Title: Screen Shots
Post by: RedRaven on February 05, 2010, 11:21:13 AM
After an hour in the Zone here is a little of what I've seen so far.

The skies are dark and ominous.

[smg id=1951]

Stormy too.

[smg id=1946]

A very BIG engine in a wrecked ship.

[smg id=1950]

And what is left of a loading dock

[smg id=1947]

Here the earth has been ripped open (falling down those cracks is a bad idea)

[smg id=1949]

And a new type of anomally called 'Circus' The 2 fire ball things move around in opposite directions, seems they have left their mark on the ground too. And I'm sure there is something evil lurking in the middle of it all!

[smg id=1948]

More to come soon ;D

Strange water near one of the crash sites.

[smg id=1958]

Must be caused by the anomalies in the area, the peaks and dips don't move yet the wind is causing ripples on across the surface. Very odd!

It matters little what you call them, Blow Outs, Emissions, Psi waves, Big Burning Sky of Doom or even Farts of the Gods. It WILL kill you regardless.

It doesn't start to cause damage for about a minute or so, watch the red health bar go down when it does start to take effect :-\

[smg id=1963 type=av]

Emissions were nearly all cut from SoC, leaving it with just 1 or 2 scripted events. They were put back into the game with the Oblivion Lost and Newsa+Simbion mods. They also feature in CS. And they are back in CoP too.  ;D

Here are maps for the 3 areas in Call of Pripyat.

ZATON

[smg id=1965]

JUPITER

[smg id=1966]

PRIPYAT

[smg id=1964]

They are quite well detailed images of the landscape, and they have no markers or spoilers, so they wont tell you where hidden things are such as Artefacts, Tool kits and other useful equipment scattered through out the Zone.

The images above have been reduced in size to fit. In the downloads section is a zipped pack of all 3 maps, each one in that is twice as large (in pixels). It can be found here -

http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=127 (http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=127)

Happy hunting :)

Nice pics there Art, I see you have left the relative safety of Zaton. During my second or third day in that area I was confronted by a gang of 2 Burer's lurking just the other side of the train cars, so I ran back into the station for safety and had a sleep for a couple of hours only to be attacked by a controller as soon as I stepped outside again! Good luck ;D
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on February 21, 2010, 10:07:11 AM
Hehe, I took on a mission for the scientists which led me into a tunnel to get an artifact. Getting it releases a controller, who turns my four fellow stalkers into enemies. I hid behind a column each time the controller sounded his psi wave and by breaking the line of sight he couldn't harm me. I killed him with my simple AK... and all my men survived  ;D

Great pics, Art  :-X

Can you go it alone in the world or do you need to babysit a group of guys?
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on February 22, 2010, 11:45:19 AM
You walk around mostly alone, a few missions involve other people ("walking in groups") e.g. you need to protect someone or go on a raid with some people.

Basically it offers everything we at OWG like:
- As we tried to classify FO3, this is mainly an FPSRPG rather than an RPGFPS ;D
- open world, free roam, during and between missions
- remains open world after finishing the main story (and even after all side missions)
- a ton of weapons (all excessively customiseable, including scopes, suppressors, night vision, friend-foe detection, rate of fire, accuracy, barrel-mounted grenade launchers, etc)
- various factions
- "merc wars"
- endlessly respawning life (mercs, animals etc)

GREAT  :-X

And also... FUN:

oops, sorry!

Just so you can take a look at my current inventory (right) and my personal stash box (left). All the stuff I've got. The little arrows in the corner of weapon and armour icons indicate that the item has been upgraded.

Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on February 26, 2010, 03:19:30 PM
The scope is on my G37, a high contrast scope which is good especially in darker areas. The weapon is (when upgrades are maxed out) as precise as the best sniper rifle although it is an assault rifle. I think it always looks like this, the scope, but there are many different scopes available to mount on various rifles (not all of them can use scopes though)

"Yoda" for "burer" is a term I picked up on a different forum which I posted in the tips topic, where you can find a nice description and summary of the game. I found it funny :)

I found a way to get rid of the hud (always wanted to see the night black without glowing hud elements) but a screenshot taken at night won't be helpful for you, so here goes:

open the console ("~" key, the one left of "1" and above TAB) and type hud_draw off (on/off or 0/1)

[smg id=2044 align=center width=400]

Nice find Art, was looking for something similar myself but could only find a mod that removed it permanently, which is no where near as useful.
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on March 01, 2010, 11:32:26 AM
Thanks Red, if you were looking for something like that, you (and I) could as well have looked into the options menu>game> down there, last entry, "show interface" and uncheck it. It disables the HUD  ;D Apparently the command unchecks the display option, and if you check it there, it equals "hud_draw on" lol

Both versions can be done in peace and quiet, i.e. if you are being surprised and wished you could see the HUD, just hit ESC. The console is accessible from there, so is the options menu. Change the setting, and return to play. :)

Those white dots in the dark look menacing, even without seeing the flashlight version  ;)
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on March 02, 2010, 09:21:53 AM
You should have heard the growl in the dark...  ;D You can see how dark nights are, really, especially with the HUD switched off. Without flashlight (did you use that word? I thought it was "torch" for you :) ) or night vision device you see close to nothing. Which is funny if out of the blue you drop into a gaping crevasse in the ground. Only to find out you're half dead by the impact and about to lose it when you hear more snarling and growling homing in at you  ;D

Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: PZ on March 02, 2010, 10:12:30 AM
Flashlight is we use in these parts - for us, a torch is something a caveman carries, and if not careful will set his cave on fire  ;D

Cool pics - about the dog eating the rat - were you using night vision?  If so, how dark was it without using it?
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on March 12, 2010, 12:49:25 PM
Thanks :)

No, I was using a "high contrast" scope that just does what it says and tints everything yellowish (plus I edited the pic, brightened it up). In complete darkness you can't see a thing with it, but it is great in twilight (dusk, dawn, sparsely lit rooms). Annoying thing about it: When you use your armour's or helmet's night vision (everything nice bright and green) and then put that scope to your eye, you kind of black out for a moment until you have adapted the difference to dark tones, ranging from almost black to amber and yellow. So I either carry two otherwise identical weapons but different (built-in) scopes, or decide prior to my trips which one to take with me.

Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on March 12, 2010, 01:17:34 PM
The game is kind of a mixture of FC2 and FO3. It is still great to play when the story is over, the free roam and free play is just going on. There are many many opponents (humans, humanoids, mutants, and mutated animals). You can always pick a fight with bandits if you like, in Zaton, and in Pripyat there are Merc Soldiers who are quite a nice challenge. You can continue to collect and sell loot (man, I can't get rid of that habit hehe) and explore the rather big maps. Since there is a weather system as well as day and night cycle, you will always see your environment in a slightly different manner, never ending fascination. You can get all kinds of weapons and armour and upgrade them to your heart's content. I love that game :)
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: PZ on March 12, 2010, 01:19:20 PM
I'll probably get this game one of these days - your enthusiasm is evident!  I'm still playing FO3 believe it or not, but only in free roam mode and an occasional quest.  I'm still mostly into modding the game and seeing how it affects it rather than actual play.  ;D
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on March 12, 2010, 01:23:51 PM
ah, I edited the previous post while you replied (lol, again). There are mods for stalker games, too. I usually don't mod my games (until you kind of made me want to do it with FO3) and if I do, I do it so I can play better (see my own artmod for FO3) or have more fun. While I see the fun of modding, I think you should actually play through once with your mods so you see how it actually works throughout an entire game ;)
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: PZ on March 12, 2010, 01:26:19 PM
I'm close... really close to actually playing  :-X

I forgot to mention that I have dozens of mods and many of them conflict with one another - one of my joys at the moment is using FO3Edit to resolve those conflicts so that the game runs perfectly.  I guess that I like the coding aspects of things almost as much as the finished product  ;)
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on March 12, 2010, 01:31:04 PM
I understand that :) Maybe you should consider getting into the Eden Kit and modify your own stuff... I did, the artmod for FO3 was the result of both a need ("real kick-a$$ guns" and real mean body guards) and curiosity. I thought I could do it myself, and create what I need, and it isn't too complicated unless you are up to change whole game aspects such as weather etc, that is beyond me and I can't be bothered to invest too much of my time into that kind of thing. Just a few tweaks and I'm happy :)
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: PZ on March 12, 2010, 01:52:53 PM
I've considered it - I've installed a few weapons mods and am able to assign them to NPCs via FO3Edit.  Can change all sorts of things via these overrides
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Art Blade on March 12, 2010, 04:40:13 PM

Here are some strange and remarkable screenshots.

First, an emission in the open. The special thing is, I survive now... Because earlier, I had waited outside, swallowed one of those "anti-emission" pills when it was already rather late, and then I achieved a permanent resistence. Now I don't need shelter nor medicine... I just pass out for a moment and then I can walk on. I lose maybe half of what is shown on my health bar. Quite impressive when you are somewhere outside while all hell breaks loose...
[smg id=2070 width=400]
[smg id=2075 width=400]
[smg id=2074 width=400]

This here is I don't know what... In the barge, they killed each other when they tried to kill me after I had killed one of them. Their problem was, they locked themselves in while throwing grenades and shooting... And I was outside and heard them kill each other off LOL After a while I was allowed in again, perhaps for some giggles...
[smg id=2072 width=400]

And In Yanov station, god knows what had happened here. It was crammed with mutants trying to get OUT while everyone else was standing around pathetically. What did I do? I opened the doors and bloody let those poor beasties out.  ;D
[smg id=2071 width=400]
[smg id=2073 width=400]
[smg id=2069 width=400]

And only then, the idiots woke up and panicked  ::) :)

Nice Emission pics Art. You should check out the ATMOSFEAR mod, the emissions in that are good. Strange blue waves washing across everything, would be good to mix different emissions from mods so that visually at least you get a random blow-out. Might look into that when I can.

Nice pic deadman, the Atmosfear mod is probably one of the best 'face lift' mods out there.

I'm about to embark on another journey into the Zone through SoC using the Stalker Complete mod. Among other 'face lifts' it boasts a proper moon cycle !  ;D  (oh wow, no more constant full moon....yippee)

Will post some pics and a review later in the week after had chance to get further into it.

Great screenpics back there, Art :-X :-X

Geez, were you responsible for all those corpses in pic #7?

thanks, fragger :) And yes, I was.

Only I didn't kill all of them in a single go, the problem with the setup of this game is that some corpses just won't disappear. What you see there is a passage that is just down the road when you leave the laundromat (I believe that's the proper name of Pripyat's base, I kept calling it launderette) so every time you leave the base and check that passage with your scope, especially when using a target tracker, you'll see either rats, dogs or bloodsuckers loitering there, and every time I do, I kill them. Over time they pile up there, sprawled across the road in front and behind as well as in that passage itself. What I did then, for that screenie, was kind of sweeping the floor and stuffing all of them right there so it looks even more impressive. Not all corpses stay, just some, and annoyingly so, especially those you can see in that particular picture.

That made me fiddle with some of the config files and I found an entry that seemed to be responsible for the "lifespan" of the corpses, and it was set to I believe 60,000. I changed it to 600 but as of now I still can't approve that it solved that issue.

This game just got my attention . Watched some gameplay vids and I agree, it look a lot of fun. I really like the fact that it allows us to free roam after finishing the game.

The screen above is so funny  ;D :-X
