Here is the "Adapt" campaign.  You evidently navigate using a map and handheld compass - navigation looks really cool.  I really like the way you can shoot, and see your bullets kick up dust in the distance (at 10:30 in this video).  The game looks fairly good, and the graphics are much better than I expected.

More game play - second part of the Adapt part of the campaign.  So far, I am continuing to be impressed. Chernarus looks much better than in ArmA II, and there is no distracting multi-voice speak, which always detracted from II.  This video kind of reminds me of FC2, but in a much more realistic way.

So far, this appears to be orders of magnitude better than the game play in FC4

Dang, the opening of this video reminds me of FC2 complete with the rusted corrugated steel buildings, to the stucco of some of the buildings.

The best part of this video - you control your squad using voice commands rather than the clunky menu system of ArmA II.  You can control the entire squad as a unit, or even individual members.  For instance, you can tell a single member to hide in a specific spot, stay hidden, and watch the area to a specific compass point.

I might get this game after all - so far I have seen nothing in the videos that even remotely resembles the stupid foolishness reported by fragger and nexor in FC4.  This is pure and simple warfare.  I like it.

Just discovered that voice activated commands is a separate program that costs $, but it looks worth it for the ease of controlling your AI.

Here's a tutorial on how to control your squad in the vanilla game

Another campaign mission with voice commands.  Even without the voice commands, the missions are completely open world without any foolishness.  You really need to figure things out, and use your imagination, much like in FC2

I just started "Adapt; part 1". It's the first mission on Altis, after abandoning Stratis with the enemy on our heels. It is not as easy as it looks like. I killed a couple of soldiers, but got injured during the battle. There is no medic to fix you up, so I kept stumbling around hoping to find a med kit. I did find a FAK but that only cures heavy wounds and won't heal you properly. It's like a quick fix untill you get some decent cure. While still searching I got surprised by another guerrilla, and he shot me. It's a tense game. But the true open world is opening up now, on Altis. That is quite a welcome change after all the strict squad-operations. This is more like surviving and finding your own path. I already had an assault riffle and a map and some armour. Will continue tomorrow. Bedtime now ;)

Looking forward to your impressions, especially now that I have seen some video

Nice going Binn.  :-X

I didn't play much this weekend since it's summer in Brazil and I want to be outside whenever I can. I am still struggling to get back to my base. This is as tough as I remember it was in the past but it's a cool game.  :-X

I know what you mean, JRD - I too find it difficult to find time in the summer to do much gaming because the great outdoors always calls my name.  In the winter however, there is nothing outside that is interesting me just yet - only cold and wet right now, not even any snow

I've five "G" keys on my keyboard that I will eventually map to my most often used key combinations, and half a dozen mouse functions for which I can create macros.  I think a gaming keyboard/mouse combo will be a real benefit in this game

Binnatics

I'm interested in this macro thing. Wonder if it is possible for me too. I have a gaming mouse, but no gaming keyboard. Actually thinking about that now. I still don't see myself speaking to an AI team. My wife would think I'm going nuts ::)

Although I'm not positive, I suspect that a gaming mouse of any manufacturer will have some kind of system tray software that you can start, and map your mouse buttons/wheel to game functions.  My Logitech mouse has several game profiles that are indicated by color, and you can easily switch from game to game.  I've profiles for AC, JC2, and FC2.  Now, I plan to add ArmA3  :-()

Binnatics

Yes, my mouse has that as well. I should dig into it one time :)

Here's a short video about how you can look around while running

Just uploaded my first 60 fps video - nothing special, but it does suggest the potential for high quality video.  I have the native link rather than embedded because it is best to view full screen, and you can (and should) choose at least the resolution 720P60 or higher.  The "60" indicates 60 fps video - kind of cool

Video looks great if you choose 1080P60 and watch full screen
