Title: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on April 06, 2010, 05:21:57 PM
I'm sure that there will be funny in game moments to share in the future, but here are a couple of observations on the game's construction.

I had to laugh when a govman was working his way across the road toward me (shooting all the way in his SEAL pose) when a civilian truck came down the road and ran him over.  The surprised sounds he made as he died reminded me of the stupid mercs in FC2  ;D

LOL! That reminds me of a scene in a movie when some guy wanted to scare another guy with fancy kung fu moves, showing off like hell, when the other guy just shrugged, whipped out a pistol, and shot him dead.  ;D

Indiana Freakin' Jones my friend!

Randome accidents and stuff happens all the time on Panau - it's awesome.

So InBanana Jones, eh?  ;) thanks, space, I couldn't place it. I always liked hence remembered that scene even if I had forgot the title of the movie  :)
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: spaceboy on April 11, 2010, 09:12:37 PM
quick bit of trivia on that scene.  The enemy was actually wielding a huge sword and swinging it around.  Harrison Ford was supposed to grab a sword and do some moves or something and fight the guy.  But he was quite ill that day and didn't feel like it so he just pulled out the pistol and "shot"  him.  It is a much better scene that way, obviously, it shows what a little improvising can do  (hmmm, I think that's why PZ and I are liking JC2 so much!)
Title: Re: Funny moments

lol, I remember that scene, and you're absolutely correct, space - that is why we like JC2 so much  :-X

Funniest moments so far:

Crashing a refuse lorry into a statue and getting crushed to death.
Flipping a sports car when try to pull down a statue.
Destroying a statue on the edge of a mountain, parachuting off and watching Baby Panay's head rolling and rolling into the valley below.
Car surfing a govman's car and using the double grapple to pull out the occupants.
Over-eager govmen motorcyclists plunging off a bridge during a hectic pursuit.

But my highlight, which might sound tame to others, was whilst I was being chased. All I had was a pistol, I was car surfing on some poor Panauan's car and was being doggedly pusued by a motorcyclist. He pulled alongside at top speed.  I zoomed in with the pistol but my shots were lousy.  I missed him several times then decided to aim for his front tyre.  Again my aim was poor so I focussed even more on his front wheel, all the time speeding down the road.  The next thing....BAM!...he was gone. He had ploughed into the back of a parked govmen car. The suddenness with which he disappeared from view was hilarious.

those are great stories batdog!   I often try to get a chasing motorcycle to plow into oncoming traffic and things (or edge him off a cliff)  But the random factor is always more funny.

I`m amazed as how many funny moment you can pull whilst engaging a statue - 3 out of 5!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I can almost see the events in my mind's eye as you express them, batdog - great moments for sure, and some new things for me to try.  I didn't expect the game to be such a good "sandbox" when we first started talking about it  :-X
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on April 12, 2010, 12:41:04 PM
very funny story about the suddenly disappearing motorcyclist  ;D :-X

That reminds me of TDU (TestDrive Unlimited) when I was racing a motorcyclist on a highway, both of us on the wrong side ("ghost drivers"). I was doing an amazing speed already in my sports car while he was even faster and ahead of me. Then a huge lorry appeared to come flying at us, left from me, but in front of the motorcyclist. He couldn't dodge and hammered into the grill sprawled, like spiderman on a façade of some tall building, motorbike flipping away, and he was gone, all a matter of split seconds. I crashed my car several times after that because I was laughing so hard and nearly didn't see the finish, best race ever  ;D

I like the Indian singsong you sometimes hear, as in "We've hostiles in the area! Sending all available units!"  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments

One that I'm also fond of:

"He's trying to hide..."  Using the same derisive tone that the FC2 mercs use when saying "Well, look what we got!"

...and another one that is particularly funny after you've exploded nearly everything in an area and killed almost everyone: "I think we got him on the run!"
Title: Re: Funny moments

govman exclaiming "I've wounded him!" and then dies himself. lol ;D

"You piece of dung!"   ;D

My goodness, the civilians in Panau sure are a bunch of sniveling cowards when the shooting starts. When they run away from the shooting, they sometimes remind me of those hilarious grunts in Halo when they flailed their arms while screaming "Run... Away!"

I pulled Pinay's head off the statue with the helicopter, flew around for a while with it dangling -- was a odd, funny moment , and there have been several in this game. I have found myself staring at the screen on a few occasions,  wondering WTF just happened? You can really do some outrageous things with vehicles and not die.

I love tethering unusual things [ and people]  together.  I tethered one of those three wheeled carts to a statue and watched while the cart buried its rear end in the pavement trying to move.

I almost grappled onto a passing airplane while hang gliding. I think that would have been a real trip. I wonder if you can do so and ride the wings?
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: spaceboy on April 20, 2010, 09:28:39 AM
now it sounds like your getting into it the JC2 way eor!  Yes you can grapple onto a flying plane but you'll ride the fuselage not the wings!  You can even plant C4 on it, jump off then detonate while parachuting...
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on April 20, 2010, 09:32:28 AM
excellent, I love the destructive elements that game has to offer! Taking out an aeroplane mid-air with c-4 sounds big fun  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: spaceboy on April 20, 2010, 09:49:20 AM
be aware the big passenger jets take more than one C4, maybe like 3.  I tried it with one but it didn't do enough damage.  I almost felt the pilots laughing at me as I floated down  :(
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on April 20, 2010, 10:05:19 AM
If you've got only one c-4 with you, place it on the windshield of a big passenger jet. If you don't take out the entire plane, at least the pilots will get it.  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on April 20, 2010, 10:07:15 AM
Hey space, did you upgrade your C-4?  I'm curious as to how much damage upgrading can cause because I've upgraded my frags to the max, and a single grenade can take out a vehicle in a large explosion now.
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: spaceboy on April 20, 2010, 10:27:55 AM
I have but not all the way.  I wish it explained what each upgrade did.  I assumed it was only how many you can carry or clip size in guns.  That was the only noticeable effect to me.  But bigger explosions sounds good to me...
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on April 20, 2010, 11:26:04 AM
It does get expensive, the first is 5 parts, the second 10 or 15 (don't exactly remember), and it goes up from there.  I did notice that each time you get 2 more grenades for a total of 20 on my casual level.  Interestingly, whether you carry 10 or 20 grenades, the price is the same from the black market dealer (BMD) - $30,000, so the investment in upgrade parts in a maxed out explosive effectively cuts the price in half.  This is good to know if you're a grenade kind of guy (Art)  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on April 20, 2010, 12:41:02 PM
I've taken that into serious consideration.  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on April 20, 2010, 01:02:52 PM
Of course, that's a problem only with the vanilla game on the PC and the console versions of the game.  A $30,000 C-4 set costs only $3,000 using the black market mod on the PC, and weapon upgrades are free  ;D

Just learned how to vid capture and upload to youtube via the PS3.

I had just finished the "Second Amendment" mission with The Reapers, been in a huge firefight in a nearby village, had one chopper shot out form other me and the one I commandeered was about to blow. Saw an interesting structure in the middle of nowhere. I could see something in through the window so I landed to check it out.

My first JC2 easter egg, I suppose -- and funny as Hell.

lol, I'd read about that bubble gum gun - does it do anything good?

I noticed how you grabbed the edge of the window and hoisted yourself up - a quick way in structures like this is to grapple to the inside ceiling and then just drop to the floor - you don't need to aim as accurately, and ends up quicker.

Great movie, and keep 'em coming!

Post by: spaceboy on April 22, 2010, 08:23:26 PM
great find eor - and nice capture.  I think I heard the govmen are supposed to basically act annoyed at the bubble gun.  Can't wait to find it myself!  Thanks for the tip on the location  :-X
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: eor123 on April 22, 2010, 08:45:25 PM
I didn't take the bubble gun with me. I was having a hard enough time staying alive with the real weapons.  >:(

Getting away from these guys and getting the heat level down is easy in the urban areas. Elsewhere, it has proven to be pretty challenging, even on Casual setting.

I just drove the prostitute in the pink stretch limo, protecting her from Colonel "Boom Boom." That thing handles for s#!t. We ended up in the water, stole another car, got t-boned by a govman jeep, and had to run to the drop off point.

I have embraced the absurdity, fully.  ;D

When I played the demo I did exactly this in one of the bell towers, not realising that there's a bell inside.  I grappled to the bell rather than the ceiling.  My weight was obviously too much as (still attached to the bell) I smashed through the floor and ended up injured on the ground.  Try it out for a laugh.
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: spaceboy on April 23, 2010, 05:49:52 AM
eor - yes embrace the absurdity.  and honestly, what you described in that limo mission is EXACTLY why I love games like this.  If you just drove with no real obstacles or challenges, that'd be no fun.  Plus, and maybe more importantly, you completed it using different resources, your own decisions etc.  A similar mission in a linear game would have you restarting the limo mission everytime you crashed it.  Adapting to the crazy world around you is what makes it so much fun.  And it wouldn't be exactly the same if you did it again!   I love the fact that you completed it with you and your "package" running to the drop off point.  Come-on that's A-Team material right there!

batdog - funny story about the bell.  Another hilarious and unexpected moment!

Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on April 23, 2010, 06:11:49 AM
Spaceboy's comments described my appreciation for the game perfectly - I have also done that mission, and I agree with you about the handling of that limo - in my case, I actually managed to run it into the forest and was slipping/sliding among the trees until the thing wouldn't move again.  We took another car or two, but like you, me and my gal started running for it and finally made it to the drop zone.

Interesting observation on the bell, batdog - although I've been to a few Church towers, I've not seen one yet, but will be on the lookout.  In fact, I'm in a village that I'm part way through, and am hearing a large bell - will see what I can do when the heat dies down  ;D

Man, this game is fun  ;)

I rang the bell once jumping into and out of one of those bell towers.

On the mission where you assassinate a witness in Panau City, I took the opportunity to mow him down with the car but had to shoot my way out of the area after I crashed onto a wall. Caught a glimpse of what I thought was a girl in a bikini firing a gun.

After 36 hours of gameplay, the AI dialogue is getting a little stale but the line, "You're gonna die like an An-i-mal! still makes me chuckle.

Rico doesn't talk a lot but I heard a few good lines...

"Someday they are going to write books about all of this." [When flying below a bridge]

"It's good wasting someone else's tax dollars for a change." [When destroying a large  broadcast tower]

"I don't think I've ever seen cannibal zombie soldiers before."

Experienced a funny glitch and other weirdness last night:

In the first instance, when I grappled a bell tower I accidentally hooked the bell, which fell on top of me. After some very strange and involuntary "gymnastics" I ended up trapped between the floors of the bell tower.

I continued to take fire and even got hit by a few rounds.

In a last ditch effort, I tried to blast my way out -- with an odd result. I had to suicide myself to get out eventually.

[smg id=2267 type=av]

In the second, my assault had a promising beginning with a couple of good tosses from the parachute. Things got weird when I accidentally grappled the sniper in the water tower. I'm not sure why the tower exploded in my face -- perhaps a result from enemy fire directed at me. After I hit the ground, I was playing "catch up" for the remainder of the assault, not being able to get to cover.

[smg id=2269 type=av]

Common theme here -- missed grapple shots. Makes for weirdness.  :-X

It's interesting that you ended up inside the building (with no way out)  What did you use to try to blast yourself out, and what was the odd result that you experienced?
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: eor123 on May 02, 2010, 09:57:23 AM
Tried grappling, shooting, and then triggered explosive as shown in the clip. Went to the corner to minimize damage. The odd result is the "dance" that Rico does in the corner after the blast. I wasn't doing that.

I thought when I saw the debris that I had blasted through.

I sat on a grenade. That got me out -- so to speak.

That's one heck of a wild ride!  ;D

On another funny moment, I was doing a military base and was listening to the banter a bit more, and I get a chuckle out of the things the govmen say even when they're hopelessly out-gunned.  For instance, I was mowing down everything is sight with the minigun, including a horde of govmen rushing my position.  They fell stalks of wheat before a sickle and one of them had the nerve to say "we've got him on the run!" while another shouted "he's bleeding like a stuck pig!" and "you're gonna die like an animal!".  All the while another group was approaching from the side hoping to catch me unaware, but unfortunately for them, I franked the lot.

best colonel assassination I've done  was the other night.  I loaded up an ATV with 2 packs of C4, road it into town, aimed at the colonel in the town square, jumped off - you get the rest - a perfect one hit kill.  Got most of his minions along with him as well!

I was watching my partner playing tonight when she decided to attack a communications post with a helicopter she had hijacked earlier on.  As she's hovering round the base blasting everything that moves or explodes, Rico began to sing/hum (very badly) the Ride of the Valkyries (think of the helicopter sequence in Apocalypse Now). I almost fell off my chair laughing. I've never heard him do this before so don't know if it's specific to this location.

Very funny is our man Rico. I particularly like his line in understatement. If he's badly injured or dies he'll invariably say "OUCH!" or "OW!". I think in the circumstances it probably hurt a bit more than that  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on May 03, 2010, 07:07:56 PM

I agree - Rico is the king of understatement - reminds me of John Wayne who also said "ow" when he was shot.

I may have seen the strangest thing yet but can't share it because of a recurring issue I have uploading to youtube. The PS3 locked up when attempting to upload and I had to completely reboot it, losing the capture.  :D

What you would have seen was a helicopter pursuing me INSIDE one of the underground fuel silos!

I watched dumbfounded as the helo somehow managed to get all the way to the bottom of the silo in one piece. He obviously couldn't maneuver in the tight space and posed no threat as he couldn't get into position to fire on me. I blew it up with a close range burst from the SMG.  The explosion in that confined space blew me up into the second level.

The whole assault was freaky. I've never seen so many govmen in one place before. I got 20 kills in 60 seconds just trying to get into the silo.

I'm at 85% now and am noticing an increase in the number of govmen I am facing everywhere. I've run across a few armed with rocket launchers.

Man, that sounds cool - I'm not sure I've seen the underground fuel tanks yet, or if I have, I don't remember what they look like.

Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: spaceboy on May 05, 2010, 09:25:23 AM
great story eor!  I too haven't seen an underground fuel silo.  Are you talking about those ones with all the scaffolding leading down?  I've only been to one on a mission where there is a control panel at the bottom to set to destroy  (of course all pipelines and such would have built in self destruct codes and rigged with explosives - hey thanks Baby Panay!)

I forget what it was exactly I think it's like a missile silo or something.
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on May 05, 2010, 09:47:34 AM
I know what you mean, spaceboy - the kind where you go down the stairs to different levels fighting govmen along the way and when you get to the bottom, many more govmen plus a self-destruct panel that you need to activate - those are fun.

The only problem is how to get out fast enough before the thing blows - I found a spot just to the left and stepping away from the control panel where you can send the grapple to the top rim of the silo.
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: eor123 on May 05, 2010, 10:16:49 AM
Yep...the place where you go down several flights of stairs to the self destruct panel.

There is a demolitions officer there but I have yet to make one of them useful.  If you could spot him first, his exploding ordnance would take out several govmen around him. I always seem to spot him last or he is away from the others.

At least on casual, there doesn't seem to be great need to get out of the silo quickly. I just run up the stairs shooting govmen on the way. I've never had the "big explosion until after I've gotten topside. I suspect the big explosion is triggered by a player reaching the surface -- not sure, though.

Another funny moment I wish I had captured...

I was attempting to parasail to an island but came up short. I hate swimming so I hijacked a passing boat. I cruised over, retrieved the black box from the shoreline and headed back to the mainland.

I passed by the boat captain treading water and felt sorry for him being out there so I "rescued' him.

I grappled him to the boat and slowly drug him back to shore. His cries and screams as I did so were morbidly amusing, I have to admit.

I deposited him and his boat at the shore and he stood there in waist deep water doing that weird nose wipe thing the civilians do a lot in JC2.

I'm a Good Samaritan mercenary, I suppose.

Jumped onto a car last night, expecting the usual south Asian babble or the "Who You?. What you doing on my car?" or the, "Oh my God!" lines.

Instead the startled woman driver asked, " Is this a TV show?" What TV show are we on?"

Another funny moment I was unable to upload to youtube. That feature sure seems to be getting buggy of late, BTW.

At one of the military bases on the Southeast Island, there is a wooden covered bridge separating the two halves of the base. There was civilian traffic crossing the bridge but as soon as the civilian vehicles crossed the bridge, they did an immediate 180 and drove down the steep embankment and crashed into the rocks where some exploded.

That is a funny one!  Never have seen that one before.  On the topic of SAMs, I did a stronghold mission this morning and thanks to you guy's recommendation to leave the SAM sites intact, I was able to have some fun with a govman helicopter.  After I cleared out the stronghold, I purchased the small helicopter which I had upgraded to the max, and now had mounted machine guns.  I made a beeline to the nearest village and opened up with my guns.  Naturally a govman chopper responded, and I quickly ran back to the stronghold (that tiny copter sure is fast now).  When I reached the sronghold, I turned and watched as someone shouted "missile away!" and at least 3 SAMs headed toward the govman bird hot on my trail.  Naturally the govman did not stand a chance and I didn't need to fire a shot (except to start the fight in the beginning).

What I didn't notice until after the capture -- there is a second SAM chasing its tail in the opposite direction nearby, You can get a glimpse of it in this vid.

I  am finding the periodic propaganda broadcasts from Panau National News pretty humorous at times.

I'll try to capture the exact text of some of the better ones.

My favorites are about the heretofore unknown volcano that erupted and mysteriously disappeared -- as an explanation for large explosions.

...and the one in which the Tourism Minister reported that the death rate of 50 tourists per day was not unacceptable, given the current situation.

I witnessed a funny death of a govman this morning - the traffic was mostly stopped as usual when the fighting starts, and he inched his way across the road toward me, firing his shotgun the entire way.  He thought he had me as he stood by the trunk of a citizen's car when suddenly another Panauan vehicle slammed into the trunk of that car with the result you can easily imagine.

A strangled cry of surprise was all he could manage before being sandwiched and then ejected from between the two vehicles similar to squeezing a tube of toothpaste too aggressively.  I was so surprised and laughing so hard I didn't even notice what kind of vehicle hit him.  ;D

LOL, "similar to squeezing a tube of toothpaste too aggressively"   ;D  :-X Funny story  ;D

I had my first funny moment when I was being chased by a govmen patrol car on a bridge (traversing another road). He pulled up to my right side and I harshly steered my car into his, the next thing I saw was how he fell back and ran over the bannister in a high arc and going down, shortly after I heard the thudding explosion somewhere behind me LOL

In a world as big as JC2, I can't believe what just happened... After like two hours doing random stuff like driving down highways, fighting some govmen, hijacking military helos and fighting them off, driving cross country and along the costline... I avoid killing civilians as a general rule but it was tempting.

I used a few civilians as practice for some grapple hook craziness and they died in the process. It wasn't long after that I was stricken with the "Black Gold" glitch and had to back track over 10 hours of gameplay.

Today some govmen boat patrol made me laugh. They somehow managed to strand on a beach and I don't know what happened, there was no one around but me and I didn't do anything, their boat exploded and one govman went "Aaaaaah!" -- that was the moment I realised that they were there at all  ;D

On a couple of occasions something has happened to govmen who are parachuting into a firefight and they fall from the sky screaming. One time I had two literally fall [and bounce]  at my feet. I never fired a shot at them.

I haven't been able to capture a video of this. I don't know if their parachutes are getting tangled or if they are getting caught in the wash of the prop blades.

At times I am hearing a govman scream what sounds like, "I've got a big cock!"

It also sounds like he could be saying, "I've got a big car!" which makes even less sense.

Hehe  ;D

A funny moment yesterday: I had caused some chaos in a random civilian village and govmen would pop up. I hid in a metal shack (learned that from PZ) and the heat cooled off. However, I noticed that despite of the fact that no heat was on, something came poking into the shack through the wall: A hat and a pistol and parts of the hand. Obviously a govman had homed in on me and was waiting outside, and when I got out, there were three of them waiting for me  ;D

Sometimes I like to be chauffeured and jump on the hood of a faction car (they don't complain all the time) or any other car. I noticed the drivers occasionally honked their horns, but didn't pay much attention to it, I thought they meant me as in telling me to get off the car. Then, during a sight-seeing trip on a hood, looking to the side or back, I realised that we passed cars and bikes which were parked next to the road with their drivers still in/on. And then, looking ahead, I realised that honking the horn made them move aside and let us pass! LOL  ;D

I just enjoyed two funny moments with govmen choppers :)

The first one was in some military location which was located near a steep hill that was covered with a lot of tall trees. The chopper came from behind that hill and got caught up in those trees... I had been expecting the usual attack, but instead I heard that thud! when it blew up, accompanied by some "Uaaaaargh" yells of its crew, and saw a ball of fire and debris shoot up into the sky. I hadn't shot it at all. Hilarious  ;D

The second one was in one of those communication outposts on top of a mountain, which I take by killing the govmen first, along with blowing up the broadcast tower and generator, then I switch on those three terminals so the big antenna deploys. That usually results in a call for air support (paratroopers). Only this time I was quick enough to prepare for the chopper and had got a splendid sight: I shot it down before the paratroopers could jump. The picture was quite amusing... the chopper spat out its cargo (without chutes) like a popcorn machine, and those boys fell down the rocky cliffs, screaming all the way down, "chased" by the burning hulk of the chopper. Rather satisfying, I say  ;D

Don't know if that is true or not.

I didn't check that myself, either. When I shot that bubble gun at a civilian, everyone went on alert and the govmen homed in on me. That was the moment I discarded it  ;)

I found another location (small island in the south) full of those flowers and temple ruins at X:20666,Y:31111 where you can get two MTA Powerrun 77 for free, two health cabinets, two sets of three crates containing SMG, hand grenade, pistol, and farther up in a small centre building (ruin) a rocket launcher lying on the floor. I love that place :)

I like to surf on cars and with my recent fave weapon (fully upgraded machine gun) I randomly shoot other vehicles to rise some heat (a few bullets and cars explode, a mean gun that is). When chased by govmen, I try to aim at their tyres, and sometimes I manage: The govmen's car once was racing at insane speed trying to catch up, and the front tyre exploded. The car flipped and did summersaults all over and passed us like that, and when in front of us they did us the favour and exploded in a rather fashionable way, govmen flailing and sailing away screaming. Nice chaps, really :)

Funniest mishap so far: After a faction mission (delivering food crates with a stolen lorry to guys waiting at a gas station) I noticed the faction had a massive boat (Winston Amen 69) with front and rear gatling gun manned. I threw out the driver and steered to the civilian village Pekan Buah Melambak (next to the residence of our drunken agency mate). I thought heck, why brake, and beached that boat right next to a street bend. My fellows kept their positions behind the guns and shot every govman and car approaching our position, even kept helos busy who were after me. I played for a good while, taking out loads of govmen and their vehicles together with my good men when another chopper arrived. I grappled and tethered it to the ground in front of me, and shot it down. Thanks to the grapple the burning hulk came down in a nice arc and hammered me into the ground.  ;D

I just saw something I'd like to share. As usual, I was riding on the hood/roof of a car. A faction car, this time. Getting away from a shoot-out, the heat cooling off, I was just not expecting anything right then when a green civilian car raced after us, changed lanes, and started to overtake us. Then the front seat passenger of my own ride opened his door and started shooting the civilian car. WTH? I was curious and aimed at that car, too, and saw my crosshair turn red on it... so I shot it and blew it up. Sailing and flailing out of the wreck came a lone govman... he must have been so desperate to chase us that he just picked that green car on his own, perhaps because it was green (closest thing to military vehicles), regardless.  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on June 06, 2010, 09:02:47 AM
lol, that's funny - any green vehicle in a storm.  A funny for me was when I was flying the Rowlinson K22 (purchased), had set it down for some action, and a govman stole it to start shooting at me with it's guns!  Now I always park my vehicles where the govmen won't see it.  ;D
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on June 06, 2010, 10:14:43 AM
Hehe, I've experienced that too, govmen stealing one's ride :) There is another reason why I park my vehicles a bit away: so they won't get shot or blown up in the process of a little govmen hunt, especially when they send in their own choppers :)

Oh, I watched faction members steal and use govmen vehicles, too  ;D

I was testing one of the black market dealer's agency cars. I was on a long bridge, more the kind of a highway, and was blowing up two govmen bikes behind me with my mounted rocket launcher when a govman jeep joined in, along with a facman vehicle. I lost control over my car which had been damaged badly already over the past 20 minutes or so, and I careened over the side of the bridge. Not wanting to die from a faceplant accident in a car, I bailed out with my chute. My car exploded on hitting the ground and I grappled back to the bridge. The govman's car and the facman's car were gone, no one to be seen, yet I could hear them shout "You gonna die" etc. I was a little puzzled and thought well, they might have gone over the side as well and looked down. There they were.. I jumped down and landed on my feet just in time to watch the govman's car and the facman's car blow up simultaneously, sending the until then surviving rivals into the skies and turning them into bodybag fillings. And then silence.. Crazy stuff. :)

I've just been playing for a couple of hours much as you have been describing - no mission, but riding in vehicles shooting up the landscape.  I'm using the strong/multiple wires BOLO mod which is great for this activity.  I grapple hooked a govman to the back of my facman vehicle and was dragging him until he died, and long after he was dead, along with the burned out hulk of his motorcycle.

Today a facman made me laugh. He was around on foot since his mate and car had been blown up. I was busy blowing up abandoned vehicles when I noticed that facman move in from my right hand side. Only I couldn't make out what he was riding on.. and then I recognised it: A hulk of a motorcycle without tyres and rims, about to fade, which it did, rendering him sitting on thin air with some momentum left.. so he dropped down and rolled around on the tarmac and got up on his feet a little puzzled  ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on June 11, 2010, 03:58:00 PM
Indeed. The only cure involving tyres is to shoot one tyre (preferably front) while the vehicle is moving (preferably fast). Works best using sights (not auto-aim) so you actually hit a tyre and not the grill. The vehicle will flip a couple of times and eventually explode :)
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on June 11, 2010, 05:33:46 PM
Oh wow. I wish I had had a way to record what just happened: Surfing a facmen pick-up, the passenger and I shot a pursuing govman on his motorcycle. The govman got hit and flew off, the bike caught fire and went on driving on its own rather fast. It was steering straight towards a ramp (a huge fallen-over road sign in the middle of a dual carriageway) which sent the burning bike flying high into the sky, like 20 yards or so, in a nice arc, and I followed it with my crosshair until it hit the road where it exploded. Nice  :)

Just now, hehe, I watched this: I was in the turret of one of those orange-ish facmen buggies, we had just escaped from a little turmoil of battle and heat was cooling down. We arrived at an intersection and I noticed a govman on his bike who of course had to spot us, too. He came after us shouting "aha! There he is!" and was about to overtake us when I heard him go "Ahhhhhhrgh!" and his bike go "boomph" and the lamp post he had knocked over go "foomph! fizzzzz!" LOL  ;D

First hilarious moment already...Was being chased by govmen while standing on Karl Baines car. As we went across a bridge two pursuing jeeps rammed into each other making one of them careen off the side however the other quickly recovered and continued to give chase. As we neered the end of the bridge i decided to mess around with the grappling hook. So I first latched onto the jeep chasing us, and then aimed for the side of the bridge and stuck him to it. This of course tugged him back really hard since he was hauling a$$, and completely flipped over the side of the bridge :).

Sounds like you and I have identical hobbies.. I too love to make govmen feel the abrupt change from high speed to being stationary or to have them explore alternative exits from highways ;D

Two things, one may be a tip, try it yourself:

When I see a motorcyclist, I like to shoot his bike once or twice with my fully upgraded MG. Many times it catapults the bike or the guy off and away at an insane speed, he'd flail and sometimes even disappear in the distance LOL

Just now I watched a spectacular stunt involving a govmen jeep and the facboys whose car I was surfing. It was night time. The jeep came frontally at us rather fast, my shots made it flip and set it alight at the same time. The jeep jumped extremely high, like 10 or more metres, and both the passenger facman and I kept shooting at it mid-air which made it explode high in the sky, its burning spare parts came raining down at us like an umbrella  ;D

I witnessed a stunt drive performed by some facboys. It happened in some desert village near a T-junction. The boys came bombing down the long straight road where to the left of the road before the junction some wooden plates formed a ramp. They noticed a stationary govmen jeep and decided to turn left, and hit the ramp. The result was a stunning high corkscrew jump which sent them right on top of the govmen who were already shouting and shooting. Jolly good show, I have to say  ;D

Location X:10389 Y:20722

That is a hill with some trees between the hill and the road. If you go to that spot, you can see a gas station and the obligatory govmen threatening civilians lying on the ground next to their jeep. When you do some damage, the govmen get all excited and will spot you, but.. can't reach you. The result is you'll see military jeeps race up and down the road frantically trying to drive to your position. Even better, their bikes are on the road, too.. more often than not, they are headed towards one another and the jeep govmen frequently run their bike govmen over. Hilarious ;D

I found that out recently, it basically works with every elevated location and a nearby road, sometimes they even climbed the hill when your position was too close to the road. The spot above is perfect, they never got to me and I stayed in their line of sight to enjoy this rather spectacular example of govmen's brilliant tactics.  :)

Military Base in the Southeast, X:30200 Y:27777 (when completed)

There is a wooden bridge with a roof connecting two parts of the compound. Under the bridge is just rock, a chasm. When you go far enough away from the bridge while you can still see it, civilian traffic will spawn on the bridge and drive down the chasm like lunatics and then get angry because they can't go anywhere so they start to honk down there (or explode, hehe). Some try to climb the walls, others just flip. LOL

Just hijacked some vehicles and drove around there.. so strange :)

I was driving a Sakura Aquila Metro ST (kind of a souped-up "rice car", of course with rear spoiler, although the spoiler doesn't look like an airliner's landing gear). However, it is fast and handles very erm, spontaneously and therefore caused me to crash it a couple of times into other vehicles. One of which happened to be a govmen's jeep I tried to overtake. So I slid around a corner, dropped out and hid behind a lone nearby gas station. Since I hadn't shot anybody, the heat wasn't high and I managed to wait it out behind the building as my pursuers were a bit slow on foot. Knowing that once the govmen are after you (they had observed how I disappeared behind the station) they keep going even if the heat is off, I snuck around the other side and was able to watch them home in on the station, weapons at ready and all that.. Quite funny to watch those who want to get you and would have shot the living daylight out of you, if only.. hehe  ;D

I just heard a nice govmen line. I had parked my car not far from govmen, and when I got back, one of them seemed to be about to inspect my car. I was just about to enter my car unobtrusively when he said in a very mean voice,

"I put my eyes on you. "

I nearly choked on my coffee ;D

I wonder how he'd have reacted on a line like "no thanks, buddy, keep 'em. I've already got a pair of my own."  ;D

Good tips, Art - I'll need to get back into the game and try some of those - the endless types of antics performed by govmen is what keeps the game interesting even when you've completed all of the missions.  :-X

Thanks, guys :) The game has got an immense play (avoiding "re-" play) value. You finish the main (agency) missions at some point and you will run out of faction missions eventually, yet you don't have to stop or start over. You can just go on playing and there will be many things to try and try differently.. I'm on 200+ hours game play without getting bored.  :)

Have you PC guys using BOLOpatch with strong ropes ever tried to tether two civilian cars together and watched what might happen? I just did.

First I stopped my bike right on the road creating a traffic jam. In the queue were two Sakura Aquila Metro STs (those with rear spoilers and quite strong engines) next to each other, so I tethered them together. I cleared the road and hoped for something funny.

The tug dragged the other car behind it, as expected, and both cars were trying to stay on the road. The front car had a little difficulty uphill and slid off the road, both cars disappearing in some kind of a ditch but they managed to get back on track. The rear car finally flipped on its side and got dragged along for some time, sparks coming from where it scratched along the tarmac. After a while it flipped onto its roof, and now slid smoothly as a luge toboggan behind the leading car. I watched the front tyres of the sunny-side-down car flick left and right, trying to find a way out, hehe.. Then they stopped. The driver of the sled hopped out and stood still on the road, the dragging car pulled away and the sledge followed like a little dog. Then the dog caught fire. Not long after that, to be expected, the mistreated vehicle finally blew up. The hulk got carried away, once in a while bowling a pedestrian or a bike down. When I released the grapple, the hulk disappeared.

Kind of funny thing to do if you've got some spare time :)

In Panau City are a lot of really tall skyscrapers. I was just grapple-climbing one of the tallest when I noticed a Cassius 192 approach from the right rather closely. When the plane disappeared behind the building I predicted its trajectory taking into account its speed and looked up and left expecting to be able to watch it pass. But when it should have passed, nothing happ.. hold it, there is a massive black cloud of smoke, fire and debris up there! Missed the bang (sound glitch?) but well, that pilot sure wasn't as juicy as moments before any more. Got to be careful climbing high buildings these days, one might get whacked by a goddamned aeroplane!

ROFL! I need a break! Muahahahaha! I'm in the middle of a race, will edit the name in when I finished it.

That race is basically around half of Panau on motorways, on the "wrong" lane. You get a bloody fast car to race with. Hell, I already knew that some bridges have got transitions that w@&k like ramps (where the bridge starts or ends) right where it connects to whatever terrain. So I took one of those ramps at full speed, careened like a maniac over the side of the bridge and naturally lost the car. So I called my BMD and ordered a Garret Taver-Z, upgraded to the max, and resumed the race. Only $40,000 but racing always was an expensive sport. Unfortunately, right after having reached top speed again, I happened upon another bridge. Of course it was like a ramp again so I lost that car, too. After like 20 seconds. Same proceedure as before, and after having spent another $40,000 I took off again. Again, top speed reached, I had to pass one of those goals which are huge rings on fire that block your sight a little. At least enough to camouflage a govman on his bike.. When I went through that ring I saw something small flash towards me, heard a sounding CRACK! and saw bike and govman sail almost through the top of my screen. Whoa! That impact had turned my car around and off the track. So I wheeled it around, pedal to the metal, and tried to get back on the road again. When I finally was right on track gaining speed again, that govman came flapping down from the skies and did a real proper faceplant a couple of metres away from me, nice cracking sound, too. I opened my mouth, you know, going to say "what the.." but right then the govman's smoking bike came from the skies like a fricking comet. A lot farther away, yet still well visible though, and disappeared behind a cliff where I heard it detonate. Now I could finish my question "..heck?" and started to laugh, oh man! What a funny accident during a race!

The race isn't finished yet. I hope I won't have to buy too many cars, then  ;D

Edit: The Raya Race, a three-stars car race at X:26800 Y:11300. 32 goals, finish is almost at Panau International Airport, you race counter-clockwise around the map. I finished with 04:13 minutes. I kept my car (had a couple of minor accidents) but finally wrecked it after passing the finishing line, thanks to a facman's car that performed a beautiful and violent headbutt to my grill.   :D ;D

Found something new that made me laugh: I was surfing on a faction's car and thought about stuff to tether to it (à la wrecking ball). Most of the stuff so far had been too heavy (like other cars or bikes) so I tried one of those news stands or fruit stands you see quite often next to streets and roads. That was hilarious! They are light enough to follow like a kangaroo, bouncing frantically all the time, and keep bowling down pedestrians and bikers. I had a good time just watching that thing, and it was even funnier when I jumped off the car and watched it drive away with that jumping news stand following it around a corner  ;D ;D ;D

I think i'm on the last mission because it's the most ridiculous i've played so far. At the moment i'm on the mission where you disarm a couple rockets soaring through the air, but the boss (cant remember his name right now) is constantly shooting at you while he's on another rocket. The premise itself is so out there I think it's quite hilarious and unique as i've never really seen anything like it in a game. Anyway, hopefully I beat it soon, i wanna get back to causing random chaos but it's kinda giving me a little trouble. Any suggestions?

What is giving you troubles, mate? The rocket ride mission I think? Which indeed is hilarious and something so far out, neither had I seen something like that before :) Unfortunately I don't remember much of it, I've only played it once and basically all I know is that you've got to run around the rockets and disarm them while riding on them. I'm sure you'll manage eventually :)
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on July 16, 2010, 01:34:58 PM
I can't recall exactly how I accomplished it other than I randomly kept grappling from one rocket to another while shooting at the guy - then he seemed to take cover from time to time which gave me a few seconds to enter the code on the farthest rocket.  It seemed to get easier with each rocket.

Haha well I finally beat that mission last night. Found out I just wasn't shooting at him before, so I couldn't disarm them since he was constantly unloading on me. So last night I just got out my m4 and unloaded on him a few times while disarming all the bombs but overall I was surprised how easy it was. I love how Rico didn't take the high road like heroes in most games, and set the rocket to fly into the oil field (with the boss on board), however it would've been nice to set where it went yourself/decide whether to kill him or not. Besides that I thought it was a pretty extreme moment which perfectly went along with the games already crazy atmosphere, so it fit.

I had a funny (peculiar) moment - was doing a military installation and heard the normal yelling about how they've got me on the run, and I'm bleeding like a stuck pig.  Only, the funny thing is that there was not a single soul in the place - lots of voices, but no one to shoot at.  It definitely was the easiest military base I'd ever done.
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: Art Blade on July 24, 2010, 11:36:18 AM
lol, I like that "stuck pig" line. I noticed that sometimes govmen spawn inside closed buildings, like hangars for instance. They might have sensed you and started complaining.

In my case I could hear those stuck pigs and see hands or parts of weapons penetrate the walls from the inside, yet I couldn't shoot those bits. I think I once successfully blew them to bits applying c-4 to that wall.  :)
Title: Re: Funny moments
Post by: PZ on July 25, 2010, 10:15:31 AM
I've experienced the govmen inside buildings as well, but they've always been shooting at me while I can't get them.  However, if I use a rocket launcher in a helo, or throw a grenade (maxed out with weapons parts), it deals with them quite well.

On this particular occasion, it was different - no one was in the area (not even one), and no one ever took a shot at me, which is what made this one somewhat unique.

I was doing a military installation in the southeast military island and grappled to a Quonset hut - when I attempted to jump off, I ended up inside the building and it's walls were transparent.  The govmen knew I was there and even fired a time or two, but the bullets could not go in or out.

While it was fun to closely observe their antics without being shot, I did have to kill myself to get out.  :-X

Funny moment this morning:

As I was clearing out one of the communications outposts using a helicopter, a govman Jeep came rushing up the road, then veered off toward my copter.  What the driver failed to notice was that there was a 300 meter cliff that he was driving over.  The govman hanging out the door exclaimed "We got him on the run!"  as the vehicle sailed through the air on it's way to a gravity-induced destiny.

I was coasting into the beach with a speedboat real laid back, when all of a sudden some common panau military in a boat ran ashore very slowly.  Then they all screamed in unison as if they rehearsed.   After they were on the beach in the boat for like 2 seconds the boat explodes and their rag-dolls are sent flying... the timing of it was so hilarious.

Another time i was driving down the road through one of the little towns, and i just saw a guy catapulting over the road in front of me at about 40 or 50 feet in the air.  I still have no idea why.

I love the randomness of that very fluid game world.

That's a good one - have never seen that one before  :-X

I also appreciate the fluid nature of the Panauan world.

If you use mods, then you might like the faction helicopters mod, which allows the faction guys to fly in choppers, drive the military vehicles on the road, and much more.  In fact, they'll come to your aid while you fight the military police, which can make for some lively (and funny) action.

Welcome to OWG  ;)

Indeed, JC2 is one of the best environments I have seen in a game that I can think of. With a couple of mods in place, it can be turned into a big holiday.. I like to just drive around in a car without getting shot at every two seconds, but I still can't help myself and start to blow things up and shoot randomly at faction members and stuff if it gets too quiet  ;D

So, I got this faction mission (Reapers) to catch a guy (Cheng) in his limousine and bring him to a drop off point for interrogation, seemed easy enough, but I could never catch the bugger, he was in a limo, going down a mountain all hairpin bends, I was literally going down a mountain vertically on a dirt bike!, on one of my reloads, on the way down I actually hit a "stunt" ramp and went sailing across the mountain, kinda like the bicycle going across the moon in ET.

It was worth all the frustration just for that scene.

Of course the proper way to do that mission is to not follow Chen, but go down the other side and intercept him .... but .... proper ways are for pussies  >:D

Fiach, is this the mission you're talking about?  I thought it was awesome and I found the stunt ramp purely by accident the first time as I just went straight towards the green icon of the limo.  My first run wasn't this fluid, but here's a perfected attempt.

Yes mate thats the mission :), but .... thats not the ramp I mean, its about 2 or 3 hairpin levels below that :)

The mission wasnt great for me, maybe I missed something *shrugs*.

The way I did it was, I went the opposite direction to you, if you look at your play, you get on the bike and go right-ish, I actually went left, straight over the lip, stopped at the road edge and waited for Cheng to arrive. Took him a minute or so, I then rode parrallel to his car and "stunted" onto it, killed the bodyguard and drove the rest of the way.

I found it pretty boring tbh, the car couldnt go fast as it was a limo and of course the hairpin bends made it even more impossible, luckily the car was built like a tank, but the rest of the journey was just plodding along at abou 30 miles per hour, with various cops etc smashing into me until I got to the drop off.

I had more fun the way you went, but I also found it more annoying too, its probably only the second time I drove in the game and I was continually asking why they even bothered with road missions as the driving is so borked.  >:D

once you get used to it, the chute combined with the grapple is really the best way to get from A to B, except you want to cross the entire map at once. Then a plane, preferably the small one you can buy from the BM dealer, would be a better idea.

By the way, if you want to get that plane or some other good vehicles for free, check the Topic: JC2: Top Speeds + Vehicle List with Coords (http://openworldgames.org/owg/forums/index.php?topic=1631.msg27608#msg27608)  :)

Or, if you are near a military airport, stealing a jet is easy, and very funny - you run up to a jet that is beginning to taxi, and click the Enter button - you'll grab the pilot to throw him out while you get in - then you jet off toward parts unknown (to them)
