Here's mine (at the moment):

I don't think I've nailed down a fave yet, but some weapons I am finding myself using often are:

The recurve bow with upgraded sight - I love that thing in the right circumstances;
The "Bull" shotgun (sig weapon, find 10 relics to unlock) - great for those up close and personal moments;
The suppressed MP-5 with reflex sight - I'm right with you there PZ;
The mighty AMR (sig weapon, find 20 relics to unlock) - a massively powerful, long-range sniper rifle that fires AP rounds and has a 2-level zoom sight. Hit a bad guy with that and watch it blow him backwards right off his feet >:D

I love how you are no longer restricted to what weapons you can have in which slots, so you can have any combo you like. Excellent :-X

Just get those 20 relics together and it can be yours :-D

I tried using the recurve bow to fire explosive arrows - cool :-X Doesn't do much against the heavily armoured guys, the ones in Hoyt's army that is. They're even tougher than the armoured guys in the north. It does slow them down briefly though.

I'm getting pretty good with the bow, I can take guys down pretty accurately from over a hundred metres away now (according to the numbers on the sight). It's possible to get guys even beyond the sight's upper numbers - just aim higher :-D Once again though, it's no use against the armoured guys. Land mines and C4 are pretty effective against them, as is the flame thrower.

RPGs really travel in this game, the way they should. Has anyone else tried the grenade launcher? I can't remember what it's called just now, but it's a good crowd disperser >:D

I did, I think something with -97 in its description. It holds four grenades and you can carry 12 more. I used it for taking down a few outposts. And a pig.  :-D

Here's mine:

1. 50D, equipped with optical sight and extended mag.
2. Z93 sniper (the AMR, but then customized myself, with extended mag, same optical scope and; a suppressor ^-^)
3. GL-94 grenade launcher
4. The Bull. Nothing better for close encounters and any kind of wildlife. >:D

Heh, I'll yet have to get your sniper  :)

currently:

The Ripper and The Shredder (signature weapons, one is an SMG, the other one is an LMG which I sometimes use instead of the BULL signature shotgun)
M700 sniper with suppressor and 2x scope
MS16 assault rifle with suppressor and some scope

sometimes, for fun and giggles, the grenade launcher or the repair tool.

Yeah it's very funny. :D I love this gun.
I'm really really bad with the bow. So far I've tried to shoot deer and pirates but haven't succedeed yet.

Guns I often use are:

1. AK (North island), P14 (South island) for mid range combat.
2. Sniper rifles (AMR, silenced M700) for picking off baddies from afar.
3. Grenade launcher. To shoot the patrol jeeps when I want a big explosions. This will especially come handy in last missions.
4. shotgun/ RPG/ LMG.

It's much more accurate to use once you upgrade the sight, Even so, it does take practice. It's not like a sniper sight where the bullet goes where you aim - you have to allow for drop (of course bullets drop too in reality, but this is a game :-()) The advanced sight gives you some indication of this :)
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: durian on December 11, 2012, 04:31:23 PM
I did buy both the upgrades for the bow. I thought there's no drop with the arrows like the bullets. I need to practice the bow more until getting pretty good with it.

Stealth players like PZ should always equip the bow since it's completely silent and has a rather good range.

If you look closely, you can see where the arrow lands if it hits the ground (a little puff of dust), and sometimes when it falls short you can see it as a small, dropping white dot. It doesn't always appear to be visible though, and it's really fast and brief when it is.

I like plucking arrows out of faces when walking over them. You get those arrows back when you find them  :) :-X

@Art, that's another thing I like about the bow - you can get your ammo back :-X As long as you hit the target, that is.

So far I'm happy with my suppressed M700 because if I accomplish head shots the pirates never know I'm there

I changed my D50 for the MP5 with silencer and extended mag. Had the gun during my first playthrough with different scopes, but they are in fact all taking precision away from you since the 'red dot' is in your sight instead of delighting it, and other aiming devices do much the same. The iron crosshair on the vanilla weapon feels much more accurate and skillful.
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out

After testing all weapons there are, I now know that I don't have a favourite loadout. But I do have one favourite weapon that I got as soon as possible during my first playthrough and NEVER gave up on it as it never gave up on me  :-D I kept it from the very beginning and now my 2nd playthrough is the same, already got it with silencer and optical scope..

the MS16 assault rifle.  :-X :-X :-X
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: Art Blade on December 20, 2012, 07:34:17 PM
Took some time to come up with my favourite loadout:

MS16 with suppressor and optical scope -- after the 1911, the first "real" weapon I get, actually I buy it as soon as I have scraped the money together (can't wait) and it stays forever in all my loadout variations. I love the semi-automatic fire as it saves a lot of ammo and most enemies have assault rifle ammo to donate. I can perform headshots with it on targets that are about 50m away.

Shredder SMG, a silenced signature weapon, as soon as it's unlocked. Within one second it can pump half a magazine into a bear and kill him before he can make a move. It actually takes down everything that moves on legs in two shakes of a lamb's tail.

Z93 sniper rifle with suppressor and 2x scope is just the right thing to vent someone's brains and isn't louder than an old man's fart.

Tanto -- a signature weapon, a Japanese short sword, more like a knife or dagger, is a melee weapon that adds damage to your blows. It stays with me as soon as I can unlock it.

The last slot is variable:

Mostly for liberating outposts: the recurve bow with explosive arrows.
Mostly if I expect to face animals: the Bull signature shotgun. Devastating.
Mostly during story missions: the Flamethrower as a weapon against multiple enemies.
Mostly if I want to intimidate drivers or avoid a fight with heavies: the AMR signature sniper. No weapon is louder, stronger and brutal than this one.

I purchased that one today and went into Paint it Black (satellite mission).  It made easy w@&k of the heavily armored heavies.  :-()

While the mission was relatively easy once I used the C4 on the flamethrower heavies, it's linear nature definitely does not mark it as one of my favorites.

you already mentioned once that you threw C4 at them. I can place or drop C4 but not exactly throw.. but I wish I could :)

I don't know how to throw C4 on the PC, but on the console it is the L1 button, which I think is the same as placing the charge.
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: Art Blade on December 20, 2012, 09:32:58 PM
"throw" to me looks like what we do with rocks or hand grenades. Can you throw C4 like that?
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: PZ on December 20, 2012, 10:49:26 PM
Yes, one of the flamethrower heavies in the building was coming toward me and I threw the C4 at him with my left hand and triggered with my right.  However, you do not hold the button as you would when placing the charge, but merely press-and-release

I'm growing to like the SPAS-12 semi-auto shottie for when I'm up close and personal (I liked that one in FC2 as well). It's almost, but not quite, as hard-hitting as the Bull, but what it lacks in punch it makes up for in rapid fire. Doing a quick BLAM-BLAM-BLAM on some dirtbag pirate is a great stress reliever >:D

You have to wait until you go south to unlock that one though. I customised mine with extended mag and night-sight.
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: Art Blade on December 21, 2012, 07:09:00 AM
PZ, thanks for the reply, I'll definitely try that  :)

fragger, I wasn't aware of the rapid fire, going to check it if someone happens to drop one to my feet while waving good-bye to his spark of life  :-D
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out

Man, fragger how could I forget the Spas-12? :o
I will definitely see what it acts like and I think you are right about the rapid fire advantage. Thanx for reminding :)

Art, I haven't use C4 much, in fact only once, when I wanted to trick Vaas when spawning out of the APC truck during that mission. I tried to 'lay' the charges on the ground, but the result was like PZ explains; sort of throwing. The charges ended up 'under' the vehicle. I used the left mouse button, just one short push. I should practice sticking it to surfaces actually :-D

I learned how to efficiently stick them to surfaces and will now have to learn how to throw them

As soon as I managed to unlock my favourite weapons I packed my FC2 load out!

1 - SVD now customized with siliencer
2 - GL-94 for incoming enemy vehicles and crowd dispersing (actually, vapourizing  >:D )
3 - Silenced MP5
4 - PKM, and shortly after, U100.

My secondary slot is where I keep weapons I'm experimenting with like the flamethrower and the bow

I felt like playing FC2 this way  ::)

I now changed my loadout

1 - M700 silenced with 2x optical scope
2 - recurve bow
3 - Shredder (signature)
4 - MS16 with red dot sight

Assault rifles that fire single bullets are great. Since enemies die after a bullet or two in this game, I can save loads of ammo by carrying one of those with me. Having a high fire rate silenced weapon comes in handy when you enter a camp still unnoticed or if you want to hunt without atracting too much attention, that's why I kept the silenced MP5 untill I unlocked the Shredder, which I have with me all the time  ;)

Since I'm still in the northern island doing side missions bfore hitting the main stories again I know I will have tons of fun with the weapons available in the southern island!  8)

Heh, a FC2 loadout in FC3.. :)

I've now learned (wasn't difficult at all) to throw C4. Indeed it is just tapping the fire button. Did help me quite a bit, good addition to hand grenades :)

JRD, how did you customize SVD with suppressor ? I liked SVD a lot in FC2 but in this game, I hardly used it as the more powerful and customizable M700 is available shortly after acquiring SVD.

I learned to throw C4  by accident when fighting horde of baddies inside the comm center. Just 1 C4, Boom, the flamer was dead.

All right, all right, so maybe I bought the SVD but shortly after got the M700 which can be customised and then the M700 Predator which came with the Hunter Pack pre order bonus!  ;D

If only I had the game in this computer I wouldn't be creating too much confusion  ::) ... and the pirates won't care which rifle fired the bullet that went through their brains... so why would you?!?!?!  >:D

I just got the signature sniper rifle, which can't be customized with a supressor, so my choice for silent range weapon is now the bow! I'm still getting the hang of it but it sure is cool. I've hunted the black panther with it and it felt great!!  >:D 8)

A favourite personal arsenal is finally starting to emerge:

1. SPAS-12 (with extended mag and night sight)
2. Shredder
3. Z93 (suppressed with 2x sight)
4. Recurve Bow (with Marksman sight).
Melee: Tanto

Sometimes I have the M60 LMG in slot 2 if I think there's going to be a lot of gunplay without a need for stealth (it can't be silenced). It's hard-hitting nature and large magazine lets me fight longer between reloads, and it goes pretty well against heavies.

Sometimes I like to pack the grenade launcher or a silenced 6P9 in slot 1 depending on the mission requirements.

One thing - it's a bit silly how you can only fit or remove a silencer at a vending machine. All you have to do is screw/unscrew it, for heaven's sake ::) It would be nice if you could whip it out in the field or stick it back in your pocket whenever you wanted to.

Z93 is always in one of my slot and SPAS just become one of my favorite gun for both the power and fire rate. I like it much more than the Bull. In a playing session a couple days ago, I approached 3 pirates who were sitting around a fireplace in jungle, I blasted them with a shot of SPAS and all of them died instantly  ;D

Completely agree with you about attach/detach silencer. Weapon customization is a big improvement over FC2 but it'd be much better if we can customize them on the fly.
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: JRD on January 02, 2013, 02:24:21 PM
The beauty of the bow is that you can use it as a silent weapon, quite good at near to mid-range but also use crafted arrows to turn it literally into a grenade launcher or to set fire on a camp before attack.

I just unlocked the SPAS in the southern map and will try it next time I'm in Rook island. The Trail of the Rakyat you get to play with it was where I pulled my best score so far... 450!!

fragger's loadout is very nice indeed. SPAS for unmatched close quarters combat, Shredder for immense firepower AND stealth, Z93 for long range and the bow for multiple functionalities!  :-X
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: JRD on January 06, 2013, 09:50:51 AM
I'm developing a dual loadout system for myself.

One for the main missions which eventually end up in nasty firefights where subtelty is not an option!

1 - AMR
2 - GL-94
3 - Shredder
4 - Ripper/SPAS

Another one if I want to go unnoticed taking outposts

1 - Z93 silenced
2 - Bow
3 - Shredder
4 - SPAS (well... things do go wrong, sometimes  :-() )

Having the GL-94 makes me feel so much safer! I know I can take out vehicles and groups of enemies or enemies behind cover with a single round and it really helps in moving forward. I really like the bow for its... err... aesthetics nad class... and also for its versatility for silent combat and explosive destruction. And theSPAS... oh, the SPAS... I love how it behaves on a firefight but it's reload time kills me... literally.

A mixed loadout could be

1 - Z93 silenced
2 - GL-94
3 - Bow
4 - Ripper/SPAS

The SPAS reloading process can be interrupted - if you hit your "fire" key/button while reloading, the reload will stop and the gun will fire. If the weapon is completely empty though you still have to pump that first round before any more shells can be loaded -  a hassle to be sure, with a bunch of cutthroats breathing down your neck :-\\

if you want to speed up the process, don't fire the last shot in your mag (any weapon) and hit ESC, then ESC again. Weapon completely reloaded.  :-()

The flamethrower is sure fun... either against animals, vehicles or heavies, but it is also messy and I usually end up taking some damage from my own attacks (less than I'd take if it wasn't for it, of course)

I found the Shredder extremely good agains large animals due to its high damage and fire rate. I can take tigers and bears with a burst of that beauty!
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: durian on January 07, 2013, 04:12:21 PM
I just used the flamethrower against the baddies at the comm center (after you destroy the entrance door) and when fending horde of enemies at the dish. Felt so good  ^-^

I like the Ripper. It has both power and fire rate as well but what makes me prefer it to Shredder is that it's not suppressed.

On a side note, I found the PKM suprisingly good, a LOT better than the upgraded one in FC2 in terms of sound, range, power and accuracy.
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out

Regarding the flamethrower.  Remembering to use a sideways strafing motion instead of charging in directly and also shooting from the hip instead of aiming has caused me to get well singed more times than I can count.

I've also heavily compared the Bull against the SPAS and maybe I'm just too stupid to see it but I find no edge to award to the SPAS justifying it a spot in my carry load out.  The Bull has range and knockdown force that suit my play style well.

Last night on a wanted dead mission one of Hoyt's Heavies got too close before I noticed it.  He took a moment to gloat and taunt on spotting me.  I used that same moment in what comes as close to a fast twitch reaction as I can muster and at point blank in his deep dive helmet visor gave him a "Not this time buddy!"  He went straight down as well as could be anticipated but oddly it knocked his faceplate askew which started venting green gas.  ???

What the hell, is Hoyt feeding these gorillas?  Spinach gas?  ????

If I were to assemble a typical carry load out the slots would look like this:

1. Assault weapon.  I've used this class of weapon so rarely that I've not developed a preference beyond I like something suppressed.  Spraying expensive bullets isn't my thing.  Bushmaster Signature currently loaded.

2. Pistol (no favorites) or flamethrower or grenade launcher or the Signature ultrafast .45 ACP SMG or the Signature sniper that fires the explosive rounds.  I try to select this slot with an eye on slanting any Current Objectives in my favor.

3. Permanent in this slot the Non-Signature reach out and touch someone version of that previously mentioned (in slot 2 Signature sniper with the exploding rounds).  It is suppressed, fitted with extended clip and the high magnification scope.

4. Permanent placement.  The Bull lives here.  :-D

Nice points fellas 8)

I haven't actually given the PKM a go in this game, I think my decision to avoid it has been subconsciously influenced by the "miss anything that's more than ten metres away" version in FC2. I'll give it a whirl next time I'm in :-()

For the last few years I've been shopping for a handgun that would be primarily for home defense with the thought towards comfort of use for my wife.

We've gone a few times to a local shop that has a firing range and rented a spectrum of handguns trying to find a good fit for her hand grip.  Invariably at the end of the session she comes back to my Colt 1991 A1 .45 ACP Commander as being the most comfortable grip providing her confidence of control.  While I have no problem with turning it over to her and finding another personal carry for myself in watching her handling of the Colt I'm sure it's more the custom finger grooved rubber grip (that actually grab onto your hand) I've installed in place of the original checkered hardwood grip.  It's big in her hand and reacquisition of target time suffers because of the sheer knock back power of a .45 on her much smaller than my frame.

I want to stay in at least the .40 cal to 9mm range for knockdown effectiveness reasons and as has been mentioned on another thread elsewhere in the forums the smaller caliber ammo seriously costs a lot less per practice session than keeping the Colt fed.  That said the variety of 9mm and .40 cal handguns we've tried knock her around more than my Colt because she's struggling to hang onto them before she even reaches the point of trigger pull.

So I've delayed buying something rather than commit to a less than perfect fit for her though I try to keep my eyes open for viable options.

Recently I came across a good reputable online arms dealer that ships interstate here in the U.S. through the F.F.L. (Federal Firearms Licensed network) who if for no other reason than serving as a veritable museum of what is currently available.  I even found my much beloved AS50 from FC2.  8)

Browsing the handguns by manufacturer I stumbled upon a seemingly unfamiliar company with a single simple offering which at first glance had the esthetics of a brick called the KRISS Vector SDP Super V Semi Auto .45 ACP priced around $2000 USD that on closer examination of the design and description specs really caught my attention.  The standard Glock .45 ammo magazine was forward of the trigger not in the comparatively svelte and easily encompassed hand grip.  The gas operated action which instead of operating as a standard in-line motion is redirected in an arc back and downwards in the forward housing between the trigger and ammo mag.  This design is touted as having "60% less recoil and 95% less muzzle rise".  The brick was quickly becoming a thing of beauty.

Not one to ever trust the word of manufacturers or salesmen I hauled my investigation over to YouTube and plugged in "KRISS Vector SDP" where upon the first video I encountered showed a full auto military version of the handgun.  ????   This version had an extendable folding stock for personal fit, barrel extensions (yes, there's also suppressors available), a thumb toggled selection switch that allowed for "full auto/2 shot burst/semi-auto", 2000 rounds per minute backed down to 1100 by Vector (to avoid waste I guess), flip up iron sites and accessory rails but still in the core of it all was the unmistakable 5.4 lb less than civil civilian handgun I'd thought of as a potential piece for home defense.

Trying somewhat to stay on task I pressed on and was impressed with this young slip of a lady tagging ping after ping after ping reporting the accuracy of the Vector and her skill.

KRISS Vector .45 Shooting Action (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7TVCbg8fqM#ws)

Notice her stance, the position of her arms primarily the bend of her elbows and grip on the piece.  Firing my Colt like that would probably give even me a split lip or worse establishing to my satisfaction proof positive of the significant recoil reduction claims.

And then I saw this:

Phantom Friday: The Kriss Vector Is Back with .45 ACP Incendiary Rounds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JhixBxUkOM#ws)

>:D  OH YEAH!  Give me some of that in FC3.  :-X

It occurred to me that the full auto version of this would have been a fun toy to have in FC3 and then Déjà vu smacked me in the side of the head before I could get in here and say something stupid.  Jumping into the game I spot checked the vending machine.  There in the SMGs was the Vector .45 ACP and in the Signature weapons another flavor with the Shredder.  :o

But I'm still nagged by the fact that the real world Vector handgun or carbine stands out as being more effective than the in game varieties.  :-\\

Why is a full magazine of the .45 handgun easily as effective against targets in FC3 as a full mag on either of the Vector SMG models?  I can accomplish more with less ammo which now makes me wonder if the Vectors have been accurately represented in FC3.  I don't think it's just because I'm trigger happy.  I know that there are civilian available 3rd party magazines that hold double the ammo load out in real life than the stingy FC3 developers allowed us.  :-\\

But don't get me wrong.  I would still love in FC3 to get my hands on a steady supply of those "Whoo Boy, good stuff" incendiary rounds.  ;D

My favorites:

Melee:
Tribal Knife and Tanto

1. Bizon Bz19/Magnum/Colt
2. RPG-7
3. ACE (IMI Galil)/FAMAS/AMR
4. U100/MKG

But actually I like every weapon, and ingame I did change the loadout a lot more and tried every weapon. They did a great job on all of them because it's very hard to choose between them.

Tribal knife just because it looks cool.

Shredder
Ripper
The single tube grenade launcher
Bow with explosive arrows.

Sometimes swap out the grenade launcher for something else like flamer or repair tool. Everything else I ignore pretty much. Most of it I've never bothered to equip.

currently I like

Japanese knife for the extra power and it looks nice

Shadow (1911 pistol, signature weapon)
Shredder (SMG, sw)
Bushmaster (AR, sw)
Z93 sniper rifle

All firearms are equipped with a suppressor

Which knife is the most powerful?  Strange as it seems, I enjoy using the knife in game, and even use it on stubborn animals.

there are no descriptions available regarding power except for the Tanto so I can only guess that all knives are equal with the exception of that Japanese one.

My loadout changes constantly, I like a bit of variety in my weaponry. But generally I tend to go with:

SPAS-12
Ripper
Z93 Sniper (suppressed)
Recurve Bow

I always have that last one on me, I love that thing 8)

But I do change weapons quite frequently (except the bow). I'll pack a pistol occasionally and I like the big noisy ones, the Magnum revolver and the Desert Eagle >:D But if I'm in a pistol mood and it's a matter of stealth, I'll go the Shadow.

When customising, I always go for extended mags where available.

MP5, recurve bow and SPAS12 are still my favourites but I did a nice discovery in MP: The SVD. Since it can fire rapidly without releasing the scoped vision (up to 10 rounds in customized MP setting), it's quite handy. You can take out multiple enemies with it before reloading. Planning to test it in SP setting now

Y'know, I never really gave the SVD much of a chance. Correct me if I'm wrong, that's the only semi-auto sniper rifle in the game, isn't it? All the others are bolts.

Will try it out next time :-X

Yes, indeed. Semi-automatic. I'm a bit worried though... the mods and upgrades in SP are no match for the MP ones. I think there's no hot rounds, no reduced recoil, no fast movement or faster reloading / drawing weapons. Damn, it might be a disappointment. But anyway, I'm going to try ;)
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out

I had a go of the SVD and although I do like it, I found that it doesn't do very well against the privateer heavies - the rounds just bounce off their helmets apparently. The Z93 puts them to sleep with a single headshot, and the AMD knocks them into the middle of next week no matter where you hit them (albeit noisily).
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: Dweller_Benthos on March 11, 2013, 08:06:08 AM
I've re-settled on the new load out:

#1 - Shredder - this is so powerful, it's really like cheating. Three rounds to the body for most enemies, and that's only because it fires so fast that's the smallest amount I can squeeze out with a finger twitch.
#2 - Sniper, the M700 I think it is, with high scope range and silencer. I'd really like to be able to add the bigger ammo mag, but it only takes two add-ons. Single round to the head and they are goners, two to the body. The big armored guys you can get with one head shot if they are facing away from you so their helmet doesn't block the shot, other wise, on those guys I use the
#3 - Ripper, just hold down the fire button and anything in the way gets dead real quick.
#4 - Recurve bow with explosive arrows, reach out and touch someone... with a grenade.

At this point I'd very rarely swap out the bow + explosive arrows for a grenade launcher, the RPG reload time is too long. The flame thrower and repair tool for special occasions, and I still have to kill someone with the repair tool.

I'm glad the bow is effective for most of you.  The fact you guys like the bow at the very least means that UBI didn't intentionally include something that for me anyway is the equivalent of grenades that blow up in your hand the instant you pull the pin.  ::)

I really have tried to become proficient with the bow in FC3.  While I can get the left/right axis spot on the calculations for drop at any kind of range totally eludes me.  Oddly enough when younger I was dubbed a deadeye with both recurve and compound bows by friends who would go out every year for the elk and deer bow hunts.  I would accompany them on their preseason field target practices.  It was only due to my distaste of the flavor of wild game that I would politely decline their invitations to buy my hunt tags and go along with them for the real thing.  They tended to view my disinterest in the hunts as a waste of talent verging on heresy but as a strong believer in "eat what you kill" at least for the purpose of sport I'd much rather shoot big game with a camera.  :)

It's as if the drop rate is variable and dependent on each and every specific target I'm trying to drop a bead on.  I have to admit that the only way I've ever been able to complete most of the hunter challenges that require a bow is to load up with syringes, wade in and hack at the target with a machete.

By the time I've fired three arrows the target I'm shooting at is on me.  It's either chewing on my throat or cutting me to pieces one way or another.  A baseball bat would give me better results.  I get more effective damage through open confrontation with the repair tool because it at least creates some irritation for the enemy instead of announcing "Hey, here I am!" when I'm trying to be stealthy which as I understand is supposed to be a large part of the purpose behind the bow even being in the game.  :-\\

I'd like to blow someone to mid next week too Fragger, heheh

Sorry to hear you don't like the bow so much Mandru, but I must admit it's nothing useful when hunting big wild things like tigers, bears etc. A beast like that will take 3 or even more arrows to drop dead, while any human is dead instantly with a regular arrow shot, even if you hit him in his leg. Except for the huge armoured guys in the southern Island, and the heavies in the North need a headshot from behind with it. Once you use the bow for taking over Outposts, you'll learn to love it. When I go hunting, I make sure to carry either the Bull or the SPAS12. More Bang for the Buck, heheh :-()

Mandru: The bow with regular arrows works best if you buy and use the marksman sights.

Try target practice by walking to and then away from something that reacts on impact such as explosive barrels or welding gas cylinders or even C4, preferably next to any sort of wall or fence. Alarm fuse boxes also w@&k, even in liberated outposts they will still blow up noisily. Count your footfalls if you like but somehow try to imagine the distance between you and the target, then check the marks on your sight for an appropriate distance and shoot your arrow. Remember exactly the point that lined up with the target and as soon as you hit ("boom" hehe) you got that distance right. Walking up to the target after every miss will help you determine how far off you actually were, the arrows tend to stick in the wall or, if short, lie on the ground on your way to the target.

Moving targets such as found during hunter quest are best taken out while they are running towards you. Best start to shoot them while they're still some distance away, then hit them several times before they reach you. More than once the last arrow that killed was the one I fired into the animal when it was close enough to kick it. So, the farther, the better, to stick as many arrows as possible into it :)

(That technique also saves you the pain of searching the area for the beast so you can skin it.. like that, it will almost drop to your feet or at least will be in a straight line away from you)

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with using animal repellent or the god mode syringe  :-()

Godspeed  :)

The Marksman sight is indeed quite unmissable in the beginning. Once you get a hang of it, you don't need it anymore. In MP, you can choose only one upgrade, which will be either explosive or burning arrows because you want to be sure your victim drops dead, even if you have a near miss. So no nice sight available there.  :-D But once you get a feeling for the distance, it becomes easier. I really like how an arrow gently disappears in an enemy's neck without a sound :)

SP is different in almost every aspect, so don't worry about what counts in MP, mandru :) SP, the recently added new hardest difficulty "Master" won't allow stealthy bow kills. You drop someone near other bad guys and they will all freak out.  :-D

The following is an opinion piece that I don't have the metrics to prove but I find has provided favorable usage in the game.  :-D

I've started using the BZ19 SMG and find it to be a competent second slot carry that is easily on a par or exceeds not only every other SMG but the assumed heavier class of assault rifles as well when all parameters of performance are factored in.

Its 9mm rounds allow for an easily controlled burst that is delivered at a slower rate from the large capacity helical clip so I'm not over killing and having to reload as often as I find myself doing with other weapons of its class and as I said almost every one of the assault rifles.  I've come to rely on it in silenced configuration for stealth but it's got a attention grabbing and satisfying 9mm pop without the silencer.  I wish the game's optical sights wouldn't have times where the sweet spot in the center of the reticle goes dark or muddy however that's not the fault of the BZ19 as I get that effect on every other weapon it attaches to.

That the BZ19 has better range and damage than the (in my opinion) under-balanced .45 cal Vector in it's class is a bit unrealistic but it's just a game and you gotta go with the tools that w@&k best for you, eh?

agree  :) I used the Bizon (BZ19) quite a bit in SP, too, and only changed it for the MP-5 (nowadays without suppressor) because of its accuracy. I can squeeze single bullets for headshots with that MP5 and really like the sound, too.
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: Binnatics on April 30, 2013, 09:50:26 AM
In MP the BZ19 is really too popular, probably because of its overpowered specs. Although the specs between MP and SP differ, I do believe it keeps some of its marvellous specs in SP. I think the biggest difference between SP and MP according to SMG's is the hipfire aim-assistance. Which makes all men run around like idiots using their BZ19's as if it were fire hoses :-D

Like Art, I do prefer the MP5 because of its accuracy. When the range isn't too big, it's as accurate as the F1.

Btw, I have changed the F1 for the Bushman as my favourite Assault rifle. I can use the same bursts as the F1 gives me, and when in desperate need of some extra bullets, I can still empty my mag in a single go. The other reason why I chose to use the bushman now, is the fact that I got used to the marksman sight. First, I found it blocking my overall view, but that's something I got used to. Now it doesn't bother me anymore and I love the extra accuracy ^-^

I've been a fan of the marksman sight since I first saw it :)
Title: Re: Favorite weapon load out
Post by: mandru on April 30, 2013, 11:42:29 AM
Is the difference between the different types of sights actually a physical improvement or based on the developers preferences?

In other words if I prefer one type of sight over another will my accuracy be better than if I go with the one the game makers rated higher or does the weapon actually become silly stupid because I picked the wrong sight?  :-D

When I compare options the optical sights are rated highest among the varieties available when modifying my weapon's add ons but there are times in certain lighting conditions or if I've got a lot of smoke coming off the barrel from heavy usage that my accuracy drops because I can't see clearly to access my target.

in the unmodded Single Player game there don't seem to be any differences between different sights other than how the crosshairs look. If you can't hit a target, those sights won't change that  :-D

Besides, who gives a flying fart about accuracy as long as you manage to kill. Spending one bullet or a hundred bullets.. dead is dead  :-()

There is that but you know even when I'm using the command line cheats I do try to conserve my shots and have learned to automatically swap out magazines every time there's even the slightest slack moment so that I'm not caught by an awkward reload during close quarters combat.  I hate being knocked to the ground.  Rather embarrassing that, even if I'm the only one to see it.  ;)

True, it's a minor matter of form but assists in my immersion quality.  :-D

This seemed like as good a place as any to post this.

I've been looking high and low online and as far as I can tell, the flamethrower in FC3 ("Flammenwerfer") has never existed in reality - that is, not the way it's depicted in the game. There were several models of Flammenwerfer over the years but they were all of the back-mounted tank variety, with a hose connecting the tanks to the nozzle. The one in FC3 is probably the only fully fanciful weapon in the game. All the other weapons are at least semi-realistic.

Btw, did you know that there was once a super-elite Aussie flamethrower unit during the war?

They were known as the "Flaming Skippies".
