to fire up GTAV again - can't remember much of it at this time.  From what I remember, it was much like Watch Dogs, which I occasionally play at this time.

The game I'm most looking forward to is AC5, and secondarily, FC4.  I am really looking forward to JC3, but even the rumors are no earlier than spring 2015

GTA 5 is on top of my list too. Most definitely. On the second spot is The Crew. FC4 is on top of my bargain bin-list. And AC5 will have to wait, too. I'm also looking forward to Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, but I'm afraid I don't have time left for this number 3 on my list 8)

Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks

That is due to one of his random "wake-ups" when a player switches from either Franklin or Michael to Trevor. Trevor can be found waking up on a deserted little isle with five dead bodies spread out on the beach while he is only wearing underpants and has got a bottle in his hand. Or he wakes up in an empty container. Or, like this here, wearing a dress. Stuff like that :)

Not sure if the topic covers this, but here's a good way to get most of the money out of the Jewel Store heist/The Big Score

The Jewel Store Heist
Spoiler

  • Gunman: Patrick McReary
  • Getaway driver: Karim Denz
  • Hacker: Rickie Lukens
Profit: 1,2 million $ for Michael

The Big Score (obvious)
Spoiler

  • Gunman 1: Karl Abolji/Hugh Welsh
  • Gunman 2: Daryl Johns/Norm Richards
  • Driver (Helicopter): Taliana Martinez
  • Driver (Train): Karim Denz
Any cheap gunman will do and have the cheapest driver (Taliana on the heli/Karim on the train). Profits: +41 million dollars after the final mission (Either ending A, B or C)

Good question!

I was playing Michael, and I think he is the one that is required for the finding of Packie, because he immediately refers to the possible necessity of a good shooter in the near future.
I encountered Packie when Packie and a friend of his are robbing someone. It's a random event in a small shopping street, shown with blue blips on the radar. Blue blips meaning 'friendly' people. I helped them out being the gettaway driver for them, and have to shake off the cops.
I really have no idea where it was :-\\

I must say I was pleasantly surprised finding Packie ^-^

A new TIP regarding your characters' shooting abilities

You may want to get them to 100/100. We know that headshots improve your stats, or, seen as a small subtarget = head out of body, same with bullseye on a shooting range target.. you may want to go to a shooting range.

Just choose the AP Pistol and the second challenge with moving targets. Allows for a LOT of hits in the centre, hence increasing your stats very quickly. You don't have to do ALL the challenges, just that one, it's the fastest.

Thank you, PZ :) For some reason what I've done here reminds me of you: By the time I get the game, I'm likely to have forgot at least some of the details so those tips will serve me, too. This is for future reference.  :-()

Funny, sifting through this topic.. actually I haven't forgot the stuff here but instead, I can test those tips and add details to them. :)

For instance, I knew exactly where to find the driver but not that she will only be available after the mission "Mr Philips" or some such. She can be picked up by any character and apparently time doesn't play a role, either. Same with Packie, I knew where to find him but not that you can pick him up with all characters, same goes for when - day and night. I thought only at night.

Or, flipping the bird - I knew that you can do it but not how: in a vehicle, you have to select empty hands rather than a pistol. Aiming is the key to use, at anyone you aim your hand, you'll show the finger instead.

So much fun  :-D

Btw, those discounts are character specific, Michael is the only one who can get the 25% discount. Franklin and Trevor can get 10-15% discount.

Btw, I don't know if any of you have got the railgun as a reward (only players returning from the PS3/Xbox 360 get it). If you kill yourself (any character) when doing this challenge, you get the railgun for FREE ??? >:D :-D

Character specific? Oh, that's mean. I had F get gold in all competitions as well. :angry-new:

However.. practice pays off. At least both F and M have now acquired 100/100 shooting ability. :-()

A tip..

There is one side mission for M called Exercising Demons

how to get 100% and gold

I watched so many playthroughs that showed M nearly croak at the end, like health going red and pulsating and they finished at like 10% of M's health bar and not all of them won, despite the torture. So I decided to train my guys and had both M and F run and cycle a lot until they got their stamina up to 100/100. And this is the result for M's effort:

Here's something for you guys which you may want to try - meet up and hang out with friends while changing vehicles :)

First, how I happened to do it..
I was driving around as M when I stumbled upon something that looked like a parking lot of a cab business, it was filled with at least 5 yellow Declasse Tornado, Sports Classics. So I thought hell, might be fun to drive in one of those and parked my stolen car next to one of those going-to-be-stolen cars. Smashed in the driver's side window and got in.. when all of a sudden loads of red blips appeared on the mini map just around my position and I heard a couple of guys yell and one shouted, "what the f@#k, my whip!" So I had just nicked a car off a yellow-wearing gang and boy was I freaking out not to get killed right there and then. The car and I survived albeit both of us had taken considerable damage. I then remembered the trick to switch between characters in order to miraculously heal wounds and dents and at the time I decided to meet up with F so he could take over the car because F already owns that 30k garage where to store additional vehicles.

I kept switching between the two of them and all the time directing them towards the same spot (F's house in "the hood") and then I managed to really see F in his car while I was driving up as M in that yellow gang car.

I heard both of them exchanging a few lines like "hey is that you, what a coincidence, want to hang out?"  -- So we decided to do just that and I had M get out and F get into the car - ready to get stored in his garage  :-()

Another good idea would be raiding the Fort Zancudo flight control tower  :-D >:D On the top floor, go into a door on the left, get in and grab the minigun. The Minigun spawns every 30-90 seconds so if you have maxed the shooting skills and are willing to spend 5+ minutes idle, I'd recommend to do this :-()

NOTE: QUICK SAVING AND LOADING CAN BE DONE (FASTER PICKUP THAT WAY), BUT BEWARE, SOME SOLDIERS WILL SPAWN IN THAT ROOM AFTER EACH GAME RELOAD AND KILL YOU!

thanks, Binnatics :)

It's not the gold medals that give you 100/100 but how often you get bullseye or headshots and so on. That is why I recommended the AP pistol, to be able to get loads of centre hits in a short amount of time.

I vmaxed out the shooting with Franklin indeed. Must've been the shooting range, and getting gold must've awarded me with a discount on weaponry. But I didn't get a prompt or something, so I have no idea what it really is... I'll find out eventually ^-^

Having to walk the dog on occasion, the place of choice where to do so is a sports stadium. There, throwing Chop's ball (note "ball" is singular) at some of the local exercising athletes, some of those spontaneously develop a dire desire to come for me (unfortunately without the ball) which in turn allows Chop to both bring the ball back as well as to enjoy a rather welcome opportunity to chase after and chew on said athletes.

I recommend you take Chop to the stadium and have some fun :-()

Something else to do with Chop: Go to a very busy road and throw the ball to the other side. Then place a bet on either

a) he will make it without getting run over by at least one car
or
b) he won't make it without getting run over by at least one car

Need a new addition to your heist crew? A new driver is available.

Taliana Martinez, at your disposal after helping her out (random event). Go to the very north of the map, you'll see yellow to the left (desert) but look to the right, there is a little loop in the road, not far from there to the right. Franklin finds a burning car wreck at night between both lanes, a body next to it and an injured girl in the road -- your future driver. :)

This random event will be unlocked as soon as you unlock Trevor Philips and are allowed to free-roam. She can be picked up by all three characters at any time.

[smg id=7829 type=preview align=center caption="finding Taliana"]

However.. I didn't know she could bloody die on me  ???

On the way to her destination, she started to mention something about how she wouldn't make it and Trevor casually remarked, "I wish I could say that you were the first person I saw die today" (a more or less accurate quote) and a little later she whimpered, "not like that, not like that.." and when I got there Trevor said something like, "is she dead? Yes.. they come and they go."

[smg id=7828 type=preview align=center caption="oops the driver's dead"]

I just lost too much time. You have to consider that you find her lying on the ground and next to her a burning car wreck, she's bleeding badly. So you need to pick her up and get away with her before the cops arrive (that's the story of that random event) and.. before she bleeds out (that's something I had to find out the hard way)

Mistakes I made:

- I arrived on a bike that I couldn't use to get away with her, took some time to realise
- I couldn't trigger the event from the bike (took a little time to realise how to) so I had to be on foot
- I had to find a car which meant stop a car on some type of motorway, avoiding to get run over
- the car I stopped was the bloody opposite of a sports car, i.e. too slow
- I crashed into a maniac AI driver shortly before I reached the destination, slowing me down.
- using Trevor without maxing out his poor driving skills, the car was a tad difficult to drive.

In other words: It's probably a good idea to use Franklin and to get a fast car BEFORE you find her.

I had to reload a previous savegame in order to undo that little mishap.  :-()

Yep, nice avi :-X

lol @ CW the III  Question: Did that guy ever crack a smile on that show? ????

That reminded me... Back in the day, another Mod Squad actor, Michael Cole, was invited to be a guest presenter at the Aussie TV "Logie" awards (sort of our equivalent of the Emmys, only less flashy and more ludicrous). The Mod Squad was a big deal at the time and it was felt that Cole's presence might lend an international flavour to the ceremonies.

He agreed to do this and so he attended the event. While awaiting his turn at presenting he apparently helped himself to just a tad too much of the freely available grog at his table, so that when he was finally called forth to do his bit he stumbled dazedly up onto the stage (once he'd ascertained where it was located) where, having apparently forgotten what in the heck he was supposed to be doing up there, he stared dumbly out at the audience for a moment, muttered a couple of drunken false starts, then gave up on the exercise altogether and said simply, "Aw, s#!t..."

This was live in the early seventies, when one simply didn't say words like that on TV... 8-X

A tip

If you are about to cash out your stock market profits (particularly nasty after a Lester assassination investment) make sure that you switch to Trevor LAST (unless you are already playing as Trevor and are not in trouble)

The reason: Sometimes, when you switch to Trevor, he's in the middle of a situation that involves security or cops and then it is just very likely that you're about to see yourself being chased with wanted stars on your head or being shot at, beaten up.. stuff that may cause you to end up in hospital.. and that causes the game to advance time (as far as I heard, never checked the time myself, getting into and out of a hospital takes 10 hours) which may cause the share value to be a lot less than it would have without that incident. Now if all three characters are affected by that because you would still have to switch to the other two, all three of them would suffer a financial loss.

I'm telling you because just now I switched to Trevor and he was on a highway surrounded by four cop cars, two in front of him and two behind him.. and of course I ended up in a police chase. Thanks, Trevor.. lol -- I also found myself in front of two bouncers of a casino with Trevor already provoking them.. stuff like that..  :)

A TIP regarding stock market brokering

- Works with story-related and non-story related brokering.

1) Save manually before you invest.
2) In case you can't make a profit, reload from step 1 and don't try this stock again for a while
3) Save manually after you sold all (made a profit)
4) Reinvest your money (same stock)
5) in case you made another profit, go back to step 3
6) In case you can't make a profit, reload from step 3 and don't try this stock again for a while

The trick is, as long as you keep going without using a savegame that was created after investing money, the game will give you a steady and continuous stock market graph of the companies you're interested in, making it possible to predict a trend.

Once you reload your savegame, the stock market history will have changed totally.

Only after certain mission-related events when companies were mentioned by name, those companies' stocks will continue steadily for a while so reloading your savegame won't influence their trends.

Tip how to get the best out of a story-related stock market "deal"

I did it the way described above in the previous tip.

example -- the hotel assassination

I'll show you the bank account of Franklin after his mandatory first assassination job assigned by Lester. You will see his initial payment of $9,000 after he assassinated the head of a company and you'll notice that before said payment (more precisely, before the assassination) all of Franklin's money had gone -- into the competing company's (Betta Pharmaceutical, BET) shares.

I then cashed out with a 50% return percentage (those $2.740.148) which was directly story-related and didn't get higher; also, it stayed like that for a while.

After that comes a new investment: I bought shares of exactly the opposite company (Bilkinton, BIL) whose boss I had assassinated as Franklin. Hoping that those shares would recover from the massive contraction caused by the death of that poor sod, I decided to wait a little until I got a new all-time low and then buy.

I had heard that one should sell at a return percentage of around 80, and, knowing that greed may be one's downfall, I sold at around 80% indeed. That's in the first pic those $4.940.000.

Normally you'd be done and gone.. continuing with the story.

Not if you wanted the best.

Alright, so I continued as described in the previous post. I saved and reinvested. Again and again. Look at what I ended up with. I roughly made another $1.7M just by reinvesting all over again, riding on the expansion :-D

The following two pics show that I sold all (and saved the game) and then reinvested quite a couple of times, just making sure I could continue to ride on the wave of this massive expansion without really losing money.

Because transactions start from the bottom in those following two pics, I have to first show this..
[smg id=7863 type=preview align=center caption="HA 001"]

..and then this as it continues.
[smg id=7864 type=preview align=center caption="HA 002"]

Look at the all-time low, I'm buying..
[smg id=7865 type=preview align=center caption="ha 003"]

..having waited a bit, the assassination took place on Thursday and the contraction continued for a while. Can't wait forever, however  :-()
[smg id=7866 type=preview align=center caption="ha 004"]

..and this is about the absolute max (oops, this time it's Michael's view, see top right, different amount of money, I had him invest, too) let's get out of here..
[smg id=7867 type=preview align=center caption="HA 005"]

..and enjoy the riches  :-()

I just checked the Hotel Assassination in that wiki. Nice tips there but one thing is no longer correct:

They say that the garage at aunt D is no longer accessible to the player once M moves house. I checked before I knew about that article, right after M moved out because I was missing one car. It was still in that garage and it was accessible. The old house however no longer was.

Hmm interesting. In GTA IV all he parking spaces remained accessible, even when the safehouse burnt to the ground. So it may still be accessible indeed. Fits in the GTA tradition. I remember how I was moving cars from parking space to parking space in order to kep as much unique vehicles as possible even back in GTA III 8)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9hxsQgOSw0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9hxsQgOSw0#)

re 2) I really wanted to try that so I did! I had it resprayed during the mission so I might recognise it better and so it might end up in the impound lot.. which it did. It now sits in my garage. :-D

Just generally speaking, if you want a really rare (as in mission) car, make sure you have a free slot in one of your garages.

My first attempt was a bit frustrating because usually when you drive up to a full garage and enter it on foot so inside the garage you may choose a car which to replace, you'll drive out the garage and find the car you arrived in sitting there parked (at least it has been like that with Franklin) -- this time my mission car was just gone. It wasn't even in the impound lot (there was no impound lot marked on the map meaning no cars there) so I had to reload the savegame from after the mission.

I then called a cab to my garage just not to cause any meaningless impounded cars which might replace more valuable ones.. such as the mission car for whatever reason.. Once arrived, I chose a car to free up one slot and drove with it to the impound lot where I retrieved the mission car which I was then able to save in my garage.

Vehicle Impound

We find most of our recent last two abandoned rides there. Apparently sometimes your vehicles don't show up. Sometimes special cars such as racing cars don't show up there. Some other rare cars however, do.

I don't quite get the concept of that..  ????

I had one of those nice racing cars, a Turismo R, and changed it for a motor bike. I dropped the bike and went on walking. I took a cab to the impound lot and there was one vehicle you get for free when you purchased a garage for $30k, an Annis Elegy RH8 Sports and another car. Both of which I don't even remember when I last drove those.

Weird.. ????

So I recommend to save your game as soon as you got a car you want to keep and store it in one of your garages, perhaps save again.

Good quality tips guys! I should dig into this impound thing indeed. I think it won't w@&k when replaying a mission, because the game safes before you drop into it, and puts you back in action where you left, after you completed (or failed) the mission again. Seemingly only saving the statistics of your new attempt. So the whole concept of saving special mission cars got to wait until my next playthrough I guess ;)
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on April 26, 2015, 03:36:31 PM
true, you can't keep money or anything but updated statistics when doing those replays.

PZ, the story alone is roughly 50% of the completion as far as I know so your 10% don't tell too much as they could basically just as well mean that you haven't done anything but side missions and collectibles.. :) However, you'll get your garages eventually as long as you progress the story a little further.

They said it would be best not to spend money before doing Lester's jobs and to do those only after the main mission so you would have some substantial funding. Well.. they were right.  :-D

This was only after the first of Lester's assassination jobs :-D Looking forward to doing more brokering.

This is after the bus assassination. Still one assassination to go..

YES! I did it! When the game came out 1.5 years ago I so badly wanted to check out the stock market and I've always wanted to try to crack the billion dollar mark (without cheating) and I just did it! :-()

Now I actually have to be careful not to pop the game. There is a limit as to how much it can handle.. if I doubled my money, which is possible right now, I would hit the limit of the programming. Darn..  :-D I'll go on with Trevor who's got the least amount of money so far, only just over 800M..  :-()

Oh, I think the solution is to buy ALL properties NOW so I have less spare money to invest in shares.

Err, the tip.. in the tips topic here.. ahem.. "be patient, save your money, invest in shares." :-D

Two tips:

Regarding heist missions that require an escape that is not scripted:

best do a practice run to find a good getaway route before you have to get away  :-()

the other tip:

Sometimes you're about to get busted by the cops. They WILL take away ALL your ammo and armour. Depending on how much you're carrying, particularly when you've advanced in the story, you will find it easier to waste yourself -- just equip a hand grenade and blow yourself to smithereens. It will only cost the hospital bill (maximum charge is $5,000) and saves you the time to go to an Ammunation store and to replenish your stuff and likely it will be less expensive to pay the hospital than having to pay for all the ammo and explosives and stuff. :-D

How can anybody get busted in this game?!?
Evading is too easy, way too easy, just get rid off the cops and then park your a$$ to the next out of sight slot and your done.

Want to duplicate a car? :)

* Drive your car into Franklin's first garage (at aunt D's)
* get another car or hail a cab, drive to the impound lot
* retrieve an identical copy of the car you just parked in your garage at aunt D's (which is still parked there)

Works with stolen and bought cars. :-D
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on April 29, 2015, 01:49:47 AM
I believe that you can duplicate your cars with any of the personal (house) garages with any character. It would explain why I have kept finding rare vehicles in the impound lot that I knew I had stashed away in one of my garages. It probably even works with cars parked in those $30k garages.

Maybe you can post here if you found out something about it. :)
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on April 29, 2015, 05:11:06 AM
Doesn't always seem to w@&k. I had Michael buy a car (JB 700) and it couldn't be duplicated. Then I gave* it to Franklin so he could duplicate it with aunt D's garage but that didn't w@&k either.

* Switch cars / owners:

I had Michael drive the JB 700 to the impound lot and then switched to Franklin and had him hail a cab and skipped the sight-seeing so I could fast-travel to the impound lot. There I had Michael get out of the car and walk away a little so he wouldn't immediately try to get back in and then I switched to Franklin and quickly got into the JB 700.

You might want to switch between both characters every few seconds so the one you're not controlling doesn't move away -- if he does, lead him back. Also, switch between them if they try to get into the car they're not supposed to.

:-D @ Binnatics's comment
I got busted very early in the game and ever since have tried to avoid that. There are locations you can't just hide or get away, particularly when in the open countryside and/or on foot. With a wanted level of more than one star I always got killed when I couldn't get away but I much rather pull the pin of a hand grenade and cook it while running towards the cops :-D

I have a little tip to share about hanging out with both your friends:

You can hang out with a friend by calling him up and selecting the "Hang out" option in the phone. It is also possible to hang out with more than one friend. I wanted to hang out with both Trevor and Michael, being Franklin at that moment. The reason; the "Three Man Army" achievement :-D
I had difficulties making an appointment with both of them, since one was always busy shortly after I picked up the other. Then I tried to call them up both before going to the meeting point of the guy I called first. That helped. You just get two meeting points to go to, and your friends will join you one after the other. Franklin even comments to the guy he calls second, Trevor in this case, that he wants to hang out with him and Michael. ^-^ You can now share the fun amongst 3 friends, and maybe do some serious damage on a driveby >:D

I haven't tried out if you can meet up with even 3, for example Lamar, or who else you may be able to call for hangin out ;)

I have another tip, in case you stumble upon the same problem I did a couple of times; certain missions, side quests or random events not getting triggered to appear anymore. I read a lot about these issues on the internet. I had difficulties getting the final street race to appear, and after I completed the story random events and property missions wouldn't appear anymore. There are many solutions to find on the net, none of them is working for everybody.

What worked for me:

The street race reappeared after I did the following;
- Being Franklin, I saved my game on a new slot;
- Went to GTA Online through the Alt - F8 link and played in GTA Online for 5 minutes. Switched back to Franklin using Alt - F6. The race appeared again ^-^

After the story was complete, most of the random events wouldn't trigger again, neither did the property missions;
- I went back to an old save where I had something like 25% completion. It was when Trevor just had moved to Wade's cousin in LS. There I did the the Hitch Hiker 3 random event (I wanted to do specifically one of the random events that I could bring to the Altruist camp, being Trevor, for an achievement :-D)
- After completing the event and getting the achievement I went back to my 100% completion most recent savegame and there the random events started reappearing again ^-^

It seems somehow, during the gameplay, certain mission triggers or event appearances get blocked and you have to find a bypass to access them again. Other ppl online commented it worked to sleep for 15 days straight without saving (just sleep on the bed). Hope this problem doesn't appear for you guys, but in case it does here's the info that helped me ;)

For Dweller_Benthos :)

Stock Market Trading with all of Lester's Assassination Missions

Making money on the stock market using Lester's assassination missions is best done AFTER COMPLETING THE MAIN STORY and without spending too much money made with those heists. The only mission that is mandatory is the first one, you actually have to play it in order to progress the story. But wait with the others until you're done with the story.

Remember to invest all the money of all three characters.

When cashing out, switch to Trevor last (sometimes he's in trouble with the police when you switch to him and that could take up too much time during which you may lose a lot of money..)

When waiting for time to pass, use either Franklin or Michael to send the one of your choice to bed. I never paid attention to how long Michael sleeps, I think about the same amount of time as Franklin which is 8 hours. Trevor sleeps 12.

Sell once the return percentage (let's call that "RP" from now on) is significant. At least around 25%, sometimes you may get up to 100% :) Use the sleep function but DON'T SAVE, just send the character to sleep to pass time. You should actually stay put, observe the stock market (your shares) every time you wake up as F or M or T, rinse and repeat until you get your big cash. THEN save. You may reinvest and continue, trying to get even more, cash out, save, reinvest, rinse and repeat until you start to lose money. THEN load your savegame and DON'T reinvest again. It WILL fail if you do.

edit: yellow numbers = from the link provided by GKID

1) Hotel Assessination
before: buy BettaPharmaceuticals (BET)
after:  Sell BET when RP>50 / 80
after that: buy Bilkinton (BIL) and sell when RP>80

2) The Multi Target Assassination (those jurors)
before: buy Debonaire (DEB)
after: sell DEB when RP>35 / 80
after that: buy Redwood (RWC) and sell when RP>100 / 300

3) The Vice Assessination

after: sell when RP>25 / 50
after that: buy Facade (FAC) also BAWSAQ and sell when RP>25 / 33

4) the Bus Assassination

after: buy Vapid (VAP) on BAWSAQ

Thanks Art, a nice easy to use list of what to do before and after those missions. I'm not out to get the most maximum amount of money anyway, just enough to easily play the game. Getting to the point of having them all be billionaires probably won't happen lol.

I never looked at the BAWSAQ list, I thought it was for online only? Guess not, I take it that it works the same way as the other one?
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks

Bawsaq requires you to be connected to the Internet. Works similar to LCN ;) The Debonaire stock can go up to 80 %. Redwood goes up to 300 %. I had to sleep for a week to get my 300 % profit for the Multitarget Assassination  >:D
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on June 01, 2015, 04:59:40 PM
GKID, nice one on the 300%  ??? :-X :)

D_B, ignore the BAWSAQ except when doing those assassination missions and only then and only the companies mentioned.

BAWSAQ is something that is player-driven and as GKID stated, it's an online thingy. Ignore it because it is sloooooooooooow as it is real life real time and it takes hours just for minimal changes up and down. Nothing to gamble with.

During those assassination missions, the shares of the companies affected by those assassinations will behave differently for the time it takes to get the "desired" result as in performing badly or exceptionally well. It can only be done if it is not connected (the game controls that) to "the real thing" as in not connected to the current real time stock market trading.

GKID: Ah, I didn't know. Thanks :)

I think it would be a good idea to use coloured text to highlight the changes you made so it would be easier to see if something and what exactly was changed :)

Also, you could erase the intro and just quote the assassinations from 1 to 5 so the quote wouldn't be so big. Generally speaking, just quote what is actually of interest. Imagine you'd have to read the entire book "The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" because someone wanted you to find the famous line, "to be or not to be"  :-() )

OK what about the Tinkle stock tip you get from picking up that guy stranded on the side of the road? As soon as I dropped him off, I bought all the Tinkle stock I could, and it went up a bit, maybe 2.5%, but not the 33% it says on the wiki:

http://gta.wikia.com/Tinkle (http://gta.wikia.com/Tinkle)

It's kind of vague, do I invest in the stock before I even pick the guy up? Or does sleeping not change the Bawsaq market like it does for the other one? As it seemed I would sleep and never get above the 2.5% and then it would drop and I would start losing money. Or do I just have to wait longer?
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Art Blade on June 08, 2015, 08:29:54 AM
you buy with all your money before you pick him up.

What you observed regarding the BAWSAQ is the real time player-driven trading, so you missed out on a story-driven event.
Title: Re: GTA V Tips and Tricks
Post by: Dweller_Benthos on June 08, 2015, 10:16:25 AM
So that doesn't really make sense, does it? In order to know about the stock to buy, you have to pick the guy up, but you have to know what stock to buy before you pick the guy up?

I didn't have to wait long, I slept once and the return was at 32.96% and the wiki says 33% seems to be the limit so I sold it then.

Still makes no sense that you have to buy the stock before you do the mission that tells you what stock to buy.
