Title: FC2 mission-kill Seth Uniya
Post by: PZ on November 06, 2014, 08:26:20 AM
Lots of new attack sniper sppots illustrated in this album: Google album (https://plus.google.com/photos/110957275165794846081/albums/6078478322132492945?authkey=CN3R99_X57-YOg)

The mission: kill Seth at the Polytechnic.  My buddy wants me to go to Sepoko and pick up some documents.  Continuing playing the modded game, I found a new high point from which to attack the guard post with the railroad track running through the center (the one on the way to Polytechnic)

Then off to Sepoko via my usual route on the far eastern side of the map.  There is a valley with a high fence you normally cannot pass - you can see the desert to the east, but can't go through, which would be a perfect place to attack Sepoko from the east.  However, using the high jump, I was able to navigate past the fence, sneak up on the area from the east, and even find a really high rock from which to snipe just about everyone.  The rocket man cannot even see me from his position.

Then off to Sepoko.  I found another high spot (like the one fragger found) that is not normally accessible, but is with careful high jumping specific rocks.  Here's a video:

I'm a strong guy in the game - 65 Molotovs and 65 grenades.

Damn.......... with all that you don't even have to fire a single shot, it's raining "grenatovs"   :-D

  :-X

True; I did not need to rain bullets on too many of them - the fire took care of most everyone.  Next time I'll try grenades in addition to Molotovs to see if I can kill the entire area using only those two munitions.  >:D

grenades are a better bet because mercs won't shy away from them. With a molotov, they'd go, "fire, fire, we've got a wildfire coming in," yet they'd either back away from it or sit tight and stare at the fire until it's out. With a grenade, they'd go, "watch out, grenade up ahead" (if they manage to finish that sentence, that is) and just blow up.  :-D Well, sometimes they do run away from a grenade but if you shoot one of them with a silenced weapon such as the 6p9 before it blows up, everyone will stop in their tracks and then blow up just nice.  :-()

  I remember you posting that technique a long time ago - haven't tried it yet.  However, first I think I'll throw the Molotovs because I like to see what they do.  Then a grenade chaser should do the trick.  >:D

It's in the downloads if you ever want to try it  >:D

Only downside is that it only had a 30 round magazine for the AR-16

I've forgotten all of what it does, but Art is helping me remember, and playing in-game also helps.  The following covers most if not all of what it does:

- it's without the vibrant colour mod

- but it does ramp up your reputation some time soon after you start, probably after the first faction mission. I checked my start savegame (rep 0) so that rep5 hit me way too early by comparison, I was still in Pala.

- it also completely rids you of malaria (except the scripted fits)

I have some kind of color mod - might not be the one called "vibrant color", but it is certainly vibrant color on my screen

I don't think my rep is rising, because I'm in Bowa and the mercs still treat me with disrespect.  ????

Good to know about malaria - I don't really like that aspect of the game  :-X

I think your vibrant colours are not modded within the patch.dat/.fat but are a result of something called SweetFX or FX injector or something similar which works for various games and needs to be copied into the game folder.

hehe, respect and reputation.. I think modding it the way this mod does, doesn't change what the mercs think of you. As far as I can tell, my rep5 is worth some rep1 or 2. I also believe that the game tells those mercs what to say and do depending on your story progression, not on the rep shown in the journal, because I recall mercs telling stories to one another that were related to your recent deeds which again were related to the main mission.

However your mod really cures malaria  :-() Which is amazing. One of the most annoying "perks" of this game was the constant "need" for malaria fits.

Having a malaria attack in the middle of a firefight is a major bummer :D

I once had a malaria attack while drowning and being shot at.

just an update: with PZ's mod and a fresh playthrough using it, I just had my first "random" (as opposed to scripted) malaria attack 50% game completion and 8.5* hours into the game. Happened near Mosate and I took my LAST pill without an underground mission pending. Remember, I skipped that last underground mission. Hehe, let's see what happens next.  :-()

*correction: 18.5 hours

I decided to go back to a previous savegame because I haven't done any arms dealer missions and they get cancelled out once you're in the South -- that's why you get to see the message "new weapons available" which I always found awkward; now I know that it can make sense.

Good find  :-X

Let us know how the malaria thing turns out.  I'm still using old saved games, particularly one at 4%, which is the point where you exit the Church after completing the initial tutorial missions.  I have not tried a completely fresh start.

Currently I'm doing all those left-over side missions such as arms dealer and cell tower missions. I keep seeing "find someone who can provide medicine" which I keep ignoring :-()

that's what savegames are for. :-D It's not as bad as long as the notification remains in my objectives but I was a bit worried when I was in the South and the first ever malaria attack hit me. I downed the last pill and.. had no idea whether or not I'd get a) another attack or b) a medicine mission on time. So, to kill two birds with one stone, I went back (savegame) to get that notification again and to do those Northern arms dealer missions which had disappeared in the South.

another update on PZ's mod:

I just happened to check the weapon stats and it struck me that the silent MP5, the flame thrower, the MAC-10 and the dart rifle are all maxed-out. I think the dart is originally like that, but definitely not the other three weapons. I reckon PZ modded them "just in case" he wanted to have fun with those and ended up using the 6P9, AS50 and AR-16, forgetting about the rest.  :-()

Not surprised - those are weapons that I use on occasion  >:D

;D the MAC-10 is damn accurate using short bursts (got recoil), same goes for the MP5 which doesn't have any recoil just like the AR-16. I think the AR-16 packs more punch than the other two. I haven't tested the flame thrower yet  :)

Good to know  :-X

Well, about malaria:

I did all those side missions and when the last main mission came up, I accepted the underground mission in the church but never went to see those guys in their underground house. Instead, I took on the mission to kill the guy at Goka Falls which triggered the Reuben-at-Lumber mission and that cancelled out the pending malaria pills mission. Now I'm in the South, defended the barge at the marina and am ready to do what I want. Game time 21:15 hours, longer than before I reverted to the savegame, and still no malaria attack. So I think it's somehow scripted because it should already have hit me regarding total game time by comparison. We'll see :)

Well, I'm not as analytical as you are, AB, but I think I am experiencing something similar.  I'm in Bowa at 65% and still have not experienced an attack.
Title: Re: FC2 mission-kill Seth Uniya

hehe, I enjoy analysis  :-D

And indeed, I just got my malaria attack (after finishing my first free-choice arms dealer mission) and sucked on my last pill. So it is scripted, a matter of "once you're in the south, after doing the barge stuff, you are free to do what you want BUT you'll have to enjoy a malaria fit first."

I suspect it is scripted so that you are left with just one pill which you have to use to get the Southern underground missions going.

So far, 50% completion, I only have 2 underground missions completed, looking at my stats. One was obviously the very first and mandatory malaria pills mission and the other one must have been me going to help the guys in the church rather than my buddy (there was only Quarbani left) when the decision had to be made.

some 2 or 3 hours more, a few side missions in, still no malaria nor an underground mission. I think malaria attacks won't happen unless scripted. Also, I think the underground mission will be triggered by taking on and completing a main story mission.

By the way, jumping allows to hop over the prison and go to the landing zone etc, heart of the jungle, and back. Just did that  :)

Nice!  :-X

Reminds me of the fence across the valley south of Sepoko - can't get past without the high jump.  It is nice to turn the game into an even more open world

yep, I wonder why they didn't make the world more accessible in the first place. However, I have already scoped the entire area behind the prison which will be funny to see in the end game, sniper and ammo positions already on my map..  :-()

I know what you mean about the developers not making it more accessible from the start.  In particular when one has played the game long enough, you begin to recognize slanted rocks that you can perch upon.  Interestingly there is one such rock ledge near one of the outposts that is just perfect to snipe all the gunboats.  However, without the high jump, there is no way you can get to it.  Makes me feel like the developers are getting their jollies thinking how they have frustrated gamers at that spot.

Another place comes to mind that I have tried unsuccessfully to navigate (without high jump) - the area at the western edge of the airport in Bowa that is adjacent to the main north/south road.  I'm going to try that one some day - probably not soon since AC:5 comes out this evening  >:D
