Don't know how wide spread these guys are yet, but tried Smashburger for the first time Saturday.  Their schtick is they supposedly take a fresh ball of ground beef and smash it flat on the grill to cook it. They have many options for toppings and combinations and also do chicken and veggie burgers for those so inclined.

I had one with bacon, fried onions, mushrooms and their Smash sauce, which is essentially Dijon mustard, but it was pretty good. If the one store in my area was closer, I'd go more often. The one thing that I wasn't keen on was the fries. The fries there are super skinny, thinner than shoestring fries if you know what those are. They are just short of being those crispy potato stick things you can buy in a can or at least used to be able to, I haven't seen them in a long time.

Anyway, if you're out looking for a burger and there's one nearby, might be a place to try out.

I did this sandwich a while ago, and found it delicious. It was a ribeye burger topped with a mound of pulled pork, caramelized onion, and BBQ sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's Chipotle) all on a Texas toast platform. Sweet, savory, and slightly hot.

Because I've lots of time on my hands these days, I fixed my sweetie a nice dinner.

She was completely surprised because I have never done this - ever. This was the appetizer - a single jumbo shrimp sauteed in butter, lemon juice, zest, red pepper flakes, and salt and pepper. The two scallops were pan seared in butter to develop the caramelization.

The steak was a ribeye from the same batch that I made the burgers from.  Because the steak was so big, I cut it in half the long way and we each shared a half. The mushroom sauce was outstanding - butter, white wine, onions, garlic, salt and pepper. The twice baked potatoes were also excellent, as was the lightly steamed asparagus.

The final dinner table - my sweetie found it quite romantic that I did this. The wine was a Turley 2012 Zinfandel - most excellent.
