Title: Diamonds videos
Post by: Dweller_Benthos on April 13, 2009, 07:14:33 AM
Here's the diamond videos I did. Four parts, combined length of 23 minutes or so. I just didn't think to make them as individual clips, that would've been a lot easier. D'oh!

North part one:

[smg id=74 type=av align=center]

North part two:

[smg id=75 type=av align=center]

South part one:

[smg id=73 type=av align=center]

South part two:

[smg id=72 type=av align=center]

Sorry about how dark some of them are, it seems the HDR doesn't translate well, I'll have to try turning that off next time I take vids.

Oh yeah, there's also some of the more obscure gold AK-47s in there, along with some car hopping, and boat juggling, just for fun.

Nice w@&k D_B!  There are glider diamonds I've not been able to find before that should be much easier to get to after watching the vids.  8)

Very interesting stuff there, D_B. I was just thinking, you showed me places I must have totally missed when I came through those areas. I mean, especially that shack with the golden AK47, that's apparently right next to a road which I don't remember to ever have used... funny that. :)

A sidenote, I have just finished watching those diamond-vids and before that those trainer vids. I think I'll give that a try myself. The stuff you did with it made me chuckle and I thought to myself, look, there really are peeps out there who are at least as crazy as I  ;D

Good w@&k there, thanks for all that and the time you spent doing it

Thanks everyone. I think I'll re-do the diamond vids with more brightness and each one a separate file, make them easier to link to the maps.

I've started to make a new set of videos, each diamond in a single vid this time. New vid capture technique as well, that's a lot less hassle. I still have to tweak the brightness settings in the game to make the deep shadow ones visible on video though.

Anyway, here's the first one, the big rock near the North Railyard

Excellent videos D_B.
The zoom in your current position is a great idea. Very haelpfull to users to see where you are.

Post by: Dweller_Benthos on April 15, 2009, 07:24:22 AM
Yeah, I just figured out that technique last night. Pinnacle Studio can do lots of things I never bothered to look at. I just need to pause with the map out a little longer to give the zoom more time to look at the map. Otherwise, it's pretty useless to have the map out since you can't really see what it's showing on a youtube video.

Oh... that pinnacle thing!!
You asked me to upload a video I was having trouble to convert to a format recognized by youtube and windows media player.
I just forgot what post it was in, so I'll reply here instead!!
The video is about 700 MB, so I'm also having trouble uploading it to rapidshare or megaupload
Its just a video of some gameplay, nothing too cool to bother with and besides, I figured out what I was doing wrong so never mind about that!
Thanks though for stepping up to it, I appreciate

I have Pinnacle Studio also - never really thought of using it for this kind of thing - have mainly processed TV shows, etc - thanks for the tip D_B.  It looks like I'll need to make a list of the diamond videos that I need to add to the maps!  :)

Diamond Under Goka Falls - had to crank the gamma & brightness and reduce contrast a lot to get this one to be visible on youtube, so it almost looks like black & white

Great videos D_B. The one in Goka Falls is quite bright indeed, but I think i's how it should be so if someone is having trouble finding a diamond, it will be helpfull!

You know the glider one I hate is the Weelegol Village one, where you have to steer your way around cliff to the other side.

Fantastic w@&k D_B,

Will get to adding to the maps as soon as all the rest of the forums bugs are worked out.

My pleasure JRD,
I was thinking that it is a good thing that the mercs on FC2 don't have a gizmo like that or my all time fav, the 6P9 would be useless!

Great vids D_B....
I know I've collect all diamonds in Leboa but watch your vids just to see how you get there!
Title: Re: Diamonds videos
Post by: PZ on April 17, 2009, 07:23:26 AM
Because I've collected little to none of the diamonds you illustrate D_B, I greatly appreciate the w@&k that you've done!  In fact, I've tried to find some of the gliders (like the one near the northern rail yard), but gave up until I saw your clips.

D_B, great vids. It looks so easy when you collect them.  They were all particularly hard with the gliders, but the one at Goka falls when you ran along the rocks was the best.  I tried that 50 times until finally tried the gliders successfuly and that ended being the second to last when I went back to the North to finish getting all the diamonds.  Again great w@&k in showing us that they are attainable.

Ahhh, you got the Gorka Falls rock hopping one, I was wondering if you tried it.  nice vid.

All of D_B's latest individual diamond videos are added to the maps.  You might check the northeast region of Leboa (http://openworldgames.org/MapPages/LeboaRegionPages/NorthEast.htm) - this one has elements of almost all the hotlink map icons (except the FC2 mission icon).  Here is a legend of what you will see on the maps:Don't forget that you can click the major location on those maps to see the high detail version.

Glad eveyone likes them or finds them useful. Remember, to save time, I do these with AI turned off, so I don't have to worry about someone shooting at me! Of all the diamonds so far, there's maybe a couple or three that absolutely need a hang glider, a lot of them have a trick rock hop to get to them that takes a lot less time and effort.

I'll be working on a few more over the weekend, and should have them ready for upload Monday (it would be really nice if I had broad band at home - oh well) if I miss any, let me know.

Although I can't speak for everyone, I thing your efforts are well appreciated.  The next time I play through I'm going to check the maps and watch your videos on my iPhone as I play on the console - what a great way for us not so experienced players to find "troublesome diamond" solutions.  Thanks for the w@&k that you do D_B
Title: Re: Diamonds videos
Post by: JRD on April 17, 2009, 07:50:12 PM
Oh yeah... D_B's maps and vids are extremely helpfull to me.
I know the maps in the Primaguide have some misplaced diamonds, which makes me mad. Worst than not having a map, is to have a wrong map. So D_B's effort to provide us with trustworthy info is outstanding in many ways.
I know I've said it before, but  THANK YOU D_B... keep up the good w@&k ;)
You are the core of this site........... no prejudice to other fellow members, of course...
Title: Re: Diamonds videos
Post by: PZ on April 17, 2009, 08:02:20 PM
I agree,
I never would have setup a site if not for D_B's outstanding w@&k with the maps.  Because the old farcry2world was an excellent forum, my original idea was to have a site dedicated only to dissemination of D_B's maps and to use farcry2world for the communications.  Then, when farcry2world went down we had nowhere to go, hence the formation of this site.  The ironic thing is that I posted the link to the original maps site on farcry2world only one day prior to it going belly up.  Spaceboy was the only member that had visited so he knew of the original site and he was the first to find it.  He and I were a forum of two for a while!  It wasn't too long before we found JRD and D_B on other forums ... enough of the history lesson...

The videos are the icing on the cake for me.  Keep up the great w@&k my friend.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, I wouldn't be doing it if it weren't fun of some sort.

And now on to the last batch of videos:

[smg id=118 type=av align=center caption="Weelegol Village, rock hop & hang glider"]

[smg id=119 type=av align=center caption="Further east of the Fort, walk up the rocks"]

[smg id=120 type=av align=center caption="The one west of the south Oasis"]

[smg id=121 type=av align=center caption="In the shack at the OGC"]

[smg id=122 type=av align=center caption="The U-Turn hang glider flight over the river"]

[smg id=123 type=av align=center caption="Under the bridge, through the river, on the rocks"]

[smg id=124 type=av align=center caption="Near the waterfall, you can also walk along the dead trees instead of rock-hopping"]

[smg id=125 type=av align=center caption="Up on the roof, and in the church tower"]

[smg id=126 type=av align=center caption="The long flight one, or you can now just rock-hop"]

Don't know if anyone has found the rock hop route to the last one or not, I didn't know about it, just found it by accident. That makes only three that absolutely need a hang glider, as far as I know.

Excellent as always D_B...
I managed to reach that diamond case north of Rail Xing through the rock hop. Didn't know about a glider till I check your maps carefully

I really appreciate your w@&k D_B, I for one have already used your videos to find a couple of diamonds that I've passed many times, but did not find until recently - the one west of the crash site and the one to the east of the Dogon village.

erm... I don't know what happened with the post of D_B with the batch of vids when I just read this thread. It showed "[ limit reached ]" a couple of times. Now that I am replying, I can see down this editor box the other posts, and there are those vids. strange.

Truly strange, I've never seen that one before - has anyone else had this issue? (I hope it is isolated...)

PZ, oddly enough I was checking the results of the OFP2 poll and vids there disappeared, but when I when back to site features and then reloaded it they were there.  First time it happened, I'll keep an eye out.

I tweaked the gallery settings to increase the number if embedded images per page so this should probably fix the problem.  Let me know if you continue to experience the same error.

Yeah, it looks like it's working now. What had happened, I posted the thing originally, then saw a typo, hit the quick edit button, fixed it, then saved and it had the  limit problem. Went back to the main edit screen and reposted, and it seemed to w@&k.

Here's another one, in the North Railyard itself. Someone posted a comment on one of my other vides on Youtube and said something about this one, at least I think it's this one they meant. I never thought it was very hard to get, but here you go.

[smg id=136 type=av align=center caption="If you're playing the game, it might be better to kill the mercs first, otherwise they might take exception to you stealing their diamonds."]

hmmm..... for some reason, I can't post text or video responses on Youtube - anyone have any experience with that? I try either one and nothing shows up.

These are really cool!

I had kinda given up on collecting them, I just pick them up now, if they are easy as some of them were taking too long (usually I would be mid mission) and I either died or wasted alot of time trying to figure out a path up that particular mountain.

These will be a huge help to me, thanks :)
