Title: Bar brawls, taken to the streets
Post by: Art Blade on October 23, 2011, 05:24:39 PM
When you start the SP game you live in that working class part of town with lots of Russians and Russian mobsters around. However, the people of that neighbourhood are probably the most violent civilians in all Liberty City. Maybe too much vodka and too little room in bars.

Just drive around like a maniac, shoot out of the window or drop a hand grenade out of your car while driving around innocently.. and all of a sudden you'll see two, three, four cars slamming into yours, pedestrians pulling you out of your car and nearby drivers stopping, getting out and start shooting at you. All of that at once and more often than not they finish you off even before the police arrives to finish you off ???

"Driving in Liberty fucking City," as Packie likes to say occasionally :-D

Sounds dangerous - need an AR-16  ???

It is. And yes, you may equip a combat rifle  :-()

I behave like a maniac most of the time I drive around in Liberty City, dropping hand grenades is one of my favourite pastimes (3,700+ vehicles blown up and about 800 hand grenade kills, so far)  :-() Only when I start to believe something is different and if it reminds me of having kicked over a hornets nest, only then I check where I am (that particular neighbourhood) and I think to myself, "oh no."

I mean, really, those idiots chase you in packs as if you had just stolen all their money, eaten all their dog food and then puked that stuff across their handmade shag wool rugs.

I didnt play much of that game, but I do remember the very start, walking onto the street, I wasnt sure what the buttons did, so I was pressing randomly for walk/jump etc. Suddenly I punched a pedestrian, he started fightin g me and I didnt know how to hit him back, the police arrested him and thanked me, as apparently he was wanted for forged cheques or something like that! :)

Haha, I had a very similar experience and like you at the very beginning: I wanted to leave my house. Without realising (wrong buttons) I started moving in the wrong direction and by that jumped through the closed door which sprang open and slammed into someone who fell over due to the impact, I had knocked him over without knowing what the heck was going on. That moment a cop thanked me for helping arrest that man who was still on the ground, puzzled, struggling to get up.  ^-^

yes :)

What made me really laugh hard was after a surreal scene had unfolded.. it was when I was driving around in that said neighbourhood at night. I stopped at a red traffic light for fun and giggles when two cars connected in the middle of the crossroads and somehow it all ended with a mass fist fight (that included a mostly nude hooker punching some driver's face) and a police shoot-out. I wasn't involved in any of those quarrels, just watching exactly like this smiley:  ???

It's worth it. I wouldn't have touched it if Binnatics hadn't done everything humanly possible to make me play it (reminds me of Portal2 for some reason..)  ^-^ And now I have spent more than 400 hours on it  :-()

I keep meaning to do it, and actually had just installed it on my old PS3 when it went belly up.  I haven't had much chance lately to do console gaming.  ;)

Just make sure to keep one of those old PS3 consoles. You know, technological progress and so on.. by the time you're ready for it you might be unable to find hardware still able to run it.  :-()

I've been doing a bit of online research and the consensus appears to be that it is not worth the cost to have Sony fix the old PS3.  :'(

Excellent indeed!!

I'm sure you'll like it. And it will be probably a good warm-up for the soon-to-be-released GTA V ^-^

I started a new playthrough with Luis in The Ballad of Gay Tony. It seems like even the streets have gotten some 80's creamy framework in this DLC.

I'm playing TBoGT too and love the LC fight club. It's basically like the film with Arm.. err, Brad Pitt. Early in the game I thought I'd try to make money betting on fighters. Starting with some $2,500 I'm now (after visitin and betting during several fight events) at $3+ million. Invested (lost) 1,7m and won 5.1 m so I can make $3 out of $1 :)

Funny thing, I earned $11,500 from game missions but am already a multi-millionaire  :-()
Title: Re: Bar brawls, taken to the streets
Post by: Binnatics on October 27, 2011, 01:25:04 PM
That is indeed a great way of making fast money. The introduction of betting minigames isn't new to GTA, it was well presented in San Andreas. I never tried this dog-fight betting though, and it's sure worth a try :-X ^-^

I found out that there are more locations like the Russian getto you mentioned. I was almost sure there would be, and I checked little Italy in Algonquin. They sure do love a fight overthere too ;)
I started pushing people out of their terrace seats, and found one (Italian of course) who got quite pissed. He warned me but I ignored that and put a "piece" against his head. He mentioned that I should "put the piece away". I shot him in the head and that started a massive gunfight around the restaurant >:D All his mates were suddenly shooting me to death >:(

Oh yes, gunshots can turn into gunfights which in turn can turn into something not unlike a civil war  >:D

If you cheat your wanted level down (i.e. being "innocent") you can watch how police and thugs duke it out :)

Finally a decent pic depicting what we've been discussing, on topic  :-()

It started with the "couple" to the right, the guy with white trainers had been driving that bike and rammed the pedestrian he's now boxing with who pulled him off the bike. To the left another fight ensued but I don't know why, I saw a woman (to the right of that couple) attack the driver of that green car, pulling him out, and then they started to punch each others nuts to pulp  :-() Oh the best thing: I really wasn't involved and didn't cheat here

Thanks, PZ :) Take perhaps 20 shots of one scene and pick the best.. that's how I accumulate so many screenshots all the time in every game that permits them. I'm near 10,000 screenies in GTA IV alone.  ^-^

Fragger, hehehe yes  :-()

The only reason the pic is so nice (and everybody still alive) is that for a change I had no weapons with me; they had been nicked by the police before when they busted me for blowing up about 50 vehicles and killing everything in sight that moved. I thought I might as well try for once to drive in a civilised manner and the pic is what I got in return: Everybody else was so cranked up they were short of a revolution  :-()

This is the most unbelievable brawl I had my hands in so far. I did nothing except drop and detonate a few sticky bombs in the middle of a very busy crossroads with perhaps eight lanes (Denver-Exeter Ave and Burlesque) and some more streets on my way when I was hindered by firefighters from escaping the mess. They blocked my car and dragged me out of it and all (four or five of them) started to attack me. As if that wasn't enough.. golly! A very zealous policeman joined in and, I believe just for his personal amusement, arrested me.

Is this like FC2 where if a single person recognizes you as having done something wrong, suddenly everyone knows?  ????
Title: Re: Bar brawls, taken to the streets
Post by: Art Blade on October 30, 2011, 03:02:03 PM
Almost, yes.

Picture this: You have a sticky bomb thrown in all secrecy at another car and watched it drive away. No one noticed. Then, sitting in your car, you push the button of the remote detonator. And just like that, people come running at you wanting to drag you out of your ride and beat you to death. Same with the police. You detonate something and the police knows it was YOU. If in succession something else blows up, even if you managed to lose your wanted level (alertness of police), you'll be accounted for as the culprit who caused that new explosion and that earns you a new wanted level, just as naturally as night falls at the end of a day.  :D

Forget sneaky.  :-()

Title: Re: Bar brawls, taken to the streets
Post by: Art Blade on October 30, 2011, 03:18:52 PM
Yes, I'd like that, too :) Unfortunately, no matter what you do, it will raise an alarm as long as there are observers present, which they almost always are.

One exception: If you turn your car into a burning wreck (slam against anything a couple of times) and then leave that burning wreck in the street, preferably in the middle of a crossroads.. hehe.. then when it explodes (it will) no one remembers you left it there nor do they guess your intention to leave it there so it blows up so it wreaks havoc on the passing-by traffic  >:D

Oh yes, only those sticky bombs are part of a dlc and only in use with The Ballad of Gay Tony. Else, you get classic hand grenades. Which are marvellous, still  :-() I love explosives of all kinds, grenades, mines..

Ask Binnatics.. he tasted some of my thrown explosives   :-()

There is a way to do some dirty stuff without drawing attention to cops or other possible enemies:
You can kill people by using "something between you and the victim". For example: You have a one-star wanted level and have a fresh police car running in on you. Of course the servants get out and try to 'convince you' to let them take you in. They'll do that hiding behind their car for cover. Just in case you deside not to listen to them. What you can do then, is ride and smash your car into the police car / cover. If the poor cops get run over and killed by their own vehicle, they won't judge you for that.  >:D
Compare: normally, killing or running over a cop will give you a 2 or most likely 3 star wanted level.

Another way of killing without getting attention (it works in quiet zones, don't know if it will also w@&k in little moskov or little italy) is running over civilians very gently as if you were just 'pushing them' in the right direction. They will fall, and you can just 'gently cover them with the mantle of love... urrhm... rubber' until they're dead. Cops who are even standing right next to you when you do that, won't recognize the false intentions and will just walk by >:D

I noticed that killing pedestrians "softly" isn't being punished. I didn't think about killing cops with their own cover (car) hehe  :-() :-X Sometimes I can even shoot someone in the head and it takes longer than usually until it registers with the cops. In the meantime I'm over the hills and far away  :-()

I've tried to kill single cops with headshots: That should not register any wanted lvl either, since there's no other cop around to notice. But somehow that won't w@&k :(

Whenever I start to mess around (shoot-outs) with cops, I end up dead unless I cheat my way out. Only when I try to escape in a fast car am I able to get rid of them without cheating. However, I have fun duking it out as long as I can and it always makes me chuckle or even laugh when they finally finish me over because by then they've sent in half an army and everyone with guns blazing  :-D

One of my favorite hobbies in GTA Vice City and San Andreas after finishing the game and just going after collectables was to raise my wanted level to the maximum and find a way to survive without cheating.

I remember a car shop in GTA-VC with many fast cars on display and a paint shop on the parking lot outside. I used to go upstairs, break a window and start firing at vehicles and pedestrians passing by till I get the attention of the police. They never went upstairs after me, only tried to shoot me from down on the streets. Since I was indoors the helicopter couldn`t open fire at me but I usually was able to fire a rocket against them, putting them down and raising even more my wanted level till the FBI show up and then the army!  >:D

After a huge mess out all I had to do was to get a car, fly over the window and drive to the back of the shop and into the paint where, just by painting my car on a different color I was free and innocent again!!!

On San Andreas I knew all locations of stars spread throughout my neighborhood and instead of going to a paint I tried to get those stars that counted as bribe so decreasing my wanted level a notch for each star I collected!  8)

:)

Unfortunately in GTA IV the forces will go everywhere you go as long as there are paths leading there. In other words, they enter buildings and run up the stairs, even to and into your very own safehouses ??? The only safe location is to use a helicopter and land on a rooftop without exits. There you can shoot down but will have to deal with their helicopters and eventually you'll run out of ammo to fend those off. By then your own helo has most likely been converted to rubble and debris which renders you a prisoner of your crest. Either jump to your death or be shot to death.. you can still blow yourself up, though..  :-D

That's why I keep dying: Staying in one place will lead to your death. Trying to escape as early and quickly as possible is the only way to save that part of your body you use to sit on.  :-()

I remember that carhop as well, in the industrial zone. Wasn't that the location where a number of races started as well? I also remember trying to survive in the army base. This GTA IV is actually the first sequel without an army base. All others had one.

Having fun with wanted levels was the best in San Andreas. I loved to go to a locked island early in the game and try to collect the collectables and do the side missions. It was great to try and shoot these snapshots in SF without getting caught or killed by the numerous cops chasing you. I also remember how the cops even chased you up to Mont Chiliad. It was so funny to see a SWAT team fall off the mountain passing your view trying to make their way down on these small passages >:D

In GTA IV, the best way to loose a wanted level without cheating, is to go to a paint 'n spray asap or to get inside a helicopter. Flying is the best way to flee from the wanted area, which can increase tremendously when having like 6 stars.

I remember being surprised by police officers inside my own safehouse GTA IV, when I could run it on my old rig  :-\\

You didn`t have that "area of search" thing though. As long as you had a wanted level raised you`d be always chased, except for one star level which would disappear eventually if you just stay out of trouble for a few minutes. Two or more would cause the police to go after you till you bribe them or paint your vehicle!  ;)

interesting -- that's the difference between knowing prequels and having started only now with IV. Although I know I missed out on a lot, I'm still glad that I joined at all (if late) and that I don't have to put up with the old graphics and other program/game design flaws. I'm looking forward to playing V :)
