Welcome to this Guide to Oblivion Lost 2.2.

There are several excellent guides out there for Stalker S.O.C. but having not found one for the Oblivion Lost total conversion mod.

Over the days, weeks and no doubt months to follow I will be exploring the depths of the Zone of Oblivion Lost and compiling a detailed guide on how to survive and thrive in this very different and much harsher incarnation of the Zone!

As I play through the game and catalogue the differences from Shadow of Chernobyl to Oblivion Lost I will be compiling maps and walk-through notes that will eventually become a file to download in one format or another.

Any contributions welcome from other explorers.
Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raido, Kenaz, Gebo, Wunjo, Hagalaz, Nauthiz, Isa, Jera, Eithwaz, Perth, Algiz, Sowilo, Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Ingwaz, Othila.

Oblivion Lost is probably the best Total conversion mod for S.O.C. Not only does it make the Zone a harder it also makes it more rewarding.
Among the many changes are new creatures, dynamic anomolies, a more Open-World type of scripting for the Npc's and Factions and my personal favourite additiion is recipies for Artefacts (more on this later).

All these changes to the game make exploring the environment a completely new challange fo rthose familiar with the regualar or 'vanilla' version of the game.

TO BEGIN.

Step 1 = Installing Oblivion Lost 2.2 and getting it to running properly.

To play you will need the following

STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl - Disc or Steam version

Stalker patch v1.0005

Oblivion Lost 2.2 - Total conversion mod

First instal the game. This can be a completely installation or you can install the game again to a different folder.
When it has installed run it and check it runs ok, which it should do.
Second install the Patch v1.0005 to bring the game up to date, run it again and in the bottom left of the menu screen it should tell you the patch version.

Now to turn S.O.C. into Oblivion Lost you need the 'gamedata' folder from the Mod download, copy the entire folder and paste it into the main game folder.
You also need to modify the 'fsgame.ltx' file in the main game folder, this tells the game engine to use the mods gamedata folder. Open the fsgame file in notepad. The second line down should read the same as this $game_data$   = false|   true|   $fs_root$|      gamedata\.
Now change the 'false' to 'true' making it read $game_data$   = true|   true|   $fs_root$|      gamedata\.

Now if all has gone according to plan when you run the game you should get the main menu screen pictured below.

[smg id=3557]

For reasons I have not yet figured out after you start a game and return to the menu screen it will have changed to the screen pictured below.

[smg id=3558]

There are a few minor additions to the menu, the AMK options has 3 different options for the HUD, the rest are the same with the odd change of wording.

THE CORDON part 1

To begin with you have almost nothing in way of equipment. Your Inventory screen shows only your Armour, a sleeping bag and 1 GPS beacon. You also begin with a knife, binoculars, 40 credits and loads of bolts.

First have a chat with Sydrovich and get the game going. You have to talk to him and take his mission for the door to unlock so you can get out to see Wolf. On your way to Wolf there are 17 locations where you can find various supplies to give you a better start. Below is a map showing all the locations in Red numbers.

[smg id=3560]

Starting in Syd's basement and working round the village, ending up at Wolf (marked by the 'W') takes about 5 minutes or so. Recommend you get everything before talking to Wolf or leaving the village.

Here is what you find at each location and a brief desciption of how to get it.

1
[smg id=3561 width=240]

On the floor to the left side of the door in Syd's basement is a blue box, inside you will find 5 Med-kits and 5 Bandages.

2
[smg id=3562 width=240]

Enter the porch doorway, then through the main doorway on your left and look right. The crate contains 1 med-kit.

3
[smg id=3563 width=240]

Turn around from the crate above and go through the doorway straight ahead. On the right near the center of the room is a camp fire. Stand between the fire and the chimney, lean left and collect the Vodka.

4
[smg id=3564 width=240]

On to the next building, down the ladder to the cellar. Inside the crate are some tins of food. Nothing else anywhere in this building.

5
[smg id=3565 width=240]

Go around to the back of the next house, and with some tricky jumping you can get upon the roof. Crouch down and move to the corner above the doorway. Smash the metal box. Sometimes you will see a bandage or two and sometimes nothing. Collect what is visible then drop down to the ground and just to the left inside the doorway should be the rest of the contents that have fallen through the ceiling.

6
[smg id=3566 width=240]

The last building on this side has nothing downstairs. Use the vehicles on the other side of the fence to gain height to jump across to the roof, find the hole in the beams at the other side of the chimney to the vehicles, in the middle of the roof are 2 small metal boxes (almost always empty but worth checking), and a crate which contains an artefact.

That is all for this side of the street.

7
[smg id=3567 width=240]

After collecting the artefact from location 6 turn to face the house across the street. As you look at the front of the house item 7 is in the attic at the rear on the right hand side, get onto the roof then crouch low and smash the crate to get a shiny new suit of Merc armour.

8
[smg id=3568 width=240]

Downstairs, inside and in the room on the right is a chimney / oven, crouch low to find a box of buckshot ammo hiden away.

9
[smg id=3569 width=240]

Through to the other room and on top of to crates sits a metal box with 2 bandages inside.

10
[smg id=3570 width=240]

In the attic, right at the back is a cratem with Vodka and a few energy drinks.

11
[smg id=3571 width=240]

Down in the cellar, just inside the doorway is a crate containing an Artefact.

12
[smg id=3572 width=240]

In the middle of the attic floor, hidden behind the chimney is a backpack containing an AK47 (this is usually a Stash spot that you may find out about during the game, in the vanilla version of the game it is empty)

13
[smg id=3573 width=240]

In the far corner of the kitchen, on the floor next to a cooker is a large pan. Inside is a tin of food to add to your collection.

14
[smg id=3574 width=240]

As you stand facing the entrances to the 2 underground shelters head down into the one on the left. On the table is some bread and an energy drink.

15
[smg id=3575 width=240]

And in the crate at the end of the room are more tins of food.

16
[smg id=3576 width=240]

Laying on the ground between the fire and the road is a can of energy drink.

17
[smg id=3577 width=240]

And finally in the blue box next to the fence you will find 240 rounds for your shiny new AK47 (this is also usually empty in the vanilla game, the ammo in there naturally to go with the gun from the attic that has been added in to Oblivion Lost)

Now you have scavenged all you can go and have that talk with Wolf for Syd. After he has told you where his scout's are he will pass you a 9mm pistol and 40 rounds for it. When the F to talk comes up again press it, tell him your working on it and then ask him about other w@&k. Take the mission to clear the Boar's Lair. Its nice and easy, close by and gives you chance to try out you weapons.

Now you are all set for you first mission into the Zone. your equipment should now be as pictured below -

THE CORDON part 2

BOARS LAIR MISSION

This is the first side mission from Wolf. Open your PDA, on the Tasks section scroll down to show the Boar's Lair mission. Double click the target icon (pictured below) and it will set it as your primary task.

[smg id=3586 width=240]

Head out of the village and cross the main road, beware of the soldiers down the hill on the right. There are 3 soldiers that patrol from the check-point to the bottom of the hill, if they see you they may well come after you so wait until they are walking back toward the check point.

[smg id=3587 width=240]

The 2 boars are easy to take down with the AK47, make sure you check the bodies for loot. Your mini-map in the top left corner of the screen should also show a grey dot, go check out the corpse for loot, usually he is carrying nothing, occasionally a bandage or maybe even a grenade. After searching him you should see your PDA icon flashing in the bottom left. This tells you that he has informed you about a Stash location.

[smg id=3588 width=240]

Down the hill toward the 2 wooden crates, the one on the right is empty, in the left one you will find an Artefact.

[smg id=3589 width=240]

Mission done, return to wolf and get your reward. Now your inventory screen should look like this -

[smg id=3590 width=240]

The fun starts here! So far all has been very similar to the vanilla game, with the exception of the AK47 and ammo. However now your ready to move deeper in the zone the differences will become a lot more apparent and deadly. The next cahpter will cover the area around the village and the mission to rescue Nimble.

THE CORDON part 3

RESCUE NIMBLE

So far the game has been the same as the vanilla version, with the exception of the AK47 and ammo. Now as you make your way north out of the village to meet Wolf's scouts and attempt to rescue Nimble the differences will become more apparent and deadly.

Following the main road north from the village you will see a caravan and some concrete blocks off to the left of the road. Examine the 2 corpses and grab the med-kit from the floor then jump up onto the roof of the caravan. Now you can see some of the native wildlife to the north and west, to the right you can see the entrance to the tunnel under the road.

This picture shows thwe Boars and Dogs from the basic game along with a new critter to deal with - Cats! They are no cute little fuzzy things, if anything they are more dangerous than the dohgs and boars due to their speed of attack.
[smg id=3600 width=240]

Here, safely on the roof you can watch the animals fight each other and pick off any targets with your rifle. Take care when looting the corpses as other animals are not too far away.

When its clear look toward the road, over the tunnel you will see an anomally pulsing away making the road dangerous to use.
[smg id=3597 width=240]

Drop down to the ground and go to the caravan doorway. Grab a bolt and throw it into the doorway.
[smg id=3599 width=240]

This anomally prevents you from entering the caravan at the moment. It is not always there so keep checking it when you pass by as inside to the right is a metal box with a silenced 9mm and some bandages inside.

Cross over to the other side of the road and look down toward the van, you should see another anomally pulsing awaynear the front left of the van.
[smg id=3601 width=240]

Talking care to avoid that anomally and the one to your left on the road make you way down and into the tunnel. Your detector will start beeping as you enter but your safe enough to grab the energy drink off the floor and smash open the metal box on the jeep for some 9mm ammo.
[smg id=3598 width=240]
[smg id=3596 width=240]

Now you can follow your mini-map to meet up with Wolf's scouts. I highly recommend you save the game here before moving north to get Nimble out of enemy hands.

Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raido, Kenaz, Gebo, Wunjo, Hagalaz, Nauthiz, Isa, Jera, Eithwaz, Perth, Algiz, Sowilo, Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Ingwaz, Othila.

THE CORDON part 4
The mission to rescue Nimble is the same as it is in the Vanilla version - Take out the 7 bandits, talk to Nimble to get the Flash-drive for Sydrovich and return it. Make sure you loot all the corpses before leaving, chances are that all 3 of Wolf's scouts get killed (either by the Bandits or because they are dumb enough to walk straight into an Anomally) so loot them too.

The fire-fight will probably attract the attention of some animals too so keep an eye out for them. (Played the mission 3 times in a row and each time 2 or 3 cats turned up to investigate, the first time I was totally unprepared and got jumped by 3 at once. Was dead within about 5 seconds so be warned, the Cats curiosity can kill you just as easily as it can cats!)

After freeing Nimble take the flash-drive back to Syd's and the story will progress a little more. Take the 'Special Mission' from Syd. This sends you to meet the Journeyman (marked in the left picture below). Before setting off ask about other jobs and take the Purge the area of mutants job (marked in the right picture below).

[smg id=3609 width=240]

As you can see they are very close to each other making it easy to do both in one trip. Follow the same path past the first bridge from the previous mission, taking care to avoid the anomallies on the way. A new Anomaly
has popped into existence near the small van to the right of the road at the first bridge pictured below so take care to avoid it.

[smg id=3610 width=240]

Follow the road north to the bus stop then head to the north-west and jump up onto the low roof pictured below.

[smg id=3611 width=240]

From there go to the other side of the main roof. Look to the right and you will eventually see a lone zombie staggering around the other building.

[smg id=3612 width=240]

Look left and you will see a small metal box to break open.

[smg id=3613 width=240]

Drop down into the building and on the floor directly below where the box was there is some more AK47 ammo and a silencer.

[smg id=3614 width=240]

Turn around and in the corner are a few boxes which hide a suit of Bandit armour.

[smg id=3615 width=240]

Make sure you don't strike the petrol cannister on the left because it will explode and that hurts! There is also a dead Bandit to loot, what he has varies but looting him will give you a stash location so its worth doing.

Make your way out of the main doors at the eastern edge of the building and go back around to the low roof you first jumped up onto. From there carefully get onto the roof of the adjoining building and over to the other side without falling back into the buildings. From here you can safely take out the 5 dogs to complete the Purge mission. This may well attract the zombie so take him out too.

[smg id=3616 width=240]

When the area is cleared make you way to meet the Journreyman. His corpse is in front of the vehicle, just before the tunnel filled with anomalies. Now is a good time to get back to Syd's bunker and collect the reward from the Purge mission. Take extreme caution as you return to Syd's bunker as 2 new anomallies have formed between the village and bunker entrance. Use your bolts to trigger them, the electrical anomally covers a large area.

[smg id=3617 width=240]
[smg id=3619 width=240]

Right by the entrance to the bunker is the second new anomally, a burner. Avoid this by going to the west of the entrance and dropping down onto the stairs.

[smg id=3620 width=240]
[smg id=3621 width=240]

Collect the mission reward. You can also take the mission to find a Jellyfish artefact which you should have from the crates near the Boar's Lair mission. The reward is greater than the price Syd will pay to simply buy the artefact from you, and as it offers little in the way of benefits it is worth getting rid of it.

Now you can sell any un-needed items, stock up on anything you do need and if needs be get you armour and weapons repaired.

Red, your comprehensive tutorials just earned you another slap on the back, Kudos+1, matey, cheers  :) :-X
[titlebar]Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.[/titlebar]What doesn't kill us, makes us weirder.

RedRaven

Why thank you kind sir. Its a lot of fun to do, similar to all the Quick-Start Characters I did for FC2 a while back,
Although this guide will cover lots of things that the Oblivion Lost mod adds to the game I don't want it to become a walk-through so things like stash contents will not get listed as its part of the fun of the game finding them out four yourself, and as far as can remember the contents are the same as the Vanilla game too.

As I leave the Cordon the guides for the main story missions will just become a very simple out-line of one or two ways to complete the objective as I focus more on the new elements in the Zone such as dynamic anomalies and Faction interaction in different area's. More on this later ;)

Next few posts will cover crossing the Rail road and what to expect in the Northern half of the Cordon before making it to the transition to the Garbage. Most likely a Blow-out will occur during that time too, which provides some more opportunities for hints and maybe a video.

The other main addition I mentioned near the start of this guide is the 'Recipes' for creating Artefacts. It should not be too long until I discover my first one and be able to provide an example of how they w@&k.

AND IT ALL WENT HORRIBLY WRONG !!!

There I was, happily exploring the zone when it all went wrong - Really wrong.

After the Garbage area I was making good progress, got through to the entrance to the Agprom area underground when a Blow-out happened. Being underground kept me safe from the blow-out itself but the appearance of at least 3 Controllers was more than I could handle!

After several attempts to get past I resorted to starting from a previous save. Fat lot of luck there, every time I went down into the tunnel the blow-out came and spawned several of the nasty psychic nastiness.

My plan now is to find and use a God-mode cheat to make it easier to finish the basics of this guide.
And if all goes well can continue past where I last left things.
