Art's post made me thought about a picture gallery of fine details we find in FC2....
The DEAGLE pic should be the first...
[smg id=487]
But I want to add a screenshot of the 30 years old whisky mercs drink: Pollak Connection!
[smg id=488]
And I also took the liberty of adding D_B's Milky Way.... Axios can take a screnshot of the Big Bear and post it here...
[smg id=375]
There are many others scattered around, so if you find one already posted, re-post it here, or if you find any other detail not yet mentioned... this is the place... ;)
thank you JRD :)
This is a very nice idea of you, details are just great in this game... a promising topic :-X
[smg id=381]
Great idea guys, now I have yet something else to do in the game! :-X
This is probably going to be a topic you PCers will have to populate. Coming from the PS2 to the PS3 I'm hella-impressed with the graphics, but it doesn't seem to match the detail in the PC version for these little gems.
Of course, it could just be me and my lack of observational skills -you can ask DKM2 about that :P
Probably so, spaceboy, it is so easy to capture screen images with the PC - anywhere you are, you can simply push a button and you have an image recorded - really cool - of course, when you build your new PC...
Neat, I wonder if it says "Wilson" on the soccer ball, have to go back and look.
If then you find a bloody handprint on it, perhaps Tom Hanks isn't far either.
I didn't know until now FC2 indeed uses M-67 hand grenades... read for yourselves.
[smg id=495]
this is an incredible thread, I'm loving the detail.
I wonder if the tires on the trucks have a brand?
same here...
well, look what we got...
Canadian Water Pumps in Africa LOL
[smg id=496]
btw, the tires have no brand I recognise, just some imprinted stuff as far as I recall.
But, examine this clock (found at the fort in Leboa)
It's not 1-12 hours... LOL
[smg id=497]
Here is one I already posted in the "Post a line" thread
[smg id=185]
NO TRESPASSING:
Violators will be shot: survivors wil be shot again!
I just love the sentence....... ;D
hehe yeah :-X I like that pic, funny ;D
Here's two books... Brockhaus and Shakespeare LOL
[smg id=498]
[smg id=499]
Man.. good literature, good liquor... who those mercs think they are???
Don't worry... just shoot 'em ;D

Fantastic detail posts guys - great job! :-X

hahaha! Maybe I should have written "merc, going AAaaaaaaaaarrrrrgh" ;D
haha, yeah, good one! This morning I cleared out the southwest Bowa safe house using just my buggy - ran over all three - kind of fun actually, using the vehicle as a weapon!
just happened upon a large truck
[smg id=592]
[smg id=593]
takes its time but goes over 100!
In the top image, that looks like the cross hair of the AS50 - cool
it is, it does magnify best.
Here is some Coffee Liquor I saw while playing earlier..
[smg id=595]
here you can see the best time for speeding is night time. Assault truck at 125km/h :)
[smg id=604 align=center width=400]
wow, I wonder if the merc vehicles can catch you at that speed...
of course they can. You see, depicted is the last step before you reach "free fall". The question is, who's first to reach it, and who's last to survive ;D
A couple of new ones...
No idea on this one, but sounds Spanish or Portuguese...
[smg id=619]
Isn't "moule" French for mussel?
[smg id=620]
Great pics PZ, I see how you enjoy the prt sc key ;)
cacaopia means nothing in Portuguese and as far as I know, nothing in Spanish either.
Maybe its a joke with Cacau, the tree whose fruits are used to make chocolate :) ... I expect anything from mercs (and devs too ;))
"la vieille moule" means "the old mussle" but moule has different meanings, among others "role model / example". Maybe it's kind of an easter egg or insider joke, probably depicting a friend or a staff member.
"Cacaopia" doesn't mean a thing in Spanish. Funny though the components: "Cacao" (cocoa) or "caca" (crap) "pia" (pious). First idea it gave me was "Cocoa from Ethiopia" :)

Yeah, the picture of the bearded gentleman on the label might be one of the devs, or perhaps one of the project leaders - who knows - would be very funny if it was. I have seen a photo of the development group somewhere, will check it out.
You're correct JRD, I sure do love that PrtScn key! :-X
Who knew you needed a cash register in Africa when killing mercs. ;D I found this in an Underground safehouse.
[smg id=695]
And even if there's cash in it, its worthless ;D ;D
funny thing, when you look at the cash register, the buttons are in random order and some have odd numbers. The amount shown on that "display" could not be typed in using those buttons :)
hmmmm.... that's interesting about the buttons - secret code to something maybe?
haven't thought about that... LOL you're cool ;D I think the only codes we have is either CD or "additional content/promotional content" on the main menu. But if I remember correctly, both contain letters. The cash register doesn't show letters on the buttons. So, I guess there's no secret...
For all you Scotch aficionados...
[smg id=708]
The mercs at the Ranger station (aka resort) seem to like Scotch quite a bit...
I didn't realize until I approached the Unimog from below that the thing is 4x4. That certainly explains why it does so well off-road!
[smg id=709]
I guess that I need glasses more than I originally thought...
Talk about a rogue... Major Oliver Tambossa
[smg id=710]
... a man with attitude...
It can still get stuck on very pointy rocks, deeper water than the rest, oh and unless your going fast enough to clear it, the Unimog makes a rather fetching hat for Ascot Day.....
Very true, but it can clear rocks that the other vehicles can't - you know, one of my favorite parts of the DLC is the vehicle choice now available. I like the ATV because it can climb like a billy goat, and I appreciate the Unimog for it's brute force, plus off-road capabilities.
I still like the new weapons, but I normally use them on a new game start - until I can purchase my favorite load out later in the game. The silent shotty and the explosive crossbow can't be beat when your only other option is a Makarov!
one day... one day... ;D

Mercs read UZI magazine... so much for those Shakespeare books you found Art......
[smg id=751]
Also, before throwing a molotov, check out how they are bottled... ON 120 YEARS OLD WINE BOTTLES!!!!!!
[smg id=750]
[smg id=755]
heh, the Shakespeare was in their leader's room, the pawns read the "good" stuff ;)
Great details JRD! :-X
I really like this details thread - kind of encourages me to look around a bit more in the game.
A fine French brandy?

[smg id=768]

Yes, it does - the label "Cognac" and the shape of the bottle lead me to believe that it was a quality brandy. :-X

OBVIOUSLY. I mean, you haven't heard the mercs in town talking about it?
"Hey, got a proposition for you."
"Let me guess. That guy took two bottles of the good stuff?"
"Yep, two bottles of the good stuff I brought back from Mexico City. I'll give you two if you go and teach him a lesson."
"Hmm...Two bottles of the good stuff and a small rock, then I'll break his left arm."
"Deal. Come see me after"
So not only do these guys drink fine French brandy, even the grunts on the streets have diamonds to pay with? Dam, why can't I rob them?
because you're the only merc in Africa who knows how to find hundreds of diamonds in suitcases ;)
What I'd like to know is some of the diamonds are right beside some poor schmuck that's dead. How come his Killer(s) didn't take that case? I'm not complaining, but inquiring minds want to know.
Maybe there were no killers, and the poor schmucks just died of a sudden and severe case of blood loss :)
Maybe they died of the Swine flu.
Watch that terminology, the pork farmers will have you head! ;D
the swines might give him a heads up ;)
reckon the diamond corpses had a sudden flash of prescience, decided a self-administered end was going to be quicker, cleaner and fair bit less painfull than what i have in store for them ;)

One question...is the road kill fresh? Gotta know so the spicing to be correct.

as for the road-kill spice recipe, rub the tyres and bumpers of your car with spices and herbs and then those rub off on the kills.

that would be minced meat then, I suppose? ;D
My mechanic is working on the front axle. He says that the ring and pinion need replacing, and he can do it for a few diamonds right in the field...
[smg id=843]
Using the flare gun works great. It is a weapon that you need to practice with quite a bit to become proficient - kind of like the mortar.
This poor soul shouldn't have been standing in dry grass...
[smg id=844]
There are many flammables and lots of mercs, so fires are a handy tool for quick dispatch. I'm standing on top of the cinder block building (the one with the diamond on the roof)

man, now I'm chuckling even harder ;D I like the pic "nah, it's nothing" in the previous post of yours, lol... did you set him on fire or is it the launch of that RL? Looks funny... I often laughed about that "nah, it's nothing" ;D
you mean those? I changed the boots, since Ricamundo commented on the trainers being the fugliest shoes he saw lol
[smg id=812]
He just launched a rocket while his "friend" uttered that nonsense. Other laughable times for instance, are when fires are threatening to engulf the entire area (barrels and tanks exploding, fires everywhere...) and some fool asks if we've heard about Ned...
lol, here's another one I recently heard for the first time - a conversation between two mercs when they realize the fight is on (I don't recall the exact words, but paraphrasing):
- Merc 1: "Hey, you go out there and I'll cover you..."
- Merc 2: "Are you nuts??? You go out there and I'll cover YOU... how about that???" (the really funny part was hearing the incredulity in Merc 2's voice!)
yeah, I heard those when my level of ah, what's it, not sickness, the other one... rose to something like 3 or 4... reputation I think it was (sorry, a little confused due to ArmA2)
Also funny, during merc wars, one got in the line of fire and they went like
- get the hell out of my way!
- sorry man!
lol
I found a diamond briefcase near a GP in Bowa that had a bunch of passports lying nearby. I was on the PS3 so I didn't get a chance to take a screen capture, but i did notice that there seemed to be two different kinds. One that read "Passport" and another that read "Passeport"

That the one with the pile of burning passports? IIRC the red ones say Pirates Vs. Ninjas and the blue ones say UBISOFT FTW or something to that effect.
Thanks TheFishlord - I wondered what the passports read because I could not make it out on the PS3. :-X

One of my favourite albums - "The Best of LOS 3 dell rio"!

Great details caps fragger! :-X
If that is one of the players that is playing music in the game so the question: is the music playing actually Los 3 del Rio?
Good question PZ, I had music turned off and it didn't occur to me to find out. Next time! Btw, it was in Port Selao.
the music they play on the FC2 "radio" between Reuben's interviews and political announcements is interesting - does anyone know anything about it? (I don't think it's los 3 del rio)

I love the extent they took to put in the details. Those images on the "Ubisoft" passport are probably of developers I'd bet.

The other is UBISOFT ELITE. Nice pat on their back but better for us cuz someone here noticed.

Seen him so many times, but only now had the idea to scan him... the sniper at Port Selao :)
Sniper at the main town? Where is he found - I don't seem to recall seeing a sniper.
Great pic by the way :-X
cheers :) Usually he is down the road near the clinic - if you are in front of the clinic, I mostly see him to the right. He just walks around there.
I get it - he's one of the town guys, Being a bit dense, I thought that you meant that this was a sniper that was active at his trade ;D
that is exactly why I took that pic - he must be active, else the monocular wouldn't turn green :)
I wonder what he's up to though since he doesn't attack you. Have you noticed if the mounted machine guns also cause the monocular to turn green?
yes, they do. Well, if you take a snapshot with the monocular of the sniper or one of the mounted guns, all mounted weapons will show on your map. The sniper should, too, but he doesn't. Probably because he's walking.
By the way, if you take a scout snapshot of a vehicle (like at the Post Office), it will show on your map, but once you destroy it, it will never show again. Strange :)
Ahhh, I just love ribs cooked on a car trunk barbecue! Who's up for some?

DEATH TRAP!
I found this on my first play through. My diamond nearby alert was pinging green and I was searching wildly for gems to buy gear. (I made a side trip on my current game to get these screen shots)
[smg id=1551 align=center width=210]
For location the green arrow is under my left thumb and up on the hill I see something.
[smg id=1547]
So I scramble up.
[smg id=1546]
It sure looks like some kind of mine entrance.
[smg id=1545]
Should I risk it?
Well I did, and it is just what it looks like, a hole with no way out. I had to drop a few grenades at my feet and have my buddy come retrieve me.
I know of another death trap that I'll get around to documenting later.
lol, how did your buddy get you out? ;D
erm, on an aside, I can't see your first pic in thumbnail mode. When I enlarge it, I can (see below). same goes for gallery. I don't know why it is so, and I didn't see anything unusual about it - the code looked normal. Strange.
(pic removed)
*Shrugs*
It was working when I left. Maybe I exceeded upload limitations or something.
I guess I should warn you I'm a magnet for weirdness. If it's weird and lurking out there it will find me. I'm just waiting for the comet with my name on it. :P
No, filesize was alright, filename too, and you have no limitation regarding count of pics. <shrugs, too> ;D
It showed up fine in your post. :-X
as well as in your post ;)
If you are curious, go into edit mode for your own post to check the code. :)
OK Art I see that you edited the first screen shot link to read:
[~smg id=1548 align=center width=210]
But over on my previous screen shot post:
http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=34.msg15913#msg15913
I didn't include the additional code "align=center width=210]" and it seems to be working just fine.
Also when I look at the Gallery preview on the OWG Home Page this same screenie is missing out of the line up but can still be summoned by clicking the picture title?
I was sure I loaded and set it up with exactly the same upload steps as the previous 3 pictures from this series. Did I overlook something obvious?
I made the same observations and asked the same questions. Nothing I could see was "wrong". How about you upload it again? If that new one works, delete the other one and replace the image id in your post (I will delete the link in my post so it won't be another dead picture ;) )
Usually you don't need align and width values, but now you see how they affect the pic :)
Thanks Art, I've swapped in the reload and deleted the screen shot with problems.
hehe, solved :)
just in case, people, with FireFox, STRG+F5 causes the browser to flush the cache and reload the page entirely. A simple F5 only reloads the page.
RE: Death trap, I found that spot you posted about, mandru. I climbed up and like you, curiousity got the better of me, so I jumped in. Now here's the interesting part, I fell halfway down and got stuck. Also like you, I tried dropping some grenades to prompt a rescue, but being halfway down the 'nades fell to the bottom where the distance from the blast was insufficient to do me any harm. So then I tried throwing them up, thinking that they'd go off by the time they fell back to where I was, but instead they just stuck to the walls above me and went off there, still causing me no hurt. I ended up using my M79 on the wall in front of me, that did the trick.
I repeated this exercise several times and always ended up getting stuck halfway down. Must point out that I did a save before I attempted any of this. Which brought to light something I hadn't noticed before. The first time I did this, Xianyong was my rescuer. Rescue me he did, and then without reloading the game I jumped straight back in. This time when I did the M79 trick, I didn't get rescued, I just died. So, the question is, is it not possible to be rescued twice in a row for the same death? It was like Xianyong thought, "bloody idiot, I'm not rescuing you twice for doing the same stupid thing!"
You know what fragger? Now that you mention it the hole does taper down and you grenades fall farther beyond where you get stuck enough so that they don't give blast damage. I also used the M-79 on the wall to summon my rescue buddy. I had forgotten that detail.
As for your question about the Rescue Buddy not showing up a second time. Once they have rendered that service you have to get to a Safe House and reactivate them as Rescue Buddies before they will go back on duty again.
Thanks for the rescue buddy info, mandru. Now that you mention it, I think it has been covered in the forums somewhere.
But cheers all the same! :-X
Does anyone know what this thing is?
[smg id=1605]
I found this old screenpic, but I can't for the life of me remember where it was.
[smg id=1606]
Isn't the Item you were asking about a pistol stand for displaying several handguns at once?
As for the photo I'm stumped on that one. Have seen it but unless it's in King Neree's (sp?) office I'm not sure.
I've not noticed either one, but will be sure to watch out for them :-X
the first pic indeed is a pistol stand, the second pic shows a pic on the desk of one of the faction leaders' "office" where you all have been taking on countless missions ;D
[smg id=1607 align=center width=400]
A pistol stand, of course... I thought it looked like a couple of pipe racks ;D
Cheers Art, so that's where it was :-X I guess when we've just been given a pocketful of diamonds and a nice new manila folder, and we're all gung-ho over getting a new mission, we tend not to notice what's in the corner behind the goon on the door ;D
I knew Art would have information on these :-X
... sometimes I think he must have been one of the developers of this game ;D
Haha ;D ;D
Art's like a one-man Wikipedia on all things FC2 :)
you guys make me laugh in delight ;D ;D ;D
First of all, deadman's pic is missing here in this topic, so I post it again. He found that in June this year. Today, I finally (by accident) found it too :) It's near the Marina in Bowa, about opposite of the graveyard by the road where that blue AT is stationed.

Isn't that the sacrifice pit East of the bus stop in S.E. Bowa?
After walking through that to get the diamond case I always jump down off that rock ledge into the water and wade across if only to psychologically rinse my feet off before getting back into my AT.
Hey have you ever noticed that if you use a flame thrower on a pile of potatoes they look like they've cooked up quite nicely. Yum. :)
mandru, you are right about the location, there is a briefcase in there, and a dead merc, too. But I didn't want to spoil the image :)
Did you guys realise I posted twice, like did you see the wireless screwdrivers? I found those quite interesting, next to the blow torches.
I once watched a merc use one of those on a plane, see this old pic:
[smg id=174 align=center width=400]
Is there really any limit to the details that can be found here if you look hard enough?! I mean seriously . . .
I´m sure there is but it would probably require a couple of lifetimes to see and record them all ;D
If i could get all the graphics & sounds extractred from the game, I'd have them all in a few hours.
D_B, PZ knows how to extract sound, he even uploaded two examples: Check here (http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=1071.msg15338#msg15338)
Interesting, I think I used that program once, but it didn't find anything. Might be an update, I'm sure PZ will have it all figured out in no time.

Good catch! That typically happens so quickly, it's up in the air before you even know there is a flair gun in play!
Usually you get a warning, though. Many times I heard someone go "quick, launch a flare, I cover you!" But you really have to be quick to spot the guy, let alone take a screenshot ;D
Nice capture Art. :-X
For a long time I've thought that each CP and mission destination has one merc assigned to carry a flare gun.
**( A quick aside - While writing the sentence above I accidentally typed
"flair gun" and I've spent the last 5 minutes chuckling over there being an overly stylish merc in the game walking around among the other mercs targeting them with this specialized weapon and squealing
"Bang! You're Gorgeous!" )**
As Art noted:

I've noticed that while there is a lot of area in which a merc can roam around there is typically a post that they are manning and that is the center of where we can expect to find them.
If someone figured out which merc at each location carries the flare gun as his secondary they could put a priority on him and take him out before the camp is even aware that there is something going on.
Think about it. A sniper or RPG wielder is always within a few steps of his over look.
I know that there's an RPG at Sepoko that, if I am patient, will place himself just inside the center of the front entrance. He usually has the RPG slung over his shoulder while he's at ease, so he's easy to identify but once things kick over to alert status he equips it and along with the North tower sniper (whom I usually already introduced myself to) becomes the second most dangerous merc in the camp.
At one point before I had found OWG I had planned to figure out the flare gun wielders but then I developed a perverse amusement for allowing back up to be called in and thwarting their efforts by blowing up the cavalry with a GL round before they ever get a shot off, so I never did get around to it.
Thanks :)
** Ooooh, your smooth glossy flair gun is très chic ;D :-X **
For some time I thought every merc had a flare gun, because so many times I found dead mercs with a superimposed flare gun in their holster (as well as a regular pistol), see start of this topic.
I can only think of very, very few occasions a launched flare actually caused reinforcements to show up. Mainly because I play in daylight, mostly, but even nightly flares were rendered useless most of the times.

I read somewhere once (can't remember where) about how you can fire a flare in the air near a GP to actually call reinforcements from the
other faction, thereby starting a merc war. Doesn't sound right to me. As Art said above, it rarely seems to do anything. Has anyone tried this?
Heh, I tried it so often I thought my game was broken because never ever happened anything like that. When I fire a flare, all I get is motes in my vision ;D
I just started a new career in FC2, actually my 7th or 8th (only found that out when checking old savegames; I thought I was going to go on my 6th) and I decided to enjoy the entire intro (cab drive). Then I heard it again, something that I noticed earlier but never managed to comment on: When the cab is being stopped at the bridge before entering pala, a couple of African mercs walk up and start chatting with the cab driver in their respective native tongues (before an English speaking merc takes over). And that literally -- one guy speaks the Click-Language, that contains sounds you do with your tongue, when clicking it.
Obviously this isn't a thing to be captured in a screenshot, but so you know what I am referring to, here is an example you old farts may know (the younger ones, get to know it now :) )
Miriam Makeba, Pata Pata
Although not the best version, but the one that contains a version from a CD I posess myself, has been muted (WMG and its copyright issues with youtube). This version is not so good regarding sound quality, but you clearly hear the clicking sounds right from the start :)

I know exactly what you mean Art, I was so surprised when I heard that for the first time that I said out loud " WTF he speaks bushman!!" (in swedish ofcourse) to myself. Luckily I was alone at the time :-[
Re: Flare gun, merc who carries it
I just finished a cell tower mission in Leboa, where that VIP cruises in circles around the airfield (I love that mission). Apart from the fact that I took out all mercs plus that VIP with a single magazine of my Dragunov (proud marksman), I checked the bodies (I don't know, it's a habit. Maybe I want to make sure) and surprise, every single one of those six body guarding mercs (no pun intended) had both a flare pistol and a regular one in their holster, superimposed.
Going to check, on occasion, if indeed all of the dead mercs carry both guns. :)
Indeed - difficult to catch. I've managed to see it once or twice, but it is over well before I've a chance to react. In fact, it happens so fast that I'd not seen how they protect their faces - good find!
PZ, out of curiosity and because it has happened to me, did you reply to a post that was at the end of the page (new page when you replied)? I'm asking because depending on how you set your forum layout, the latest post you see and want to reply to sometimes is at the end of the page you see, to that you reply, and only if you check again you may notice you skipped a whole lot of posts. In your case, your reply seems to refer to a post way back, and I know you are likely to comment on the posts that followed in between... :)

One thing to consider: The ones I found so far only have superimposed double pistols if they were shot out of their vehicles (no weapons drawn). If killed while walking around, they droped their weapons, including one single pistol, and their holsters were empty.
Ah ha! Schrödinger's pistols!

Riding merc's pistols are in a state of quantum flux because they are not in a free standing state. Independence from their vehicle (while alive) forces a determination of secondary weapon value but because the merc's you have observed are, so to speak dead before they hit the ground, their weapons are still in a quantum flux state that remains unresolved because they were never drawn.
I've noticed that if I want to recharge my grenades or secondary ammo I have to get the AT or DD crew to stop and get out before I kill them or there's no weapons dropped.
I've just never bothered to examine the dead mercs beyond snapping a few screen shots that I've shown my wife of their rag doll splayed landing postures with silly captions like "No one can out perform Skeeter when it comes to Freeze Tag!"

Quantum Flux (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_flux) :o
Never underestimate an African mercenary, thats what my grandma used to say!!! :P
;D
Actually, the quantum theory is interesting. Other than digital states (0 or 1, as in flare or pistol) a quantum state is both 0 and 1, at the same time, and only flicks into a state of 0 or 1 the moment it is being checked (usually 1 as in pistol) and may then be processed digitally (switch from 1 to 0, from pistol to flare) in case of need (quick, launch a flare). That leads to the assumption that every walking merc is a potential flare shooter who can switch from any weapon to flare.
;D
Oh, like the species of frog that can spontaneously switch genitalia when in need . . . :-\
No screenshots available, I suppose? ::)

shows a pic on the desk of one of the faction leaders' "office" where you all have been taking on countless missions ;D
[smg id=1607 align=center width=400]
Alright, that's what we know. Now, what I don't know is, where is the photo in the next screenshot?! I didn't fake anything, this is a regular screenshot, and everything apart from the bouncer is identical, but the photo on the desk is missing
(and, well, there is dirt on the floor to the right in the old pic that is missing in the new one edit: checked again, the dirt is outside of our sight, but it is there). Question is, have we got two identical offices? The new pic here where the photo is missing was taken at Pala, Leboa, very early in the game (third main mission). Does the game progress have anything to do with that? The only black woman (as shown in the photo) I can think of is Reuben's wife, and didn't he say something about a threat when he gives you personal items in that hangar towards the end of the game? Questions... :)
[smg id=1818 align=center width=400]
Fine attention to detail! :-X
Nicely spotted, mate :)
cheers, guys :)
Next time around, I'm going to find out about that pic. My guess is that there are two offices that just look the same.
"Fresh Fish", anyone?
[smg id=1856]
And unveiling the new weapon in the War on Mercs arsenal - the "AT Tank"!
[smg id=1855]
I've seen those fish baskets, but what happened to that AT? :)
For the merc who has everything - 300 horsepower, all-wheel drive, rusty armor plating, 2 flat tires, and a 30mm solid mounted weapon for those annoying traffic jams on the road to Pala!
Hehe, indeed... you sparked an idea and an image in my mind, that car looks like a modern version of a competitor at a jousting tournament ;D
It kinda takes playing chicken to the next level doesn't it? ;D
;D
Imagine that pole going through engine and driver of the opposing car, like a lance (new sport, car jousting?) I can see a winning car here. :)
Might come in handy when those buffalos cross your path. Drive up to them, I don't care if front or back side, and thrust that lance through the buffalo. Then drive to the next bonfire... a BBQ-AT, short "BAT" ;D

It's a road sign pole that I collected. Unfortunately, it fell off before I could try impaling anything with it :'(
ahhh... heh, I don't think I ever ran a pole over that large, I thought they were solid? :) I've got to try to pick one up next time ;D
They come out of the ground fairly easily, I seem to take them down a fair bit. Fortunately, I'm a better driver in real life ;D
Speaking off knocking things down, I discovered recently that you can just power a vehicle right through the flimsy structures at the checkpoint east of Pala, at the four-way crossroads. If you're lucky, you can collect a merc or two as you go through. Be careful though, there's an explosive stockpile in there, so if you're heading east, keep leftish as you go through, or you'll hit the stockpile and set it off.

I've found that my ride fares a lot better on damage if I'm part of the vehicle. Behind the wheel or in the turret a direct hit from a RPG at worst will cause the engine to go to black smoke but repairable if addressed quickly.
However if I'm standing on the roof for a Datsun or up on the hood or turret of an AT for better perspective I can easily get it blown right out from under me in one hit.
(Wow ::) I just realized I spend a lot of time standing on top of my vehicles in game
* note to self - I gotta try avoiding the front bumper and jumping up on the hood of a merc driver that is trying to run me down to see if I can avoid catastrophic damage and turn his attack to my advantage. Hmm... :-* Edit additional: I just jumped on the hood of an approaching AT that was trying to run me down with minimal damage! Now headed for the Tips posts to list it ;D * )
To test this effect I've driven directly into the red exploding barrel that's there near the parking area at Mike's bar in the North map and and I get damage in the form of easily repairable smoke but I get to keep my wheels. :-X
fragger, cheers, going to check it out.
mandru, I think you're right at the hit damage getting reduced while part of the vehicle.
I clearly remember being on an GLAT carpet bombing Sepoko when I saw a RPG coming in my direction... I thought it was over but, just like mandru said, it black smoked but yet it could be repaired!
It just made me real mad and I finished everybody left on site by hand... slowly and painfully ;D ;D
that's the spirit, JRD ;D ;D ;D

I kept thinking about it and now I know, there are two kinds of road signs. The solid ones I was thinking of are those with arrows pointing at loactions such as Pala etc. They wear Italian shoes (cement blocks) and can't be knocked over ;D
I forgot to mention that little detail, you can only knock over warning signs and the like (such as "Y"), NOT the location signs... Hope I didn't cause you to dingle your car too much trying that, Art ;D
I tried until the blisters on my hands which I got from repairing my car so often prevented me from further attempts. ;D
Have you ever seen Prosper Kouassi's Butt? I mean, the back side of his jeans. Our pal from the north wears a jeans that reads
SOUTHERN LAD ;D
[smg id=1866 align=center width=400]
Interesting... I have to say it never occurred to me to look there ::) Nicely spotted detail, Art :-X
He's in the wrong region, evidently.
Hehe, cheers, fragger :)
It only occurred to me when he turned to grab the envelope with the payments, I could see an imprinted white letter on the side of his jeans. Then I reloaded, positioned myself where you can see his back when he does. That's it :)
Nice find Art. :-X
Where Kouassi's HQ is in a commandeered bordello (putting those poor street walkers out on the street so to speak) is it possible that his pants were something that was left behind by one of the female entertainers and they actually say Southern Lady?
I'm going to have to play it from the top sometime to get Dr Gakumba's missions first so that I whack him at Goka Falls so I can meet kouassi at the victory rally and check out his corpse maybe adjusting his repose with an IDE or grenade till I can get a clear view.
cheers, but sorry mandru, after "southernla..." only comes a "D", not a "dy". I checked again :)
Ah! OK Art.
Just because a stray thought makes sense to me doesn't mean its going to be right. ;D
Yeah, I think I even had a screenshot of that, after you kill him at the rally.
I took notice of this photo on a bulletin board at APR HQ in Sefapane. I've seen the picture heaps of times before, but I never looked too closely at it. The guy with the circle around him looks like Voorhees:
[smg id=1926 align=center width=400]
Someone obviously has it in for him - his two mates have been crossed out, but he's apparently still a marked man, if that's who it is in the picture.
nice detail pic :)
I've noticed that one on the walls before, looked at it closely a couple of times, but I'm sorry, I can't see any resemblance to anyone in it. Well, the guy to the left reminds me of that old horror movie "Swamp Thing" and the guy to the right has a head that could belong to the Terminator (Schwarzenegger) ;D

Are "Swamp Thing" and "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" the same monster?
I think the guy on the left looks like some kind of zombie. :P
Hey, I think that's me in the middle! ;D
Characters from other popular games maybe?
The three of them look as if they were drawn by the same artist but each of them is stylistically, very different...
Or maybe they are just some of Michelle's old flames. :P
mandru, this gives "flame war" a totally new meaning ;D
fragger, thanks :) I believe I meant what you said: the creature from the black lagoon

Got no good answer here. :(
On the other hand thinking about the faction offices caused another random thought from long observation to shake loose. I've often thought that the uncomfortable shuffling movements of some of the doormen at some of the faction inner offices has appeared to be because of physical injury.
Could it be that the inner office doormen are proven trustworthy to the point of taking a bullet to protect their ranking officers and in spite of their reduced physical abilities kept on the payroll and given light but still important security duties?
Watch them sometime as they move to get out of your way and open the door for you as you are leaving. See what you think.
I've noticed that the game has them on rails, and when I'm in their way, they softly push me into the room while they close the door behind me. I think your idea is disturbing a little ( ;D ) and I don't believe that such personal details actually were brought into the game. I think the movement of the guard is affected by the door. Like, when you watch mercs in a GP through the scope of your rifle, you will sometimes see that they flounder in a tight spot as if they were experiencing myoclonic seizures, but more likely that is not the case, more likely they just can't move "as they want" because some kind of obstacle prevents them from doing so. :)

Let´s not let reality and logic get in the way of a good story mate (eventhough I believe you´re right) ;)
sorry :o probably two or more ways of looking at it :)
About the photograph on the desk, right now I'm not sure what mission it was in the first post and which one in the second. It is a little confusing when I want to find out by simply looking at the stats page of the game. Right now it reads 7 main missions, including the one I took there when taking the second shot. But fortunately I mentioned the names of the faction leader and his lackey both times, so at least those are identical, and that makes it even more confusing. Why would the same people have that pic on the desk one time and the next time not? Strange :)
Found a couple of things I haven't noticed before. A bag of food labelled thusly:
[smg id=2196 align=center width=400]
And this cool little carved stool:
[smg id=2197 align=center width=400]
:)
nice :) I remember those international food packages, I think you can find them in Bowa, the brewery house where one of your buddies is locked away in, and in a couple of underground locations.
That little chair is something I remember making a lot of noise when either some mercs or I trip over it ;D You can find it close to a couple of safehouses and other locations.
I think we didn't have pics of those here, so thanks for adding them :) :-X
Indeed - I've not seen the sack of food before.
Cool, looks like supplies dropped in from a relief organization or something. That stool is one I haven't noticed before - funny to think about some poor programmer whose job it was to spend months rendering all of these little randoms that we keep finding ;D
Agree, mmosu. They must have had "What else?" sessions, as in "What else can we throw in?" Then of course someone had to create all the throw-ins. You've got to love them for it :-X

I found that bag of food lying on the ground next to a wrecked cart of sorts, near a safe house somewhere in Bowa, and thought "Hey, I haven't seen that before". Now I'm seeing them all over the place - well, the places Art mentioned, anyway. Just never noticed them before, I guess... The stool I've seen twice now - the one in the photo is at the GP on the river NW of Sediko, can't remember where I saw the other one. There's a similar stool that's quite common, but without the little female figures carved into it.
It's always the same: When you have a broken leg, you'll see lots of people with a cast put on their legs. Then they are everywhere ! (else, they are cast away) ;D
There's a stool with the carved female figures in the border house where you meet with the Jackal the 2nd time.
That's it! Thanks, mandru :)
This game... I still can't believe that after all this time, I still find things I haven't seen before: a "Jungle" bar!

I know it's actually on this picture but I didn't notice it since yesterday when I was standing in front of it:

Yeah, you can actually climb up there and knock it down (or maybe shoot it down). Must be nice to have sat TV way out in the middle of nowhere, as long as your generator has gas, that is.
Cool - in all the plays through that I've done, and in all the countless times I've passed by that train I'd never noticed that dish. :-X
I need to look up more. :-()
I never noticed that either :-X
Funny how all the working TVs in FC2 have a vertical-hold problem ????
even funnier how no one has a working mobile phone except when your best buddy calls you after taking on a faction mission -- then miraculously both his/hers and yours w@&k.
 indeed - and all without the slightest trace of breaking up!
I had seen that satellite antenna atop the boxcar but it had never occurred to me to shoot it down. Being in the second half of the game with my reputation at level 5 and due to meet the Jackal at the prison I made a trip up North to give it a closer look see. As long as I was headed up there I planned on giving the North one final thrashing before finishing this play through. >:D
My AS50 made quick w@&k of the antenna which amusingly had it's own unique sound when kicked around on the ground but becoming bored of that I wandered on up to Scrap Salvage this time killing and blowing up everyone and everything I encountered along the way with a flare gun ( http://www.openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=95.msg51463#msg51463 (http://www.openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=95.msg51463#msg51463) another current thread Weapons Choice inspired me to that oddity ::) ). Slaughterhouse, Cock Fights and Lumber quickly succumbed to the all powerful might of the bright sparkly burst of signalitude.
A flare launched into the back of a receding AT has the potential of killing both gunner and driver in one shot. Then again a merc on foot may require 5 or 6 head shots with a flare to take them down but if you shoot him in the ankles with it and his boots catch on fire and he's a goner. ????
In all I spent the better part of 2 hours ranging around setting things on fire in the Northern map before heading back South. I decided to swing back past the satellite antenna to shoot it down again. I was surprised to find it had not regenerated back atop the boxcar as I had anticipated but still lay on the ground where I had been kicking it around. It would appear that like some of the big gas tanks that remain ruined after blowing them up the antenna also has been given a non-respawning nature and its status is remembered by the game even when you move into other areas.
Why would the developers give a so seemingly unimportant object a steady state status and it's own unique sounds when kicked? It makes me wonder if there was supposed to be a mission linked to it that was pulled in the last minute rush to get the game released.

Indeed - mysteries like this are intriguing - too bad the developers wouldn't do an after-game debrief. :-D
Agree - seems like a lot of trouble to go to for some trivial, out-of-the-way object that wasn't even spotted by many well-seasoned FC2ers for about three years ????

Maybe it was there to trigger the Black Mamba mission hehehe ;D
That thought crossed my mind as well! ^-^
I spotted this last night, never noticed it before:

Why would they include a sign for that? It's just a beat-up old roadside stand like many of the others you see around the map. Another gameplay element that was dispensed with, perhaps - having to get your phone recharged from time to time?
Nice catch fragger but I'm fairly certain that is actually a regular part of the game. ;)
The trip out to the Dental Clinic is the mission I can see that you were engaged when you made this screen shot. It's the place where you either destroy the truckload of nitrous oxide or pick it up for delivery to your BB's part time job at the garage in Sefapane.
The "Phonecard Shop and phone recharging stand" that you've identified on the sign post is that Underground location sitting at the mouth of the Southwest entrance into the Dental Clinic. :) :-X
I've delivered passports and picked up my malaria medication at that Underground location and it's also my favorite way of sneaking into the Dental Clinic when doing the Nitrous mission. There's a perfect line of sight to pot the sharpshooter in the observation tower with the dart rifle before he can set off the alarm. >:D

Although I've tried entering from other vantage points, this one is my favorite and represents at least 95% of my visits to the clinic. I like to pick off the sniper in the tower, then one other on the ground. Their friends naturally begin their search for me and once they enter the narrow passage toward the safe house, I start picking them off too, and of course, throwing a Molotov into the dry grass. >:D
Nice pick-up on the mission there, mandru :-X
Of course, the Underground mission. Must be my week for discovery boners :D
You guys' modus operandi at the Dental Clinic is mine also. Sometimes I pinch the GLAT from the nearby patrol and park it outside the entrance to the path as a definitive argument settler should the debate get a little too raucous >:D
Another fun method wien doing the Dental clinic mission is to steal the GLAT from the roving patrol near the Post Office. I park the GLAT near the safe house and blanket the clinic with grenades. Of course, you stand the chance of blowing up the truck which I have done on more than one occasion. :-()

Playing on empty stomach, again, are we? It so much reminds me of wieners not to mention hot dogs. Mmmh.. :-()
Dammit Art, now you've made me hungry :-\\ :-D
fancy a barbecued emu drumstick with a tad of garlic? :-()
:-D
Real men precede that with an entrée of dingo balls >:D
Yes, you really can get them! Check them out if you dare...
[smg id=4883 width=500]
You'll have to fight the dog for them though :-D
 :-X
These Dingo Balls wouldn't effect me in a way that I'll end up in intensive care,
not because it'll poison me, but because I might just step off a curb to
sniff an Irish Setter's butt and we both get hit by a car, now would it ???
you could still sniff it without eating dingo balls at all :-D
I have always found this amusing. ;D
